maybe an unread email ?
nope, I deleted everything, mails, sms - inbox, outbox, sent, draft - everything and still there it is... ONE SMS. I don't want to go to shop (for now) and use my warranty, still hopping it's some banal thing.
Thanks for suggestions...

stupid question - but have you tried a hard reset?
Yes, tried, but it's still there...
Seems that I'm the only on with this curse...
But I'm not giving up, I will solve this... Hope so...

It might be an SMS on the SIM card that says it's unread but isn't being displayed...
Alternatively, it might just be a registry flag that hasn't been reset.
[HKCU\\System\\State\\Messages\\sms\\Unread]
"Count" should equal 0.

Wow, I had the same problem happen to me. I also deleted all my inbox, but to no avail.
It's actually still there even after a hard reset? - quite persistent.
I'm almost sure mine just went away after a couple of days all alone.
Which ROM are you using? and are you using touchpal?

I've recently bought a Kaiser (Vodafone 1615) and weirdly messaging has stopped loading, I can't check my messages or send and SMS, etc.
I've soft reset the device, but it's still the same. Is my only option now to hard reset and lose all data?
Hello Forums!
Hi scottola,
It sounds like some kind of software fault has developed with your handset. If you got it directly from Vodafone on a contract then you're covered by a warranty for the duration of your contract term.
If you would like us to arrange repair of the handset for you please contact us on 191 and we'll diagnose what's wrong and get it fixed without delay.
Hope this helps,

This is weird: my messaging app has also just stopped working. It won't load from the buttons, or using the exe directly. Is it hard reset time?
Any thoughts guys? No emails - can you imagine?
I'm sorry, but without help from any one else I can only offer, try a soft reset, if that don't work try a hard reset, as if your device came out of the box (or with any ROM upgrades you have done).
2x soft keys and a stylus up the derrier!!
Hang on as long as you can, someone may have had this before.
I have had this before...twice....
In both cases it was immediately after loading an application - last time was Google maps.
However, it isn't Google maps that caused it..I believe, from a process of trial and error, that it was one of two apps. loaded immediately BEFORE the last one - either WIMP or Bandswitch (or maybe a combo of both). Whatever, in both cases pressing the MESSAGING button or the Today secreen item resulted in nothing. Also there were icons missing in the apps and control panel folders. My only conclusion was that a badly constructed app. had somehow not controlled where in memory it was writing.
Sorry, but the only fix for my situation was a hard reset.
Andy.
Mine does this. On mine it is lost clusters/chains on the storage card where you've saved attachments. The solution for me is to delete the Inbox.something folder on the card.
Why it happens I have no idea though.
Jon
Perfect! That worked - thank you.
The only downside is that I lost my old SMS messages - but it's better than no messages at all. Now to find a way of backing up those SMS messages....
thanks re messaging

I don't think I lost my SMS msgs but the suggestion worked. Anyhow, Sprite Archie is a way of backing up your SMS to email.

WORKED FOR ME TOO. THANKS. AND GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE WITH THIS PROBLEM
this is VERY odd.. last week my messaging also stopped working! It acted as if the messaging exe. had been deleted or something.. nothing was responsive in launching it.
Someone mentioned google maps. I CLEARLY recalled that I updated to the new version of google maps.. and then the messaging problems occurred. I had been thinking these two were related.
Thank you so very much Jon

I've been hard resetting & restoring old backup for the last 4 hours without avail until I read this post. I managed to launch the SMS/MMS/email again
Thank you once again & you're our saviour!
Mine did this 2 days ago, "luckly" a soft reset on my att tilt fixed it..(crosses his fingers)
Cheers Jon
had this occur on my TYTN II this morning and was starting to panic as i keep a lot of work mail and text on my handset and havent backed up this weeks yet !!!
managed to delete the inbox.xxxxxxx folder from the memory card and all is well, no messages or data lost, mind you i did a quick PIM backup before i did just in case.....
So big thanks fella.
I just removed my storagecard and put it back in again. that was all i needed to do
Windows Mobile 6 email/SMS/MMS not starting
Thanks to all who contributed to this solution.
I have an HTC Touch Cruise and was about to do a hard-reset when I found this thread.
Saved my day! and a lot of work in case I had done hard reset, having to install all my software again.
Deleting inbox.xxxxxx folder did the trick but there is one minor issue.
The HTC Touch Cruise has the 3D TouchFlo interface and this has a "Today" app that also has quicklauncher buttons for e-mail and SMS. These buttons indicate the number of unread e-mails and SMS-es and indicates a wrong number until you do a soft-reset.
Then works like a dream.
Thanks again.

Suggestion: Put the current chats on a different tab
And of course add file transfer for yahoo/aim/msn
kinda sucky
well their sign up process kinda sucks. I've been waiting on an SMS for several hours. After submitting your phone number and a supposed text is to be sent, they display a page of the next steps. It says if you don't get the SMS text message, you should visit the site from your mobile device. WHAT A JOKE.. I'm using PIE to browse their site and it's not even a mobile page.
if they can't get this simple stuff right what the hell can they get right?
I got the sms instantly.

I still dont have the sms.. and since I posted I tried 2 more times.
I got the SMS instantly too. There is a Yeigo worker watching this thread... maybe he will chime in.
Here are some of my sugguestions.
To improve this I would say to intgrate a notification into windows... when its minimised if you get a IM that it shows a notifiaction icon, not just makes the noise. (like windows msn messenger) Also, you should be able to sort by what IM service your using, also there is no file transfer or voice clip.
Navigation is also tedious going between conversations and the Instant message main screen.
Can anyone make a Voip call not using wi fi? I cant!! The program crashes to today screen!!

I am having an issue with the time of my text messages.
The time i receive my text messages is not in sync with the main clock. How do i fix this? I tried looking at the manual but there isn't an option.
For instance my clock says 4:00pm but the text that just came in says 11:45am.
I already made sure that my clock was set to home and that i selected the right one.
Thanks in advance.

Here U R
Little Help Please;
I have HTC Diamond P3501 DIAM500 on a Telus (Canada) Network. Rom ver 1.06.661.1 and Radio ver 0.99.90V running on WM6.1 Pro.
I have tried all BBC versions from 4.0.0.67 to 4.0.0.100, all of them freeze my HTC. After 20 or more reboots I might be able to get in, but no PIN. The IP is there, the IMS is there, but no PIN and non stop freezing during soft or hard boot.
I have called Telus, all ports are open, the connection type is virtualy the same fronm BB unlimited service to PDA unlimited service.
Please help.. Thank you in advance.

I have disabled current location using dutty's disbale location and changed my clock to show my city plus ran the util from above. Now instead of being 5 hours earlier its 1hour early when I recieve texts. Suggestions on how to fix this?
Manilla is showing that I have 1 unread sms, when I check there is not. I click "all messages" to get to the WM inbox but there are no unread messages in there.
I have tried to go to tools and "clear SMS/MMS", this wipes all messages, and when I look in the inbox it's empty, but when i click on the "inbox"tab to show the whole sms tree I see inbox with a blue "1" in brackets. I have also tried a sof reset, with no effect.
Any of you guys come accross this before?
BTW this has only started since I recieved an SMS while TomTom was running, and I had to ignore it.
Cheers for any help you can offer
Perhaps the mail still is on the server. Try to delete the mail configuration and then configure it again.
no luck
I tried to do that, but was unable to delete the "SMS" account. I also tried inserting a SIM card from a different opperator, but this did no good either.
Hey all,
i've got the same problem since yesterday... posted it already in the topic where aqll post their problems with new WM6.5
hope someone has a solution!
I've got an official WM6.5 HTC german ROM
I'm having the same problem mate (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=579772) but now manila home screen is showing i have 2 new messages when in fact i have none. I had a good scoot in the registry but there's nowt there to reset MS's inbox (as far as i could see but then again i'm not a reg buff).
I've read elsewhere that this "new message" is a known issue in WinMo 6.5..
Hoppe there's a fix for it soon...or someone here can help us out
Cheers
Mo
thanks!
Thanks for the info guys.

I don't think I want to re-flash 6.5.....but that 1 message symbol is realy starting to bug me!!
For those who fixunreadcount did not work for "ghost" messages.
Try using Ceregeditor it is simple to find, works very well... I used it for my HTC pure. If you have a problem unlocking your phone, there a few threads on forums i read on how to do it. If your phones already unlocked.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\State\Messages\sms\Unread
Double-click on COUNT and change the number to 0 (zero). You should see the change immediately on your phone -- you don't have to do a save. If it works then save.
Worked for me instantly! Thanks to rdphoto on ppcgeeks.com, any questions on anything ill try and help, hope it works
Hi all,
I have the HTC Pure. I got a few text messages at once and my phone slowed waaay down. I deleted the 3 messages that I had, however all but one of them were marked as read.
I called AT&T who in turn called HTC and said that this is a known issue but they have no fix in place and not planned.
So now, my phone always says I have one new text message, and I went and "cleaned" all of my messages; sent, draft, inbox, and deleted.
Does anyone know of a fix or a registry key that I can edit so that I don't have to do a hard reset?
Thanks!
I think it is just a problem from your current ROM .
Like such question , I will suggest you to flash a new ROM or install a new SMS APP.
it is easy to fix the problem after you change ROM
I've been having the same problem, and we are not alone...see thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584623
I know I can cure the problem by re-flasing the ROM, but I was hoping for a less painful solution......plus there is no guarantee the problem won't happen again.
I have had this with emails before. Here is a program which fixed that. I'm not sure if it will work with SMS, but you can try....
Looks like a DB corrupt... The count is in the registry but also in the DB...
If you have a DB browser you can try to find the entry and change it....
Or you may also delete the DB, Windows will recreate a new one for you...

Nope, that's not the solution. And what kind of new SMS APP do you suggest?
Instead, try to hard reset the phone (Settings > System > Clear Storage), but back up the data (phone numbers etc) wih PIM Backup or alike into a microSD storage card.

Thanks for the suggestion. May I ask wha the "DB" is? I am somewhat familiar with the registry and I use Total Commander to edit it if need be.
I think it is in the registry as well; one value I would think. If not, do you think reinstalling the MMS software would work?
there use to be a hot fix for this on htc.com but it was for 6.1
not sure if they still have it up
well i had that problem in the past, it seems i had deleted an unread sms in the "deleted items" folder. After i deleted that one...i didn't have an unread notification...
other than that, i can't think of any solution
Had the same thing. As was suggested do a backup of all your personal data and then hard reset. No ROMS to play with no software to install (except any you already have) clean easy and cheap.

I know this is a problem with WM 6.5 and not Manilla/TouchFlo 3D. I was thinking that maybe if I can find the cab that runs when you do a hard reset if that will reset it and just install the standard stuff on top of what is there already.
On WM 5 it was easy to find that CAB file in the Windows folder but on 6.5 I can't seem to find it...

Hi, I had this problem once before (last year) and ended up having to do a hard reset.
Got problem again the other day and really wanted to avoid another HR so did some digging. This utility worked a treat.
Ran it, counter still said 1 unread message; turned off and re-started, counter unchanged; happened to receive a call almost immediately so let it go to voicemail, checked voicemail and when I'd finished the notification had gone!
From what the previous post mentioned about sending self an e-mail, I guess it had something to do with the notification system receiving a prompt?
Anyway, sorted and v.happy!
