Something that has annoyed me with the new TOM TOM after an update from TOM TOM Home it installed it on my main memory instead of storage card so therefore it now takes up so much room that I can't install any more programs. Any way of modding the installation cab to install on my storage card instead ????
Have searched and also tried using pocket mechanic to move whole program to storage cars but then the gps refused to lock on.

..when installing tt on internal storage map share will not work any more!
Move all files except tthome.bif (created when connecing to tthome) to the internal memory, create a Program (or Program files folder head memory. (I don't have an english version and am not sure of which name.)
Keep a copy of CurrentMap.dat and UserPatch.dat in the original folder.
Home works, everything else as before. Not sure if this is the nicest way, but it works.
P.S. You have to create a new shortcut to TomTomNavigator.exe in the programs folder, and delete the old one.
Thanks have sorted it by filling up my main memory with MP3's etc then trying to install the cab. It then says memory full do you want to install on storage and voila sorted.

Hi, guys,
Here's one from Kaiser newbie (sorry if there's an answer to this somewhere, tried, but couldn't find it):
Have a (un)brand(ed) new Kaiser and this 2GB Micro SD Card. The thing is, no matter what I do, I can't force that bundled TT6 Navigator (or any other version, for that matter!) to install on my SD!!!
Before you ask, I need it because I am frequently commuting throughout Balkans, and (as if that alone wasn't enough ) the ONLY map TomTom released covering that area so far was v6.08 East Europe BETA which has around 170MB. There's a lot of local forums stating that it is quite operational, but needs a bit of tweaking to get it there, which includes puting both TT6 app and the Eastern_Europe-Map folder to the root of SD.
Piece-a-cake, I thought, but then I hit the wall... I do get to a point of being asked for an install location, but even if I select my SD card ("Storage card"), I end up with TT6 installed in default Program Files folder! Tried with ActiveSync, manual install, CabInst and some other reg-tweakers (promising to solve things but failing miserably), etc., to no avail.
Not just that app, to be specific, some other behave likewise, but then, there are also those that play along, so...
What gives?!?
Try making a "My Documents" folder in the Root of the SD card, then install there or if you already have the maps there, just copy the map folder into My Documents on your SD card.
Are you sure the actual app is installed in the devices main memory. When you install to the SD it still has to install some files on the device - such as the shortcut to the actualy program.

Well, tried that one up, as well as making SD card "Program Files", but doesn't work that way. I'm sure it's because after I move the "Navigator" folder from MyDevice Program Files to SD card, there's a plenty of registry keys still pointing out to the default location... The problem is I can't make ActiveSync to actually install the damn thing anywhere on SD card.

Yes, because I located several folders on MyDevice with TomTom related files, and NONE on my SD card...
Thanks anyway, guys, any help is appreciated.
Quick update:
I did the hard reset. I'll try out "fresh" install, maybe something got messed up in my registry, then I'm back with results - usefull if someone else out there have the same problem (and I've found quite a few of those unfortunate souls ).

Yeah, this isn't going to work. The installation needs to go to the SD card in the first place.
Uninstall whatever it is you want on the card.
When you do the installation, make sure the card is in the phone. Connect your phone to your PC and don't immediately launch the installation. In WMDC or Active Sync, go to "Add/Remove Programs." There's a check box on the screen that will open that says "Install applications to default location" or something along those lines. If you can uncheck it, do so (it's not available sometimes).
When you actually do the install, check the mobile phone - it should be prompting you for where you want to install the app. Select the radio button for the Storage card, and you should be good to go.
Ok, now this is ridiculous!
After a hard reset, tried to install TTN 6, and, when asked for an install location, selected "Storage card"... Nevertheless, the damn thing installed to the Mobile device instead (again, so I give up trying to put it on SD for good!), but, to my surprise, I have managed to start it up and it even recognized my map ("Eastern_Europe-Map" folder on SD card)! Boy, was I happy as a pig in the s... Simpsons Movie ! Quited and started the app several times to ensure it's lock and loaded for good - yep, it was working all right...
But, guess what? After a later soft reset, TomTom hit me back with "No map found" again, seems like it has lost the "show-me-the-map-location-key-thingy" from the registry!!!
So, who da f#$% do I have to kill for this?
Try installing it from the sd card - ie put the cab files on the sd card and load it from there.
Thanx, tried that one already (described in my previous post), it got me closest to the goal, ie. that's how I got TT6 recognizing my map from SD card and working as a peach 'til next soft reset...
What could change in execution of an app after just reseting a device? The only thing coming to my mind is some Windows-style-run-once-regkey that screws things up, which makes no sense since the app should be legit, coming bundled with the Kaiser an all that...
Any idea?
I would guess it more to some registry settings remaining from the flawed installations.
Is there a setting in TT that tells it where to find the maps?
I don't know how, but, hey - it's working now!
Right.
First of all - it's working. I don't know the apparent reason, but what i did was:
1) A hard reset.
2) None of that Spring Backup restore stuff. Although I used to restore just emails and personal database, left it out completely this time around.
3) Installed manually all of the usual tweaks, apps and stuff first, then put the TT6 cab down to my SD card again.
4) Synchronized my emails, contacts and the likes using ActiveSync.
4) Installed TT6 from SD card again, but before starting it for a first time, made a full Spring backup - the idea was, if the thing tends to work just for the first time it's started, I could easily restore it should it start loosing it again after a soft reset.
And that was it. Then started TT6, played around with it for a couple of minutes, and did a soft reset.... TA-DAAAAAH, it's up and running again and again, so no problem with it anymore.
Is it just me, or this makes no sense whatsoever, but, hey, it's working so why bother with it any longer.
Thanks a lot for your help, see you again in next week's episode of "I don't know how, but, hey - it's working now!"
Cheers.
Just a random question,
This community is allways knowledgable so any insight would be great!
I got TOMTOM for my kaiser today and I was attempting to install it
to my SD card (8gig..6 of which free) but during the installation
process i didnt even get the option to change the installation location.
it just auto-installed to my internal mem. not so bad but after i start
adding voices and maps its going to not be enough space. So my question
is ...is there a way to reroute programs to the SD post installation...forcably
install to an SD..or link parts to a program, like maps for a GPS, from an SD.
thanks for any insight kaiser fans!
you can install tomtom on your device and place the voices and the maps of the sd card
I installed the voices on the SD...it wasnt able to find them until they were added to the specific "voices" folder. is there a way to make tomtom look elsewhere for the files? or a way to shortcut into the original directory? preferably id love to find away to override it and force the entire program to install onto my SD...I havent the slightest on how to do that though.

Is this normal for TomTom??
Installation locations are chosen/set by the SW author at the time of cab creation. There may be a way of re-directing this but it would probably cause a heap of problems.
Installation of the main apps to internal memory is usually done to give the maximum speed efficiency of regularly called files, SD card access is much slower than main memory.
Bit of a trade off...
Couldn't say if it was normal for tomtom,
its my first time installing it/using it. But what you said about memory in general makes ALOT of sense. Thanks!
I'll keep poking around tomtom forums specifically for a way to link the features to the SD..maps, voices, POIs etc. thanks for the advice.
did you place the voice files in the root of the sd card??
create a folder called "voices" in the root of the sd card and then place the voice files in there
as for the maps, put the folder of the maps in the root of the sd card
That worked like a charm!
Thanks for the help. I didnt have them in the root directory i was just trying to find a way to link my custom dir.
Thanks for your help

Check your 'voices' folder. It sounds like you don't have any voices installed.
Does it work as normal except for voice or does it not allow you to use it without a voice set?

I didn't put any in there...Where would I find this folder????
The install should have done it for you. Where did you get your copy of tomtom?
Also. The voices folder should be on you storage card in the root.
here is my voices folder. Just copy it to your storage card and then soft reset your phone. After which, go to 'my device\Program Files\Navigator\voices' and delete the 'collected' file. If that file is missing, tomtom will re-scan for voices and "should" find your new voices.

Good deal. So your voices folder is in your main memory? You must not have any maps then since they are pretty big. If your folder is in main memory you should be able to just copy them there. Maybe.

I found A voices folder..it has one .wma file in it..I can't find anything using the route you provided..Please bare with me...I switched from a Treo to the tilt
If you don't mind me asking, how did you get a 4gig for 12 bucks?
The normal use of tomtom is to put all the files on the the SD then put the SD card into your tilt. Once you put the SD card into your tilt for the first time, tomtom installer will automatically load and install tomtom to your tilt. After which it will launch tomtom navigator and walk you through the setup procedure. Are you installing tomtom from your computer via a tomtom installer? Like tomtom home? What version is it(both home and the actual tomtom on your tilt)? It would be ideal if you are using a tomtom installer on your computer to install it on a SD card. Then it would save you space and work the way I was describing it. Where did you get your copy of tomtom? Was it from xda-developers? Did you buy it? Or did you get it from someplace that can not be talked about(please do you mention anything about pirated software or warez)? Just say other.
It's important to have a later version like tomtom 6.036 or higher. I realize this is a lot of stuff but it's important. Take your time. Plus I'm drunk and babeling on. Hopefully you can understand it. I'll be back on in 8-10 hours.

I had a friend of mine add Dutty's rom on my tilt about 3 weeks ago..I can't begin to tell you the version number
I just got another Tom Tom Map. I had a previous one that was given as a free download. I placed the new map in the same folder. But when I start Tom Tom and go to change maps I do not see it. All I see is the original map. Where exactly should I be placing this new map? What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated. TIA
Anyone Anyone?
Hi there,
Place each indvidual map folder under My Documents on Storage card. Each map must have its own folder eg. IBERIA, SOUTHERN AFRICA, etc etc. Then TomTom will pick up the new map.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
MAC
I have had both TomTom 6 & 7 running on my Kaiser and in both cases the maps were stored in folders off the root on the storage card - e.g \United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland_Vxxx.xxxx\

what i did is i actually just loaded the Map folder to my Storage card. clicked and dragged and it works like a charm. also when i set up my TT7 i installed it to my storage card instead of the device (i dont know if that makes a diff) but it seems to save my settings alot better when i am flashing my rom. so i dont need to reset my home address or anything
I found that most of my map folders end in the text ....MAP i.e.
Australia_Map
Great_Britain_ Major Roads_of Europe_Map
Deutschland_Map
etc.
All in the root directory of the SD card.
hi
this may be a dumb question, but tbh i have been trying to get it working for a week.
i bought copilot live 8 which is compatable with my htc touch diamond but after installing the software i cant install the maps, i have 100mb free of space on my device and there is no option to install it on my internal memor (3.2gb free). i have the UK & Ireland mapps which amount to 186mb. copilot central 2.0 doesnt come with the option either when i attempt installing it from my computer.
also copilot have not answered anyone of my 5 emails, usless! TomTom arn't this rude.
thank you to everyone who attempts to cure my touch diamond/copilot problem

put all files on to internal memory and should work fine.(copy + paste)mine does
First off, I'm definitely NOT one of the experts on XDA. I'm basically a newbie on a lot of this stuff. That said, I have CoPilot V8 on my Diamond and love it.
All I did was (a)download the software, (b)copy it ALL over to my Internal Storage (do not use Active Sync), (c)rename the 2577 file to 2577C so it doesn't autorun until I tell it to, (d)safely remove device from computer, (e)go to file explorer - find 2577C on Internal Storage - and hit Autorun.
I install everything to Internal Storage since I am low on "storage memory."
Don't know if that was what you're looking for or not.
El Mono
P.S. For this initial install you do not need to employ their PC program at all.
SOLUTION to my problem, maybe urs in the future!
i had to do somthing similar to that! thanks for helping giving me a a baseline on which to start!
A) download data
B) copy both 2577 and copilot to the internal memory
c) disconnect from the computer go to 2577 with the file explorer and hit auto run
D) run copilot go through the intial settings like, voice, imperial ect.....
E) once that is done and it says no maps installed restart the diamond device
F) plug the phone back into the computer with active sync and go to the internal memory. look for file "copilot" gps tracks, info, save and speech should be in there, delete them all!
G) go back to internal memory and find where YOU saved the "2577 and copilot" files copy everything in the "copilot file" (in my case maps for EU) EU, gpstracks, info and speech.
H) go back to the "copilot" file where you deleted everything and paste of the data which you just copied. 'wait a while'
I) once it is done run copilot and it should immdiatly start intigrating POI's
-------------------- DONE! -----------------------
this is why i like XDA Devlopers, everyone is there to help cheers guys!
