Tilt Wont download attachments - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

My Tilt just started acting up on me. Basically if an email is sent to me that has an attachment I get a message "The attachment cannot be found. Download this attachment again" then give me a yes/no option. I get the same thing when I try to download it again. I'm using gmail w/the standard email client that came w/the Tilt. Up until recently I never had any problems. Any ideas on what would cause this? Thx

Anyone having any issues similar to this w/their phone and gmail?

its a common problem for windows mobile that stores attatchments through a memory card or your "my documents". you will find that deleting the actual file (inbox message) on your memory will resolve this problem. try to delete the file and go back to your email and download the attatchment again. sometimes when you have sveral files stored it has trouble finding the actual file or the file is duplicating therefore it cant recognize the item.

Just applied this advice to the problem I was having and it worked perfectly.
Thank You

Problem with POP3 email attachments

I am collecting my mail from a POP3 mailbox but am unable to view or open any attachments.
The header of the message is received and there is a link in the message that gives me the option to download the full message and any attachments. When I click this the message changes to say that the attachment will be downloaded the next time I do a "Send and Receive".
On selecting "Send and Receive" the phone connects and appears to download the attachment. I say this because if it is a large attachment the phone says it is downloading for some minutes. If it is a small attachment the time is much shorter.
Either way when the download is complete any text in the message is visible but there is no sign of an attachment.
If I use ActiveSync to collect the same mail from my PC all the attachments are visible and can be opened.
Any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
do you have a full data plan? I had this problem with using tzones or one of the lower plans

Jonathan - thanks for the response.
I don't believe the data plan is the problem - I have 3GB a month allowance and can easily download files etc. via the web browser.
Perhaps if anyone else uses a POP3 mailbox they could confirm whether or not they can pick up attachments.
I can say that I can have received, opened, and viewed PDF's on my phone so it can work. I'm sure you've checked, but in the email account Menu>Tools>Options>"your pop3 account" go thru the steps until the last one before finish and make sure that the "message download limit" drop down box is set to "Entire Message", (choices are 2, 5, 20, 50k, Headers Only, Entire Message).
Good Luck!
Reme - thanks so much for the reply
I take it you are talking about mail that has been received from a POP3 mail server rather than from Exchange or via ActiveSync.
If so then it is very strange. The message size in my Inbox would seem to indicate that the attachment has been downloaded but there is no link to open or save it.
Unless anyone else has any ideas I suppose will have to try a factory reset.
...was this issue ever properly resolved as am getting exactly the same problem with my XDA MiniS/Qtek 9100? Problem started out of the blue some days ago and has nothing to do with tariff/network settings or email settings on the device. The bizarre thing is that if I compile an email with attachment on my other WM device (XDA IIi) and use the MiniS to collect the email (POP3) then all OK! (and vice versa). Any emails with attachments that are not compiled and sent by a WM device work on the XDA IIi but no longer work on the MiniS - bizarre....
Same symptoms as thread author... download an entire email which I know has attachment and the message size is correct but no paperclip icon on the message in the inbox list and no attachment file icon in the message header itself - just an empty message (except for any text that might be in the body of the message).
Have tried hard reset and restoring from a full back-up but the backup simply recreates the problem as no doubt the screwy file/registry entry/whatever is preserved in the back-up making process. Am trying to avoid complete hard reset without a restore as do not want to lose my Contacts/Calendar data and the laborious process of reinstalling all my programs - some of which will then need activating again due to DRM licences.
Oh, and I have tried deleting the email account and recreating it but the problem will not go away...

POP3 email attachments - problem identified

Since my last thread and after a number of tests I believe I have have now discovered why it is possible to see and open some email attachments collected from a POP3 Mail Server and not others.
It appears that if an email is sent in Text Format then both the message and the attachment are received by the TyTN and the attachment can be opened by clicking on the link in the message.
However, if the same email is sent in HTML Format the message and the attachment are again received by the TyTN but there is no link to the attachment in the message and it cannot be opened.
If the same emails are collected from Outlook via ActiveSync all the attachments are visible and can be opened irrespective of whether the email is in Text or HTML Format.
Unless I am alone with this problem this is clearly a major bug for a business PDA.
For many users it is one of the main functions of the device to be able to send and receive attachments. To have to look at each email and try and guess whether there might have been an attachment before asking for it to be re-sent in Text Format rather negates the whole point of the device.
Furthermore, it seems as though the "hidden" attachments are saved with the message on the device itself rather than on the Storage card so could rapidly eat up the available memory.
Before I refer the matter to HTC I would be grateful if someone could verify my findings. I have also seen reports that someone on another forum overcame the problem by using a third party mail reader. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Bump
Am I the only one here who uses the TyTN for email ?
I would love to hear whether others have the same problem and if so how it is solved ?

Email - Attachments - Not Downloading

Hi everyone,
I just can´t download the attachments of emails I receive...I make the sync, I receive the emails, but when I try do download the attachments it just don´t work (it seems that its going to download, it show that "download arrow" aside de attachment, but nothing happens and the "download arrow" just goes away...).
Can you help me with it?
Nobody?
I have just installed a new ROM and nothing...its seems to be hardware problem, and that really sucks.
With my Touch Cruise and with the same configuration, everything just works fine. With my friend´s Diamond, everythings works fine either.
However, with mine it´s impossible to download email´s attachment...damn...
Have you checked your email settings??...if not check there...click on the account your having probs with and go through the settings ie advanced settings and there should be something there regarding downloading attachments.
For my gmail account, i have all attachments downloaded when i get new emails.

downloading first all headers and only after you choose witch attachments you are interested in and make anther send\receive you'll get them.
Thank you for your response.
However, this is not a settings problem. I have checked and re-checked all the settings. Actually, the settings on my Diamond are exactly the same I had on my Cruise, and are the same I have inserted into another Diamond.
It's really strange...always when I try to download attachments it shows "error synchronizing". I have already choosen the external memory to be the place to file the attachments, but it didn't worked.
On the attachments folder at the external memory it only shows some "empty" icons, but there are no attachments downloaded over there.
It is so frustrating...damn...

That's exactly what I do. On my Cruise it was the same...the header first...than choosing the files, and after all that pressing the send/receive. But this is not working with the Diamond.
It starts the procedure of downloading the files, and after all it finishes the procedure without downloading it. It also clear the "downloading arrow", as if the download had been finished...but it's not...
Exactly the same thing happens with the TyTN II in certain circumstances.
As far as I can tell the problem only arises with HTML mail and even then it seems to depend upon the mail program that sent the message attachment. If I receive an HTML message sent from Outlook by one of my clients I can download the attachment but if I send myself the same email from Outlook on my own machine the attachment disappears.
Judging by the size of the email (on the TyTN at least) the attachment is in fact downloaded but is just not visible.
Try sending yourself or getting someone to send you an email in text format with and attachment and my guess is that you will be able to download and see it.

Thank you mate. I have just tryed this, but it also didn't worked...I'm totally lost...I just don't know what to do, and I'm really planning to smash the Diamond against my bedrooms wall....hehehehehe...
Nobody? No clues?
I have already updated Diamond´s ROM, and nothing happened.
I have also called the HTC support in the US, and no way of getting the emails´ attachments downloaded...damn...
I have changed my ROM at least 4 times...now I'm using the 137.456.2, and the attachments still not downloading....frustrating....
Guys, this is my last posting regarding this matter...I promisse!!!
Unfortunatelly, this attachment issue that I have faced is too much for me. I have tryed to change the ROM...I've changed the settings...I've prayed the Lord and I've entered into an agreement with the Devil itself...and nothing happened.
The Diamond's behavior is not exactly what I've thought a up-to-date device should have.
Shame on HTC...that has acted such as a minor company...
Therefore, I'l have to get bach to Sony...Xpria here I come!!!!!!!!!
SOLUTION!!
Hello,
I too noticed this issue, and found this thread this evening in attempting to resolve it. GOOD NEWS – cracked it!
I had exactly the same issues as you, and I also had multiple Windows Mobile 6.1 devices to test with (including 2 x HTC Diamonds). All WM6.1 devices had the same issue, although an old WM5 device (original HTC Touch in fact) worked fine.
This led me to think it could well be a backend Exchange 2007 configuration issue - and indeed it was: basically a Exchange 2007-set policy to which only the newer devices would adhere to.
Very simple to change:
1. From your Exchange 2007 server go into the ‘Exchange Management Console’
2. Open up the ‘Client Access’ pane which is beneath the ‘Organisation Configuration’ tree
3. Right click on your defined rule (‘Default’ by, erm, default!) and click ‘Properties’
4. Go to the ‘Sync Settings’
5. You need to tick the (now rather obvious!) ‘Allow attachments to be downloaded to the device’
6. Click OK
7. FIXED!
FYI. when I first looked at this a few months ago, ie. when I first migrated my test platform over to Exchange 2007, I assumed here I was defining the default download policy for a given Windows Mobile device, ie. the same as you enter on the device (when selecting how much of a message header to load, how many days/weeks of past calendar etc).. where-as instead on further attention to detail it transpires you are simply giving permission / setting limits here in the Exchange 2007 interface and then you setup your actual preferences on the device itself.
Hope this all makes sense.. and brings an end to your sleepless nights!
Si
Nice.
Thank you Mate.
I have found this other solution, which I have apllied and worked nicelly:
"I have a 800w with Windows mobile 6.1 connecting to a 2003 Exchange
SP2 server. Everything is syncing just fine with active sync but when
I try to open a attachment I get nothing. It looks like its
downloading but never turns the icon to a real icon.
(...)
Well after another couple of hours on the phone with Microsoft we have
at least identifies the problem. The IIS server we have OMA on is
also hosting web services for Citrix. The Citrix licensing service
uses Tomcat for most of its functionality and when we disabled the
isapi_redirect.dll, the phone was able to download again. Looks like
its off to Citrix or Apache for the fix unless someone out there knows
of a fix. "
My problem was exactly the above: Citrix + WinMobile 6.1 + 2003 Exchange Server.
See ya!
How did you disable the dll?
How exactly did you disable the dll?
Did you Prohibit "Tomcat Servlet Engine" under Web Service Extension?
I found this blog that details the issue, however the link to his patched dll is broken:

Blackberry Connect Cannot Download Attachments

Hello all,
I am unable to view or download attachments with blackberry connect.
I have tried various attachments (.jpg, .pdf, .doc, etc.) and I have tried various sizes (1kb, 30kb, 100kb, etc.)
I have tried changing the AKU.
Nothing has resulted in success.
Further Detail:
I open up the mail client and this allows me to look in the "Inbox". I will see my emails. The emails with attachments will have the attachment icon next to them instead of the stand "envelope" icon. However, after opening the email with the attachment, there is no attachment to click on to download.
I have searched extensively, and have found no help. The other attachment errors do not have the behavior that mine does.
I am currently running:
Blackberry Connect 4.0.0.104
on
HyperDragon III Blackstone WWE 2008.12.03
Using Blackberry Connect Desktop for Windows Mobile 4.0.0.22
Does anyone have any recommendations or similar experiences?
The same issue occurs with gmail via BES.
I get this as well, but there seems to be some rudimentary viewer in BBC. If I get an attachment (say a MS Word document) I can see it attached to the email when I open it (there is also a paperclip displayed next to the email in the inbox). If I tap and hold where the attachment is a list is displayed with the options 'Download', 'Save As...', and 'Open' at the top but these are all greyed out. Underneath are three more options 'Retreive Table of Contents', 'Retreive Content' and 'Enter Password'. Only the two 'Retreive' options can be selected. If I select 'Retreive Content' and let it download then tap and hold the attachment again another option appears 'View Content'. If I select this I can view the content, however it doesn't open up in Pocket Word. This works for other file formats as well, however the viewer isn't very good.
I have used a couple of versions of BBC and they all behaved the same so I guess this is a restriction of using BBC?
Andy
It is not a limitation of BBC.
I had it working fine when on Dutty's Rom.
It also worked with Hyperdragon III.
Perhaps I need to do a re-image of the ROM and try one of the older BBC. I am currently usng .104
Perhaps I should go back to .100
Same Problem
Hi anyone managed to sort out this small problem? Please do post.
Anybody have answers for this? Been searching for months not come up with anything
Update 10th August 09
FOUND IT!!!
All that was needed was to untick the box for storing attachments on the memory card. This setting is found under the storage tab in tools > options menu when you are viewing messages in an email account. Any new messages that come through after this with attachments will show in the message header and can be downloaded.

THANKS FOR THE SOLUTION!!!!! I was looking for a solution for more than 30 days... I dont understand why BBC dont work well if the box for storing the attachments on memory card is tick. Be aware that even you untick the box you will not download the attachments of the past e-mails, only the attachments that you will receive in the future (after you untick the box for storing attachments on the memory card)

Mail Application Email Size Limit Attachment

I've run into something on my Nexus One running Modaco's R21 with intercectRs 2.6.33.3 Kernel. Not sure if anybody has this issue with the stock Rom or any others.
I sent myself an email to download a few things, .zip files that were just 11MB.
When I went into the Mail application and clicked on the attachment and Show, then you click the link to download it, it highlights then comes back at the bottom and flashes the message: "Unable to download this attachment."
This is via my Exchange mail account that I know isn't a mail server issue.
This is strictly the mail client running on the Droid platform I am running. Also, I was using my local WiFi secure connection on my network, so bandwidth/speed wasn't going to be an issue.
I tried an 8.8MB file, it download no problem.
Tried a 10.8MB (it shows 11MB) file. Message as listed above, unable to download the attachment.
Also, I sent the same email to Gmail..same issue, the ability to Download the attachment doesn't exist and it doesn't allow it, although Gmail allows 10MB files. I logged into the gmail web app, no problems.
Just seems to be the Mail client on the Android phone.
Anybody else have this problem with their build? Seems to be strictly an email client issue on the platform.
Thanks
