Hi All;
Does anyone have a simple plugin to effectively close application (close button (X) doesn't close the application, it still runs in a background).
Is SPB PocketPlus the only option?

TranCreative MagicButton. Accept no substitutes. MB is simple, but really effective.
Wasn't that one of the new features of WM2005 when marketed by MicroSoft before the release? (among others that didn't make it into the final production)
I use GSPocketMagic++. Does it all, no need for any other sys utils.
close pplications using two clicks of the stylus
Hi,
I use a program called VBAR which is free ware and alows you to close individual programs or all programs using just two clicks of the stylus, Seems to be quite small so not a drain on my XDA II

P.s. I am running a 2400mah battery, lasts at least 2 full days on standby.
Surprised nobody's mentioned Harald-René Flasch's free 'Switch' app, an excellent little piece of software which I have on my phone and have had almost since day dot.

Thank you about your kind words about Switch.
Some hate it but a lot seems to love it
Of course I am using it also daily (on LOOX 600 using PPC2002 + MDA Compact II using WM2005).
Another vote for MagicButton, here. Use it and love it.
Guys,
For summary, I've created the list of plugins/task manager that can effectively close the applications.

13. wisBar - http://walkers.ne.jp/ce00_wisbar.htm

This is what I found so far, feel free to add in to the list if you know others.

My vote goes for Wisbar.
Vibranze, great list.
I've used Small Menu Plus for several years, does what I need.
I like the look of pTask or pBar or whatever it's called, on this forum.
One of the older Wisbars, or GSPocket Magic are good alternatives.

PS Note that the Pocket PC Experts Awards judge this category of products. Check out their reviews. I'm judging this category this year

Do you have the URL for the reviews?
I tried small menu, it can't auto bind with Win key like WisBar, so I need to use AE Button to map it.

Don't have url. Just google for Pocket PC Experts Awards and then go through the required categories. Let me know if you have any specific issues with any of the reviewed apps.

CE 5.2 not supported ?!?
Hello everyone,
I have CE 5.2 (in case you don't know what this is, it's called popularly Windows Mobile 6 or WM6). But the tools I see here don't all work on 5.2 ... and the ones that don't work can be fully skinned, and that's what I want!
So: I want something FREEWARE (commercial is not an option for me... ) that can be fully skinned, like WisBar Advance (it's commercial, so no way), or like IcBar.
IcBar could be good, but it is not working on WM6.
BTW: Not all ones for WM5 (CE 5.0) work with WM6! ( ) And as far as I know, the ones for PPC2003SE or lower really don't work! (example: WisBar Advance 1.3.3.2 for PPC2003 worked at 1 frame/year)
an old thread but worth reopening: MagicButton!!!
I just downloaded and installed on my Axim 50Xv with LennySh L11 6.1
It looks great so far. Anyone should give it a try.
Find at: http://www.trancreative.com/mb.aspx
Yes, it's in the list Never tried before, heard after use several time there will be an issue, not sure though.

I vote for Wisbar but it cost, WkTask is free and kinda good
Also try PointUI at http://pointui.com

I'm using wkTask as well and it's good.

Another vote for SPB, a combination of SPB Pocket Plus and SPB Mobile Shell is superb. Today bundles together a few other things as well.
Are you willing to pay for software as these aren't free?
Spb Programs....worth every penny
I am running Spb Pocket Plus, Diary, phone, traveller & time (with Spb Backup as well)
Totally ditched TF3D as its only to get the girls (and I already gotta girl )
u can get skins for BatteryStatus (believe the name has changed) which show all the info u want... there is a big post full of them somewhere (think it is under Development and Hacking section).
yes I see that spb programs are very cool and I`m willing to pay for them.
Thanks
My wife got me a diamond for christmas, it replaced an original Touch (vogue). I wonder if I could bother the experts with a few questions..
1. Other than keyboard and memory expansion is there any real benefit to go with a touch pro? I had 2gb expansion on my old touch and never exceeded it.
2. My carrier is sprint, model is DIAM500, ROM 1.09.651.5 Which if any Custom ROM upgrade would y'all recomend,
3. Major complaint: I listen to a lot of audio books. When listening and wearing headphones OR using aux input on sterio, it auto answers even though I have auto answer turned off in phone settings... any ideas.
4. I've installed a new theme, only complaint is home screen limited plug-ins. Does HTC have a TF3D API to expand or is that limited?
5. I have advanced config installed, gyro 2 installed, TFT3d config, and sbp phone suite... any other "essentials" anyone can recomend?
I have limited WM and CE development experience (Ford Sync and WM5 basic apps). Any dev tools a "must have" for development or theme development for this phone?
I have tried to find some of the above answers but have not had much luck, perhaps because of my limited knowledge. Any assistance would be most appreciated.
1 think only the touch pro support the tv out cable
and for development then depend on what you wish to develop
if you wish to develop apps you will need
visual studio if you want to make .net apps and visual studio and wm6 std if you wish
to develop c++ win32 apps
if you just want to make skins ms paint is likely to be enough

Honnestly, it all depends of your needs. Some like to go more all out where as others like to have faster roms in terms of response. So it's really what you want to have.
Also there are different rom versions which do extra stuff. Depends what you want to do.
Make sure you read the HOW TO's section in the ROM Development section.

Make sure you get yourself a GPS software hahaha
You may want to look at the whole debate behind SensorLock, S2U2 and AutoKeysDisabler (not quite sure of the exact name). SensorLock is what I use and is pretty good for what it does.

If you want to make applications for windows mobile, like Rudegar said you will need Visual Studio.
If you wish only to make tweaks and package them in cabs for other uses to use, consider WinCE Cab Manager.
Enjoy your Diamond
Thanks for the responses guys! Most appreciated.

Will do. Are most ROM's carrier specific (or will I find out in the how to's? )

No, not tabls, but the home screen... on mine I only have a clock, call history, and calendar available. I'm used to the old home screen where I could enable which plug-ins to display (e.g. SPB phone suite today plug in). Don't get me wrong, I can adjust just fine if not available...

Yup, got VS 2008 enterprise + WM6 sdk and emulators. Will look into WinCE cab manager. Is HTC going to release an SDK for the TF3D?

1. This answer depends on the user. For those who like texting with one hand and feel that 4gb of internal storage is more than adequate, like myself, then the soft-keyboard only device is fine.
2. As far as custom roms go, the second thing you should look at is getting hardspl on your phone; the first being the CDMA section of this board.
3. an app? an ipod?
4. im sorry that's beyond my limited realm of knowledge. TF3D seems fairly closed to that stuff.
5. phm registry editor
Umm yeah, so... hi.
Hi,
I'm working on a networking project. Im using the following device:
Platform: HTC TyTN II Kaiser
Operating System: Windows Mobile 6.1
I have a C++ programme that runs on linux in my computer. How can I run the same in this mobile device?
Many thanks
*Thread moved*
You need to use MS Visual Studio 2005 (or 2008) to compile the C++ program.
Or embedded visual C++.
A list of dev tools for PPC is on the wiki : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Complete list of Development links and resources
Thanks

Throwing in my 2 cents in. Save yourself the trouble and don't even consider Embedded Visual C++ (4). Stick VS 2005+ and you'll be good.
The free express versions do not support mobile development.

This is what you need to know. There are SDKs for Pocket PCs that are built into Visual Studio. The default ones are adequate. Typically, you'll connect to a PDA/PocketPC via ActiveSync. Visual Studio will pick up on this. There are specific mobile properties and options for this.
From that point, it's point and shoot. When you debug an application, it will automatically go over to the Windows CE device. If you're doing .Net it will install a cab for .Net
Thanks again Peter for your reply.
Even though my project is to programme for this HTC device I don't have the device yet. So what I need to do is test it on my laptop.
Is there any Windows Mobile 'simulator' that I can run on my computer and test?
Also I will need to install Visual Studio on this simulator, is it?

Hi Peter,
Please take a look at the above links. Are these any of the ones I should use?
Thanks
You want to get a copy of Visual Studio 2005 or 2008 if you are serious about programming - I got it from my university and the MSDNAA Website which allows students to download selected MS software which is related to my course for free - and being a computer science student they give me VS 08.
But it is available on several torrent websites. Remember I am not recommending nor do I condone illegal downloading of pirated software - I am only providing information for research purposes.
Why do you want it?
Its a complete developement environment - You get everything - Including an emulator to test your programs. You can download plugins, which let you program in other languages (e.g. I have the VB Mobile plugin which allows me to program in VB for mobile devices) - The plugins are free.
Personally, I use it for a large chunk of my programming - as it supports a vast array of programming languages - and it includes built in compilers (I know this sounds obvious, but I have used programming environments which do not contain compilers), Emulators (for testing) and can support alot more with downloadable plugins (obviously you need the SDK).
If your PC is a little old (eg early XP) - get VS05 - but if you have a newer PC (late XP to Vista), get VS08, they both do basically the same thing.
Hope this helps.
Hi again,
Many thanks for your reply
Will this version of VS work for my project? :
Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition (90-day Trial)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ec-ed72-4a79-8961-25635db0192b&displaylang=en
If it does... then i will install it first in my laptop (which run Win XP Pro) and then I will install the emulator.
This is the emulator right?

hi everybody, that's my first thread here,i'm from italy,my blackstone has a cooked rom "lucapicci nextgen 1.7.2 with wm6.1
i don't like any graphic user interface, after i tried everything, manila, spb mobile shell,pointui....i prefer to use the simply, light, windows without interface.
so,
i wanna try a rom based on wm 6.5 or 6.5.1 but i can't find a picture of the today without graphin interface.
can u help me?

thanks man,but i can't find any screenshot....
bye!
Use google ? I think there are more than enough 6.5 screenshots arround
Why don't you just disable Sense then?
i've tried to lookin for with google,i found a lot of pics, but i dont know how is the wm6.5 without interface...
maybe i have to choose a rom and flash the blackstone.....
They all have the basic windows interface you just need to disable the HTC one and enable the windows default, as mentioned above there are a million screenshots online if you use a search engine like google.
from any 6.5 rom...
click start/settings/today
you'll then be presented with the theme selection page, at the bottom are two tabs "appearance" and "items"
click the "items" tab
you'll then see a tickbox list
DESELECT "HTC Sense"
SELECT "Windows Default"
press the tick in the top right hand corner
press the home button.
That's how windows 6.5 looks.
If you want you can also change the themes from the "appearance" tab you were at earlier, most roms come with 3 or 4 6.5 themes as well as the htc and windows default versions.
For a beginners FAQ I suggest you read the wiki which you can find by clicking the link below:

you are wrong.
HTC stuff works under, like oversized keyboard for grannies, very bad contact manager if you really use it, calendar appointment manager (which allows you only to snooze for 5mins), album which leaves goo in every folder it visited, and other not so easily detected stuff.
Disabling these flaws is not possible. Only by removing these brakes from the rom you get normally looking and behaving device.
BTW. there's many good up-to-date national ROMs without htc stuff by local chefs, they're just not WWE
take it easy with Ervius Kitchen give it a try and 2 evenings... you can cook perfect rom according to your choice... better than asking for any made Me did 23089 with only a basic apps I need, some wizards from htc which are not actually so bad (e.g. connection settings which automatically fulfill gprs, the htc keyboard and phone canvas). Man., contacts, etc. removed )
The only very bad thing with Ervius Kitchen by Sparkienl is the dshow driver, which has to be downloaded separately while the original new version is a piece of sh*t... follow the forum and you will see the solution.
If you are interested, I can upload you somewhere my rom... But I recommend you Sparkienl kitchen in this forum and building your own - really the fastest way, much more faster than asking still for improvements anybody.
sure you can upload your ROM somewhere
Or you can share with us the package selections (package.txt or *.erv) you selected.
