slow video play on tytnii - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

hi
i hve problem with my kaiser's video
it has low speed in some video file for example hq mp4 files
but that video is very fast in imate jam or htc touch 3g
i use core player but i have this problem still now
please help me
rom : 1.26.707.1 wwe
radio : 1.65.28.25
protocol version: 25.98.40.07h
and have a 4gb storage card

Could be numeous things, but the best you could do is lower the bitrate on Audio & Video, make sure nothing else running, CorePlayer installed to device memory, may be just read speed associated to memory card, might be worth formatting card and placing all back on so as fresh.

tried videos in the res of the screen ?
if you play very high res clips
the screen can't display most of the pixels but still
have to process the whole thing
a waste of space on the device and a sure performance killer

i still think that the best player is "smart movie player" ..
for the very best performance using it, though, encode first with its own encoder on pc.
i view full length movies and they never lag or go out of sync etc..

TCPMP Settings

Can anyone recommend what settings i should have my TCPMP player on my Tilt for playing video. when i go to youtube, it lags quite i bit, so i just figured it was one of those things i have to deal with when using a pda and going to a site like youtube. but i put a video file on my storage card and played it and it lags quite a bit, probably even worst than playing something on youtube, i went to the recommend settings for tcpmp but that doesn't seem to work for a video i play directly off my storage card, any ideas on who to get less lag, i'm also using version .81RC1. Thanks
Hi!
I use "Raw FramePuffer" or "GDI" under OPTIONS - VIDEO.
Just not "DirectDraw" - It looked really bad with that...
I stream Divx/Xvid files over WLAN and from microSD and it's OK.
I've tried those options, but i still get the lag, it plays a little better in wmp, but still laggy, could it be something w/the video i put on my card, i didn't convert it to anything, mainly because i dont know how, i just put the card in my usb adapter and plugged it into my computer and copied the file to the card. Or could it be something i need to change under settings? because like i mentioned i do get the lag while playing youtube.
anyone else have any ideas on how to get tcpmp to play video's w/o much lag? i'm getting quite a bit on files i put on my storage card, it's basically unwatchable.

Had the same problem. Until I resized/re-encoded the videos with eRightSoft SUPER video converter (Free). The key is to using the "DIVX / AVI Pocket PC" as the output format.
If this doesnt work then I would try a different SD Card.
I put a 4000kb buffer in TCPMP to get normal "xvid" TV episodes working. It's a little choppy, but certainly usable. I didn't notice battery draining more than normal, and for not having to spend hours reencoding video, the occasional choppiness is okay.
Yes, the best way is to recode the video files. I don't use no fancy app for this, just windows movie maker has that option to scale it to pocket pc or any format you like. Works quit well.
Link to SUPER video converter
This a link to the free software I use SUPER. I also included a screenshot with the settings that work for me. Enjoy

I found these settings on another forum and apparently they help, but I still can not play and mp4 file I encoded for the iPhone. I haven't tried other encodings, but I have seen some poeple (in addition to the OPs comment below) say DivX is one of the better types for the Tilt.
Windows Mobile Core Player Settings
I experienced the same thing on mine. I'm using TCPMP and I've found that the following steps help relieve some of the problems.
1. Options/Video:
Change from DirectDraw to Raw FrameBuffer
Uncheck "Dither" (whatever that is)
2. Options/Video/Pixel Aspect Ratio: set to Auto
3. Options/Settings/Advanced
Check "Slow Video Memory"
4. Options/Settings/Buffering
Change "Preload at Underrun" to 85%
Note: I'm using PocketDIVxEncoder to convert everything to AVI files with the right audio/video size and format and I've tweaked the rom quite a bit. The most important setting change I've found to improve response of programs/video came from the vx6700 forums:
H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/GDI/GLYPHCACHE/limit
change setting to either 32758 or 65536
I've tried both, and I'm using 32758 because it's a smaller memory footprint, but 65536 appears slightly faster.
dither 'smooths' out the colour gradients - so you dont see the nasty blockiness you get from high compression so much - also helps make the 16bit depth look a bit better
What about streaming video from your computer and re-encoding it on the stream server? Windows Media Server, VLC, and probably other apps can do this. I think Orb does this. Can anyone offer a comparison between TCPMPing divxs over the network and Orb-ing the same file?
I have tried ORB at home and it seems to work OK, but in order to really use it, you need to have a good network connection. So you are adding in yet another variable (and one which is almost completely unpredictable) to affect playback. Supposedly, ORB or Sling or whatever stream method you are using will detect your bandwidth and push you the best rate for your connection, but no connection means no playback. As an example, I couldn't get MobiTV to work over edge at all, which is promoted by AT&T as the way to watch TV on your phone. Right...

Best TCPMP configuration

Hi.
I'd like to know which settings result in the best video playback on the TyTN II.
Forgive me if this is posted somewhere else, but I could not find it when searching.
I'm running WM 6.1 Sleuth 3.0 with TCPMP 0.81.
How about the best settings for Coreplayer as well. Also running Sleuth 3.0. Sleuth any comments, you seem to have Coreplayer as well.

There is no best settings!
It's all about how you rip your movies!!
Have you ever heard the phrase, "Garbage in, Garbage out"
If you start out with a quality file, you won't need TCPMP to enhance or make it better.
All my movies are .avi and I use Clone DVD Mobile to rip them. Personally, I haven't had any issues playng movies with TCPMP or CORE Player.
All my settings are default
I'm copying videos that are not converted in any special way to play back good on mobile devices.

guys what dwny said is right .....but also you can search online for any dvd to ipod (zune) program and it will work as good also!!

SO far I noticed 2 things that effected quality of video.
I ripped 2 avi with different settings.
Video A was in 320x240 (cropped), 26fps
Video B was in 512x384 (unedited), 29fps
1) Video A played smoothly throughout. Audio lag was evident after about 1.5 hrs. Otherwise very watchable. Thus I figured 26fps is max for the Kaiser.
2) The video B skipped and dragged. Audio stayed in sync. When I selected TCPMP to play video B in full original size (overlapping the screen) it played smoother. Thus I figure that resizing is too much for the cpu of the Kaiser so when you encode, select 320x240.
fyi, audio was mp3 128kbps, 44000 on both.
I should specify what I mean by full original size.
Options --> Zoom ---> 100%
Also should specify I mean "when encoding select 320x240" MAXIMUM which will reduce the load on the cpu for video resizing.
You know, sometimes, you just happens to have badly ripped (poorly, or improperly or whatever but someone else did it and you don't have control) video but would like to watch it.
So, looking for better settings to improve the viewing.....
Latest video codec? audio codec? cache? how to set it? Where to get it from?........

Why wouldn't you just encode it to the natural screen size, and why wouldn't it having to resize bigger rips slow it down?
This is a pretty strange post.. Walking a mile is easier than running a mile. Walking a mile with nothing on your back is easier than walking a mile with Yoda on your back.

Watching Video from Device or Storage Card?

I've been trying to watch a .wmv video file on my TD2, but using WM Player its jerky.
I was wondering if it makes any difference if the file is on the actual device or a storage (SD) card from a performance point of view, i.e. does the phone read from its own memory quicker than the storage card?
Also, which is better out of TCPMP or Core Media Player?
Coreplayer
Can anyone answer my 1st question?
I have 8GB microSD card and when i am using it, it dosent make any difrence.
BUT! make sure you dont use all your memmory on the card, because the movies lags when you have full memmory.
Store All Your Video & Watch them from Storage Card !
It's makes "No" difference if the file is on the actual device or a storage (SD) card !! But, it will be better to convert the WMV to 3GPP format because WM Player have nothing special compare to other Multi-Media Player.
Also, it's real stupid that WMPlayer need to go to menu to stop the Video...
You just can't simply press the End Phone button to stop the Player or swift to other features... the Player is still running in the background!
Look Out for my thread regarding HTC ALBUM for Pocket PC Version 2.51 (Build 18676) in this forum under xda-developers > Topaz > Topaz general > Can Zoom-In & Zoom-Out while playing Video... Video Screen can rotate 360 degree. This Album_Multi-Media Player created by HTC for O2 xdaII Mini Pocket PC.

A clear, quality picture is required without any jerkiness, so I don't want to "downgrade" to 3GPP.
The .wmv file has a pretty high bitrate and if I reduce the size to 320x240 it plays fine without any jerkiness, but I'd like it to play the same at 640x480 !

i have the same problem too, it "lag" when i play video in full screen, can someone help? any idea how to fix this?
thanks
Have a look in this tread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517550
It was easy to find...
Anyway, i convert all my video using the VideoEncoder i linked to in the other tread, and play them in the HTCAlbum player(The same player thats used for video you recorded yourself).
The result is almost perfect playback, so I'm very happy with it.

Coreplayer for Xperia jerky and skips.

Guys i recently installed coreplayer for xperia. The issue i faced is the video playback is not upto the mark. Its kinda jerky and stops skips videos in between and not smooth.
Has anyone faced this issue with X1 by the way my friend has omnia and the same verison of coreplayer installed on his cell but the video playback is perfect without any skips.
same here...bought x1 5 days ago tried everything and that piece of crap doesnt work same as coreplayer :/ i downloaded the Video...Encoding...GUI_Full.HD stuff which converts video...converted one but the movie on X1 doesnt look like a movie !! it looks like a slideshow but guess what windows media player plays this video Perfectly...written by the big P so im asking wtf ??
the X1 does have some performance issues. this has been discussed several times in the past
the omnia performs a lot better because it has a much faster CPU and because the resolution is 1/4th of that of the xperia so it does not need to work as hard to get smooth playback
core player doesnt support x1 hardware acceleration... thats the main problem there
ok ok but what to do ? im playing aroung with it from the day i bought it and nothing that i tried helped and im a bit frustrated :/ i dont wanna use wmp
Maybe you should get an IPhooon its click and play no hussle and stuff no need to tweak and every thing works (well every thing that comes with it)
install custom rom... gfx booster... convert videos with tool posted here on forums and play them in media panel... no lag at all...
Media panel and converted movies is best solution. And no, you don't need custom rom.
Crystal player is just useless. Yeah, it's sad.
well thats wierd, i play 700mb highres avi files on coreplayer without any problem, maybe its the videos you try to play..? i only face lagging with flv files.
btw i have stock uk r3aa010
I found that some people find 80% speed 'perfect'. I can spot single dropped frame.
Run benchmark a post the results, subjective value is meaningless.
And yes, of course, it does depend on the movie. I play most of the 700mb movies under 90%.
i have not had any problems with coreplayer either....
The movie i am playing is in mkv format and around 500megs in size

1-Use HTC Touch HD video converter
2-Play your converted video with windows player or the media panel
3-Have fun
I have CorePlayer 1.3.2 and i played recently a movie DVD-Rip of 1.45 Gb straight copy and paste from my computer on Xperia. Had no problems, i watched the whole movi without lags, frameskips or sound not synchronized with video...

That I simply cannot believe. Post benchmark results, and movie info (resolution, bitrate).

Me neither. 80% is what I usually get as speed with 1.3.2. Btw this DVD-Rip may be some small resolution, like 640x272.
I just don't get it, such a good phone with such a lousy movie playing capabilities.
OK... here's the facts.
It's all about perception. Some individuals can watch a movie that displays at 24fps (frames per second, which is the standard) and see a perfectly smooth movie. The brains fills in the gaps between each image and creates the illusion of full motion.
Some lucky individuals can look at a movie playing at 20fps and still see a smooth movie while most of us will perceive it as jerky.
Some unlucky individuals (myself included) find anything less than 30 fps to be jerky.
And finally. Coreplayer + xvid files do not use the acceleration feature of the chipset hence the standard *cough* downloaded tv show will usually be and 624 x 352 with a 912Kbps bit rate (These are average stats)
Will run at about 80%-85% framerate on your X1 giving you a fps of about 20fps.
If you reenconde using the sticky programme GUI you can play the same file at 100% USING ONLY WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER/MEDIAL PANEL!!! (coreplayer will still run it at 85% ish)
Yes .. I just want those people who can watch movies at 80% to realize how lucky they are
Well, there has been so many threads on this subject...
I don't see where the problem is to use Windows Media Player to watch a movie, it's just perfect. Files that cannot be opened by WMP (like flv for example) can be opened with CorePlayer, that's nice.
I don't want to hurt anybody, but maybe people whose mind totally deny this very simple concept should may be go to see a psy We have the right tools, they work perfectly, so why do you want to re-invent the wheel ?
Well most people want to watch AVI movies .. and those are not watchable in WMP and jerky in CorePlayer. If you don't want to watch them, good for you.

Video playback constant lag

Hi,
100% noob but have a really annoying problem!
Everytime I playback a video it lags constantly. On youtube or even a video I have loaded on through my sd card.
Does anyone have the same problem or know a solution?
Thanks a heap!!!
had the exact same problem - spent so long trying those tweaks and different codecs and so on... nothing got it smooth and still have decent quality - my solution was to get an iPod Touch... but this thread may help you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459676
Sigh... It has been discussed many times. Use the converter on the first page (the last "sticky" thread) to covert your files to mp4 format. After that watch them with WMP.
For other files use CorePlayer, but it will lag, because it doesn't have hardware acceleration..
Use CorePlayer for YouTube. It is perfect.
In coreplayer you can use Qtv and set the quality to medium. Even on WM6.5 ROMs with manila 2.5 running, video playback is smooth. I watch full size divx files from my SD card without problems.
The coreplayer menus are a nightmare, though. You have to go to tools, preferences, select page, video. Then choose Qtv and medium.
