According to Endgadget Mobile, Microsoft has the following hardware specs for Windows Mobile 6.5:
Microsoft's issued a clarification regarding upgrades from 6.1 to 6.5: devices that are already out in the marketplace with a minimum of 128MB of RAM and a 400MHz processor or better are theoretically capable of being upgraded

That means that the Hima will be officially supported.

Doesn't mean it'll be officially supported by an official ROM however (i would be very surprised if it received an upgrade). Slow devices can run WM6.5 too like the Wizard.
Of course not. But it will mean that the hardware itself is capable of running the OS at an acceptable speed. (Which the betas available now does not... )

I am not sure, but I think, I do remember having heard something about five running WM6.5 ROM, in at least three or four different languages.
As I am an old man (compared with guys like ather90), so it might be age stubbornness to keep my old 6.1Ger ROM, but I do remember, that on my second device 6.5Ger was running fine, fast and stable, as I turned it on the last time. Sorry, for my dementia is bad, but I do not remember if it was yesterday or two seconds ago.
No joke, I thought the released WM6.5 are no beta, indeed they are first class, although I don´t really need them. Some features are nice, OK, but not as important enough to switch system.

hi i tryed wm 6.5 on my device, himalaya.
Issues:
Slow
Graphic glitches
**** amount of storage (i had 0.04mb of storage after installing one program!)
What works:
The start menu is lovely
today screen is nice
i had a program like the cover flow on an ipod but for pictures it was great!
i rate it -1/5
it needs a lot of work to be any good for the himalaya

I rate you 0/100.
I suspect he hasn't joined his ExtROM with his storage area, thereby giving him almost 30mb in total.
Maybe he can check out the link when he gets the chance.
You did not mention what version ROM you installed. I have sundream's ROM and I can honestly say that it rocks. No problem whatsover that you mentioned. Scrolling is very fast and most bugs in WM5.x and WM6.1 were fixed.
I give it a 5/5 two thumbs waaaay up!

The official start of Windows Mobile 6.5 is 05/11/09 !!!
Congratulations to all those heroes, who made the Hima more than up to date.
Although I will keep my self made 6.1 ROM, I think, you all are better than the Microsoft guys. They even don't release it with the Honeycomb design you all use!
Windows Mobile will be called Windows Phone OS:

Hey all
What do you reckon the chances are that when the next Win Mobile version 6.5 comes out, we'll be able to put it on the HD? The early previews look like it could really fix a lot of the current WinMo issues...but will there be an update for the HD?

That's what I was hoping to hear, thank you! Really hope Microsoft finally listens to the critics and does something impressive with v6.5 and eventually 7.

For the real support 800x400 we have to wait for WM7.x
Hi SatScan. Can you elaborate please? Are you saying that in fact it won't be easy to update the HD to WM6.5, but we'll need to wait until WM7? Do you think WM7 is likely to be much more resource intensive, such that the memory and CPU of the HD wont be adequate?

Windows Mobile 6.1 supports WVGA already, so why 6.5 should not support it?
Yesterday I've tried the beta WM6.5 build that is floating on the web. I hope that what I've seen is all due to the beta state of the build.
Many many things don't work. For example, g-sensor doesn't work, camera doesn't work, all "not hardware buttons"(phone button, home button...), work like softkey...
But I've to say that yesterday was only a try, I've done all in a speedy way. I'll try other things in these days. I hope these things can be fixed.

It's only a few builds up from the latest Blackstone ROM, so it is not even close to a beta or even the final thing.
and its loaded with original 6.1 stuff....
But it obviously can be used for cooking
Good news. We can have a 6.5. looking ROM before Microsoft ships it.

That's a worderfull news!
Windows 7, Windows mobile 7 and office 14 are all very likely to be released at the same time, late 2009 / v.v.v.early 2010 latest January.
Yes, but as I've said for now all it's really buggy. The principal problem is that autorun doesn't work with this build, then many things releted to it don't work.
In addition, I've tried to use some of the cabs to make working the new WM6.5 today but for now it doesn't work, when I install them I do a soft reset then the device freeze before opening the today, same thing if I cook they directly into the rom. I've tried in different ways but for now nothing to do.
But I'll see what I can do in the next days.
Microsoft has has finally finished work on Windows Mobile 6.5, so we should hopefully start seeing bug free roms in the next few weeks.
A tweet from the Windows Mobile Development Team says it all, "For the record, Windows Mobile 6.5 is DONE... complete... looks really good IOHO and every bit functional."
It's a very good news , so now wait and see !
Hmm shouldn't we already have a version somewhere. What I mean is isn't someone already testing it?
Any ideas what is different or is it just final bug fixes etc?

Normally, such a great thing isn't just released, but there are RC (release candidates) beforehand. I don't know whether the WM6.5 roms here are already based on these release candidates, or if they are based on some real beta roms, but I guess there won't be any major differences.
What they actually meant to say was "For the record, Windows Mobile 6.5 is DONE... complete... looks really good IOHO and every bit functional except we can't get the damned alarm to work."

The alarm works in Miri V12, but you have to set the alarmtone in settings>sound&...>reminders instead of setting the alarmtone under clock.

what they meant to say was:
For the record, Windows Mobile 6.5 is DONE (although we will update the build every 12 hours)... complete (apart from the missing bits)... looks really good (but Manila/spb/pointUI look better) IOHO and every bit functional (providing you don't wont everything to work) however the ONE thing we did do was fix the alarm (we think??).
at least its no a Google product it would be in permenant BETA if it was!!

You are correct. He plans to take a rest now, possibly a week or 2 and then start working on WM6.5 rom. He has told me this before and released a rom within a week so I would keep an eye out as you never know with Throy. Complete workaholic!!
Hang on we're talking about a ported Core and build to a device that is obviously never intended to run it
I dont think there's such a thing as a "bug free" ROM! what bugs are we talking about?
The bare WM6.5 seems pretty damn good in terms or stability and bugs (bar the damn alarm issue) seems to me the main issues are when HTC Manila, dialer, album etc etc from other device are cooked in that the real problems occur and since they will never be compatible with HD how much more "bug free" will it get than now?
Is there any WM6.1 ROM that is "bug free"?
Hi there,
Title says everything.
I know that the HD2 Leo has a bigger processor then our HD, but with (lots of) tweaks on Manila 2.5, will it ever be possible that it runs smooth?
I mean, scrolling in photo's and music in landscape modus in manila is too laggy to use now..
I'm not a ROM cooker, so excuse me if this is a silly question.
I don't believe it can ever come close to running as well on the Leo but I've tried a bunch of them and Flashmore runs pretty dang well on it imho. I've played with the Leo and if the speed of it is a 10 on there Flashmore runs at 7 on ours.
Eventually i think it will. imo the last few versions that leaked have improved on speed and stability. Especially browsing pictures in landscape feels quicker by the build so lets hope it will keep improving. Also some focussing on tweaking the drivers of the blackstone could help us keep up with things

Ok, really good to hear! Hope it will then
Else I would almost consider to buy a HD2
I think i've tried all the versions at some point in different ROMS and I have to say it IS getting faster imo.
I think there will alwasy be a gap between how it performs on a LEO to our Blackstone, mainly due to the amount of opitimisation HTC can apply over what the guys here can. Things like graphics drivers and API's.
It is more than usable in the most recent versions and hopefully it will become better and better.
To be honest I think alot of people are going off WM anyway and starting to look at Android as a quicker and smotther OS. At least until WM7 is released...sometime....ahhh...in ummmm let me think....nope 2010 sometime!

Hmm, maybe android works a lot faster, but I just really like Touchflow, if the animations in landscape music and pictures (and everything else in manila) works flawless, I think I stick to WM and Manila.
Cause in android, you wont have nice animations.. or do you?
the latest builds are getting better and better. all we need is good drivers and little overcloking of the cpu. at 600 Mhz it will be enough to run manilla 2.5 without problems. must say that i tried HD2 and you really need big hands to handle it. our beloved HD has the perfect mensurations.

I hope for the same outcome, but we have to remember that the Leo ROMs were designed for use on the HD2 hence the reason for why they run so smoothly on that device, which has a bigger processor, more RAM, etc.
If I could afford it, the only reason for why I would want to upgrade to the HD2 would be for a potential Windows 7 ROM release - something which is unlikely to happen on the HD in my opinion.
Regards.

I think the moment Windows 7 will be out for the HD2 (probably at the end of 2010) there will be much better devices on the market than the HD2, so no use if you buy one now
It can't become as smooth as 2.1. It might be improved, yes, 2.5 was very poor on blackstone at first versions, now it's just poor (talking about speed). I think it's windows 6.5's problem rather than manila. For example there is big difference between two topix roms, wm6.5 and wm6.1 (both are manila 2.1).

Umm yes Android has the lovely animations and they work super smooth on the Hero. the screen transitions from basic settings screen are even nice.
Windows mobile just has that horrible lag when swithcing between any app or screen. The kind of thing the Iphone and android doesn't have.
It may only be a small lag (half a second) but it makes WM look old and slow.
Also you have to remember that the hardware is required by Andorid to have OpenGL ES 2 support, which mean properly implimented drivers. 6.5 doesn;t.
I read alsi that it looks like windows 7 will only support the snapdragon CPU (although I can't see that actually being the case)

Dude you are running 1,5 OS on your device (wm + manila)...so no wonder why it's lame...just give a try to BlackDragonROM...it's as smooth as manila 2.5 can be...do not know if you will like it...but it's smooth. I also prefer android...had a new motorolla last week in my hands...it was smooth as hell...but the downside was...no apps...just a few google apps. They are all online apps...and I am living new france boarder...so online apps can be really expensive in those regions.

i think these are more likely to go in low power laptops/netbooks than a mobile device. 1ghz is more than adequate at this point in time and this is before alot of the stuff is even optimised for a processor of this speed.
about ROMs though, i have to agree with the guy on the first page. the flashmore ROM is seriously a smooth manilla 2.5 wm6.5 rom. it impressed me to the point that ive even left topix 2.8 (arguably the fastest blackstone ROM ever) for it. landscape photo and and music tabs wont ever be smooth as the drivers for the blackstone are such that there is a huge fps drop going from portrait to landscape (think what happens in opera) so even if the blackstone had the power, it is let down by drivers and theres nothing we can do about that.
but yea, an interesting question raised by the OP and im glad i took the time to look around the new manilla 2.5 roms.

No official 6.5 ROM on T8282.
Mean no disrespect, newer doesn't always mean better. Especially when the hand-held device used on daily, real time based events.
It really sucks when you are checking up your schedule, the mobile phone went froze, with someone waiting your answers.
IMHO, stability, quick response are much more important than newer version. MS please give us one...8(

Well that's definitely TRUE! But you know that is why normally you should wait for other people to comment before installing them. You will find out whether they are seriously bug or rock stable. I dont know which ones you are using? but I have been using the latest Energy 23554 with GTX theme, and never had a single problem (crash or restart). In fact the GTX version look awesome! You need to remember most of the ROMs here are built from Non-official ROM or betas...so dont expect to be perfect!

Actually most of the Blackstone owners have been hoping for a free upgrade, including myself. Unfortunately I think HTC dont like that idea, maybe because it will affect the sales of their newer HTC Leo. But anyway...i dont really care now...since we have this great forum anyway...
okay i'll give energy 23557 a try and see how it goes
Really no point on upgrading. HTC is bussy creating other phones (mainly Android since WM is dead).
Can someone provide a single thing that we gain with WM 6.5?
I mean the OS itself, not a ROM based on WM 6.5 that comes with updated manilla, Opera, Office etc,. You can install any app on AM 6.1 too.
WM 6.1 uses less RAM, leaving more for the apps (on 6.5 I start with 50% used and after a while even after closing all apps, 65% used). And the start menu has a MRU app list that makes very fast to switch from one app (open or not) to another. I still have to see how WM 6.5 is better in any aspect.
Hey all!
I just got a new kaiser, currently am using a clean 6.5 rom.
I've been searching the internet for the past few days because my phone runs programs slowly, the scrolling is laggy (compared to my asus p535 witch is 3 years old). I found out that it has some drivers missing for it to run smoothly, but all the info i found is like two years old like 2008 may or so... I found that 3d drivers are available but the 2d are not yet fixed. Since this information is 2 years old i thought maybe someone can update me slightly? are the drivers fixed now? or will i never have the opportunity to enjoy my new device as a powerfull pocket pc?
Thanks in advance.

There is a reason there is no updates to be found.
what do you mean?
lol
I mean that there isn't any sort of post about it because there is nothing to post about. I quoted the answer from your post that applies to what you want to know.
The new roms have the lastest and greatest of things mixed in. The phone is going to run slow foreeeeevvvvvveerrrrrrr.....
i cant believe it, i just got a new phone and wow, it sucks...
The phone is 3 years old, not new by any standard.

No award982, your phone does not sucks!
First the reason for your mobile programs run slowly does not mean that you are needing to change the drivers!
I have a Kaiser and it works very fast! In my experiences with several different versions of ROM, Windows Mobile 6.5 always ran slower than the 6.1!
I do not recommend trying to install any drive other than that already comes in its ROM. You have to find a ROM that works perfectly as you want!
I can recommend you 2 ROM for Kaiser: ( this is what I liked )
WinMo 6.1 (I use this)

WinMo 6.5 (the best 6.5 we've tested)

And remember to use HardSPL and Radio recommended by the chef!
thanks, i feel better now
I am also thinking, maybe android fixes the problem?
And mine doesn't run that slow, its just the bug with the touchscreen is that i cant stand...

You can find a lot of stuff that can help with touchscreen sensitivity and smoother scrolling, just search for it. Try Advanced configuration tool and KaiserTweaks, they got lots of useful tweaks. Dont give up, Kaiser is a great phone, when you set it by your taste, you~ll see!
