Help for updating ROM on HTC HD - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

Hi,
I have my mobile updated with Dutty's ROM version Ruu_Signed_Dutty's_HD_V2.1_XTREME_5.2.21018.1.6.0_Test4 from HTC original shipped ROM without issues. I decided to try the Miri_WM65_21198_V5.2_Premium ROM using BlackstoneRUUWrapper.exe. Every time I try it struck on 0% on mobile phone screen and on computer screen. I tried Ruu_Signed_Dutty's_HD_V2.1_XTREME_5.2.21018.1.6.0_Test4 and it also strucked at 0%. After waiting for many minutes BlackstoneRUUWrapper.exe gives Error 262 and ask to follow reccovery. Any idea guys what could be the issue. Due to this I am not able to update any ROM on my mobile now.
Is there any other software for ROM update instead of BlackstoneRUUWrapper.exe that I can try?

Have you installed HardSPL, or have you used USPL for flashing your first rom?
You can try to flash it withouth using your PC at all. Format your sd card, rename the image to "BLACIMG.nbh" drop it on the card.
Power off your device, and hold the volume down button, while powering it on again.

Maybe you used USPL to flash it the first time?
If you did you have to use USPL again to flash a new rom or install HSPL to avoid this problems again.

I used the BlackstoneRUUWrapper.exe that is I think HardSPL and flashed my first ROM using PC (Windows XP). I didnt install any thing on mobile before hand... right now I am trying to do second ROM flash and where I am failing. I suppose although my first flash ROM is running fine but I did some thing or missed some thing that is stopping me flashing second time... ? any further help if I can still flash using PC?

Guys Sorry i am ignorent about HardSPL and USPL but I used the BlackstoneRUUWrapper.exe that shows version 3.27.4.3 for first ROM (Dutty's)flashing.

Use HardSPL
I think you are not using the hardSPL. Go to Dutty's latest ROM page and install the hardSPL like is explained on his page.
After this worked, you can follow the instruction like mentioned above...
Here is link of page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=498326
Rename the rom file to BLACIMG.nbh and put it on your SD card. Make sure you have enough battery power, don't connect to pc, and push power button while holding volume down. Follow instructions...

Thanks Dutchprop , after updating to HardSPL every thing worked fine. Thanks again for your help ...

If you didn't install nothing on your phone you're missing HSPL, install it and try again.

Killed HD while flashing?

Hi there,
I had an original german Touch HD and updated it to 1.56 StockROM. So good so far ... then wanted to flash another ROM and flashed 1.56 Olinex HardSPL Wrapper. Worked as well. As it was not possible to flash the ROM I wanted (no USB connection with the bootloader) I wanted to go back and flashed the StockSPL. Unfortunately, this was the 1.14 Stock HardSPL and the flash worked as expexted
Now the HD boots with wrong colors and does not react to screen touches anymore. After a certain time a window comes up with a gwes.exe error message which should be sent to Microsoft.
I tried to Hardreset, but it does not work anymore with the hardwarekeys.
Active Sync does not connect anymore, so I can't access the device as I should to do something ... The system seems to run normally, but no interaction possible ...
Has anyone an idea what I could try? Is there a way to flash from SD card as on the touch diamond? Any autostart application on the SDcard, which causes a hardreset?
I look forward to your suggestions ...

Take out the battery for 1-2 min. Then replace batt and hold down the volume down key and press the power on briefly while holding the volume down key. If you see a tri color screen you are ok. You can place a ROM on the SD card and flash from there doing the same above proceedure.

take off the sd-card, than it should work

I feel better, the tricolor screen appears.
No I tried to flash 1.54 hardSPL and 1.56 official german Stock ROM. Both timers I get the message 'no image file!'
The RUU_signed.nbh is in the root of the 16GB SDcard.
Do I need to flash 1.14 Stock ROM, as I have 1.14 StockSPL installed?
Rename the RUU_signed.nbh to blacimg.nbh.
Always when flashing from SD-CARD you must rename the rom file
to blacimg.nbh
I hope it helps.
Thank you for your help, guys, it is up and running again
Good for you!

Help about flashing roms

Hi! I have a question about roms. I want to flash my rom with let"s say shadowmans win 6.5, but i dont know how, because everyone is talking about hardspl and branded phones. I have i stock rom now (6.1) and i have hardspl preinstalled, does that mean that i can flash any rom i want or what? What is the quickest way to flash and what can u do if flashing fails? I need a quick giude for dummies. Thanks for all your help!
the easiest way to flash is with custom RUU it is explaind in hspl Wiki- as you will use this to flash hspl
download newest hspl 1.83 olinex and flash it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520312
download ROM
connect you topaz to pc in active syns mode
open CustomRUU it us usually included with downloaded ROM
follow the instructions
then you can flash the radio again use the wiki
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Topaz_Radio_ROM
hope this can get you started
If you definitely have hspl 1.83 olinex installed (you can check from the 3 colour bootloader screen - completely switch off your topaz and switch on again whilst holding volume down key), then you can flash any ROM using just your microsd card instead of connecting to your PC.
Download the ROM of your choice and extract the .nbh file from the archive or folder. It will be the biggest file in the archive. Rename this to TOPAIMG.nbh and put it in the root (top level) of your microSD card.
Make sure your battery is near to full, then turn off and restart your Topaz in bootloader mode as described above. It will detect the ROM and ask you to confirm upgrade. Simple as that. When it's complete and says "success" you can restart your phone using the reset button.
If ever it fails, you can simply do it again. Or, take out your microSD, put it in a card reader and put another TOPAIMG ROM file there, re-insert, and reflash.
Don't forget to delete the TOPAIMG file afterwards.
You can flash complete ROMs this way or just radio ROMs, it's the same process. I like this method because it's self-contained and doesn't rely on connection to your PC. Only make sure a) olinex 1.83 is installed already, and b) there's adequate battery left.
Don't forget to make a note of your stock ROM so that you can download it again in case you ever want to go back to it, or if you send your phone in for service.
problem
I did what you said but when I turn on the power with volume down press i can read, for a very short while, the word "no file image". What I have to do now? In the micro SD there is only the .nbh file and in the boot mode I can read that olinex 1.83 is installed.Help please.thanks a lot. Simon
I have checked that too, but i have hspl 1.33, does that mean i can flash any rom i want from my sd card or i must have 1.83 to do that?
Thanks for help

is your micro sd formatted with fat 32? must be formatted in order to flash a rom using a micro sd card first. you dont have to power down your device to flash from sd card either. just hold volume down and insert stylus in the soft reset hole. hold until bootloader screen comes up. after flashing a hard reset is recommended. thats when you power down the device. you have to wait till everything gets set up first though to get to where you can power down the device though. hold volume up and down button. while holding those buttons turn the power back on. then follow the instructions it says.

Is your ROM file named exactly TOPAIMG.nbh? Note the caps for the filename and lower case for the extension.
I was just reading another thread and apparently this is important for the bootloader to recognise it.
Please add one small comment to HSPL instructions
Few of us get "stuck" installing HSPL... Once you see a tricolor screen you are to follow RUU...but it says to be connected in activesync. yet if one looks on activesync you see your device is disconnected.
Please add "wait a minute" and just click OK on RUU. By then it is connected just doesn't show in activesync. Flash and all should be good.

I haven't burned a new ROM yet but have been getting the pieces together
I have an AT&T Pure which comes stock with WinMo 6.5 and also comes with
a Stock HSPL 1.83 (I believe 1.83 is required for all 6.5 and above?)
I think there is a potential area of confusion here for Pure users
(Especially since the other Topaz came with WinMo 6.1 and HSPL 1.33)
there is an OEM HSPL 1.83 and an Olinex modified 1.83 that will unlock
the phone.
Correct me if I'm wrong but
The one that is actually needed is the "modified"
1.83 OliNex (available here on XDA from Olinex as a sticky)
Can someone confirm this "subtle" difference???
I've gone to the tri-color Boot screen and the stock Pure only says
HSPL 1.83 (it does does not say OliNex)
my current understanding is that I will need to
burn the Olinex HSPL over my Stock OEM 1.83
before adding a new ROM??
One final question is after I reburn the new Olinex HSPL
Do I need to install the new ROM at that point?
Or could I use my phone? (with old stock Rom plus new HSPL)
Just want know if I'd be "off the air" at that point or not?
(So maybe I'll wait with R1+ over the latest Dutty Rom)
TIA
Hope this can at least promote some understanding

[TOOL] Task 29 (format internal Memory) without drivers, without mtty.

i thought of re doing doloop's modd for TP2
and here it is fully tested to be working
now we can mtty our X1 without having the need of MTTY and its drivers
INSTRUCTIONS:
- download and unzip
- run then ROMUpdateUtility.exe and wait for it to finish.....
- device will reboot but will neva go past the bootscreen coz there is no OS to boot
- take our batti and then flash a rom using mSD card or by taking device into bootloader and using customRUU to load ur favorite ROM
DOWNLOAD:
http://valkyrie.htc-files.com/downloads/roms/valkyrie/XPERIA/task29.zip
WHATS TASK29\MTTY
when u flash a rom, you are copying files onto the internal memory (like duh!) but if u repeatadly flash different roms, sometimes files from older version stays behind as when u flash a rom, you just copy and sometimes overwrite files without deleting the older ones. hence at times these older files may create bugs\instability. hardrest donot always fix it.so we use MTTY
read this post to know what made me such a firm fan of mtty.http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=6085
but the thing is, mtty is and can be hard to use for new users. ... for me,, i was having the worst time installin the drivers needed to run mtty on win7 x64. so u i made this tool for me and for all
CREDIT:
all credit goes to doloop for coming up with the idea

Hi,
I hex edited RomUpdateUtility.exe so it runs task 29 right after flashing ruu_signed.nbh
As every one understand this command format the rom,
Just unzip and run task29.exe . You may replace ruu_signed.nbh with the radio of your choice.
After the phone reset itself, your old rom will be gone, so it won't boot: binfs has been formated, your phone memory is clean.
You'll need to power up in bootloader mode (press vol down right after power key), then use the leocustomruu.exe provided with your favorite rom package, or flash it from memory card using standard procedure.

My TP2 stopped working ((((((
I was using it with some cooked ROM (i think it's not relevant what exactly). This morning i had my breakfast and i've got an SMS from an acquaintance. After this i couldn't see my home screen anymore, but i could still use start menu and so on. I wasn't first time as this error happened, so i didn't thought anything and just made a reboot. After this i saw bootloader screen and it was message about missing ROM shortly to see. Nohting else, only bootscreen, hard reset didn't work either. So i came home, connected my phone via USB to my notebook, powered it on and started to flash ROM. As flash was successfully complete, the phone rebooted and i saw... bootloader again!
So i don't know what to do now, anybody some thoughts?

If you have a GSM TP2 try running Task 29 before flashing the ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649191 After Task 29 then reflash your ROM of choice and then hard reset to make suer everything took.

How are you hard resetting your phone? All I do is power it off then hold the send and end keys and press and hold the power button until a message pops up asking if you want to hard reset. Press the vol up key to reset and after it completes press the vol up key to reboot.
Just a random thought here--is it possible your volume down button is stuck?

It sounds like your bootloader is somehow broken, if it isn't a problem with the volume down key.
Try searching for information about the "mtty" utility. It's kinda complicated, but I think it's helped people in a similar situation.

Now I am encountering bigger problems with my device. I tried to use MTTY ver 1.42 first. I couldnt use it because there wasn't an option to choose USB-port. Yes, i unchecked "Connect via USB" in WMDC and killed it then in task manager. Then i flashed stock SPL ver 0.79, hm nothing new. Then I tried to flash the original SPL, i.e. ver 0.84 and it got stuck by 0%. I waited and waited and waited, so i had to remove cable and the battery. After that nothing worked. No flashing worked at all, even Task 29 gets stuck by 0% every time........ I dont know what to do now.....

Have you tried flashing a ROM using the storage card method? Might be some error being caused but your computer.
The following was taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the Rhodium Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to RHODIMG.nbh
4. Copy the RHODIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
You might also want to try flashing from another computer.

well it seems that you have flashed back to stock spl since it is showing you spl version (0.79)
which means you will have to hardspl it again in order to flash any custom roms again but it is probably unlikely that it will not work because when you reflash stock spl you are suppose to flash stock rom & radio first before flashing stock spl i'm just guessing i'm not to sure on this 1 i could be wrong though
P.S. - just a suggestion since you have stock spl back on the phone try & flash a stock rom to see if that works

Is that maybe the problem ? Did you flash the stock SPL back onto it as you referred to earlier ? Because 0.79 is a stock SPL version, so it won't boot a custom ROM with that SPL.
So is the whole problem that you have a custom ROM and stock SPL ? I hope it's that simple, but fear it isn't.
I hope!
Hello,
if you have 0.79 hard spl,
1. you should install stock rom, not cooked. After go to bootloader mode.
2. Run Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4363807&postcount=1
3. Install cooked rom!
It is working!
I hope it will help your problem!

Yeah guys, here's what i did and what i see. Before i flashed stock SPL 0.79 i flashed stock ROM and stock radio. Then i tried to flash stock SPL 0.84 and it didn't work for some reason. OK, then I read an advice from Doo Doo and tried to flash stock ROM again. I was wondering that it worked... but as it got 100% the device entered bootloader mode again! But after this the version of SPL was 0.88
I cannot use storage card method because i don't have any possibility to get access to the card from my PC And I just tried to hard SPL my phone from another PC (winxp) so it didn't work either, stuck by 0%.
Try to older stock rom. Maybe it will install older spl...
Sorry, but I couldn't help this problem! :S

I would not give up yet. You say you have tried installing another rom to no avail? Is hard spl installed on your phone? What kind of rom do you use (WM 6.1, WM 6.5)?
looks like your rom is messed up and can't boot anymore.
error 262 means you haven't got hard-spl (needed for task29 as well).
try flashing a new rom, either usb-method or sd-card method should work.
a) flash a stock-rom, doesn't need hard-spl
b) flash a custom-rom, but before that you first have to flash hard-spl!!!
how to do all that -> read the stickies.

task 29 is not working for my x1. error code [262]
wish me luck
Since you have original X1 SPL and ROM, I'm not sure, try stock ROM that is posted by PavelX1.
If it's customized, try other ROM, it's easy.

I think so too.....
Need help too!
On a bad day, after flashing a new ROM, my X1 was restarted in boot loader mode and never start OS any more though I tried restart, hard reset... hundred times
Has the ROM died? Please tell me what to do. Thanks.

Yeah it is happening to me too lately and according to Russell's experience, he tells me to charge the phone @ full battery 100% then flash a new ROM (try other ROM). Task29 can be performed before flashing and removed battery for few secs as williyung recommends it. Good luck!

Thank you for your help, but it doesn't work.
I did Task29, then original R3AA-010, then latest "2917 Energy ROM". All flashing by micro SD.
After flashing, I removed battery for a while before inserting it back, pressed power on and nothing but a 3-color screen of boot loader
Help me p...l...e...a...s...e!

try flashing just stockrom and do nothing else (maybe a hardreset after flashing). what happens then?

Followed your guides but nothing better. It still starts in bootloader mode automatically and cannot hard reset too.
it still doesn't find a system despite you flashed stockrom?!
well, then i'd say you have either a hw-failure or you're doing something wrong. i guess it's the second...
- after micro-sd-flash, are you waiting for the "ok" or do you remove your battery as soon as it eaches 100%? (=too early)
- what does it say on bootloader-screen, any error-messages?
flash stockrom with usb-method and see how it goes. you can also try downloading stockrom again, maybe the file is corrupted (unlikely, but...)
i'm saying stockrom because it should always work, no matter if you have hard-spl flashed or not.

Thank you for your advice.
I did ROM flashing by micro-SD and via USB many times before so I know how to do. But it's stuck into bootloader all the time I turn it on (it looks like you press & hold power+down volume button to enter bootloader mode) so I could not do flashing with USB method.
I also downloaded a fresh stockrom SonyEricsson_X1i_firmware_GENERIC_UK_R3AA010 but it still the same all the way.
I remember that it began to get stuck on bootloader few times ago and I simply did softreset until it worked normally. But now there's no way!
I already sent it to SE Service Center and they asked me to pay US$125 to change the whole mainboard!
never said you're a noob.
but yes, you can flash via usb if it's in bootloader. just connect it - pc recognizes it and you can run customruu.exe. (ignore any error-message from activesync/mobile center) i'm doing it this way all the time.
you can reflash stock-/hard-spl this way as well. maybe that would fix things.
i still think you've got a software-problem, something got messed up on your nand. for example, i had a "degenerating" file-system twice, where more and more files would get messed up in windows until the system wasn't bootable anymore (filesize 1.4 gb and such crap). after flash everything was fine and within a day - "dead". only stockrom cured that (task29 didn't). that's why i say concentrate on stockrom - it's your best chance before flashing a custom-rom again.
try everything before paying money for this old phone (replacing the mb surely would fix everything, but...). of course hw-failure is always an option, but rather unlikely in this manner.

Finally found the problem.
I powered up X1 with USB cable plug-in and it starts normally
I think the battery is going to die so its low voltage may caused that malfunction.
Thank you for your time.
