Phone doesn't want to boot. - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile ROM Development

My TP2 stopped working ((((((
I was using it with some cooked ROM (i think it's not relevant what exactly). This morning i had my breakfast and i've got an SMS from an acquaintance. After this i couldn't see my home screen anymore, but i could still use start menu and so on. I wasn't first time as this error happened, so i didn't thought anything and just made a reboot. After this i saw bootloader screen and it was message about missing ROM shortly to see. Nohting else, only bootscreen, hard reset didn't work either. So i came home, connected my phone via USB to my notebook, powered it on and started to flash ROM. As flash was successfully complete, the phone rebooted and i saw... bootloader again!
So i don't know what to do now, anybody some thoughts?

If you have a GSM TP2 try running Task 29 before flashing the ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649191 After Task 29 then reflash your ROM of choice and then hard reset to make suer everything took.
Good luck

Yes, i have a GSM TP2. As you advised, i downloaded Task 29, unzipped it and run ROMUpdateUtility.exe from its folder. After 100% phone booted again to the bootloader, I went to ROM's folder and run CustomRUU.exe from it to flash the new ROM. After "success" i disconnected the USB-cable and started the phone... no changes. I still see the bootloader. And i still cannot hard reset my phone for some reason.

How are you hard resetting your phone? All I do is power it off then hold the send and end keys and press and hold the power button until a message pops up asking if you want to hard reset. Press the vol up key to reset and after it completes press the vol up key to reboot.

Just a random thought here--is it possible your volume down button is stuck?

Yeah, I do the same. I hold the both outer keys and the power button but no message pops up, just the bootloader.

It might be possible, but if i press it, it feels like its OK. However, is there any method to test all the buttons of my phone?
Any other thoughts? Without phone i am totally f*cked up, cause i am not in my hometown right now and i have to keep contact with my business partners in there.

It sounds like your bootloader is somehow broken, if it isn't a problem with the volume down key.
Try searching for information about the "mtty" utility. It's kinda complicated, but I think it's helped people in a similar situation.

Thank's I'll inform myself about "mtty" keyword. But if u say that the bootloader could be broken, maybe i should try to reflash HardSPL or go back to stock SPL?

Now I am encountering bigger problems with my device. I tried to use MTTY ver 1.42 first. I couldnt use it because there wasn't an option to choose USB-port. Yes, i unchecked "Connect via USB" in WMDC and killed it then in task manager. Then i flashed stock SPL ver 0.79, hm nothing new. Then I tried to flash the original SPL, i.e. ver 0.84 and it got stuck by 0%. I waited and waited and waited, so i had to remove cable and the battery. After that nothing worked. No flashing worked at all, even Task 29 gets stuck by 0% every time........ I dont know what to do now.....

Can you get into the bootloader still ?

Yes i do. I still see the bootloader showing me current SPL version (0.79 )

So does it still always go into the bootloader ? It won't boot ? If so, have you tried mtty to try and fix that ?

As i said above, i could not connect to the phone through mtty, but fortunately i have another laptop here with winxp on it so it works on it. I typed "set 16 0" and "task 8" and it booted again into the bootloader just like before.

Have you tried flashing a ROM using the storage card method? Might be some error being caused but your computer.
The following was taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the Rhodium Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to RHODIMG.nbh
4. Copy the RHODIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
You might also want to try flashing from another computer.

well it seems that you have flashed back to stock spl since it is showing you spl version (0.79)
which means you will have to hardspl it again in order to flash any custom roms again but it is probably unlikely that it will not work because when you reflash stock spl you are suppose to flash stock rom & radio first before flashing stock spl i'm just guessing i'm not to sure on this 1 i could be wrong though
P.S. - just a suggestion since you have stock spl back on the phone try & flash a stock rom to see if that works

Is that maybe the problem ? Did you flash the stock SPL back onto it as you referred to earlier ? Because 0.79 is a stock SPL version, so it won't boot a custom ROM with that SPL.
So is the whole problem that you have a custom ROM and stock SPL ? I hope it's that simple, but fear it isn't.

I hope!
Hello,
if you have 0.79 hard spl,
1. you should install stock rom, not cooked. After go to bootloader mode.
2. Run Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4363807&postcount=1
3. Install cooked rom!
It is working!
I hope it will help your problem!

Yeah guys, here's what i did and what i see. Before i flashed stock SPL 0.79 i flashed stock ROM and stock radio. Then i tried to flash stock SPL 0.84 and it didn't work for some reason. OK, then I read an advice from Doo Doo and tried to flash stock ROM again. I was wondering that it worked... but as it got 100% the device entered bootloader mode again! But after this the version of SPL was 0.88
I cannot use storage card method because i don't have any possibility to get access to the card from my PC And I just tried to hard SPL my phone from another PC (winxp) so it didn't work either, stuck by 0%.

Try to older stock rom. Maybe it will install older spl...
Sorry, but I couldn't help this problem! :S

PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO STEPS 3. 3A,3B,3C...
1. Download which version of Touch IT you want. For the Last version made, here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340403
2. Backup any information you wouldn't want to lose. Either backup to memory card or PC; your choice
3. At this point, You need to install the official RUU for your device, if you're already running the official RUU, then you need to hard reset your device. (Press and hold both soft keys and press reset button, continue to hold softkeys til screen displays to hard reset. Press the call button to continue). If you need to install the official RUU, continue to step 3a4Here is a list of uploaded RUUs
3a. Enter bootloader on your phone (Hold camera button and press reset, continue holding camera until a screen with 3 gradient colors shows up
3b. Connect your computer via USB to your ppc (Pocket PC)
3c. Run the RUU .exe from your hard drive, follow its simple onscreen instructions and click check boxes necessary to continue with the installation. This should take a few minutes, and you will more then likely see your screen flash and change things, this is normal, let it work. After a few minutes it will boot up and go into "automatic customization of your device", I continued this (screen alignment, tips, auto setup), and waited for my device to be totally ready for me to use.
4. Connect your device via USB to the PC and wait for activesync. If it automatically pulls up a profile for your phones sync, delete that profile. If it asks again to setup device for syncing items, click cancel. You will still be able to explore your phone and install devices without setting up the sync profile for your phone.
5. Make sure your phone is connected as a guest, if it is not, make sure it is. The method I used to do this was this zip file I ran "guest only" registration entry. (Make sure and run allow partnership registration after completing installation), but it should display as guest after the hard reset.
6. Copy aserg policies.cab to your mobile device
7. Run aserg policies.cab from your device
8. Soft reset (use stylus for button on side of wing, or on bottom of herald)
9. Go into your comm manager on your phone, and disable "phone". Basically enter flight mode so nothing can be sent to your phone during this process.
10. Once booted, its time to give it a shot. Make sure you're still connected as guest, and run !Upgrade_rom.bat from Touch_it folder on your PC
11. This will bring up a command prompt waiting for you to hit a key to begin, press any key
12. During this time it is installing, NEVER touch your phone or play with it in any matter. It may look as though the command prompt has gotten hung up at times, but leave it run until it completes (or fails). your phone will pop up a message saying "unknown status" or the likes, but dont close that window, like I said just leave it alone.
13. If you have no error messages in the command dialogue box then you're ready to hard reset your phone. (press both softkeys, and press reset, continue holding softkeys til you see a dialogue asking if its okay to restore settings, hit the call button to finish it)
14. Your device SHOULD boot normally, go through setup, and you should be golden.
If at any time there is an error during install, but you still let it complete, you might have a chance at it working. Hard reset it after completion (even with errors) just to see if it works. If it wont go past your Tmobile or HTC picture screen on bootup, then you have bricked your device. To UNbrick it, run steps 3a through 3c and reinstall the RUU.
If you get any errors, try and try again. Its proven working on several devices.
thank you very much for your help, but i cant find the offical RUU?

You defenitifly flashed a rom from teh HARD-SPL RUU folder...
... or you left a SPL.nbh inside your RUU folder.....
All roms are found in my signiture "All roms"
And for better flashing... download latest TouchIT6.1.3 and replace the RUUsigned.nbh with a one you will flash.
Or flash the TouchIT 6.1.3
I know hardspl sorked for you.
If flashing isn´t working
PUT device in BOOTLOADER (cam + softreset) then it MUST work
Good luck

Don't dispair! I had the same problem and got out of the situation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377&p=3677341
You probably have the wrong Original Rom from HTC installed (may wrong language).
To solve the situation you will need USPL. USPL will install. If you are using Windows Vista you will probably have to update the drivers (See the thread).
Once USPL is running install the Original HTC 1.56-ROM.
but how can i can i installl uspl if every time i get into bootloader it turns off after 10 seconds and then turns back on...
nobody else can help??????
Try to take out the battery for one minute or two, then see what happens when switching on.
If ok (usual start) make usual normal bootloader state, and see what is your SPL. Then decide which flash you have to do.

Flash back your original ROM, you don't need USPL to do this.
For your original ROM look at this link:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone_Ship_exe
If you have problem flashing with you PC, you can try to flash from SD just extracting the files from the original ROM exe you downloaded on a temp folder (you can use winrar to do it), rename the "ruu_signed.nbh" to "BLACIMG.nbh", copy it to the root of your SD card, and flash the rom from the tri-color screen by pressing the power button.
Then, if everything is fine and your phone work again, you can think to flash a coocked ROM using USPL.
NOTE: you can read the wiki to learn something more, start here:

It mean your phone stay at bootloader? tri-color sreen with SPL you can see. It's ok. You should download USPL 2.5 and Rom ship 1.56.4xx. Fisrt you flash SPL by running blac_uspl , your SPL will be change to 1.15USPL, then you flash ship rom 1.56.4xxx, then everything will be ok. Give it a try
Note : It's more stable if you use Win XP.
from my experience with HTC Wizard and what you are describing it
sounds like
your battery is very close to dead
you need to find a way to recharge it
your phone is protecting it by shutting off
also i don't know how valid this is for the Blackstone
but the wizard would not charge in tri-color mode
(again for battery sake)
so make sure you have a nicely charged battery (buy a spare or a table charger)
and then try to flash something again
P.S. i don't know how one sentence cries for help peppered with EXCLAMATION points encourage anyone to help you

A clarification of the above post. When you have 3 colors (actually 4 with white color) and USB on the white band you have to start blac_uspl.exe. That will replace the original bootloader of your phone with cracked temporary bootloader named USPL. At this stage it shall no more give errors and you may flash it from the PC or from the memory card.
The suggestion for the battery also seems fair.

You have to copy the BLACIMG.nbh on the microSD using a USB card reader, not your phone. Then with the microSD on the phone, in the tri-color screen, it will automatically flash your ROM, if you don't have low battery of course.
If you want to use USPL to flash a coocked ROM (for your original official rom is not needed). Your phone have to stay at tri-color screen for more then 10s.
Perhaps your problem is a low battery as someone already suggested.
Do you have tried to remove battery and put it back, let the phone off and charge it with the wall charger?

Dont stress so much next time. When your stressed out you dont think with a clear head. Glad it worked out for you.
The changing of ROM only seems can not brick your phone. Only unsuccessful changing of SPL can. Until SPL is OK you may ever flash new ROM.

Killed HD while flashing?

Hi there,
I had an original german Touch HD and updated it to 1.56 StockROM. So good so far ... then wanted to flash another ROM and flashed 1.56 Olinex HardSPL Wrapper. Worked as well. As it was not possible to flash the ROM I wanted (no USB connection with the bootloader) I wanted to go back and flashed the StockSPL. Unfortunately, this was the 1.14 Stock HardSPL and the flash worked as expexted
Now the HD boots with wrong colors and does not react to screen touches anymore. After a certain time a window comes up with a gwes.exe error message which should be sent to Microsoft.
I tried to Hardreset, but it does not work anymore with the hardwarekeys.
Active Sync does not connect anymore, so I can't access the device as I should to do something ... The system seems to run normally, but no interaction possible ...
Has anyone an idea what I could try? Is there a way to flash from SD card as on the touch diamond? Any autostart application on the SDcard, which causes a hardreset?
I look forward to your suggestions ...

I feel better, the tricolor screen appears.
No I tried to flash 1.54 hardSPL and 1.56 official german Stock ROM. Both timers I get the message 'no image file!'
The RUU_signed.nbh is in the root of the 16GB SDcard.
Do I need to flash 1.14 Stock ROM, as I have 1.14 StockSPL installed?
Rename the RUU_signed.nbh to blacimg.nbh.
Always when flashing from SD-CARD you must rename the rom file
to blacimg.nbh
I hope it helps.

YOU AREN'T BEING ASKED TO HIT JUST THE POWER BUTTON
try to put your phone in bootloader. Press and hold camera button and power button, while pressing soft reset with stylus. Once in bootloader. Connect to pc and see if you can run the ruu in your stock rom.

keep trying to put it into bootloader. Try a hard reset and follow instructions to get it into bootloader. Sometimes it takes several tries.

THAT MEANS DO IT AGAIN !
Thanx
Thank you denco , for the info , and thanx chumley for beating some sence into me. So i got to the bootloader. Do i need to instal my original rom or can i just reinstall the one i got or maybe another one?
well I have the same problem.
It started with the edfc problem explained here
While trying to fix that problem, I switched my rom to the TPC elite rom series (windows 6.5).
All went fine till three days later, while text-messaging, the screen freezed. I removed the battery, restarted the device and found myself having the same symptoms discussed in this threat.
Putting my phone into bootloader doesn't work, and I think It has to do with the problem I had before; that apart from the directional buttons and the power button, all buttons are defunct.
Anyone any suggestions? (apart from: don't bother us, etc, etc...)
my phone randomly bricked too a while back....as far as I understand is that either you CAN put your phone in to bootloader or your phone is junked....correct me if im wrong ppl
.....make sure you hold the camera and power buttons then reset with stylus....
and make sure you install your stock rom...aka the att tilt rom
if you didn't do it already...
1. flash your original rom (SD card method - Step 5 Flashing Via MicroSD Card ) you need the rom to be at least from the same operator. it should run just fine, just as long as you follow the directions.
2. HardSPL,SIM CID unlock, etc. as described on the same forum i pointed to a little earlier. from this point on you should have a phone just like it was when new.
try to read more carefully (maybe a few times) and search before you start a new thread.
on the wiki and in the stickies in the rom development section you get a lot of "bricked" solutions. you just have to read them all and see what is your case...

do you mean hard reset (hold power + left + right button)?
i did, and on the screen shown test "this operation will delete all your bla..bla.."
but when resetting complete, it's still restart when booting and logo sonyericsson appears
is it hardware failure?
I would not give up yet. You say you have tried installing another rom to no avail? Is hard spl installed on your phone? What kind of rom do you use (WM 6.1, WM 6.5)?
looks like your rom is messed up and can't boot anymore.
error 262 means you haven't got hard-spl (needed for task29 as well).
try flashing a new rom, either usb-method or sd-card method should work.
a) flash a stock-rom, doesn't need hard-spl
b) flash a custom-rom, but before that you first have to flash hard-spl!!!
how to do all that -> read the stickies.

task 29 is not working for my x1. error code [262]
wish me luck
Since you have original X1 SPL and ROM, I'm not sure, try stock ROM that is posted by PavelX1.
If it's customized, try other ROM, it's easy.

Need help too!
On a bad day, after flashing a new ROM, my X1 was restarted in boot loader mode and never start OS any more though I tried restart, hard reset... hundred times
Has the ROM died? Please tell me what to do. Thanks.

Yeah it is happening to me too lately and according to Russell's experience, he tells me to charge the phone @ full battery 100% then flash a new ROM (try other ROM). Task29 can be performed before flashing and removed battery for few secs as williyung recommends it. Good luck!

Thank you for your help, but it doesn't work.
I did Task29, then original R3AA-010, then latest "2917 Energy ROM". All flashing by micro SD.
After flashing, I removed battery for a while before inserting it back, pressed power on and nothing but a 3-color screen of boot loader
Help me p...l...e...a...s...e!

Followed your guides but nothing better. It still starts in bootloader mode automatically and cannot hard reset too.
it still doesn't find a system despite you flashed stockrom?!
well, then i'd say you have either a hw-failure or you're doing something wrong. i guess it's the second...
- after micro-sd-flash, are you waiting for the "ok" or do you remove your battery as soon as it eaches 100%? (=too early)
- what does it say on bootloader-screen, any error-messages?
flash stockrom with usb-method and see how it goes. you can also try downloading stockrom again, maybe the file is corrupted (unlikely, but...)
i'm saying stockrom because it should always work, no matter if you have hard-spl flashed or not.

Thank you for your advice.
I did ROM flashing by micro-SD and via USB many times before so I know how to do. But it's stuck into bootloader all the time I turn it on (it looks like you press & hold power+down volume button to enter bootloader mode) so I could not do flashing with USB method.
I also downloaded a fresh stockrom SonyEricsson_X1i_firmware_GENERIC_UK_R3AA010 but it still the same all the way.
I remember that it began to get stuck on bootloader few times ago and I simply did softreset until it worked normally. But now there's no way!
I already sent it to SE Service Center and they asked me to pay US$125 to change the whole mainboard!
never said you're a noob.
but yes, you can flash via usb if it's in bootloader. just connect it - pc recognizes it and you can run customruu.exe. (ignore any error-message from activesync/mobile center) i'm doing it this way all the time.
you can reflash stock-/hard-spl this way as well. maybe that would fix things.
i still think you've got a software-problem, something got messed up on your nand. for example, i had a "degenerating" file-system twice, where more and more files would get messed up in windows until the system wasn't bootable anymore (filesize 1.4 gb and such crap). after flash everything was fine and within a day - "dead". only stockrom cured that (task29 didn't). that's why i say concentrate on stockrom - it's your best chance before flashing a custom-rom again.
try everything before paying money for this old phone (replacing the mb surely would fix everything, but...). of course hw-failure is always an option, but rather unlikely in this manner.

Finally found the problem.
I powered up X1 with USB cable plug-in and it starts normally
I think the battery is going to die so its low voltage may caused that malfunction.
Thank you for your time.
