Quite quick compared to the other HTC models, the Touch HD is now listed as end of Life and available till end of stock (which ran out) at our supplier.
Lets hope the HD2 and the other models I saw that look like it and have comparable specs come out soon.
1st of April was yesterday ;-)
I wish they were joking, I had 10 of them in order ...
"the HD2" w00t?
i think it's true
Don't you realize that this had also been the case with any other HTC devices? Look at kaiser. When it first came out, I was like "Dude, this is definitely the best PDA ever, it has everything!" I got a lil disappointed for not getting any "significant" updates from HTC (as far as OS and all the tidbits like drivers are concerned). BUT, thanks to this community with all the smart people cooking ROMs and developing applications, everything worked out nicely until I sold that kaiser. I personally think, HTC is obligated to say BIG thanks to xda-developers, because without dem, I would've returned my kaiser 3 days after I bought it and there was no way I would've bought blackstone.
PS: Even my lil' brother's using my Hima from 6 years ago, now running WM6.5! How cool is that?

Is there an economic model to declare it eol within 6 months of its release? Even with HD2, there is still a market for HD (not factoring in the crisis and remaining stock).
Doesn't make sense to me.
Deem -- after reading that htc doesnt offer good support to their devices I think that my next device Wont Be HTC!!!! Anyways I Would realy want something with Nvidia Tegra -- and HTC wont be one of them!!!!

Do you believe everything what you read? If so, you can read now that HTC offered "good support" to me. They fixed my Hermes 2 years ago within a very short period of time, no questions asked.
The touchHD 2 is the firestone. Google it

No I dont, but a lot of people do and that is confusing...
2 years ago aint the same as now, but WE WILL SEE if HTC will support Touch HD!!!!
I think it's ture....
since HTC started the pre-order of Diamond 2 in Taiwan...
(no price until the end of the month)
so.... that's reasonable enough to stop manufacture Touch HD ?
Its funny how some people are contemplating if its true ...
But anyway, I found that quite a few companies that sell only phones and their accessories have stocked the HD at the pre-"end of life" price change and are now selling it at 480€ excluding BTW/VAT/TAX
Considering how great the HD runs with Roms like the Dutty series I'd say that, if you visit XDA, you probably won't mind using custom roms and the HD is a great device to use, even if HTC had shipped it with an OS that had no features and crashed all the time.

I am in search of a new phone for Sprint. I have the Titan (Mogul) and want to upgrade. Not sure how long before the Diamond 2 will be available for Sprint. Any suggestions?
I checked with Sprints CSR's but they said they have not heard of it
wait for it
well in europe the diamond2 is launching april or may, as far as i have been told. but since you use sprint, i guess you are from USA right? and its said that USA would not get it until Q3 or Q4 of 2009. with that said i would wait no matter what, unless you really hate your titan. because diamond is good but diamond2 is for sure worth the wait
Well, Q3 or Q4, thats towards the end of the year. The titan is falling apart, i took it to get serviced and they charged $100, so i figured i might as well upgrade since i am due and i can get the Diamond for $199. Not sure what the Diamond2 is going to cost. Any word out?
If it comes out end of this year, i am sure I will be due for an upgrade by Q1 next year and by then they will have fixed all the ROM issues and bugs"? Ideas?
I would suggest not waiting for it as it might take forever or never to get to you particular cell phone provider. The Diamond thanks to this forum is great. As far as price is concern...based on speculation that the specs. are pretty much identical to the HTC HD, expect the price to be high....
So affordability might be an issue regarding this decision as well.
Thats exactly what i was thinking. not sure how long before Sprint actually starts to have them available on their network. Even if they have it end of this year for Christmas, it will take a few months for the price to be reduced and at that time i will be eligible for an upgrade to another phone by late Q1.
What is the best ROM to have on the diamond and what suggestions do you all recommend once i receive it? I am sure i have lots of read on this site to make the most of the Diamond, but any quick suggestions?
How is the texting on it, easy to use? i am used to the full keyboard from titan.
I will send you my thoughts / recommendations in your PM box....check there
thanks for your recommendation. i will place the order today for the Diamond. Any links you all want to recommend me to so that i can view it and learn more about the Diamond before it arrives?.
for me, the diamond2 getting bigger is a big reason why i didn't wait for it. and there's no guarantee that sprint will even carry the diamond2 anyway and as others have said it'll probably be q409 before they have it at all.

but the music audio quality of the Diamond is way worse than the Touch HD one right? I'm asking because I'm indecisive between the two for months now :/
Sprint being CDMA not GSM will likely take longer before carying it them people are estimating.. I would guess mid 2010 if ever & By then if they jump on the LTE train with the pther 3 carriers they may not be all that inclined to cary a high end device that they will have to replace so soon.. & if there not jumping on the LTE train then there going to be suffering BADLY network wise & You would be better off moving elsewhere..
I have had my Tilt for a little over a year now and I realy like it alot, but being a forward thinking person I understand that when my contract is up in 8 months or so I am going to want a new phone. I have been scouring fourums and manufacturer websites and have been unable to find anything that fills the Tilts shoes. One of my main concerns is that other phones all seem to be getting rid of the buttons on the front which I want to keep. does anyone have any suggestions for a replacement phone, already out or on the way?
wait and see what is coming out in 8 months.
There's not many phones worth the price or trouble to replace the Kaiser. I'd just wait and see what going to be new in the market. I heard HTC maybe making a phone with the Nvidia graphics chip, so that maybe worth the wait.
Otherwise, most new HTC phones are using a 128 Mhz faster CPU, with slightly more ram, storage, accelerometer, and higher resolution screen. Higher Megapixel camera too, if that matters to you. Some new phones don't even have a keyboard, so you'll have to use the touch screen.
If I were to buy a new Smart Phone, it'll probably be based on the Android OS. If WM6.5 doesn't get a massive overhaul, then Android is the way to go.
There are many android phones coming out that I would like to have.
Sony Ericsson Xperia 2!!! Cool Phone!
Nope here it is, the uber mega phone to crush all other phones.

Well, I can tell you my 2 years is up, and I am probably going to get the Touch Pro 2 (aka Tilt 2) from AT&T when it comes out.

Originally it was scheduled for Oct. 6th, but ROM bugs apparantly pushed that back to Oct. 18th. However, I'd bet you could get it a few days earlier if you asked the AT&T reps. I got my Tilt 3 days early, so I don't think getting the Pro2 would be terribly difficult to get ahead of schedule.
Personally I'm thinking of switching to a BlackBerry if another good HTC doesn't come out. I got the Tilt as a replacement to the 8125 and I couldn't be happier. I've had it for a long time now and it's extremely durable. I've dropped it numerous times and it's still in good condition. The 8125 broke after the 5th drop so I was vary happy about the replacement.
i just went to my ATT store and asked if they heard about a tilt 2 or touch pro 2 coming out in october. and the reps there said they havent heard of anything like that coming out in october... is there some news link that says something about this phone??

The Boy Genius Report posted this story, and if you google "Tilt 2", you'll find quite a few pictures and articles concerning it. When I asked my AT&T reps, they said they didn't know anything officially, but one who seemed to be senior over all the rest said that he wouldn't be surprised considering all the things online about it.
I lost my current phone if it matter?
I know how you feel.
It would be pretty awful to lay out the money or lock into a contract only to hear info about a new device next week...
Would also like to know if there a re any rumours although I would be surprised if anything was released this soon. Would be a bit unfair on current WP7 users.
it always depands on you... how much u need a phone, and what phone you are looking at...
those models which will be launched in CES should be leaked by now...
i am using HD7 since launch and i cant be more happy with the device... i came from TP2 and i was looking for a Keyboard device, but there were none, so i got the biggest screen and it took me some time to get used to the on screen keyboard but now i am flying...
why HD7 as HTC is THE COMPANY which only makes PDA... i will looking at dell venue pro as well, however it has so many issues and its not even sold in asia...

BTW, I had a few questions....apart from all the GOOD things...i wanted to know if I buy it in India, will I get everything working...like the HTC Hub, the (lovely) weather tab, the (beautiful) Zune Music PLayer with the Artist pics in the background...etc...any help is appreciated...
i'd wait last thing you want to do is by hd7 only for some super ameoled dual core super w7phone to be announced
CES is two days away. Wait.
Yes, wait. Then maybe in three months or some they will release new device that was presented there and when they do, new phones will be presented. And then you will wait forever to get new phone. It's stupid to wait. World won't wait for you...

This.
If you wait for CES you may aswell then wait a month for MWC
Then when something is finally released that was announced there, something else will be announced.
Then do you wait for that? Because if you do something else will be announced when that's released...
@ OP
why opened two thread for same discussion?????

You could wait, but just because a phone is announced at the CES doesn't mean you can get it next week..(you say you lost your phone op )
I believe a GalaxyS phone is coming on Tmobile soon (like the Samsung Focus on ATT). Super Amoled screen, hummingbird and thinner/lighter phone on a more realistic size (4" is better than anything bigger IMO)
If CES is in two days, well lets see if that phone is announced, ATT just dropped the Focus price to half (now $99) I am assuming to take out the fanfare associated with the other carriers bringing out their versions. ATT did screw the pooch by not advertizing the Focus at all.
GalaxyS has been available through TMO for some time now. It just goes by the name Vibrant.
ok guys,
actually, this is not really off-topic following the line "Anything not related to the phones."
my story is, that i started with my father's mda III (back than, that was something fancy for me, switching from a lg black chocolate - yes, windows mobile 6.1, flashing included). later, I bought a touch pro 2 (as the mda III was really kind of slow and had no physical keyboard) and now am running a desire z (nice phone btw).
my idea was to sell the tp2, after buying the DZ, however that didn't seem to be such a good idea. the device is about one year old, in good shape and the original price was about 500€ (something around $550?) in the beginning of last year. now, ebay will yield around 200€ (~$240).
looking at the economical situation (sorry to go into such "depth"), i noticed, that many people around me are not that much well provided from their jobs (sorry - don't know how to say the words properly), though @ebay i won't find "good" prices for the tp2 (imho, the tp2 is till a good phone, though a drop of more than half the price is a really big one within one year). contrarily, looking at the signatures, many members show there history of owning devices, which is not that short, actually. so I am wondering, where the money goes... where's the issue on that one - many people having lesser money, though not selling their devices and yet letting the selling values drop...
what do you think? am I wrong about this one...?
There like computers...they drop there value fast due to the speed of newer/better devices always coming out.

Hey all,
Never thought I would say this, but I am REALLY happy with with my HTC One, after being an iPhoner for the past 5 years. Sure it has some minor niggles, but I am really pleased with it. And I love the fact that I can easily tinker with it.
My only concern is will the HTC One support Android 5.0 when it comes out? I have read horror stories of HTC discontinuing support for some of their phones after less than 18 months!
(My first post since joining seven years ago! This brings new meaning to lurker
Thanks,

Congratulations to your decision to come to Android
Android 5.0 isn't even announced so why bothering about it yet?
18 months is pretty long to support a device xD HTC is producing many phones per year, we can't force them to support every phone until eternity Besides that it's not very economically for business.
You can root and flash your phone to have the newest versions when official support ended.

Most people here probably get a new phone every 6 months or so, so 18 months is plenty of time

I used my desire for 3 1/2 years and plan to use the One that long too But still (to OP): You can't ask for supporting a device for that long.

I'm a previous iPhone user and tbh Apple aren't much different. You get 2, maybe 3 years of support before you start getting no update support or you lose half of the new features anyway because they aren't compatible with older devices so it really isn't much different with HTC ... The worst IMO for support are Sony. I had an Xperia Ray and they promised at least 2 years support at the time I purchased it and it received 1 update and it's stuck on 4.0.3 I believe to this day.

I'm not well-known to iPhones but you won't get 2 or 3 years official support (= updates) at HTC or any other manufacturer
I remember the time with my HTC Desire (bought it unbranded), which was a flagship long time ago xD (2010). I bought it immediately when released with Eclair 2.1. It was updated to Froyo 2.2 and everybody was happy HTC promised an update to Gingerbread 2.3 but then cancelled this plan. Because of very annoyed customers they rolled out Gingerbread 2.3, but left out many features (as of less internal memory) and recommended the update only to developers (it was not accessible through software update function on the phone). The Desire was THE phone but only got this amount of support (I guess it was one year?) ... So we can't expect much more for HTC One

18-24 months seems about typical for HTC. It's worse if you're on a US carrier; they tend to abandon you after 18 months at best. I got a One XL on AT&T last May, and as far as I know, it's not getting 4.2 (mine is actually dead, but the update doesn't appear to be coming anyway).
Apple supports its phones longer, but its a bit deceptive since they don't give older phones all the features of the latest one. So you'll be on the newest version number but won't really have a complete update. With Android, you usually get everything, which is why older handset stop getting updated sooner.
You won't have to worry about software-related support if you learn how to root your phone. I had an iPhone for a few years myself before jumping to Android with the One, and I couldn't be happier. Fantastic phone.
Learning to root can seem daunting at first (actually, it IS daunting at first :cyclops: ), but it is so, so, so worth it. Not having to depend on the carriers or the factory for the latest updates is a great feeling.
First of all, if you are someone who enjoys tinkering with phones and gadgets(in other words a geek) you are going to have a blast now that you're on htc/android. The opportunities are endless. And one additional thing, you are in the right place(XDA) for doing that.
Second, I dunno about you but in my country android phones come cheaper than the latest iPhone in stores(even the flagships). So upgrading phones every year or so is a common not-too-expensive thing for android folks.
Welcome to the community and enjoy your One!

If android 5 is released September/October as rumours suggest then we may well see it from HTC for the 'One'
One thing I can guarantee though is that the guys here on XDA will certainly be building roms on 5
If you can think of something u want the one to do or b like chances it's been thought of these aren't iPhones android is run by people or devs for each Rom. Once u learn how to flash rims and kernels updates will b a thing of the past
Viper121,.elemental it's mental.
I've no plans to get another phone until next year at least, I'm extremely happy with my One like no other phone.
KLP - Key Lime Pie should be released this year so I'd highly imagine HTC will upgrade their flagship phone to it but I'll just have a custom ROM anyway way before any official HTC One is released so not applicable to me

Even if we aren't supported by HTC, that doesn't mean all the devs will have up and left us. Someone will port Android 5.0 and maybe even more. We will definitely get many aosp ports and a few newer sense versions. Don't worry about that.
