I have just flashed from Duttys 2.7 to 3.0 using the process where you switch on the phone holding down VolDwn key and flashing with the nbh file on the storage card. All went ok but once I hard reset it loads with what looks like a broken 16bit colour scheme.
I am a lil bit worried now... what have I done? Have I done something wrong? It was working before the flash.... not sure if any further info required so please let me know if you need more details from me. Will be sat watching thread to respond asap.
Thanks
Jody

USPL isn't permanent like HSPL so to flash any rom or radio you will always need to run USPL first. Thats your problem!!
You'll need to use USPL and flash SPL 1.54 again then reuse USPL again before flashing Duttys
Thanks for the super quick response am getting everything downloaded as we speak and will give it a go.
Cheers, hopefully my panic will be shortlived

Good luck mate, keep us informed on your progress so we can guide you should you get stuck, which hopefully you won't!!
Will do, will be a bit later though as phone keeps restarting so dont have long enough to drag files to storage card. Will await getting home where i have card reader
I suffered something similar...make sure you read the post about flashing to anything based on 1.56roms (it's a sticky at the top I think)....it helped me hugely, and the steps are crystal clear.
I have said it before and I'll say it again.... this site is a life saver. Followed step by steps from the guide to 1.56 installs (what I should have done in the first place) and all is working.... thank god.
Only problem I hit was for love nor money could I get uspl to see device on Vista 64bit, had to wait until I got back into work to run in it on an XP machine and all went through first time as it should

You probably needed to update drivers on vista for USPL to work

So, you've decided that your shiny new toy isn't very well setup by default. You flashed a ROM and lo and behold, you missed some instruction somewhere and now you think it's bricked.
Here's the good news:
It's not bricked!!
Bricked means that it's dead and it's in no way or shape recoverable.
There is still a chance. (As long as you didn't try to hardSPL with another Device's SPL...)
All you have to do is:
For the WING:
Hold the Camera button and WHILE holding it, soft reset the device (that means press the little hole above the memory card with the stylus.) That will bring you to the bootloader. Now download the appropiate RUU and run that program. A few minutes later and your new shiny toy is back to it's crappy OEM but working self!
I'll put in links for those who can't find them...
Here's tmobile's ROM.
WOW! That´s all??
Ok - then provide us a link to a XDA Terra RUU!!!!!!
hahahaha. Thanks for this help. Maby for some people it is usefull - but written 1000 times before.

I used the hardSPL from this thread..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358225
It worked successfully and I was able to restart into WM6. Then I tried loading the TouchIT 4.4 and it installed cleanly with no errors. But when I went to restart it, my Wing just sits there at the CanonYang boot screen and never changes.
I tried using the steps here to restore the tmo default rom, but it after 1% on the progress bar, the screen goes blank and the CanonYang screen comes back. Is there anything I can do?
edit: I can get to the bootloader screen with the color bars. I'm not sure if this additional info will be of any help.

SPL 4.70.yang!!! your device is HARD-SPL!!
So going back to stockrom--> delete the SPL.nbh from EVERY RUU you are running.
Then it shouldn´t stop......
Big Thanks papa! That did the trick. My Wing is happy once again and running Open Touch. But I still want to give TouchIt another try.
And what if i cant find stock RUU mine came with some arabic keyboard and spl was 1.08 , thanks to Oli he didnt mention that SPL should be 4 or higher , so device is bricked since first Olis release and no way to find this arabic stock RUU.
Any Help ?????
Hitec
If the device had an spl of 1.08 prior to HardSPLing it, then you'll have to bring the device to your nearest repair center. There isn't a way around that. Oli doesn't know everything and that's the risk we take when we try new and experimental things that people create but have no way of testing. But, we live and learn. If it wasn't for that issue, you could always cook your own ROM and if the HardSPL was working, you could've easily flashed any ROM. But the keyboard wouldn't been wrong until you could find someone who had the correct keyboard and you extracted the ROM from it and cooked that keyboard driver into your ROM.
Oh noooo!!
Hi ivanmmj,
I used your guide to flashing my HTC P4350 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358615.
It was in French and I wanted it in English. So I downloaded one of the official HTC ROMs "HTC_P4350_WWE_4.17.405.2_4.1.13.44_02.94.90_Ship.exe" assuming this was the English one because all the others couldn't have been.
I copied the "RUU_signed.nbh" from the above HTC ROM and put it into the RUU folder as instructed by yourguide (I didn't copy the SPL.nbh file). I then ran the herald-uspl.exe and everything went fine until the RUU utility stopped with the error "invalid vender ID".
The RUU exited without completing, now all I get when the device boots is the screen giving my IPL (1.08.001) and SPL (1.08.001). How do I flash another ROM from this state? I can't do it the "normal" way because ActiveSync can't see the device. When I try to use the RUU tool that comes with your tool, the progress bar shows then it says the tool can't be used with my device.
Someone please help!

Oh wow. I'm so sorry. I think I may have forgotten to put up a warning for people that have an SPL lower than 4.0. Was your SPL lower than 4.0? If it was, you cannot use the USPL OR the HardSPL and they end up writing part of the ROM over your current SPL and brick the device. This, unfortunately, needs to be fixed by your local repair center. I'll talk to the Mods about unlocking that thread so that I can update it.

ok, i am totally confused. i had flashed to three different roms since joining this forum. i tried to flash ttrans OTv5.0UL and nothing happens. bootloader comes up, screen goes white, generic pda menu opens and all seems fine. when phone starts back up, all of my original setting are there just like if i only did a soft reset. i tried again with a different rom and the same thing happens. i have tried 4 times and nothing. can someone please let me know what i am doing wrong
when did you buy your wing???
and are you using flashcenter ?? so it can temporary cid unlock the device?
i got my wing in feb or march 08. yes i do have flash center, and i have used it w/o problems before. i have flashed from touch it to open touch and one of aserg's roms too. i have been using OT 4 lite black for weeks now. i have been watching the threads about the new OT 5. so i downloaded it and nothing new is flashing.
does this help any?

iwas hoping not to bother any of the main guys with this little problem, but i'm glas your here (love your OT's btw ). ok, i am using the standard activesync method.
heres what i do:
1. download new rom and put it inside my RUU folder on my computer's C drive.
2. run the herald-uspl.exe.
3. follow the prompts
thats all i do and it used to work. i don't know if this helps, but it's the only other thing i have been doing diff. on another thread i asked if it was ok to delete old roms out of my RUU folder. i actually removed my OT v4 lite black and then put the OT v5 UL and ran the uspl. do you think thats what it is? maybe you have to have your old version in the RUU before you flash to a new version?
hope this helps
No. You don't have to have anything but your newest ROM in the RUU folder. When flashing, the phone doesn't know or care what you currently have flashed, unless that ROM is causing problems with your active sync. If that's the case, place your phone into bootloader mode, install the stock ROM (unless you have a HardSPL phone, and it sounds like you don't since you're using USPL.) Then boot up the ROM and run the USPL.
ok, so now know what to do, but why did this happen? whats wrong with the herald-uspl?
i just checked my device info and it says im running open touch v3! i thought that i was using v4. i have hard-spl downloaded, but i dont know if i need to use it or not. should it? then try to flash?
Unlock your phone with hars spl then run the exe from ruu folder. This method worked for me. I did not try the other way since my phone is unlocked but it should work aswell.

The HardSPL makes it so that if you flash a bad flash, you don't have to flash into the Stock RUU again just to get a working activesync connection to be able to flash again.
Courtesy of Ivanmmj
Step 1. Download Herald-USPL-Beta3. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A4N36HLO
Step 2. UnZIP the file into a folder on your Desktop. Let's call it "MyFirstROM" for simplicity's sake. Notice that there is a folder called RUU within this folder now. Keep that in mind.
Step 3. Download your NBH file and unZIP or unRAR it into that RUU folder. Make sure that that NBH file ends up in the RUU folder, not within a folder inside the RUU folder.
Step 4. Place your phone into flightmode.
Step 5. Go back to the MyFirstROM folder and then run USPL.exe
Step 6. Follow the directions on the screen. EXACTLY.
* Your screen on your cell phone will go white around the 75% part of the "second step" now.
* ActiveSync will LOOSE its connection.
Step 7. One step 3 on that black window, the RUU flasher will pop up. Just follow the steps.

Hey, I was scared for a LONG time to do it...I read so much info before I finally decided to do it! It took me like 2 weeks of reading before I decided. It's an EXTREMELY simple process. Plus, it makes flashing easier. I was getting weird errors trying the USPL method sometimes. Anyway, just do this.
FIRST, make sure your IPL number is atleast 4.000 or higher. You can check this by holding the camera button down, and then doing a soft reset. HOld the camera button down till you enter the bootloader menu. (It's like 3 gradient colors).
If it's higher, great, you are ready to proceed.
Next, download this file.
http://rapidshare.de/files/38148213/...l_WM6.rar.html
Unzip it, and it will contain 3 .cab files you need to install in a certain order.
1. Install canonyang.cab
2. Next, aserpolicy.cab
3. disablesecurity.cab.
Do a soft reset.
Put phone in flight mode!!!!
Now, go to the folder you just unzipped that file from. I think the default folder will be called hard-splwm6 or something like that. Go and run the RUU.exe file in it. Just follow the instructions. The screen of your phone will go white, but just wait, wait, and it will reboot itself.
Presto, you are hard spl, and can load whatever rom you wish!
This is for ne one that is looking for detail in making their Wing/Herald hard spl'd
Please do not get mad at me if it does not work.. But there are a ton of success stories with flashing Wing/Herald to Hard SPL..
#1:
Ok first check your ipl and spl.. You can do this by entering bootloader. bootloader (push the pin hole right under volume slide and hold camera button) you will then enter bootloader.. It looks like 3 color bars and say's ipl 4.xxxxx whatever and spl 4.xxxxx same.. Whatever the 4.xxx is thats what ipl and spl you are.. In order to become hard spl you must at least 4. and higher.. So if you see a 4 then your good..
#2:
Ok now that we have checked, soft reset your phone again and let it load.. This will get you out of bootloader and back to normal mode.. I was very careful on flashing.. So i always reverted back to oem rom.. So get the oem Wing rom or Herald rom.. If you can't find it let me know because i have it.. So just flash oem and let it be stock rom..
#3:
Ok now is getting ready to start from the very beginning.. Now if you have the 3 cabs (canonyang.cab, aserpolicy.cab, disablesecurity.cab) just install them in order as writen . After they were successfully installed soft rest your phone again..
#4:
Ok now we start the flash.. Its a scary few moments lol.. But very worth it.. Make sure you are synced and connected to your comp.. I also was extra careful by resetting my comp and making sure all windows were closed and made it so windows weren't open.. But i was extra careful Check the circle and make sure its green or if you have vista it'll be the pda icon lite up.. now open your hard spl folder (the rar. or folder that you dl'd for from the main page) and click on ROMUpdateUtility. Now just wait for it to finish the flash.
- If all goes well then it will come up something like Yang something something.. You will see a dif splash due to you dl'ing a new rom that makes your phone hard spl'd. Let it finish and your good.. Soft reset and enter bootloader and see if spl is 4.70 yang.. If so congrats your hard spl'd!!!!!! fo sho...
* Now to flash other roms all you have to do is get your oem rom and right click on it.. Extract it and you will see its contents.. Among its contents delete the spl.nbh file. Not the ruu.nbh.. Now you click romupdateutility.. I would make the extracted oem a special folder because this is now your new flashcenter.. Ne time you would like to flash a new rom all you have to do is simply replace the rom .nbh of your liking in this folder that you made and run romupdate.. All done.. Easy flashing.. lol.. Welcome to hard spl world!!! Now you can flash at ease.. Ne Herald/ Wing rom you have is now flashable except roms designed for micro sd cards (trasflash cards) Just use the .nbh files..
Please if you are are not ok with my instructions and wish special help(detailed help) with this put it on this thread. Others will learn from others concerns.. Even if the ? has been asked a million times still ask.. Please ask ?'s before flashing if something does not go with instructions..
Once again i'm not responsible for ne thing that happens to your wing/herald.. I am simply trying to help in-detail and be at assistance in ne way possible..
This is the dl from the orginal Hard SPL page. It contains everything thing you need.. (cab. files, .nbh for flahsing and romutility for flashing)

O no man i wasn't coming close to taking it like that.. It was a big reminder!! Thank you.. Like i said thou i didnt do them in order on my other wing and it worked without a prob.. But do as recommended now.. I put that they need to be in the order i have posted.. Thanks.. I hope your hard spl goes great!!!
fo_sho..
thanks these are great instruction.and i believe anybody should b able to hard spl afer reading these directions...but hey who knows
Thanks it worked perfect
Ditto here. Thank you very, very much. Good instructions!
One little thing: "aserpolicy.cab" is actually "ASerg Policies.CAB" and "disablesecurity.cab" is "Disable_Security.cab" in the OEM ROM you provided a link to.
I just got a used Wing off Ebay. My IPL is 4.10.0002 and my SPL is 4.10.0000 and when I try to HardSPL I get to where the progress bar is but then it says it can't communicate with my PDA/PHone and dies on me.
I installed the CAB files in the order stated then soft reset then ran the ROM UPdate Utility. ActiveSync is active but it says it can't communicate. Did I do something wrong?
Thanks for any help.
*** Edit*** Got this figured out. I needed to go to Settings->Connections->USB to PC and check the box for Advanced Communications then run the ROM Update Utility
Lance
I followed these instructions perfectly, I got the new "yang" splash, I checked the bootloader and it confirms the spl is 4.70 yang but when i soft reset to get out of the bootloader and try to start the phone up it says:
"Error-Device start up failed due to sudden loss of power. Please click Yes or No to continue."
But there wasnt a power loss, and it wont let me click yes or no. Anyone know what happened and what I should do?
EDIT: Never mind, I got it fixed.

Awesome. I was worried about doing this because everything seemed out of date and etc on here but I figured the hell with it, it's been months and so many hours this week and it worked. Thanks. I was a little worried about the spl because it looked like an older version and said wm6 and not 6.1. Well everything worked out great, thanks for this. After hours and days of reading every thing I could, this was the only that did not leave me with too many unanswered questions making me worried about doing this.
*UPDATE* So I I did another one today (or tried) and kept getting that 260 error and don't know why yet (I know; it is some place in the forums) and after having it do it about 5 times I checked (unlike you said to) and it never updated the spl etc I was in a hurry but I don't think the error was my fault. But now I have a question: What exactly are the 3 cab files for? At first I thought that was what did the hard spl but then after doing it and reading this again (I learn by doing not reading) I realizied it is not. And second question is: Why does it have to be flashed with that ROM to hard spl it?

It did allow me to click yes, I was just trying to touch the yes with my stylus but I had to click the left soft key. I dont know what caused the error but it seems to be working fine now and Ive successfully flashed 4 different roms.

Oh ok. I did 3 today and still did not see that (tg)
Hi!
Thanks for all the explanations.
My IPL is 4.18.0002 and SPL4.18.0000.
My phone is locked by a brazilian cell commpany TIM. Do I need to unlock my herald before to do a hard spl?
Thanks in advance
Gorbo
Hi Gordo, I am from Porto Alegre too and I hard-spled ok here.
You dont need to unlock before to do a hard spl.
Thanks.

I have done the same yesterday ... the thing was I've forgot the storage card in the phone. There was mess of previous installation (mostly WM5). Today I've made clear installation of the official WM6 with the card out of slot. It is working perfect now.
ive downloaded the file
and tried to run the program
my phone gets stuck at 0% and vista is saying i can remove the device at anytime
can someone help please?
Assuming you have done hard-spl, try the following method. Works all the time for me.

i had a quick glance at that and started to read the hard-spl. i dont think its for me. im totally thick and it looks bloody complicated
i *seem* to have it working i downloaded a hardspl file first which flashed no probs
now the proper rom seems to be uploading
It's not at all complicated. If you follow the steps really closely, hardly anything can go wrong. The only problem lies in Vista being a ***** with these things sometimes. With hardSPL installed, you should have no problem at all.
Btw, you can edit your post with the "edit" button. Better than doubleposting.
Hi,
Although this is my first post, I have been lurking for many years.
I have successfully flashed a Kaiser and a Diamond in the past so I feel reasonably confident.
However, I am having real problems with my blackstone. I have followed the instructions until point 5, when I enter bootloader it is showing 1.14000 etc - I then try to follow the rest of the instructions. It will go into the rom updater utility, the screen will go grey and show 0% but then nothing happens and I eventually have to go into recovery.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Caroline

Sounds like you haven't installed either HSPL or USPL before trying to flash rom.
I'd recommend going down the HSPL route. (Latest HSPL can be found in my signature). Once downloaded flash to phone then you are ready to flash to cooked roms
Hi,
Thanks for replying. I just tried that and have the same problem.
What have I done wrong??

Go into bootloader. If it says 1.14.0000 you are ready to go to step (5c). When you connect usb cable to pc does the text at bottom change from 'serial' to 'USB'?
Possible problems could be:
1. You haven't disabled anti-virus
2. Drivers on you pc need updated. Download step (1g) and go to (0).
If USPL is successful it should state SPL v 1.15.USPL in bootloader. If HSPL is successful it should state SPL v 1.15 OliNex
Hi,
Well after much swearing at both computer and phone, I managed to get the drivers updated. Many thanks Spartan, it seems that this was the problem as I am flashing Dutty's ROM right now.
Thanks for your help.
