Currently im using Dutty roms on my touch diamond. My phone bill keep coming in large amount have turn of my 3G to GSM disable all gprs.
What i can think of is this 2 prog.
Garmin GPS )unlikely(
Active Sync ??
Can someone please enlighten me man.
anyone help?
why no one answerrrrrrr.
Active Sync itself will not incur you any charges. You must have some sort of data connection via GPRS active. A weather program perhaps. Check your bill for when and how long the data call is for to give you a better idea.
broadband on mobile data usage 380 every month 200 300.
i dunno whats that and i did not use.
You should install spb wireless monitor, trial is enough (14 dyas of unlimited functionality). It has ability to show what program is using the Internet.

hi,
just bought a kaiser and it as been eating all my credit allthough I am not linked to internet, no programs open and without using it the credit is flying god knows where...I use a double sim card and it works perfectly in my nokia n95 but not in the kaiser (and it is compatible). Does somebody as the same problems than me?
best to all
I have no experience with what you are talking about. I assume you mean your credit with your provider? I would call them ASAP and ask them WTH is going on
maybe your weather application is downloading data? there is probably some program that is set up to download data automatically
I believe it's your GPRS, I'm using prepaid card for my phone line, after i do connection through my GPRS with my internet, few minutes my balance in my prepaid was gone with balance of SG 1cents.After that I call my provider what happened and they told me that my gprs was default(it means ,automatically activate when i surf the net). After that i create a 'dummy" gprs in order for me to use a wifi hotspot.
cheers
You might want to try 'nodata' (attached), allows you to disable GPRS, 3G etc. so you don't incur charges when your device decides it'd be fun to connect and download something

Im getting some very expensive data bills coming in from when I am roaming. I get a popup whenever my email trys to connect asking if i want to connect and incur roaming charges. I deny this and use webmail from my laptop. I do not use the internet or anything else. Yet Ive still used 4MB in 24 hours while in Germany a couple of weeks ago!
Is there an app that can tell me what is connecting, when and how much data it has transferred?
Ie..
Weatherpanel - 29/06/08 @ 14:10 - 130kb
Outlook - 02/07/08 @ 07:00 - 30kb
Does Phonealarm or SPB monitor go this indepth?
could you not disable all connections and therefore have no charges?
Try spb gprs monitor and see....it has a free trial
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/?en
And like Humz said, you could always just kill your gprs connection altogether under settings and/or using Modaco's NoData

phoneAlarm (http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html) will allow you to turn on/off the data connection based on the profile - and the new v2.0 can automatically switch the profile when you are roaming, so that you have no possibility to connect when roaming.
The data tracking in phoneAlarm will show the exact amount of data transferred - but not which application was responsible.
LCMinutes
Another good app is LCMinutes. I have free 500MB of data transfers to be used every month and I use LCMinutes to make sure I don't use any more than that.
You can get it here: http://lctools.blogspot.com/2008/01/some-links-to-lcminutes.html
Hi Peeps,
i use the internet quite frequently on my diamond... but i'm always worried about the data connection still being on after i finished surfing...
how do i make sure that the data connection is completely off once i finish surfing the net? i dont want to occur data charges for hours and hours??
thanks
????
If you can afford it get a unlimited data plan....or put on schap's advanced config tool and you can set up a timer....pm me if you more help.
Peace
Mike
I believe the data connection can be on 24/7 and its OK. As long as its not 'active' i.e. not transferring data to or from the device.
The whole idea of GPRS, 3G, HSDPA is that they are always on... but not charging unless being used.
When active you have the animated double arrows showing data transfer... check the manual for the task bar icons to see. This is the same with all connection types (except bluetooth).

Correct.
It gets a bit tricky with newer devices, however, if you don't have an unlimited plan because there's almost always something running in the background (weather updates, email polling, GPS download etc) unless you make an effort to stop each of them from initiating a connection. The best way to enjoy what a device like the Diamond has to offer is with an unlimited data package.
Which unlimited plan do you use in Egypt, mkhattab?
it take more battery life like this if it stell on guys !
rafter_01:
if you want to stop it completely jast prass the E or H icons on the upper bar and then press disconnect
it will stop the connection completely

Not always. There are quite a few ****ty networks in europe and other places that still use the old 'per minute' charging model on GPRS networks as well.
For people stuck with these bastards, it is worth having a timer somewhere to automatically kill the connection. but mkhattab is right. When i had the diamond from work, even with the timer set, it never disconnected even with push mail turned off, so it seems that they send out some sort of keep alive maybe?
Use Skschema to setup a script (they have examples you can copy/use as a tutorial - quite easy) to run an auto shutdown of 3G/GPRS every x minutes of the day, every xth day of the week/month etc.
link http://s-k-tools.com/?skschema/m_skschema.html.
I've tested it with Activesync and it appeared to work very well for the week's trial, I had.

MaroO-> I actually live in Dubai (from Egypt though)
You could try modaco NoData:
Hope It's ok to post this here, I know it is often included in roms. I have not used it at all on my Diamond, but it worked well for me in the past.

Hi,
I'm looking for a soft that would detect and identify which programs (softwares or other) initiate data connections on my kaiser.
I disabled all data-retrieving options on the different softs I have (weather,time,...), but it still connects without my wanting !
Anyone knows something that would do that ?
Thanks.
Good question and I too would be interested in the answer. Mine started doing this a few days ago and has since stopped again!
Activesync and MMS messaging
Both of these programs will switch on your data connection. I changed my mms settings to reject and changed my data connection to my work network to keep it from using data. That worked for me until I added unlimited data to my plan.
Spb Wireless Monitor does a great job at this. It isn't free, but I like it. I have it set as a Today Screen plugin to only show my MediaNet connection, but it can also show USB and wifi data usage. It will give you reports on what's using data, how much it's used, and when it was used. You can also set it to alert you before you go over your limit. It's at http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/wirelessmonitor/?en
Indeed, SPB wireless monitor is great.
I was looking exactly for the same sort of solution, since after reinstalling some apps I was having too large GPRS data loads.
hi:
how can i keep track of data transfer when i tether to laptop?
i have unlimited medianet but i dont want to use too much per month.
ideally, i would use some app that could track in real-time.
tahnx
If AT&T is your carrier, you can check this in your online account here
https://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/welcome/
thats nice, im asking for a real time tracker if there is one
SPB Wireless monitor. Tracks live speeds of data usage over all connections, including USB and Wifi. It has a today screen plug which I place on my secondtoday under Weatherpanel and serves me great.
It is what I use and love it. You can either buy it or continously keep flashing new roms and using the full fleged trial.
I agree with Scrtcwlvl. I've been using SPB Wireless Monitor for a couple months and it's ideal for what you want. You can even set it to alert you when you exceed a set usage so you don't go over your plan.
There's a problem with Wireless monitor though, at least on my Kaiser, as it won't count what goes through Internet Sharing in the 3G connection's total, which makes it a pain and useless to actually count total data usage. On the older SPB GPRS monitor it was working perfectly.
And no, looking at the traffic on USB is not an option, as there's a lot of other things like sync that would then be added to it and false the results.
So, I'm using NetMeter on the laptop instead. I tell it to monitor the Windows mobile network device only, and reset the counter on each session.
i appreciate all the replies ..i will look for and try both, thanx again
