I have not received any texts or emails in the past couple of days. I tried to go into my mail program...tmail.exe and messaging.ink, but I have yet to get back into it.
Do you folks have any other ideas?
Thank you,
What to do when you cannot get tmail.exe or get into your sms and emails
Please help me. I have done about everything that I can without flashing.
I am not even sure that would help, and I am very leary about doing that in case I dont do it correctly.
this happened to me about 4 months ago. Just back up your contacts and whatever messages (or ALL) using PIM Backup and do a hard reset. This was the ONLY thing that worked for me. Especially was scary because I was on vacation and nowhere near a PC. Haven't had a problem since.
Did you install anything that edited the registry in order to put your mail on your SD card? Because this happened to me a while ago, after I uninstalled that program, and did a soft reset, Pocket Outlook worked just fine again.

If I do a Hard Reset will that wipe out the current ROM that I am using and set it back to the original HTC ROM?
I have Sprite backup, if I do a restore will that just make the problem resume again?
I think you want to think about "dave the tytnII guy" reply & review any changes you might of recently made to your device.
If you have made no changes or can not resolve the issue by uninstalling a newly added software then hard setting could be your option.
Your current rom will remain after hard reset & so could your problem if you do a full backup & restore.

I do remember rearranging some folders, thinking that it would work better, but I cannot remember what folders I moved or deleted.
The only think that I have downloaded has been ringtones, voice commander software....
Probably linked to stuff you deleted or perhaps voice commander software.
If you can't resolve it you'll have to hard reset.
Hard reseting is not a big problem unless you have a lot of software & customizations installed.
Backup your PIM data hard reset & in future make backups before deleting folders or installing software that enters a lot of registry keys.
Good luck...

Thank you very much for your assistance. What software would you recommend to back up my PIM data? Would Sprite work?
Sprite or SPB backup or for just PIM data use PIMBackup.
I have had problems with Sprite on my tytnII, after making backups my tytn has lost WIFI connection settings & other account settings have been troublesome.
I would backup with both Sprite & SPB & see what you like the most.
Hi,
This just happened to me and I found this worked. Goto your storage card in file explorer and look for the folder inbox.mst123456 (the numbers will be different) and delete it. It worked for me. I hope it works for you.

What files do I need to backup before I hard reset so I dont have the 2-3 hours to set everything backup.
I like playing withit and trying new things but anm getting tired of trying to
put everything back the way I like it, some lesser used things take a wek or so before i stumble across them and fix them.
I am wanting to keep things like
Email settings and email I had saved
Owner Info
Device ID
Speed dial
Assigned ring tones
Font size
back light
IP Addresses for Wifi
Directory structure (moved a few lightly used itemd to a misc folder to clear up the programs directory)
Start menu items
Today screen
etc. (all I can think of now)
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks
This is something I wanna learn too
Just use a backup soft like Sprite Backup.
BUT THAT WILL RESTORE EVERYTHING LIKE i HAVE IT NOW.
i LIKE TO CHANGE THINGS BUT KEEP MY SETTINGS AND PREFERENCES THE SAME.
Sprite and Sbp Backup both allow you to only restore the PIM data etc.
...create fullbackup to save everything now with i.e. SQB Backup. Perform hard reset and prepare it like you want. Create backup.
Do you thingies and create incremental backups and save with i.e. name of changes. You can then always go back to earlier stages. I use it all the time.
If you need something what's not installed in your new backup then it's gonna cost ya 10 min. to get back in earlier stage...
Ok I did not know they did backups like that I will try it.
Hmm... very interested in this myself as I think I want to get rid of all O2 software (as much as I like O2 I believe their software is unecassary and slows the system down is this correct?), without losing all my personalised settings.
Just two things though...
1) what are/is PIM data/settings?
2) I have read on either this forum or AV forums that I need to input certain settings manually when doing a corporate install ( to completely get rid of O2 software), it also listed what these settings were, but I can't seem to find the post now?
thanks
Matt :?
From what I can find Sprite and SPB define PIM data as tasks and appointments. I have that in outlook with my first sync.
How do I restore all my personal settings and information that is not involved with a sync ?
I to have reached that conclusion...
ah well here's goes nothing with a hard reset! I'll just have to spend hours trying to get everything back to what it was settings wise!
Here goes... I'll let you know how I get on........
Great!
I followed the instructions in the manual, they didn't work, so I followed some instructions from AV Forums, they didn't work either!! My XDA won't die! Good in some respects but how can I hard reset????
Matt  :?:
Well I tried SPB and it did not get what I wanted.
Mostly I got what I would get after a sync.
Any more ideas ?
To clarify I an tired of all the fiddeling I have to do after a hard reset to get all my settings and info back.
I do not mind loading programs but an tired of setting up email accounts
Fonts, Rings, Speed dials etc.
Hooray... hard reset completed, now in corporate mode. Took me about an hour to get everything back to normal, but then I suppose I've only had the machine just over a week so not that much to reset really.
Matt
I've recently bought a Kaiser (Vodafone 1615) and weirdly messaging has stopped loading, I can't check my messages or send and SMS, etc.
I've soft reset the device, but it's still the same. Is my only option now to hard reset and lose all data?
Hello Forums!
Hi scottola,
It sounds like some kind of software fault has developed with your handset. If you got it directly from Vodafone on a contract then you're covered by a warranty for the duration of your contract term.
If you would like us to arrange repair of the handset for you please contact us on 191 and we'll diagnose what's wrong and get it fixed without delay.
Hope this helps,

This is weird: my messaging app has also just stopped working. It won't load from the buttons, or using the exe directly. Is it hard reset time?
Any thoughts guys? No emails - can you imagine?
I'm sorry, but without help from any one else I can only offer, try a soft reset, if that don't work try a hard reset, as if your device came out of the box (or with any ROM upgrades you have done).
2x soft keys and a stylus up the derrier!!
Hang on as long as you can, someone may have had this before.
I have had this before...twice....
In both cases it was immediately after loading an application - last time was Google maps.
However, it isn't Google maps that caused it..I believe, from a process of trial and error, that it was one of two apps. loaded immediately BEFORE the last one - either WIMP or Bandswitch (or maybe a combo of both). Whatever, in both cases pressing the MESSAGING button or the Today secreen item resulted in nothing. Also there were icons missing in the apps and control panel folders. My only conclusion was that a badly constructed app. had somehow not controlled where in memory it was writing.
Sorry, but the only fix for my situation was a hard reset.
Andy.
Mine does this. On mine it is lost clusters/chains on the storage card where you've saved attachments. The solution for me is to delete the Inbox.something folder on the card.
Why it happens I have no idea though.
Jon
Perfect! That worked - thank you.
The only downside is that I lost my old SMS messages - but it's better than no messages at all. Now to find a way of backing up those SMS messages....
thanks re messaging

I don't think I lost my SMS msgs but the suggestion worked. Anyhow, Sprite Archie is a way of backing up your SMS to email.

WORKED FOR ME TOO. THANKS. AND GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE WITH THIS PROBLEM
this is VERY odd.. last week my messaging also stopped working! It acted as if the messaging exe. had been deleted or something.. nothing was responsive in launching it.
Someone mentioned google maps. I CLEARLY recalled that I updated to the new version of google maps.. and then the messaging problems occurred. I had been thinking these two were related.
Thank you so very much Jon

Thank you so much for the solution. It has helped many desperate souls just like myself.
I've been hard resetting & restoring old backup for the last 4 hours without avail until I read this post. I managed to launch the SMS/MMS/email again
Thank you once again & you're our saviour!
Mine did this 2 days ago, "luckly" a soft reset on my att tilt fixed it..(crosses his fingers)
Cheers Jon
had this occur on my TYTN II this morning and was starting to panic as i keep a lot of work mail and text on my handset and havent backed up this weeks yet !!!
managed to delete the inbox.xxxxxxx folder from the memory card and all is well, no messages or data lost, mind you i did a quick PIM backup before i did just in case.....
So big thanks fella.
I just removed my storagecard and put it back in again. that was all i needed to do
Windows Mobile 6 email/SMS/MMS not starting
Thanks to all who contributed to this solution.
I have an HTC Touch Cruise and was about to do a hard-reset when I found this thread.
Saved my day! and a lot of work in case I had done hard reset, having to install all my software again.
Deleting inbox.xxxxxx folder did the trick but there is one minor issue.
The HTC Touch Cruise has the 3D TouchFlo interface and this has a "Today" app that also has quicklauncher buttons for e-mail and SMS. These buttons indicate the number of unread e-mails and SMS-es and indicates a wrong number until you do a soft-reset.
Then works like a dream.
Thanks again.
Hey gang,
HELP! I'm trying to figure out how to fix my Messaging application, it is currently broken. All of my other apps seem to be working.
I am not blaming Throttle Launcher, but it got broken sometime shortly after uninstalling it; I tried to fix my problem by reinstalling it, but no go. So I don't think it was the root cause.
If I click the messaging icon in Programs nothing happens. If I try to run tmail.exe from \Windows, nothing happens. Checking my task manager process listing, I see poutlook.exe running, but with 0KB for Memory and only 1 thread. I do not see anything related to tmail.exe listed in my task manager.
I have soft-reset with no change in behavior.
I would just hard-reset but I want to use PIM backup first, and of course, since it can't talk to pocket outlook, I can't backup my messages.
Any help here? What can I look for? Registry settings? Specific files? I do not have another device here to compare with.
pim back up will back everything even in the absence of some messaging components
i advice to run a back up and perform hard reset then restore

Thanks, but I tried PIM backup 2.8 and it doesn't allow me to backup the messages, which is really the only thing I want besides the call history.
I've used PIM backup many times before, so I can see that it really wants to use the MAPI components to do the messaging backup.
I wonder... does pim.vol hold messages, too?
Solution found
Well, I tried searching before my original posting and didn't find any solution.
A fresh search this morning turned up this answer, which (YAY!) worked for me:

Hi,
I have just been looking into putting this on my phone, looks good as it means finially I will be able to save my messages!
Just a quick question though, if i do a hard re-set on the phone, will all the backups still be there? Or will they get wiped with the phone?
cheers!
The idea of PIM back-up is not to store your messages in a way that you can read them, but to store them in a compressed file, which you can use later to re-install your appointments, contacts, messages...etc. As long as you save your back-up onto the internal storage, it will not be touched by a hard reset. After performing the hardreset you can than use the file PIM Back-up created to restore your lost files.
Hopefully you made some sense of my random babaling... maybe
Yes i did, thanks very much for the help mate!
I thought thats maybe what should be done, but thought i had better make sure. Though another quick question, if the internal storage is not affected by a hard re-set, where are text messages stored?
Hi, I am running both spb mobile and tf3d on the rc elite system. I recently installed the cleanram and used the level 2 quality purge. After using this, my TF3d stopped working and all i see is the HTC logo when i try to switch back to tf3d. The tf3d tab is selected in the today menu.
the tf3d will start working after a soft reset but by the end of the day, it will timeout and tf3d will not startup until the next soft reset. I also tried to restore my settings to where they were before with the last backup and it still happens. I looked all over the forum and and tried to search it within the forum with no luck. Please help.
Thanks
I doubt cleanram had anything to do with it, since you can get it going again with a reboot. I've had this happen when I restored pim.vol without shutting down tf3d. I have a feeling that you did a bad restore at some point. You didn't do a full restore with a backup from an old rom after the flash, did you? That's a ggod way to mess up tf3d. Or, did you install a tf3d theme without shutting it down? Even a simple thing like adding a clock can screw up manila if you don't do it right.

the tf3d timingout and not restarting happened right after I had used the cleanram. I was thinking maybe the cleanram had deleted something i needed and my backup didn't restore it back. I flashed the elite rom over 6 months with no problems and have not done a restore since after my tf3d started screwing up. And i did not do a restore when i flashed my rom on my phone. I also did not install a tf3d theme. I have even gone to the tf3d config and selected the reset/restore settings thing and it still doesn't fix things. I do not know what else to do besides do a hard reset without restoring anything, but would be my last option and do not wanna lose all my stuff.
Thanks
That is seriously weird. I'm not sure how cleanram could've deleted any files, though. All the manila files should be in rom, unless it was installed with a cab (either by you or during the bootup customization-that seems unlikely, though).
It may just be time for a hard reset, though. Six months is a long time to go without one. You can always do a full backup, hard reset, then do a full restore. The worst case scenario is that you'll be right back where you started. But, I would say there's a decent chance that you'll be ok. When you do a full restore, files and reg settings are added, but things are not normally deleted. So if you did manage to delete something important (like a registry key), then it should come back from the dead.
ok...I was thinking a full restore again would be best..lol. So should I do a hard reset and then a full restore or can I just do a full restore? I had just done a full restore and not a hard reset. I never thought doing both might make a difference compare to just doing one.
Yeah, definitely do the hard reset first. Most backup programs will tell you only to do the restore right after a hard reset. It can cause major issues if you do the restore without doing the hard reset.
