Hi all,
First post here for me Got my TyTN II a few days ago and I'm loving it. It's such a nice phone and has a great build quality.
The only big thing that I find disappointing is the speed of the device. My previous phone was an HTC Wizard and my TyTN II is supposed to be literally double the speed of it, but there's no way it feels like that. In fact the Wizard, when overclocked with BatteryStatus to about 260Mhz) seems faster than this new beast (at times).
The things I particularly notice the slow speed with are...
- opening the keyboard (switching from portrait to landscape mode seems to take 2-3 times as long as with the Wizard)
- navigating (scrolling) through the list of Programs just seems sluggish compared to my [overclocked] Wizard
Another peculiar thing I've noticed is the speed of the "view finder" in the camera. It seems sluggish to the EXTREME, almost like a "night mode" is permanently on! I've noticed that sometimes putting the device in to standby and waking it back up gets the view finder running at "full speed" (what I would say looks like 25-30 fps).
Anyone got a clue what I'm talking about?
Dave
Did you add any applications (which may not be 100% compatible) after getting the machine? I had a Wizard too and am waiting for the TyTN II to come, but with the Wizard certain applications slowed the phone down much!
Regards,
Nika.
Well yeah, I've loaded it with a ton of rubbish now but in all honesty I noticed the slow down when I first took the machine out of the box.
The camera preview/view finder is particularly puzzling!
I've just put BatteryStatus on (a) to see if the CPU is constantly working and (b) with the hope to overclock it a little. I've just noticed that it doesn't support the TyTYN II processor tho so that's out of the window!
Once a new cooked and "polished" ROM comes out for your Kaiser, it will work faster. Almost every first official ROM is buggy and sluggish. it's not the hardware, it's the software.
One reason why I don't buy a device on it's first release.
About the camera preview/view finder slowness, it is due to not enough light in the room.
I was puzzled also. I tought I got faulty device.
Try to use it outdoor, it is very good when it has enough light.

Well, this surprises me. Mine is very fast and in particular for those things you mention!! Screen orientation for example is virtually instantaneous (maybe 1 to 2 seconds compared with TyTn that could take 5 to 20 seconds) and scrolling (with the exception of PIE) is smooth and fast. From standby by to on is less than a second. Compared with the TyTn the camera on 2mg is much faster as well.
Not sure where that leaves us then, if you say it was like that out of the box. That does not sound like it's something you have loaded, but might be worth re-checking that with a hard reset.
I notice a suggestion above that a new ROM might be faster. I really question that because as I say my ROM (presumably the same as yours) is very fast and the single most impressive thing about the device!
In your situation - I would seriously consider a hard reset to be sure it was a good installation. If problems persist, I would be tempted to look at a replacement as that slowness is not normal.

That was certainly true with the TyTn, but my Kaiser (unbranded) is superbly fast. Virtually instant switch on screen rotation scrolling (except PIE), so I'm not at all convinced this is the problem in this case.

Hi
Main reason for making a device slow is running apps from the memory card. Especially if they are there in the background. Make sure that everything on your today screen and everything that runs more often is on the main memory. Storage card is good for instlations of everything you use and then close (e.g. SatNav, Camera apps etc.)
Kaiser is running extremly faster than anything else.

GOOD point! Not sure if the OP does this automatically as we all should, it's easy to overlook the obvious sometimes!

Hi - I too am having the same problems described above regarding the slowness. I'm using the default HTC installed rom (1.56.405.5).
Were you able to solve the slowness issue? If so, how?
Thanks.
I'm having an odd slowdown issue. Everything runs incredibly fast pretty much 90% of the time except when I'm syncing. Everything on the device slows to a crawl and it takes forever for activesync to finish its business. This occurs both when I'm syncing via the USB cable and when I'm doing it via bluetooth. Any ideas?
Bellfazar, the exact same thing happens to me too... I'm using Vista btw.
Plus i have a serious slowdown after softreset (so maybe it's software related, don't have time for hardreset), but after a minute or so, its fast again

After a soft reset, the phone has to load everything in memory for the first time.. So accessing the Programs window or the start menu the first time takes a while. Accessing it for the second time, everthing is already loaded into memory and fast again...
Is there not a powertool for WM6 which can help us disabling stuff?
You can use Startup Manager by Baniaczek to disable items that start at warm reboot. Or remove them manually from the WINDOWS\Startup folder
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=262476
And use HTC Task Manager to kill running applications and/or close them when closing an app instead of minimising it...

sometimes since the new kaiser tweak version i can see (batterystatus) that my processor keeps running at 100%. everything slows down. even a soft reset does not help. when i soft reset without my storage card everything is fine but as soon as i insert the card 100%. man this sucks.

Yeah, I can imagine! Especially when it seems you're the only one (or at least the first that complains). I don't mind trying to help you, but you'll have to answer some questions first:
1. What KaiserTweak.exe (time/date of file) and KaiserTweak.xml (time/date of file, or name of zip-file you downloaded) versions did you load?
2. What tweaks did you use after implementing the new version?
Regards,
Nika.
i never said it was the kaiser tweak nor do i think thats the problem. i restored to a backup from a week before and this still (sometimes happens). so you got me. When i figure this out i will let you know.

Try Q-Mobile 1.11 it is the fastest ROM I have ever used.
Overall very impressed so far, this is cetainly the best WM device I have owned - it is particularly nice to carry such a powerful package around without needing something with the form factor of a brick!!
Points to note:-
-Battery life imporves after several charges - I get 2 days out of mine comfortably
-I am on ROM 1.35 still and have no problems with lag EXCEPT....
-Memory leak (which happens even with TF3D off) can slow the device down after a few days without soft reset- this needs fixing.
-Opera seems to have an impact on speed once it has been run and then closed - deice actually freezes for about 5 seconds after closing opera (i.e screen is unresponsive to taps)
Anyone else see these issues?
I'm on ROM 1.35 too.
And i too have observed that the phone is generally fine.... until I run Opera. Could be it's not dealing with process clean up properly?
Opera: Yes, I'm experiencing the same thing...on every ROM. Opera seems to be "quitting" for about 5-7 seconds... Not sure why it needs sooo long and so much CPU cycles to terminate.
Does anyone with 1.37 have this opera problem?

Yep before i flashed to the TLR rom i had that problem...the device after closing opera would take a few secs to close so that the phone was useable. Even with the TLR rom its still the same...not really an issue for me tho.
just upgrade your rom.. the memory leak was improved in 1.37...
i just updated to version 6.1 and my typing, screen clicking seems to be laggy and unresponsive at times. Is it just too much memory usage? Might sound weird, but would it work better if i had a MicroSD?
It was fine when 6.0 was on it.
Any ideas?
When I upgraded to (AT&T ROM) 6.1 It was noticeably faster at first. Once I restored my backup files, I noticed it slowed way down for a bit. After a few more program installations and a couple more soft-resets along the way I noticed it picked back up to normal speed.
Which ROM did you upgrade to, and have you soft-reset recently?
Try to get the new HardSPL (search on forum). i have 3.56 and had the same problems before, but after upgrading to 3,56 it all worked perfectly
I just got a Diamond (XDA Ignito radio 05, os 19965, rom 1.93.206.6 WWE)
I was shocked at how slow and laggy it was.
I have had loads of HTC and other winCe devices before and was amazed at how bad the software was for such a powerfull device (192mb ram, 528mhz cpu, etc.)
I immediately started to decide which ROM I wanted to upgrade to.
anyhow, after a day of usage its become inexpicably faster, even slick. It still has lags and it still is not what I would expect for the spec., but its perfectly usable now.
anyone else had this experience ? am I completely mad ?
I still want to upgrade to a faster ROM (any suggestions for the fastest), but I am not panicing so much now.
seems like real weird behaviour.
yes.
the ROMs have to 'bed in', once it has cashed files etc it will be quicker. You will find this happens after flashing.
I would recommend Dutty's 2.8, if you just want a quicker stable ROM. Using Wildberry atm, seems good. has some prettier touches to it
It's slow....well at least compared to some of the people's Xperia X1 I've been seeing around the net.
What gives? I try and get video drivers and did the tweaking and I haven't gotten any results. Is there any way to make the graphic perform better?
I'm using SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.5 and it's a bit slow, also the Google App of Youtube is unusable for me and the one in XDA performs a little better but high quality videos lag (even with the patch), that or there is a lot of screen tearing.
Any ideas?

Not sure what could be the problem, I have no such lag at all and my X1 performs amazingly well and plays videos without a glitch. Perhaps try converting to 3GP and play through TCPMP... Could it be your current ROM?
I'm using the stock ROM, is there a ROM that performs better?
Not sure though.. Try Jerpelea's custom roms... It's fast for me... And I can watch full screen MV in WMP.. not sure whether you want this..
I think my device is not using 3d hardware acceleration. Dunno how to turn it on >_>
Firstly, roms that use HTC-Sense or Manilla will be slower...
6.1 is faster than 6.5
and only windows media player uses hardware excelleration.
I just downloaded the newest Energy (6.1) rom... will let you know how it goes
also, there is a program that wipes the flash memory before you flash a new rom... I advise you use that as the previous owner may not have done it (if second-hand)
I flashed it with the original stock ROM and started from scratch after I installed everything it was running smoother. I think the guy installing the initial thing just ****ed up somehow. Thanks a lot
ok nevermind it's still working slow, i just did a SKtools bench and my draw bitmaps is 179
thats quite odd, I just flashed the Rogers Stock Rom and ran the SKtools benchmark, and my Draw Bitmaps test scored me a 798. I did this right after flashing so no tweaking was involved. Its quite possible that you may have a hardware issue?
EDIT: I just realized that i changed the pagepool size of the stock rom to 32mb before i flashed
Im on Rogers with 2 x1s and they fly.
but im also running a custom 6.1 rom
as barebones as I could get it.
then added all my stuff. tons of it.
and shes pretty quick
Problem fixed, flashed with 826x and it's working awesome now
