How to close a program? - HTC Breeze

I´m new at the smartphones, right now i only had Touchscreen devices.
Is there a chance to close a program instead of bringing it to the background and then starting the App-Manager to close ist?

Best Task Manager?

Switched over to dutty's roms, which are great. But I miss the HTC task manager from the stock ATT rom. From what I've heard, the reason why it's not included is that it's kinda buggy and might be the reason for some of the "hangs" that people have noticed.
So I'm looking for a good task manager now, similar functionality as the old HTC one. I found tMan, which isn't bad:
http://freewarepocketpc.org/2008/utilities/tman-v099
But one problem with it is I can't figure out how to make it be black/grey (i.e transparent) vs the ugly red. I know it's a minimal gripe, but it is one.
Any other ideas, or a way to get it to be grey?
Try QuickMenu.
Quick Menu is already included in Dutty's. It is decent but QM is primarily for replicating the Windows "Start Menu".
If you are looking for a dedicated task manager try pBar. It is free and works excellent. It has a lot of nice features while maintaining a very small footprint. A quick search will lead you to it.
I am partial to WkTask. It is free also. Here: http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html
In fact, I use WkTask and Quickmenu at the same time. Both are nice and fast.
I also like Wisbar Advance 3, but it is not free and does put more of a load on your device....primarily due to the incredible themes and graphics!!!!
Here: http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/
Use the Task Manager that comes with Battery Status plugin.
I use handiswitcher along with aebuttonplus. Both programs together give me a great task manager that can be used with both the stylus and the hardware buttons.
It also has an auto reclaim ram feature so when you close a program it tries to reclaim some of the ram that program used.
Handiswitcher costs I think $10 and aebutton plus is free... but i think you pay to remove the startup screen.
I like the one ilauncher has.

spb Mobile Shell vs TFL3D

Is there allready a discussion between those 2 user forntends?
http://www.areamobile.de/specials/Xperia_X1_vs_HTC_Touch_HD/Video.php
In this german comparisson between the Touch HD vs Xperia X1 the Touch HD was winning 3:2 and one reason was the better user interface of TFL3D vs the Panel system from the X1 but they have not taken the spb Mobile Shell into consideration which is available for free for the X1.
Beside that they have not rated the battery capacity, so at the end I would say that for both devices it is at least 50:50 and the user have to decide what direction he want to go - more multimedia with a bigger screen or more business with better battery and keyboard.
This is the background of my question. And I think it is a fair question because the spb Mobile Shell is free for the X1.
Claus
PS: Me personaly I am more in favor of the X1 (because of the battery and the hardware keys)

Add to that that the Touch HD TFL3D is already ported to xperia and then the whole decision is based on if you want a hardware keyboard or prefer a larger (in size) screen.
For me the hardware keyboard wins by far.

agree
can't wait to have my xperia...
Maybe somebody who has both
TFL3D and spb mobile Shell on his X1 could comment?

they are about the same...you can do more stuff with mobile shell, but TF3d looks better...so its a matter of taste really...just install both and try
SPB Mobile Shell seems far superior to me. TF3D is way too slow and requires several more clicks to get to where you want to go. It looks great, but also is less responsive and slows down the rest of your phone's interface.
One issue I have with Mobile Shell is that the task manager seems to have disappeared. Does anybody know how to get this back? It is still running, as I can see the icon flickr in it's spot sometimes, but for the most part it is gone. Also, I can't seem to uninstall TF3D which is ridiculous.
Task Manager will disappear when you use SPB Mobile Shell Panel!
+1, same here. The task manager icon on the right corner of the screen will disappear when switching to SPB Mobile Shell Panel. That's just a really wield bug and Xperia staff did not test it thoroughly at all before release!
Touch3d slows the phone down quiet alot, and crashes and is not 100% usable right now (some things still need more work to be done to be usable on xperia)
the spb on the other hand is faster, designed for the xperia, free. It is not impressive, but it is "efficient".
Efficiency is everything.
Sure, TF3D looks great but, as previously stated, eventually it slows down the device to the point where you just want to cry, alternatively, throw it out the window. I also suspect touchflo eats battery like crazy. Besides, Mobile Shell looks pretty good as well.
TF3D was great fun for a while but now I realize it really isnt very useful. I'd rather have quick and responsive before shiny and cool.

I'd also like to know how to get the HTC task manager to show up in the upper right while using SPB mobile shell...

Indeed, me too - its the main thing that stops me settling on SPB at the moment! Ruddy stupid bug, that one!
i've figured out the solution to not having the task manager is to install aeb plus and set one of the buttons to open it's own proprietary task manager (i've set it to double click the right silver button).
works awesome and i don't have to rely on touching the corner of the touchscreen which requires using two hands.
I'm still trying to figure this out too. Very inconvenient
I think you'e missing the point.
SPB panel tries to place as much stuff as possible, into 'thum-able' icons so u can use the phone one handed without the stylus, hence task manager is located under the tool menu with large close this, close all options.
The only bug I found so far on SPB is the quick contacts, when you switch from portrait to landscape you lose the first entry in the list....very annoying.
I've used TFL3D and while very pretty the usability of SPB is greater hence i've switched back, my only requirement would be the ability to skin the SPB UI, now that would be cool
I'm experiencing some troubles with SPB, while I really enjoy using it, sometimes the phone freezes after using SPB for a while and then pressing the "panel" button.
Anybody else have this problem?
SBP on Xperia and task manager
When SBP pannel is active, the task manager is still accesible through the Button "Tools". It is removed from the corner to make it more "finger friendly". When you launch it, it displays the task list and then you have similar options than in the standard WM task manager, but arranged as a list of big buttons.
I agree that loading touchflo 3D slows down the UI (and eats 30Meg of memory). SBP is"ugly" but quick and efficent, specially if you remove the animations. However if you've used SBP in other WM device, there are lots of possibilities to customize backgrounds, colors, fonts etc. Maybe they want to get people used to it and then launch a "pro" version of the panel with enhanced look and functions (and not for free obviously)..
may i know whats the function of the Spb shell? Installed it,it's there in the settings, but no single change in the phone.
Uhhh..its a user interface. Add it to your panels and try it out.

TYVM. But how will i add it into a panel?
...push the panels button, push the icon that looks like a spanner, choose a blank panel, pick the panel you want to assign (it's in the user manual).

Getting started with application development for the Touch Pro

I have visual studio 2008 professional, and one of the project types is for smart phones. I created a simple app, loaded it up, and it worked (just a hello world app.)
The problem is, the touch pro is VGA, and in VS2008 they give you only a certain area to work with. I can stretch everything out to 480x640, but is this correct? Is there a way to show a touch pro in my work space instead of the generic smartphone they have?
If there is a sticky somewhere that I missed or another thread talking about getting started, please forgive me and let me know, thanks for your time.
VGA Emulators
I don't have VS in front of me at the moment, but you can stretch the canvas to the correct size. There are new VGA emulators in the mobile sdk refresh that you will also want to install. link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...3A-A651-4745-88EF-3D48091A390B&displaylang=en
hope this helps.

How to autolock and link PI to Calender? Please Help

Hi All,
Its my first time using the TouchFlo thingee. All along, I have been using the classic Today or SPB Shell on my other WM devices. Now I just got the Diamond 2 and initial usage of the TouchFlo is very disappointing.
It is not very `customisable' (if there is such a term). I can't link the calender to either Pocket informant or ThumbCal. Also it doesn't have a device lock button/icon like classic today or SPB Shell. Pressing and holding the `End' button to lock isn't very convenient for me.
I am comtemplating of installing a TouchFlo free ROM and use SPB Shell and classic today.
Or am I missing out on a good thing here because of my lack of understanding (plus stupidity)
Is there a way to link PI or ThumbCal to the Calender? and is there a more elegant/easier way to lock/autolock the phone (beside S2U2)?
Thanks
For locking the screen you can set a password on wake and that will auto lock, or like many of us just map the longpress on end-key to lock the device.
I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. Remove TF3D from your Today screen, you're far better off without it.
TouchFlo is a piece of marketing spin designed to put a glossy cover on what is already a very comprehensive and competent operating system, which just happens to be designed for use with a stylus. Stylii are currently not in fashion, finger-touching is now all the rage, along with pretty graphics, neither of which add anything to the functionality of the device. In fact, they detract from it. Whizz-bang animations take time, and finger-sized buttons on small screens take up too much screen-estate. It's so much better just to forego fashion trends and just use WM6.1 as it was intended - with a stylus and the standard Today screen with all your favourite plugins. Touchflo is buggy, restrictive and in many ways reduces the functionality of WM6.1. It's just a stopgap until 6.5 comes along, and even that is just a nod towards the fashionistas until WM7 eventually hits next year. WM7 will finally rebuild the OS from the ground up - that's what we're looking out for.

Best UI for Omnia 2?

Hello everyone,
I just bought a Omnia 2 and I'm planning to get an ultra-ultra-lite 6.5.5 ROM as I really don't like most of the Samsung stuff.
My intention is to get a "off the shelf" UI manager. I've been looking into PointUI and SPB Mobile Shell mainly. I also have seen Vito Winterface and some custom stuff like xda Touch Flo 3D.
Can someone provide a short review on those?
My concerns:
1) Don't get a laggy device because of the UI
2) Do not loose all the memory on the UI management.
3) Not to have a battery eater UI (read bad things about Spb MS)
4) Have a solution that handles not only the home screen but has additional managers for contacts, calendar, media, weather etc..
5) Have a nice applications panel, a home screen with weather, appointments and messages.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
I guess that the UI is a personal choice. I liked SPB MS very much, but unfortunately it is not a free app.
Thanks Junal... I agree and I don't mind to pay. My biggest concern is to use almost all the RAM only for the UI.
Unfortunately there is still 100MB from 256 reserver by samsung:/
Bu according to SPB Mobile Shell it is the best for me too

I have the same concerns regarding SPB shell..!! I used PointUI Demo version ( or the Lite version if you prefer..) and it was simply zippy.. The UI is good and the shell doesn't lag.. All in all, i would definitely recommend it over SPB as i found the UI and memory management better..!!..
In case you *don't* want any extra shell running on your WinMo ( and eating precious RAM ) , i prefer using Resco File Explorer and its Today plugin.. It is easy to use with minimum RAM/CPU needed.. And you can see the RAM, CPU,Battery and Storage space info from the Home screen.. Plus you can also add any number of shortcuts to the plugin to suit your needs.. I use it in conjuction with SPB weather ( which also uses a Today plugin..) and my phone stays zippy throughout the day.. Yet to see any lag due to it's use..!!
Attached a screenshot for the same..
Samsung Today...
I use Samsung Today, which is just a better all round experience than the rubbish TouchWiz widget thingy (in my opinion!). You need one of the newer ROM's though as it wasn't included in the last ROM release from Samsung... by last, I mean official release. Secany, over at MoDaCo has the latest JA5 available, which does include this - just check 'Samsung Today' in the 'Items on Today' option screen
PointUI w/Pointsens v2 for me.
Samsung today rules. It is not as fancy as SPB, but extremely useful and fast.
Used SPB Mobile Shell for several weeks. I admit, it looks good. I don't like the contact manager, it looks awfull. My main issue with it it slows down the Omnia a lot. It consumes a lot of MB's and lags your phone.
I now run Titanium. Put a nice looking, glossy black skin with nice icons on it. I also run PhonEx. Maybe it's not the very best contact system, but it adds a lot of functionality and eye candy. My phone is faster then ever. No issue with loosing memory or closing apps in the background. I enjoy my Omnia more then ever before. No freezes or any issue.
Curious? Try SPB MS for a while. It is a nice UI. But at some point I'm sure you will revert back to Titanium. At that point you will enjoy your Omnia as if it is new
WM 6.5 Rules
Hi everyone....
It's just funny but the best UI was always there! TITANIUM from WM 6.5!
Lightweight
Calendar / Messaging / Weather* / Contacts* / AppLauncher* Plugins
* Additional Plug ins from xda
Straightforward
For the first time Microsoft Mobile is going the right direction!
Maybe they hired some xda fellows?
You can try this ROM ie HD2 Sense UI
I not sure why no one has mentioed yet. Maybe I'm the only one who likes it. But I'm diggin iphonetoday 1.3. I don't use the today plugin. I have actually idsabled the Today, then assign the side button to luacnh the iphotoday exe. I have 80MB of ram on boot. about 76 Once iphonetoday is launched. With this my skyfire browsing experience became mch better as I can multitask
definitely the titanium... add panels and whatever to make it to your liking
JML Panex + JML today rules...
SPB
Only tried Samsung native and SPB MS and prefer MS. Cleaned it some to free around 47mb on bootup. Satisfied with features but would love more free RAM. Less lag than native UI.
Very open to try lighter UIs so i'll keep reading your inputs
47mb is very little. do u have other things booting as well? because i use PhoneEX and MS, and i can boot at 70mb even on stock rom (j6)
i tired pointUI like it very much. but too expensive =p
SPB Mobile Shell, albeit a little slow and paid
Samsung Today (new UI from JA5 ROM) is also excellent, free and customizable
OK.. I am confused with so many diff UI
1. Which is the best UI for Omnia i8000, I need one which is a eye candy and can help show off your OMLed display
2. I am planning to update my Omnia to WinMo 6.5 to get Titanium and TellMe Voice command.. is it worth..?
Titanium plugins are light and become really attractive.
Take a look.
And here are the links if anyone interested.

Another one!
Although when I first used Titanium I was not impressed now I love them.
They light, practical and beautiful.

I'm actually using SPB Shell around 64-70 MB free on start up, not that bad. Would like to start titanium but I tried everything and cannot get the interface to show -.-;
