Hey all
What do you reckon the chances are that when the next Win Mobile version 6.5 comes out, we'll be able to put it on the HD? The early previews look like it could really fix a lot of the current WinMo issues...but will there be an update for the HD?

That's what I was hoping to hear, thank you! Really hope Microsoft finally listens to the critics and does something impressive with v6.5 and eventually 7.
Wvga
For the real support 800x400 we have to wait for WM7.x
Hi SatScan. Can you elaborate please? Are you saying that in fact it won't be easy to update the HD to WM6.5, but we'll need to wait until WM7? Do you think WM7 is likely to be much more resource intensive, such that the memory and CPU of the HD wont be adequate?

No, i just say WM6.5 is still VGA and not Wvga supporting "out the box"

WM6.5 ? Do not expect something from this... The only way to have a finger friendly phone is, imho, pointui 2...
Maybe WM7, but release at the end of the year... WM is again in late...

Windows Mobile 6.1 supports WVGA already, so why 6.5 should not support it?
Yesterday I've tried the beta WM6.5 build that is floating on the web. I hope that what I've seen is all due to the beta state of the build.
Many many things don't work. For example, g-sensor doesn't work, camera doesn't work, all "not hardware buttons"(phone button, home button...), work like softkey...
But I've to say that yesterday was only a try, I've done all in a speedy way. I'll try other things in these days. I hope these things can be fixed.

Obviously I'm on Blackstone
It's only a few builds up from the latest Blackstone ROM, so it is not even close to a beta or even the final thing.
and its loaded with original 6.1 stuff....
But it obviously can be used for cooking
Good news. We can have a 6.5. looking ROM before Microsoft ships it.

That's a worderfull news!
Windows 7, Windows mobile 7 and office 14 are all very likely to be released at the same time, late 2009 / v.v.v.early 2010 latest January.
Yes, but as I've said for now all it's really buggy. The principal problem is that autorun doesn't work with this build, then many things releted to it don't work.
In addition, I've tried to use some of the cabs to make working the new WM6.5 today but for now it doesn't work, when I install them I do a soft reset then the device freeze before opening the today, same thing if I cook they directly into the rom. I've tried in different ways but for now nothing to do.
But I'll see what I can do in the next days.
Microsoft has has finally finished work on Windows Mobile 6.5, so we should hopefully start seeing bug free roms in the next few weeks.
A tweet from the Windows Mobile Development Team says it all, "For the record, Windows Mobile 6.5 is DONE... complete... looks really good IOHO and every bit functional."
It's a very good news , so now wait and see !
Hmm shouldn't we already have a version somewhere. What I mean is isn't someone already testing it?
Any ideas what is different or is it just final bug fixes etc?

Normally, such a great thing isn't just released, but there are RC (release candidates) beforehand. I don't know whether the WM6.5 roms here are already based on these release candidates, or if they are based on some real beta roms, but I guess there won't be any major differences.
What they actually meant to say was "For the record, Windows Mobile 6.5 is DONE... complete... looks really good IOHO and every bit functional except we can't get the damned alarm to work."

The alarm works in Miri V12, but you have to set the alarmtone in settings>sound&...>reminders instead of setting the alarmtone under clock.
doohh! Microsoft finished winmo 6.5 our miri finished 12 and i bet they all are better than the "original" one

now thats just being unnecessarily cynical!
what they meant to say was:
For the record, Windows Mobile 6.5 is DONE (although we will update the build every 12 hours)... complete (apart from the missing bits)... looks really good (but Manila/spb/pointUI look better) IOHO and every bit functional (providing you don't wont everything to work) however the ONE thing we did do was fix the alarm (we think??).
at least its no a Google product it would be in permenant BETA if it was!!
forget 6.5 - bring on wm7.0 - I know betas are out there already!!!
THat is a VEry great news i cant wait for the new roms based on the new build(not beta at last)

The fact that they have released WM6.5 is great news. Means all cooks can use a non-beta version. I doubt very much that it will be bugless and agree with an earlier post that Miri's rom is probably better. I look forward to a lot more WM6.5 cooked roms.

Hi Fallen Spartan,
i totally agree, do you know (as you often BETA test for him) is Dutty working on a WinMo 6.5 ROM yet?
He is my favourite chef even though i am on a Miri ROM at the moment this is only because i wanted to try 6.5
hoping he can weave his magic on the latest builds

You are correct. He plans to take a rest now, possibly a week or 2 and then start working on WM6.5 rom. He has told me this before and released a rom within a week so I would keep an eye out as you never know with Throy. Complete workaholic!!
Hang on we're talking about a ported Core and build to a device that is obviously never intended to run it
I dont think there's such a thing as a "bug free" ROM! what bugs are we talking about?
The bare WM6.5 seems pretty damn good in terms or stability and bugs (bar the damn alarm issue) seems to me the main issues are when HTC Manila, dialer, album etc etc from other device are cooked in that the real problems occur and since they will never be compatible with HD how much more "bug free" will it get than now?
Is there any WM6.1 ROM that is "bug free"?
Sorry for my noob question...
I heard that all TD2 gets a WM 6.5 upgrade for free when the system is released. (Hopefully September )
But how do we get it? Do HTC release some kind of upgrade software on their website?
The reason why I ask, is because there is no flyer or information about this free upgrade in my TD2 box, and I don't see any update software on my installation CD, so I need to know that I get this, because the salesman told me, that all TD2's gets the upgrade for free.
Thanks!
Yes the upgrade will be free. There will probably be a page on the HTC site where you have to type in your serial number and then a Windows EXE to download. This will then upgrade the unit over ActiveSync.

Heard somewhere else WM6.5 was out in May but guess we have to wait on HTC. I would hope they'd prioritise it as it's a good selling point.
Rob.
Yup, it was annouced that WM6.5 is complete and has been RTM. Now only a matter of time before we see some good stuff rolling in.. or just wait for HardSPL. I got a feeling HardSPL will arrive before WM6.5
What is your guess about the ToucFlo3D interface? Will it look the same after an upgrade or will there be more parts that are visible from WM6.5?
Will it work as it works now, you choose the default home screen or the TF3D home screen?
I got a feeling it will still be the current Touchflow3D. I bet most people will turn off the TF3D.
Personally, as soon as 6.5 goes on my Topaz I'm going to dump manila, it's driving me nuts!
Hi,
I would very much like to see a German ROM with the final version of Windows Mobile 6.5, the one we are going to see on October the 6th. I believe it is build 21234, at least that is the one in the SDK.
If possible, I would like the ROM to have all original programs. Nothing should be deleted or added to the image. No tools, no taskmanagers, nothing. No Manila please...
Is it possible to do that? Thank you very much in advance
You have to make a search before posting...see RTT leet rom!
I am using RTT Leet ROMs but this is not what I asked for. I have searched and found nothing! I just want a normal WinMobile build based on the final RTM version of Windows Mobile. Everybody here is cooking much later builds which I don't find very good. They are also removing ringtones, programs and I hate that. I wish I could have an original Windows Mobile ROM with no extra stuff.

Than you are on the false site RTT have realy make a very good job and when you will a offical latest rom for the hd, than go back to the win 6.1 on the htc homepage RTT has remove some things to make his version on the inoffical rom of wm6.5 for the hd really fast and smooth. I tried really many roms and his version is very, very fast. I think you not will find something of your wishes for a rom.
I guess you haven't understood what I wrote...

Petvas,
I dont think you will find what you are looking for. You may wanted to talk a chef whether he would cook a ROM just for you
Ask buddy count h's a German Cook see here "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534534" and ask him self to cook a rom for you
I don't think that anyone here would make a ROM just for me. Maybe I should learn to do it myself. I just don't understand why people aren't interested in the final Windows Mobile 6.5 build and like things like Manila. If someone likes Windows Mobile, then he/she should see that Manila is nothing but a threat to Windows Mobile..(and it is slow, just a bad copy of the iPhone). I like to use my stylus too..not only the fingers...

I am sorry but I can’t follow you about the manila.. Manila is just a skin that sits on the WM platform. Manila wouldn’t function if it would not use the data Base given by WM OS. However said that if you don’t like it..Then you just disable it and you have the pure WM
That is unfortunately not correct. There are still things in the ROM that do not belong to the pure WM OS. As I said before I just wish to have a ROM based on the final WM 6.5 OS. How difficult is that?

petvas, as far as I know - official WM 6.5 will be launched in October.
Therefore about what official WM 6.5 are you talking about?
yep. you want something that still does not exist. there is no official wm 6.5, only beta releases.

Well, that cannot be true. Windows Mobile 6.5 was released to manufacters at least two months ago, otherwise it wouldn't be possible for them to bring devices on October the 6th. I would just like a ROM based on the RTM build...

January 6th 2010. Still in the rumor mill. When the source is tmonews.
People tend to trust it.
I'm going to stick with my super fast build of 6.5.3 that our wonderful cooks have provided. In my experience with past phones with T-Mobile and software updates then this new 6.5 from TMO will be very slow.... like a snail. I think the cooks here put together a much faster, more practical ROM. I agree that the news is terriffic for everyone not able to flash to a new ROM but I am excited to see what our cooks come up with next!
Cool...
