Exactly, why would anyone Supply their s/n, whats it needed for. Internet is a sharing world, but its also a corrupt world.
It's for downloading the officially released roms from the HTC site when they come out. If I remember, HTC's site requires you to enter your s/n just to see the entire list of downloads for a given phone. The reason for asking for each country is that the phones are released in each of these markets with a different set of serials, which (for language, legal, and carrier reasons) prevents customers from downloading a ROM that's not intended for their phone.
The reason for asking/posting on here and having a full list is that people can:
a) keep an eye out for new roms without relying on the owners from that particular country to check regularly
b) make it easy for owners of a phone with a different country's serial to get the new rom, which can then be flashed on if they have HardSPL. Some people do this because they want to have the latest features while still using official roms (not sure what they have against cooked roms, but each to their own.)

I agree. We've never had a problem before of HTC roms not been published on xda developers. I can't see a need for this.

I don't really want to get myself involved in a discussion on this, especially since I was just answering a question, not advocating...but...Really? Never seen problems?
I know that leaked roms have become very common lately, and I agree, there's no reason that the roms can't or shouldn't be placed somewhere else so that they are more readily and reliably available...but I know that I can find several threads that are filled with people asking/looking for serial numbers to use on HTC's site to download some official rom or another. If I recall, the Diamond had a lot of times where official roms were really slow to become available on here (to the order of days or possibly weeks).
I agree that public posting of serials is not the best solution even if the leaked roms somehow stopped appearing. But I don't see a good reason that a few of the more skilled and dedicated shouldn't have a collection of serials so they can easily check the site regularly.

I never saw the Diamond Problems (I'm not arguing that there could have been some) nor have I seen a massive number of SN requests. But that's just my personal experience - I can't be everywhere
Leaked ROMs never appear on HTC.com so that's a different kettle of fish.

Never had the problem with the blackstone either.
OP,
Maybe it's a good idea not to post the complete personal Data of a persons Serial number.
Put in a Few XX's.
And also i would not ever recommend anyone to, and can understand if someone doesn't, just give up his serial number.
Let it be a lesson from the past that it is any members Call to Re upload a downloaded official Rom and post it to the Wiki.
It's a nice effort, but having peoples Serial numbers is a touchy subject that we need to talk about as the moderation team.
Closing the thread for now.

Seriously!
I'm real new to this PDA stuff, and you all speak latin to me.
What I can tell you is this:
- I have a QTEK 9100, with ROM version 1.6.7.1.WWE
- My QTEK is full of bugs. LOL!
- Someone installed Sprite backup for me, and I can take a backup to SD now.
- I'm in Belgium, and my GSM-provider is Proximus (dunno if that's important)
But what I don't know is
- how do I find out what the latest ROM version is?
- And how do I find out what the correct ROM version is (does that depend on the operator?)
- Where do I download the ROM?
- How do I install it without losing any data?
Really sorry 4 the dumbass questions!
Thanks,
J.
Well
Very Clear You Haven't read any of the posts in this forum.
let me tell you in short: as a beginner you can can upgrade to the latest ORIGINAL ROM without any problem. and when you read enough posts you will know how to upgrade to unofficial ROMs safely.
you can find the official rom on qtek's website.
have fun
Re: Well
Oh but I >HAVE< read on this forum. Up to page 10 I've been, reading posts. The more I read, the more confused I get.
Note that I tried to register @ myqtek.com, but I get this; Not a valid IMEI# (only Brightpoint authorized original products are supported by this site. Contact your place of purchase for ongoing support of your device)
Yes, I am sure my number is correct (it is both on the box, and returned by *#06#)!
Some support eh?
Anyway, so that's why I ended up here.
Are the original ROM's not on this site as well? I found this on the ftp server: RUU_Prodigy_2170702_21707102_20710_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe
Is that the latest one? Can I use that one?
Thanks!

Yes, this site has copies of most OEM Roms. The one you listed is the QTEK AKU 2.0 Rom which does have much improved stability and performance over the original shipped one. I should be the correct Rom for your Phone.
If you ever might want to install a custom or Non-standard Rom this would be the time to CID unlock your phone as it becomes much more difficult once you have upgraded to one of the AKU 2.x Roms.
I cannot download this and have also the same issue as u ! HELP PLS
Reading your post is my reality now... can u enlight me a little on this...
thanx

Somebody have a tool what can change the imei number in my Qtek 9000
Any tool to change IMEI in the Nike?
Hi
Any have a similar program, or anything to do the same on OMNIA i900? I need chege the imei.
Pleaseee Help me
Guys, READ the POST: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=276851.
Really, read it carefully, no matter what you do to your IMEI it may be illegal in your country, and may carry serious jail time as a penalty, the 'i'm repairing my imei, not changing it' argument makes no difference in some countries.
it dont matters if you change your imei...nobody goes to jail! it doesnt matters anyone! the only thing you loose is your warranty.
The Problems are the Providers...
some providers didnt check the imei at lock up in the cellular-net.
with these you can use the phone like you want. in germany only D2 Vodafone and T-Mobile check the imei. if you use e-plus or other nothing will be happen.
otherwise you cant lock in the cellular-net, so you have no reception.
Deleting Imei is a great way to use sim-locked devices! but only if you have e-plus as provider
This is nonsense, changing the IMEI is NOT illegal or amon_ra and all the others who make custom recovery img or custom versions of os's that were not released officially for the resp. devices (Cyanogen e.g.) would do time! It COULD void your waranty ... brick the phone ... kill your dog ... cause the third world war , but it CAN'T be illegal!
I have researched this and here in the United States it is NOT illegal to change the IMEI number.
So with that being said if anyone knows of a way to do it on a Galaxy TAB please let me know because right now T-Mobile is filtering certain services based on the IMEI number which is really lame. Just like your ISP can't tell you which brand and model of computer to use with their service I don't think T-Mobile should be dictating what services people can use and how much they charge for them based solely on the device they are using. They should be honoring all GSM devices that are compatible with their network the same.
People on AT&T have been doing this for years because if they see you have an iPhone IMEI they automatically tac on a more expensive data plan just because you have THAT particular phone.
Seconded. While I use a Nook Color, the devs haven't fixed a randomly generating IMEI. I'm looking for a program that you can run before IMEI-sensitive applications to set the IMEI to a specific value to avoid incompatibility issues.
It's much easier to say who can do
Do not know why when it comes to this forum imei some users say it is illegal would be easier to assume that they do not know how to accumulate again and add the answers forum with useless, cretinous and trash

if for WinMo maybe can try JAFWM
changing IMEI/ESN is 100% LEGAL !!!
unless you change the IMEI of the stolen phones, you might end up in jail
MOD EDIT: No it's not. Thread closed. IMEI changing is illegal.
how to change IMEI for X8??
Hi,
I don't know, which is the correct RUU for my phone and where to find it.
The phone detail is,
Bootloader:
IPL 4.24.0002
SPL 4.24.0000
About:
Windows Mobile 6 Professional
CE os 5.2.1622 (build 18128.0.4.4)
Device Information:
Rom : 4.24.720.3 WWE
ROM date : 01/17/08
Radio version : 03.12.90
Protocol version: 4.1.13.56
ExtROM version : 4.24.720.103
I searched in the following places,
1) Official Herald Updates : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Herald_Upgrades
Couldn't find the one for 4.24.720.3 WWE . Can I use any of 4.xx.xxx.x wwe ???
2) Index of ftp://[email protected]/Uploads/Herald/Official WM6 roms/
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Herald/Official WM6 roms/
It lists many roms but none of them is 4.24
3) All WM6 / WM6.1 Roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358030
The link provided over there for the All official HTC Roms is not working. That is - http://rapidshare.com/users/5EWZ4
4) 2 CDs came along with the phone does not contain anything like that.
5) I couldn't even find a thread which explains about the correct RUU (may be I didn't use proper criteria).
By the question you understand that I am new to flashing. I don't want to brick the phone.
Thanks for your help.
what is the branding on your phone? Is it a tmobile wing, xda terra or whatever?
It is HTC P4350.
Purchased and using in India.
Not bought from any service provider.
http://www.htc.com/select_country.htm
Then register on the ECLUB and find the downloads section.
I am a member already. But in worldwide section, not in India section. In worldwide section I could find the updation to WM6 and someother hotfixes. No other RUU.
Its not letting me to open another membership in India section. Is it necessary to login to the respective country site??
Anyway I have sent mail to HTC. Let me see what they have to say.
I went ahead to download the WM6 upgrade file. When I enter the s/n it shows
"Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
You need to register your unique phone on the site with the IMEI code. Being member @ HTC isn't enough.
just use our wiki. No registration required.
I visited wiki. Found the following in "Official Herald Updates"
Operator Language CID ROM BootLoader Download Forum
HTC WWE ?? 4.12 ?? Download Thread
But couldn't find a RUU for 4.24 . Can I use the 4.12 ?

I did register my phone. (It asked the s/n, but not IMIE). Still I could not find the RUU in the download section.
Help
I registered in the HTC worldwide section. And HTC email service has replied me as following
"We would like to inform you that world wide section and India website link is same."
I am not able to find the RUU in the HTC E-club, XDA-developers wiki page and FTP page.
If I am not wrong, I do not have the correct RUU means I can not flash my device . I don't want to waste my device with the stock rom. Can someone please help me.
Please
can someone please provide me the RUU for my device.
refer the first post for my device details.
Latest, official T-Mobile ROM, world wide English:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RRN7Z4YJ
Hi. Thank you for the link.
Can you (or someone) confirm that the RUU is for my device.
Coz, it says T-mobile Wing. But my device in P4350.
Sorry, I don't know how to make this sure.
Hi,
I might be asking for more. But, can someone help me, how can I make sure that the avaialbe official RUU is the one for my device? What is the criteria?
I don't want to brick my device and then searching for official RUU.
It's a different device from the wing and hearld, mainly just the keyboard mapping

This is a bad news for me.
I'll wait till I get the original rom.
(I have to be happy with the stock rom itself. I don't want to take much risk.
These PDAs are still costly over here. I can not afford to buy one more.)
Hi!
This week I bought a Tilt secondhand. I'm sure that some work has been done to it. First I noticed that the previous owner has using a non AT&T SIM, I'm an AT&T subscriber, so at least it's sim unlocked. Then I noticed that when I turn it on there's no AT&T animation, there's a HTC animation. I also noticed that when I turn it on or soft reset it, after the "Smart Computing" comes up, there're some numbers in the lower right corner.
R: 1.65.17.56
G: 25.83.40.02H
D: 3.28.00.00
I registered here before I decided to buy the Tilt and I read many of the treads, so I know that many kinds of ROMs and programming exists for this device. So, what I want to know is how do I know what was done, installed, changed to this Tilt?
Thanks
Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds like whoever last owned the device flashed an HTC ROM onto it.
Dave
Easy. Go to Start>Settings>System>Device Information You should be able to read the ROM version installed.
Yeah I guessed they changed the original rom, the rom installed is 3.28.405.0 WWE, DATE 05/02/08, radio 1.65.17.56 & protocol 25.83.40.02H. Still that doesn't tell me much.
I need to know which of all the ROM I read mentioned on the forums is the one installed, I need to know if there's a better alternative & I need to read a whole lot more to understand all my options here.
you just need to flash and find out for yourself don't ask "what is the best rom" its a matter of opinion and you can get banned for asking that.
here are some links to get you started with flashing

Simply compare it with the SHIPPED ROM List in the WIKI! I am sure they flashed the ORIGINAL SHIPPED HTC Rom ... ! BTW: If it is the original AT&T Tilt, then they have (for sure) performed a SIM UNLOCK and in addition a CID UNLOCK. From my point of view, I do not concider an item as NEW if someone did this to a device!

Thanks Junner2003!!
This is the kind of information I was looking for. I suppose that the higher the rom number, the more updated the rom is?
In general: it is a newer ROM if the number is higher. However, that does not necessary mean that the ROM is better. Newer ROMs contain for sure BUG FIXES for older ROMs but mostly contain a whole bunch of new bugs as well.
If you stick with an older ROM, it has the advantage that often users came up with a BUG FIX for well known issues or at least they can provide some kind of workaround.
OK so I checked the ROM Wiki and found my rom number (3.28.405.0 WWE). Would it be correct to say that the upgrade would be 3.34.721.2 WWE? Is the country code what defines what I can use?
PS:
I must be real slow because I get timeout & have to relogin before I can finish an answer to any post.

WWE is World Wide English so if you speak English it would probably not be a good idea to flash a rom in a foreign language like Australian or something.
Yes it is the newest rom , released in Oct

Hello everyone and to who ever can help
1, im wondering if anyone know how to make the phone display Japanese, Chinese and Korea, I'm using WM6.5 clean version and i'd like to keep it that way;
2, i remeber there was a post about different Panels, couldn't find it no more, anyone can attache a link?

Here the answer to number 2:

As for question nr 1, I would guess you had to install a localized version for those languages as they differ from western languages by a fair bit. So I would suggest to either download a Jap/Chi/Kor stock rom or if available a custom one from this forum or try to cook a rom yourself.
But as you see, I'm just a junior member, there are people that know far more than I.
Good luck anyways

Update: Check this, seems to be clean with atleast chinese: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543073&highlight=chinese
Update2: Sorry, its only full version that has Chinese support
