I dont know if it helps, but try to disable the notification for new sms.
ill try that... but i do still want sound
think im jus outta luck, ill jus have to deal w/ it.
it bothers the hell out of me too.
i wish there was a fix.
In order for there to be a "fix," it has to be broken first. This is how it was designed. When you get a message the phone wakes and receives the message. Therefore, the screen lights up. So there is no "fix," its functioning as designed. Though if anyone knows of "tweak" you may be able to change it. But I really don't think there is a way.
wow dude lol i couldnt care less about terminology... its a problem for me and its annoying so i want a fix for the problem
Blackberry knows wut theyre doing , jus makes the noise and screen stays off!! lol
o well ill live

There you go again asking for a "fix" to the screen lighting up. The point I'm trying to make is that this is like going to Ford and saying every time I turn the Wheel to the Left the car goes Left. Can you fix that?
Also, I would think that preventing the Screen from Coming on when the Device is "doing something" would prevent it from coming on when you wanted to.

cant believe we r goin this far about a word, but im not quitting!!
Definitions of fix...
1. to repair; mend.
2. to put in order or in good condition; adjust or arrrange: She fixed her hair in a bun.
3. to make fast, firm, or stable.
4. to place definitely and more or less permanently: to fix a circus poster to a wall.
5. to settle definitely; determine: to fix a price.
6. to direct (the eyes, the attention, etc.) steadily: His eyes were fixed on the distant ship.
7. to attract and hold (the eye, the attention, etc.).
8. to make set or rigid.
9. to put into permanent form.
10. to put or place (responsibility, blame, etc.) on a person.
11. to assign or refer to a definite place, time, etc.
12. to provide or supply with (something needed or wanted): How are you fixed for money?
13. Informal. to arrange or influence the outcome or action of, esp. privately or dishonestly: to fix a jury; to fix a game.
14. to get (a meal); prepare (food): What time shall I fix supper?
15. Informal. to put in a condition or position to make no further trouble.
16. Informal. to get even with; get revenge upon: I'll fix him!
so from these examples it obviously means something doesnt have to be broken to be fixed. could mean many things, and im using number 2, adjust or arrange. like it says, doesnt mean the girls hair was broken, she jus didnt like it so she fixed it to make it better.
FIX my screen from lighting up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
haha
I think it is a problem. My back light goes on from an email and stays on till the battery dies or I notice it. I have to be careful and check it frequently or I get a dead phone by lunch. I need the backlight to do what I setup in the power settings - I think it should be turning itself off. It ain't.
u changed it under power settings and under backlight settings?? def shouldnt stay on toooo long!
ki think we are outta luck here. I have the same problem.
I just have to lock the device from having anything accidently turn on
look mr. mcgee, you are very right ("its functioning as designed"), but it's a poor design to say the least. (Fire the turd that came up with that design)
If someone sends me a message i'm forced to stop everything i'm doing so that my phone doesn't get into mischief and go calling other people without my knowing.
I usually have my phone in my holster with S2U2 running. If only there was a way S2U2 would not wake up for anything other than a phone call, but would still vibrate or ring you when you receive an sms or the like.
If someone could come up with a fix..(or excuse me)... a tweak..... I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT!
+1!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its a poor design maybe for u and some other few people. The majority think its a good design. I cant seem to understand your problem. When someone sends me an sms and my phone is in my case(holster) and I dont want to read it, I just leave it and the backlight turns of itself. Where is the problem?

Pretty much exactly my point. It seems every month or so some person comes in and attacks the phone for doing what its supposed to. This is the second Light comes on when I get a SMS thread I've seen. Next people will complain because the phone is ringing when they get a phone call.
As for the person who's light stays on indefinitely after receiving a email you may actually have a problem. The phone sometimes will "stay awake" if there is some program running in the background that is misbehaving.

Thank heavens I am not the only one. I thought someone from xda made a secret competition and the winner will be the one that have the most complains on his phone. If u dont like your phone, buy another one that suites u better then this one. Sorry for being so b*tchy.

Phones and everything in life can always be more. In this case our phones could, and in my opinion should, be more customizeable. The reason they aren't is because if the phone user feels overwhelmed by the complexity of their device, they may not like it and will be less likely to buy another in the future, so from a marketing standpoint there is reason to dumb things down to a degree.
I, however, want as much customizeability as possible.
My girlfriend's Samsung i760 behaves different from my kaiser. On her phone SMS messages will NOT bring the phone out of standby (and turn the display on.) It does give the requested sound and/or vibration alert and flash the LED and display the message notification on screen (when you turn it on) for the set time periods, though. The i760 runs WM6 like our kaisers. My kaiser, as well as every other HTC device I've ever owned does take the phone out of standby and turn the display on for SMS, though. So this tells me there definitely is some software method of tweaking it so that it does what you want. I don't know what it is, but it would sure be nice of someone knew of a registry setting for it.
BTW, our kaisers take the phone out of standby for SMS and MMS (and phone calls, of course), but don't do so for emails. Every day email and SMS become closer to eachother to me in significance and importance, so why shouldn't they cause the phone to behave in the same way?

Interesting. I'm sure there is something that could be done. I'd be willing to look into it. But I'd need a Samsung i760 to see if I could pull any info or software from it. So if anyone has a Samsung i760 they'd like to give me for development purposes of course, I'd see if we could figure out how to make this happen.
BTW, My phone does turn on the screen when I get an email.

ok, good point. Have u tried some sms applications? Maybe they have the option to not to turn the screen on. (just a suggestion).
If this ever happens to you, you have a bad phone and should return it. I really hate it when MY phone wakes up and decides to randomly call someone in Hong Kong.
Seriously - I have to understand this - you really honestly think that your phone can wake up and call someone, or email someone, or SMS someone without you doing something?

Loving the Diamond... but big issues have come up and they are starting to make it difficult to really use the device. I am trying to determine if the issues I am having are brought on by myself or if the issues are related to some challenge with the phone or my carrier.
"What's the issue," you ask?
The Diamond will not pick up a call. The phone will ring, the caller display will come up, I'll try and pick it up by either pushing the onscreen command or pick it up via the pick-up button... nothing. The call rings through to voicemail. Meanwhile I have to call the person back who just called me. Massively irritating and even more irritating it's does actually pick up SOMETIMES. The problem is I cannot determine why it works sometimes and why it does not. 90% of the time it does not work. When I do get it to work all I need to do is activate my bluetooth headset and then turn it back off and we are back in the same situation where the phone will not answer, however, this time... the phone does not RING either! Yes that's right - all sounds go bye bye on the phone when I activate BT and then turn it off. Also, I cannot pick up the phone with bluetooth headset. I can hear the phone ring through and everything looks dandy but no go! Push the pick-up button - nothing. This isn't such a big deal really - I mean - who cares if it picks up on the BT headset - I just want to be able to answer a call in general!
Now - I do have a lot of applications on the machine from a modifcation perspective and I am thinking this could all very well be my fault. I have Advance Config, Diamond TF3D config, and Diamond Tweak all loaded (each have their own benefit.)
Strange thing is... I just did a test and the phone picks up JUST FINE. I'm about ready to pull my hair out. It's really hard to put my finger on it. Tried it a second time, if I try to answer with the soft key it won't work but the hard key will work. Now the hard key will not actually hang up the call - I have to use the softkey to hang it up. I don't know if anyone is having the same issues but I am to the point of hard-reset to start from scratch.
I actually had the "can't pick up" problem just yesterday, but with my Prophet. Using Pdaviet's MyVista 6.1 Rom and S2U2. The phone rang, S2U2 displaying the full screen call notification, no chance of picking up the call.
Do you also use S2U2?
When you find your self in a hole, it usually helps if you stop digging.
Unpalatable as it might seem, I think with hassles like you've got, a HR is probably your best option.
ps, just a thought, have you at any stage in your tweaking done any button or key re-mapping... either inadvertently or by design? Maybe worth a check before giving up
wow, that's a whole load of issues
I've had my Diamond for about a week now..... and have had none of those issues..... Bluetooth works fine, picking up is a breeze....
what provider are you with?
I remember reading more complaints about sound going bye after Bluetooth use in the early days of the Diamond. Try searching around a bit and see if you can find something. However, seeing your other issues, a hard-reset might not be out of place.
Also, for aesthetics, do note that it is usually considered bad practice to place two identical symbols after each other when masking cursewords with random characters.

By far probably the best advise yet!
The emotional side... aka incredible hulk... came out and punched shift/keyboard number row (pounded rather.) I was thinking in my head, "smash Diamond" and the KB had to take the abuse.
Carrier information for those who asked.
CDMA Diamond on the lovely Telus system (aka - Tel-us, we take your money)
As with all troubleshooting, you need to start from beginning. When you first got the phone, it could answer call. Right? So you need to trace back to what have you done to the phone step by step and to find out when it starts to fail.
Doh... Well I reset the device... seems to work now but something that seemed to be working before was my Zune subscription music from Zune Pass was synching to my mobile device via a Synch Center setup. I was amazed it was actually working... now it's not working So - I get calling back and lose the little trick that was working - Zune Pass DRM music synching with my Diamond... you win some and you lose some I guess doh.

You should do some research and some reading.
And relax a little before you Fire up and disrupt a Community in peace.
I have the same thing going on now... same programs installed as you.
Is it still working after a hard reset? Did you re-install all the same programs?
Well, I'm on a Telus Diamond, and had the no answer problem, and solved it with a hard reset.. just try it, it doesn't take too much to get everything back to the way you had everything..

Touch Screen Just Stopped Working (for no reason!)

Hi,
I've had my Touch Diamond since August last year, so 08/2008 to 11/2009, just over a year and all of a sudden yesterday, I came to use the phone and the screen would not respond. (Never dropped, squezzed or got wet)
After resetting it, turning it off, on etc... its just not responding. The physical button lets me scroll the menu and I can receive and answer call, but the touch screen is dead?
I was looking at it in a shop today and it caught me eye that when the screen is off (in stand-by) it appears there is a kind oily / shiny looking square thin layer under the screen... I'm thinking its burnt out of something. its hard to see and you need the right light.
Has anybody seen this before or had it happen to them? Is the phone fit for the bin now? Whats the story with manufacture warranty (as I got it on eBay)
Unfortunately I lost my job to redundancy / recession not long ago, so can't afford a new one, any ideas what €150 / €200 would get me that has a nice big screen like the Touch Diamond, Wi-Fi and maybe GPS too... I've go so used to my Touch Diamond comforts that I don't think I could go back to a boring Nokia lol (I know beggers can't be choosers)
Would love a HTC Hero! Anybody want to sell me one for €200
Thanks for listening and letting me mourn the passing of my beloved phone. Any help / advice is much appreciated!
DG.

Device Passcode

Hey all, I'm looking for a program that will allow me to COMPLETELY lock my phone! I work in an area where I get up from my desk often and need to be able to lock my phone. The current program will lock it, but if the phone rings, it will show the number, etc., and allow you to answer it.
Yesterday, when I got back to my desk, someone said, "I was just coming over here to see you when your phone rang. It was your wife's picture. So I answered it for you." Now, I understand this lady's willingness to help, and she's a good friend of my wife, BUT... She wouldn't have answered if she didn't know who was calling (I told her how I didn't appreciate that BTW)!!!!
I need a program that will keep the face OFF, and the phone LOCKED, NO MATTER WHAT!!!
Is this possible?
Thanks.
Never seen any software to totally lock the phone even during an incoming call. Only software I can think of that may do a few things that you want is called "Call Hider". It's not very good though.
Simple solution: Why not just pick up the phone and take it with you when you leave your desk?

I don't have time or the brain to remember to get it each time. It's very fast-paced and most times I'm not gone very long. And, it's very heavy in my pocket and I prefer to leave it on top of my desk so that I can check texts, etc. periodically.

Maybe buying a case with a beltclip would help you out then.
