Not much of a difference to the stock ROM - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi,
yesterday I finally installed the HardSPL and played a bit with ROMs. Eventually I installed EnergyROM but have to admit that I am not noticing a great performance boost. I know this might be a 6.1 vs 6.5 issue, but I wonder whether there would be really a noticeable boost over the lastest stock ROM by installing a custom 6.1 ROM.
I stumbled over some ROMs mentioning drivers (I suppose for hardware acceleration), would those ROMs really improve the performance? Which would be the recommended drivers?
As I am looking for a plain but very recent build, I'd like to know which would be the most recent build. I suppose 6.5 will always have a more recent build than 6.1 or do they share a common build base?
Thank you.

I tried many roms, and now I have: Gen.Y D2 R1.25 ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521941
This one is best. Good performance and stable.

Thank you, this ROM seems to be based on build 21051 which would be a bit off of the build of EnergyROM (21812).
Is it just behind or does 6.1 generally use lower builds? What would be the overall recommendation towards build numbers?
I also saw it mentions two drivers. I suppose this is for a better performance (even though I still couldnt notice a real improvement over the stock ROM), isnt it? Would this be specific to this ROM or do "all" come with those drivers (as compared to a slower driver-less hardware access)?
Thank you.

Your probably not searching in the details...
EnergyRom has the new tfl3d which is a lot better than stock.
New photo album which is much faster.
winmo 6.5 is much more finger friendly.
New dialer - much better
scrollwheel enabled
EZinput keyboard
better performance - tweaked almost to perfection
It's been a very long time since I used a stock ROM, but as far as I recall the stock Roms do not include all of the above.

Thanks, to be honest however as I already mentioned I couldnt really notice an improved performance over the stock ROM. Actually the memory allocation was even higher.
As to the mentioned features like tfl3d and the photo album I dont really use them. Hence, in terms of features I personally wouldnt really see a particular reason to use the EnergyROM, unless of course the performance would be much better due to the higher builds, which I do not see however.
What I am primarily wondering about is whether there would be must reason to upgrade to a new build of 6.1 or even 6.5 and whether there is something else which could improve the performance (like drivers which I read about sometimes)

IMO,if you want speed, buy something else with a Marvell or samsung S3C cpu,or accept it for what it is and enjoy it's good point's.

Qualcomm CPU is reeealllly slow!!! Edit:partially solved!

A few words about the HTC Kaiser:
it has a great design, with many functions. Also good features (GPS, QWERTY keyboard, etc).
But: I now have about 4 WM-devices at home. An Asus P525, an HTC Hermes, an Ipaq 914c, a Sony Xperia X1, and a Kaiser.
And you know which one performs the WORST? It is the Kaiser
And I guess it is due to the Qualcomm CPU. The menus open much slower than on the other ones. The P525 from Asus has a feature to set the CPU to power save/normal/turbo. Even power save is not as bad as the Kaiser.
Also the scrolling in the menus (WM6.5 style) is not as smooth. And yes, I tried all kinds of ROMs (6.1 and 6.5, different builds and chefs as well).
I think I will sell my Kaiser now and avoid Qualcomm CPUs for the future.
Too bad the Hermes has no GPS built-in. Otherwise, I would give it clear preference.
have you tried gfxboost yet?
(search for it on xda!)

downloaded and installed it! Thank you! It is way better now, still behind other CPUs but approaching "reasonable".
GFXboost is available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509704
also this thread seems interesting: (June 1st 2009!!!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=496528
Now I wonder why almost none of the chefs use gfxboost in their ROMs?
glad to help! htc really did a number with the kaiser (and continues to do so with newer models)...htc makes great hardware but they really need to get their act together with all the driver and software issues and inadequacies...
BUT xda and the geniuses here has been such a wonderful resource to get our devices purring like they should be in the first place when they leave the factory
ALSO, the kaiser is a GREAT machine (as you mentioned)...feel free to tweak it and try out other ROMs...if you are into wm6.1 and manila2d, i highly recommend the ROM i am currently using, with gfxboost added on manually of course (HyperDragon IV Rhodium ROM April 10th, 2009)
regarding ROMs with gfxboost, SOME exist (i think abusalza with his PDACorner ROMs briefly included gfxboost in one of his recent ROMs)
if you're looking for better scrolling, then i hear wm6.5 has builtin scrolling that is better than touchflo and i have read reports that wm6.5 also benefits from gfxboost but you already seem to know most of this, judging from your first post!

Most stable 6.5 ROM?

Hi guys,
I am getting an X1 in a few days and would like to know opinions on what the most stable 6.5 ROM out there at the moment is. Also some comments about speed and usability compared to stock would be appreciated!
Hopefully others will find this info useful, too, so please keep it civil.

well i think the most stable would be either one of itje's or agent_47's., the ones with manila 2.1 though because the leo versions are still in beta.
one of the best customised would be NRG's. of course being the flashaholic that i am i switch between all three for every new rom thats posted
double post!

Yeah, I know. Sorry about that, don't know how to delete the other thread.
Try....V-Lite 4.3 by mobilevu
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505214
This guy knows his kitchen, ive been using his roms since he started posting his work. I havn't had any problems regarding speed and stability
For me:
NEW V-LITE 4.3 COBALT HARDCORE EDITION FINAL (Stable)
The Energy-ROM with manila 2.1 is very stable and responsive. In my opinion the best, since speed is good for almost every program, many useful tweaks and programs included. I've tried most manila ROMs and found this one the best on all fronts. I must say I haven't tried the V-LITE COBALT yet.
Make sure you don't compare titanium with manila ROMs
And then also make a difference between manila 2.1 and 2.5
V-Lite is a very good non-manila ROM, but stayed on 23004
Valkyrie is state of the art, both with and w/o manila
Energy is eye-candy with some little bumps (video-lag) for Titanium.
Which bumps have you encountered in the Energy ROM if I may ask, haven't found one yet. Even the manila 2.5 is working smooth on most fronts except the SMS app is a little crappy, but I can work with it.
Thanks for the replies guys, keep em coming! The more opinions the better.
I see Agent_47's Valkyrie 2.9 FS has reworked OEM drivers and neo2007 3D drivers. He seems to post fixes pretty quickly in response to bug reports, too.
V-Lite also looks good... apparently stable and very functional while still looking very nice.
So many ROMs, posted so often...
oh boy! I think I am going to become a flashing addict....
@ bjornkopp: video and youtube lagging, display doesn't turn off during call (no known to me tweak works), ring sound and vibra may be off, battery eater
--> It's my current ROM nevertheless ;-)

Same for me: despite all those, i love this rom (still using the 05.08.2009 version, as this is bug free).

Miris 6.5 V9.0+ suggestions

V9.0 Seems to be pretty stable. Slow but stable. Would recommend bundling Neos driver patch 3 into it. Results in significant boost in fluidity of manilla UI and general speed.Performance after doing this is much better.
It would be nice if an extra 10-15% performance boost could be obtained to ensure a virtually lag free experience. Would like to commend the people working on the graphics boost drivers as they are working really well. Keep it up! I would love to help out with this but i dont have much hardware level programming experience. If you reckon i can still help out ill be more than willing just give send me a message.
RAM usage seems a little high albeit most applications run smoothly it is just manilla which lags a bit.
Would like it if the functionality to edit soft key mapping was introduced as at present i can only manage one of the buttons. I also noticed the ability to adjust screen brightness has gone (but this may just be the wm6.5 os).
All in all though this rom is one of the best 6.5 roms ive used so far.
this thread should just have been a post in miris thread. miri is more likely to read it there

Rom that is most suitable

Hi there!!!
First of all, (just in case somebody wanders who the heck I am), I am regular bloke not particulary interested in any of the parts of developing and cooking ROM-s. Just a user who, (aren't we all), wants to have more stable and faster, (as it is able), os on the Phone.
In the first place, when I've bought the X1, I have been happy for a while, after that I begun to see some disadvantages of that device, (small icons, unresponsive OS, some kind of "its own will" etc), so I refered to this forum. Have been reading for it for a while, and decided to try some of ROM-s You gays are cooking.
And here is keypoint.
Ok, it is meant to be free, so I'm not actualy allowed to moan about any thing here, but...
Some ROM-s are to overloaded with needles features thus rather are slow, some are buggy, some of ROM-s are locked with features that are unable to move out of the OS, (like twitter, facebook, stocks and similar things specially coming with manilla interface).
These things are slowing down devices, (I really do not know why so), so badly that are diverting me, (and I believe others), from using some of Your products.
Instead of, I believe unnecessary thingies, You could cook an clean ROM with
Manilla some kind of , and basic features it gives. Other things could be put in by users.
Or I'm wrong ???
So I decided to put this post with Your, (meaning all users) opinions and to put some critics on same place
Thanks in advance.
I recommend you try Jack 4.x ROM. You can try the lite or medium. Both ROM versions are very stable and fast and you can customize them. You can find them in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543073
Well, I think I am the "typical" guy like you.
Depending on your preferences, I do think you can find what you want and need. It takes, of course, some trials, but the flashing process is fast and easy.
I actually prefer the Manila ROMs because of that very interface. In combination with WinMo 6.1, and without too much other software, you get speed and stability, as you assume. After quite some trials, I stayed with Touch X 10.8.2 because it is fast, not overloaded and stable.
Even the latest 6.5 WinMo variants combined with any version of Manila do not seem to me as fast as the 6.1 ROMs, including the really nice Touch IT Multilanguage, which looks as "clean" as you would get a new Manila device. When I tried it, I liked it very much even though it is slower than Touch X, but the bug I found took me back to Touch X again.
If you are not into Manila at all, there are some "clean" and "pure" WinMo ROMs - no Manila at all - which might offer even more speed than Touch X - I never tried that.
Touch X 10.1
It has an older manila 2.1, very fast and stable. Bugs have all been fixed and it has been around a while. Also has a nice selection of apps included and "it just works".
I am a bit of a flashaholic, but when I need my device to be usable and stable I flash 10.1

New to this

Hi i have tryed to search for it but don't think i am typing the correct thing. What are the benifit of putting a updated rom on my Toch HD? I just put htc's latest on and see no diffrence. I have been looking at overclocking it slightly as i think it runs so slow has any one done this?
Regards
Chris W
You cannot overclock (atleast not where stable) the blackstone. there was a program floating about at one point which did OC it to 600MHz (something like that) but that would crash if touchflow was enabled, but i digress. To improve performance, i suggest you install the driverpack which is in the how to improve graphics performance thread in this forum.
If you want some more speed, i suggest you install a custom 6.1 ROM (topix, the one by kwbr, is a personal favourite). alternatively, you could adjust the pagepool of the ROM youre on atm (would require the ROM image youre using and later a reflash of the edited image)
That said, the stock ROM was very quick for me. programs loaded almost instantaeously (most apps, like notes, youtube, WMP, but not opera or games, as these always take a second or too to load onto RAM). the only thing that put me off the stock ROM, was the fact that everything worked a bit too well for my liking. it was kinda boring. ever since i started screwing around with it (with this aid of this forum ofc), ive been able to do much more than i could with just a stock ROM.
