I know it sound weird, but my Kaiser can't be switched off anymore:
The device is set to turn itself off after 1 minute on batteries.
(Would not switch off automatically.)
When I press the on/off switch nothing happens.
When I press and hold the on/off switch, a dialog comes on that informs that the device will be switched off and unsave information might get lost.
But the "busy icon" for minutes comes on and the Kaiser does not switch off.
Pressing the stylus into the reset hole resets the device, but the problem remains the same.
Any ideas?
Thank you very much in advance.
Thanks
V
PS: I tried to search the forum intensively but I can't bring up useful threads.
Solution found
Looks as if I found how to cure the problem myself:
Everything else but TomTom 7,450 seemed to work on the machine.
TomTom hang when I tried to start it.
And using TomTom was the last thing I did yesterday.
So I tried to uninstall it.
But the WM uninstall hang as well while trying to remove it.
A Reset would not help here either.
So I manually deleted all files in the Navigator Directory
and did a reset.
Ran uninstall again. Then reset.
And from now the device was back to normal as far as the
on/off button is concerned. (YEPP!)
Reinstalled TomTom and all is back to normal as far as I can see.

Yesterday and today I have had a little issue. When I turn it on it boots up fine and when it gets to the htc screen it dims and when it is fully booted the backlight is pretty dim and the slideout does not make a sound nor does the screen change orientation?? I try to turn it off and the hour glass just spins and I have to remove the battery. I have tried soft reset with no results, but if I do a sync it clears it up and all works great?? I have not tried a hard reset thought I would check with you guys first for any ideas???? Thanks

if you've installed 3rd-party apps, i'd remove one at a time to see if they could be causing the problem... if that doesn't work, then a hard reset may be the best route. good luck!
Thanks I will give that a shot. Must be something at startup.

i had the same problem after tomtom frozed up my device. soft resets just resulted in nothing working but it also boots fine when i'm connected to my computer using activesync. i used the backup program that came with with phone and went back a week and that seemed to solved the problem.
Thanks I wish I had of tried that but I finally did a hard reset and that worked. I also left tomtom off for a bit and see how it goes. The only thing different is I traveled one time zone and when I returned all the trouble started. My computer also switched time zone when I synced???? Wierd....

I have had the same problem with my vodafone V1615, was working fine, first hing that seemed to happen to me was i plugged in the wired head set and the screen switched off and would not come back on. Did a normal reset and came back on but power button would not switch the phone off or on. TomTom and Sprite backup both would not work along with other programs.
Tried several soft resets all exactly same, boot up but wont run and power button not working, also the screen stays dim.
Only thing other than the head set was i plugged it in to TomTom Home but did not download anything, i did try a backup using it but that failed.
Anyone else managed to clear this without hard resetting as my only backup is just after i got the phone before i installed the full UK maps so a real pain in the ass.
Mark
I tried removing all third party stuff one at a time and soft resetting and still the same problem you have. Once I did the hard reset it was fine...Pain in the A.. wish I knew what the glitch was????

I've tried various ROMS, currently using the clean Tilt rom. After a hard reset I am able to turn on the WLAN and connect to my home network. After a while, I am no longer able to turn on the WLAN. If I tap the WLAN button in comm manager, I see the spinning beach ball for a few seconds, then nothing happens. The icon doesn't light up, it doesn't search for a network, no error is displayed, just nothing.
Has anyone seen this problem or have an idea of what else I can check?
Did you install any of the custom comm managers? It's pretty common that they break the WLAN enable/disable. I use the 10 button one but there is a reghack to fix it.
I just did another hard reset. Still using Helmi_Tilt_AKU.0.7.0.R1.BigStorage.exe ROM. After the initial startup and customization ran, I was able to turn on and connect the WLAN. After that, I did a power off. (Hold the power button 5 secs). When I turned the Tilt back on, I was no longer able to turn on the WLAN. I had not installed any software.
I'm reflashing with the original ATT rom. I'll report back after I've done the same test with that ROM.
I reflashed the original ATT rom. Same Issue. I think I just have a bad unit. If I power cycle. sometimes it works, sometime it doesn't. I haven't been able to get a consistent result.
Final result. It was a bad unit. I got a warranty replacement and it's working fine now.
This just started happening:
I restart my tilt. I push the power button and the display brightness gets brighter but the device does not turn off. I push it again, the device turns off but then I can't get it to turn back on without soft resetting! What the crap??!!
Any clue what is going on?
Thanks!
Alan
I am just a n00b, but it sounds like your power button got mapped to your brightness control somehow, and when the screen goes black, the device is not off, just brightness set to 0. When you soft reset, the unit just sets back to default. I am not proficient in mapping the buttons, but a quick search on the forum should help. I know that there are a lot of threads having to do with mapping keys.
Hi
I experience the same problem and strange enough after I downloaded a patch released by HTC for potential issue with blue tooth and the phone.
A soft reset does not solve the problem, instead a Sync with the PC (even not a full one) cure it for a period of 2-3 days.
I have the impression that it is more complicated than just a registry issue. For instance I can not run the TOM TOM any more.
The HTC support only suggested a hard reset that I did but for complicated reasons I was forced to restore a back up I had.
So I am still affected by this problem.
I did a hard reset and used spb backup to restore everything to the day prior. The last thing I remember installing was s2u2 0.99c which seems that it would mess with how the device responds to the power button. I'm going to post over there and see if there is a chance it was the culprit.
Alan
You have to disable directdraw in s2u2.

It was and is disabled at least according to s2u2 settings. I did notice that for me in 0.99c DPAD was enabled but did not work.
Hi. I am a new owner of the AT&T Tilt, so I was messing around with a few cool new features. I installed the HTC Home Plugin and the HTC Default Theme, which looked really nice. After I installed these, things began going crazy. When I had them installed, the screen would not turn back on after going blank, so I would have to remove the battery and then reboot it again. When it loaded back up, I tried to manually power it off via the power button on the side. INstead of powering off, it would freeze. Sucks, I know...
So I finally decided to remove both the plugin and the default screen, as I figured it would send things back to normal. It didn't. When it was all removed, I tried to slide the phone open, but the screen did not automatically switch to landscape view. So I tried to power it off, and it acted as if it was continually loading something and refused to turn off.
This is very furstrating... Do any of you all know what to do?
Thanks.

Try a soft reset and if that doesn't work, back up any data you don't want to lose and then try a hard reset. This will bring you back to factory settings but you lose all your data and added programs.
I have both those things on my Tilt and have not had that happen. Any other third party software it could be reacting with?
Not that I know of. I installed TomTom6 on there, but I had that for several hours prior to putting the two other programs on there and it worked just fine. Is there a way to do a hard reset before the phone turns on fully? Because once it turns on, I am very limited as to what I can do...
Yes.
Put your stylus into the reset hole (just above and to the right of the USB port) and hold both soft keys at the same time (next to the green and red phone buttons).
Hm.. Strange thing happened. I simply held the two soft keys at start up and it seems to have reset the whole thing. Did I do this correctly or should I redo it?

hmm i don't think so you did a hard reset than buddy. Hard reset is holding the two soft keys and than inserting stylus into soft reset hole on bottom of phone. Doing this brings you to a white screen with a warning in blue that basically tells you all data will be erased to proceed hit the send button .. and once you hit send (green button) than it starts the hard reset and once it finishes it asks you to hit the send button again to reboot the phone.
Yeah. STrangely enough, it didn't warn me of any of that. It simply took a while to boot up from the AT&T screen and when it did, all of the stuff that I had installed was gone...
Another question..
Okay, so after about seven attempts, I finally got the hard reset to work properly. Now that everything is back to it's manufacture settings, I would like to update the plain jane look of it. I know this may sound utterly stupid, but can anyone tell me exactly how to install the HTC Plugin along with the HTC Default theme and Customizer? (If links can be provided as to the correct download site, it would be greatly appreciated as well.)
The last time I thought I installed these correctly, my phone went crazy...
Thanks guys.
P.S. TomTom 6 would not have an affect on my phone.. would it?
Thanks again!
no tomtom6 will not affect your phone, I have used it for months with HTC home plugin, didn't have an issue with my tilt. I hope that helps. I don't quite understand what you want to do with the customizer maybe someone else can help ya with that.
Good luck on your new phone.

Go here, down load HTC Home plugin and Home Customizer again.
Remember to soft reset after installing (no soft keys just stylus in the reset hole) Go to start>settings>today>items, check HTC Home. And you should be good to go.
If not , now you know how to hard reset and start again.

Alright! Thanks a lot!
I'll keep you informed as to how it goes! Thanks again!
Ah! Thanks! It works flawlessly now!
Juuust kidding...
I don't know what it is, but it worked just fine for a while.
Now, whenever I tap the power button on the side to turn the screen off, I can not get it to turn back on.
Why?
Hi hope someone can help. Over the weekend my TD2 started playing up. All of the hardware buttons apart from the on/off button have stopped working. I also notice that if I turn the screen off with a short tap of the on/off button, after a few seconds it comes back on again. All touch screen functions are ok. It also appears to be draining the battery very quickly, to the extent that fully charged at bedtime (no bluetooth or wifi on and a stable 3-4 bar signal) it will be comppletely drained by morning. As far as I am aware the phone has not gotten wet at all.
I have also re-installed the office HTC rom, which made no difference
Any ideas??
So you reinstalled the stock rom and did a hard reset?
You can try Tarkim's Keyboard controller and see if your hardware keys can be mapped to a different function.
That would help eliminate hardware vs software issues.
I have the same problem. Also my backlight keeps working and won't go off. Can't perform a hard reset because my volume buttons(and all other hardbuttons accept the on/off) aren't working.
Searched for the solution but can't find it anywhere. Who can help me?

Try clear storage app to HR.
Thanks for your reaction.
Yesterday I managed to put an official ROM on my phone.(latest from HTC site).
Problem only got worser. Phone gets complety stuck(directly after boot) in the volume screen. Sometimes its flashes back to the normal screen but only for 1 second. Buttons still aren't working so can't do anything with my phone right now( not even the hard reset methode you told me).
Started to think that this is really some hardware issue. Can't remember that water got in my phone or the phone felt really hard. Any solutions maybe?
Otherwise I think I just go to the store.

One last thing you can try is a Task29 explained here.
Use your official rom (right click on .exe and extract the RUU_Signed.nbh and place in task29 folder, then connect device in Bootloader mode and run the Task29.exe. Follow the instructions in the link.
