No activesync, read-only X1, nothing in Remove Programs.... - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok, I was really excited about getting my X1 for over a year, after it was first announced, finally got it in february, and what can i say? biggest piece of p**s letdown EVER!
Anyway, I spent the weekend at a festival, so got home and tried uploading my pics and videos.... but I cant!! Having tried on 2 PCs (home, XP, Activesync 4.5, Work, Vista, WMDC) on the XP machine I get a failed to sync error, and on the vista machine I get the most pathetic error message I have ever seen, EVER!!! The error message is: "Error". Well duh!!
So i've tried to go to add/remove programs, having had this problem before, and there is nothing in the list. So i cant remove any programs. I've tried to copy my pics/vids to my storage card, access is denied. Ive managed to upload my pics to facebook, but unfortunately cant do the same with my vids.
I have tried to delete an unrelated file, access denied.
SO I've googled the problem, and 2 fixes have been found:
Microsoft Support said: Hard reset device. (useful bunch, arent they??)
End-user gave a MSWord resolution, which worked for about 80% of people but not me, and quite a few others. The Word sollution doesnt look practical, I must say.
a LOT of people say they have experienced this after using Twikini... I dont use that, but I DO use TweetToday, or TodayTweet, whatever it's called.
Sorry if I come across a bit raged, I'm just so p**d off with MS after I was using Symbian for YEEEARS, moved to WinMo and have had months and months of dissapointment, only now to loose some of those memories that should be treasured. I refuse to do a hard reset, this is NOT a valid sollution. I have enough of that problem when my phone hard resets itself as it is!
I remember someone posting a fix to this, after the last time I had the problem, unfortunately it was too late, and i'd already hard reset by that stage. It was some kinda registry edit.... as I have CERegEditor I was hoping to find it, but having googled it, I cant Does anyone know where that is, or remember/know what the registry fix is?
Sorry about the rant, I really am

I had this problem before too. I tried everything, but in the end I just did a hard reset. Definately frustrating.

Xda IIs - Showing Serial V2.06

Hi, I've been going round and round for the past 5 hours + now reading on how to stop this, I've tried everything that I would know how to do, like 5 times round.. and nothing. I tried updating to
"BA_O2UK_14000_237_11200_ShipXdaIIs"
Also known as
"Xda_IIs_Upgrade_v140242"
Or not as known as, but are just the same?
I'm using the docking thing for my Xda, have the powerlead/usb both plugged in properly. So I take it outta the box again, install all nessicarly things (I'm running Vista Ultimate) Have installed "Windows Mobile Device Center" or "ActiveSync" - Xda was working great with it all.. but stupid me, has to go and update it.. how does the saying go "If it's not broke, don't fix it"? I always do the opposite. Anyways..
As I was doing the update, it was "searching" for the Xda, and I know it was there, because activesync has seen it, there was a partnership ect.. And then the update said that the Xda wasn't plugged in and this error came up "Searial (Or 'USB' when in dock) v2.06.
And now, I completly shut down activesync and then put Xda back on docking thing, and it opens again... So it must know phone is there? I can probably say I have literally read every thread about these problems but nothing... So please can you not just link me.. And like Help!
PLEASE! - One does beg of you
Hi there,
your device is in bootloader mode. Have you tried resetting you xda (use the stylus to reset the device)? If you didn't start the upgrade process yet your phone should boot normally.
If you have tried this and it didn't work follow instructions on this page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_FAQ_Bootloader_mode
and try to update the xda again...
remember: XDA-Wiki is your friend and you'll find all of the answer there...

Tried that now... And still nothing... Do you think Windows Vista could be something to do with it?
Nobody still know what I have to do? I asked in phoneshop and they quoted me £70 to do it... So I think I'll sit and wait and see what happends on here..
one of the above procedures should work. Try it on a non Vista PC (if you have this option).

Yeah, I had the same problem with my XDA IIs a couple of weeks ago and fixed the problem by loading a new radio ROM using an XP machine and my USB cradle.
My thread is here.
Basically, download the radio ROM updater from this website and run it and you should find that your BlueAngel springs into life again.
I'm pretty sure (from my experiences and from spending a weekend thinking I'd killed my device!) that all is not lost.
Good luck!
That I might just do... hopefully should work..
Cheers for all the help guys! Got it sorted now... Anyone wanna buy an Unregisterd copy of Vista Ultimate? XD Crappy thing doesen't pick up PDA's when they've been formatted...ect...
So remember everyone! If you're using windows vista with your Xda IIs... It wont upgrade
thanks again!

GoodLink

So has anyone been able to fix this problem of not being able to use Good on the Tilt?
I've heard a patch may be coming from HTC but nothing confirmed.
Just wondering if anyone else has had any luck with this.
Thanks
You might do a search over on the Wizard WM6 forum. There was discussion about Goodlink and people trying to get it to work on WM6 there. I seem to recall there may have been a workaround but not sure.
I use goodlink on my Tilt and it works fine. Is there anything specific you are having trouble with? Such as installation or the running of the application... maybe I could help.
Good is great on Tilt
I'm using Good on my Tilt as well. I've actually had less problems on this device using Good than on my previous 2.
Just because the Good icon isn't in your program folder like it was on the 8525, don't be alarmed. You don't need the 'Get Good' icon to actually get Good. What I suggest you do is hard reset and then go to get.good.com with your browser. I find that when Good is the first piece of software installed, it works best because it really takes over a lot of the phone so that's why if you've loaded up a bunch of apps, it might be wise to start completely over with a fresh install.
Download the little installer app from that site and then run it, put in your email address and a your code, which is sent by your IT dept and then let the install run uninterrupted for about 20-30 min. You should have NO problems with it.
FWIW, when I called my IT dept to let them know I bought a new device and needed to get a new code from the good server he said to me 'you know Good won't work on a Mobile 6 device, don't you?' He was wrong, I knew he was wrong, and then I just told him it was Mobile 5 so he'd just send it.
Allright I'll give it a shot.
I already downloaded the Good cab as it didn't give me an incompatable message. Problem now is when I try to install it, the server is down so I'll try again in a bit.
Thanks
i installed goodlink on my kaiser and it's working fine too.
good luck.
Thanks.
Still getting the server error but I'll keep trying
Well I'm still getting the server error so I guess its not going to work for me this way. I'm thinking about trying the hard reset and going for it again...
Don't really seem to have any other options...

I Can't Connect my Tilt...HELP!!

I've searched for an answer in these forums and can't find one. I have tried some suggestions from here to no avail. Well...here's the problem. I've had my Tilt for a couple of months. All has been great and i love it...up until now.
I've put several roms on it and they've all worked fine. Got that down...I thought. I can't get activesync to see the tilt on any of my computers. It won't find it on the laptop I've been using to load. My desktop at work, that I've been using sometimes to load it, won't see it and it won't even connect on a new computer in my office with fresh ASync 4.5. Like I said....it has been working fine I just decided today to load a new Dutty rom and I can't even hook up. Wow....this is so aggravating. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Activesync is still on the tilt too. I've killed the program in taskmgr. I've stopped all running apps in the tilt. I have 2 different cables also. By the way....I don't care to wipe it clean...if I need to. Any suggestions as to what I can do? If anyone's got any clues to what my problem could be I would be eternally grateful. Thanks in advance for responses.
Desparate!
Please help me....if you can. I know there's a tremendous amount of knowledge here. Surely someone's been through this same problem and was able to fix it. I've seen another post similar to this and he's not getting an answer to his problem either. If I we need to contact HTC....please recommend that. Some of you "tilt masters" please respond. Thanks in advance.
Also I had a similar problem and i had installed a blackberry program on my tilt. That created a connection problem between my tilt and the sync program and it couldnt see my tilt. I figured out that the blackberry desktop program thought it had dibs on my tilt because the bb was on my tilt. I removed the BB off my tilt it did a hard reset and then proceeded to manually remove every windows mobile device partnership there were many. Rebooted my computer and tried it again and it worked. You could try a hard reset and then and then use system restore to a few days before you had the problem and see if you can trick it.
I had this problem.
Hard-Reset fixed it
Thanks for the replies....I've tried the hard reset twice and that didn't work either. Have been on the phone with HTC support and we did several things. Still not working. He was supposed to call me back in 10 min but didn't for a couple of hours. Anyway...I've got to contact them back and take up where we left off. Surely we can get this thing going again. If HTC can fix it....no one can. When we get it up and going...i'll report back here for others future needs. The phone works great besides that!
Again thank....and anyone else have a suggestion.
Please respond to...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362679
Thanks..
Check the USB pins on the unit, mine were bent down and did not make contact, i think from memory the 3rd pin in is the data connection.

Please read for this is no oridinary problem.....Unable to Activesync

I have AT&T 8925, live in United States, Run on a Dutty Rom and pretty much everything else is simple. No serious tweaking or reg hacks.
So Today, I go into work, plug in my PDA, and no sync. It is charging via the USB, but not syncing to Activesync. I need Activesync, it has all my contacts, appointments, etc etc. In the process of trying to troubleshoot this problem I have wiped my phone clean.
I have tried it all;
clearing storage on phone
deleting activesync off PC (4.5) and reinstalling, multiple times
Used Microsfts Troubleshooting guide
I have installed Activesync on three different PC's and all wont recognize the phone, as if its not there, but it does charge. I also have tried 3 different USB cords.
I don't know what to do, I even stumped the HTC troubleshooting tech guy. I also am screwed since if I send this phone back to AT&T under warranty to get a new one they will see the Dutty ROM and that will void my warranty. I would reinstall the original Windows/AT&T shipped Rom, but I cant get the Activesync up or don't know how to get a PC to recognize my PDA.
So.........I beg and plead, lend your advice for as long as this thread goes (hoping its in the right place) I will try your ideas, theories, and what nots.
IT seems like it would just be something so simple......is it? Where is my Data Connection.....
Thank you fellow XDA members for your time and assistance.

Do you get the "connecting" sound on the PC when you plug the device (same one you get when plugging any USB device)? If not I'd go for hardware fault on the phone's USB port... maybe one of the connector's solder points got ripped or whatever. That's if the port isn't fried altogether... Done anything special between the last time it worked and the first one it didn't?
This may be obvious...but did you restart your computer and hard reset your phone, then try? Im using vista and ive had no problems with any roms...so it just maybe a temporary problem.
Also test this while using the back USB ports, the front ports do not connect the same as the back ports do.
When my new Tilt's screen died an untimely death, I spent all day restoring all my goodies to the replacement Tilt. The next day, went to ActiveSync, and NOTHING! Charged, etc, but no connection. I did all the steps you tried and a few more.
Then, after wasting an entire evening, I found the solution!
Go to Connections>USB to PC, and uncheck 'Enable advanced network". Plug it and let 'er sync.

ahaha yea i thought graff had already checked the software so i didnt bother going into that
I suggest u try to search, there is a search option - type there something like "cannot conect to activesync" - there are milions of threads with this problem, unfortunately I dont know if there will be a solution for u. Just try that out and read.
This happened to me and I had to send my phone in to at&t. I know this probably wasn't what you wanted to hear. They sent me another phone and gave me 10 days from the day I received the new phone to send back the old. I also had the same rom as above I couldn't even flash it via sd card, so I sent it as was and haven't heard anything since. This was two months ago. The problem turned out to be with the mini usb port, it was warped like it got to hot or something. Maybe from using in car for gps I don't know. I hope this helps.
answers and bump
As for searching........always someone has to say it, "why dont you try the search option" - my friend, I am a google allstar and beleive in the forum searching till you can no more then post theory. Now saying that, I am willing to bet the answer to my problem is buried within a post in some thread with some fabric of the entire XDA forum. Finding it though can be harder than removing bubblegum from buckwheats hair.
So I have tried a hard reset for the PDA and the restarted my PC, several times.
...no go
I knew something was wrong when I lost the "ding" every time I hooked up the PDA via USB to my computer.
I had tried the unchecking the Enable Advanced Network before but did again and reset the phone with hopes of glory today. No glory.
I feel I have lost the phone and am ready to move on. Its just so friggen hard since it charges. How can it charge, and not stream data! I fried just the right parts of the mini USB? Blasted! So so so so disappointing because I felt I really had it nailed this time with the perfect radio, ROM, Dialer, programs, software, it all.....well maybe not radio, but my receptions suck all the time anyways and I live in Charlotte NC, a major US city with great AT&T coverage.
Now.....I am still open to any ideas and creative thoughts......but how do I get a the original WM6 Shipped ROM back on the phone? If I cant get any PC to recognize my PC via USB? I am calling in the warranty people today and not speaking of my Dutty, but having a new phone shipped. I just hope not to see a nasty bill come one month or two.
Thanks so far, well done XDA forum friends,

.....I am curious for you. Two months seems like your in the clear, but I hope not to jinx you. I have done the whole 10 days thing 6 times so far since the original purchase of my 8525 in August of 2007. Wasn't until the 5th time I complained and they offered me the 8925 as a replacement. The first five were all shipped back on time, with original ROM's and valid device malfunctions. Never have I been billed.....yet........

Right now at work trying to save the file to the storage card via wifi. Shall be interesting to see if it works. Didnt on phone, said not enough mem.
Thanks for the suggestion, was so hooked on USB, forgot the other various aspects of the all great HTC.

You are wise my friend. Thank you for the other software, I will try that. Funny thing about the PC, is I have tried three different PC's, all which it used to sync or try to sync with when I would just be charging. I would love to flash via SD card, but first I need the adapter for my computer, or track a friend down with a printer and correct slot. That might be done tonight. I am at work now trying to download the a rapidshare file of a shipped rom, free style, slow style, and prolly not going to work. But hey, its a learning experience.
Either way, my warranty is up in August, so I figure why not get one more nice new fresh 8925 before then. Ordered new one today, comes next week. I will still try and flash back to the shipped rom via SD tonight.
XDA and its members Rock, this is by far the most help I have ever received via my few threads.

Odd process on windows XP. What is this?

This is not even related to PPC's just thought i would ask here as well. Today on my computer at work i found a wired process that i had never heard of befor. BSFC.exe. it has itself in the startup folder for all users and even if i delete it it comes back...anyone ever heard of this befor? i'm thinking it's a virus since it keeps coming back. Tired googleing it but came up empty. i have it blocked from runing using mortscript so it can't start but something still keeps putting it back in the startup folder...any input?
thanx for the reply mike but i had already found this and this is not it cause i never downloaded that prog nor is the file in program files....i tried searching on google and mcfee and norton but can't find anything about it. as i stated it keep placing itself in the windows startup folder...even if i delete it it comes back
back...this might be worst than i thought...it seems to be tide to outlook express...every time i launch outlook this bsfc.exe launches as well
Very suspicious. Have you tried uploading the file to http://www.virustotal.com/ and/or http://virusscan.jotti.org/ ?
