Inbox crashes when disconnecting or power ON - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi!
I have a strange problem. Each time I power on my device, if inbox was previously opened, after a few seconds it disappears. The same thing happens when there is an ongoing network connection (3G or Activesync etc), and the connection ends (disconnect 3G or plug out the USB). If I was in the middle of something it gets lost.
This also means that if I send or receive an MMS and it starts to upload/download it, after the transfer it disconnects --> Inbox crashes immediately.
So it is somehow related to network disconnections, but I cannot figure out more. I am on Nataly 2.6, but I am not sure if that matters. I really would not like to do a hard reset
I tried killing all the running processes, it didn't help. There is something with the Inbox, maybe it glues itself immediately to any active connection and crashes if that connection is closed while it still uses it.
Any clues?

Solution
I found out that mortscript was runing in the background after each disconnect and wakeup. It executed a script that kiled tmail.exe. I never personally installed mortscript so I guess it is included by default in Nataly 2.6 ROM. It is kind of stupid so I suggest removing the respective line from the ROM (files netshut.mscr and wakeup.mscr).

how can we remove that files (netshut.mscr and wakeup.mscr)?

Big problem with gprs and mms

Hey there guys. I have this problem: when I hard reset my qtek, so when it is "brand new", after I do the internet gprs and mms settings, both work perfectly. After I install my programs, the problems begin: I can only SEND mms and not recieve. Only the screen lights up, nothing else. The gprs also starts "kidding": it keeps trying to connect , and after a while it stops and says smth like "cannot connect for unknown reason, bla bla". Only if I soft reset the device t
e gprs will work, but NOT the mms (still cant recieve). I have installed some games and some apps: implus (messenger), netfront, pocket plus, gprs monitor, animated today, zenphonetools (profiles manager) and thats about it. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA of what could cause this problems? And maybe a solution?! THANK YOU!!!
i have the exact same problem with mms receiving. i hope someone out there can provide the answer.
i have the same problem too... someone out there pls help~!
I have a problem witch is similar to this problem:
when someone send an mms, i just receive an sms witch ask me to see it on the net
i wonder is there any Pull technology to actually "pull" those mms i cannot receive....?
Same problem!
are we asking anything wrong?
some one out there pls help us...!
please help!! clustered, can u help?
Once I tried to reinstall MMS app - helped but not for a long time
Run: \Windows\LoadVDisk.exe
Then go and tap: \Extended_ROM\CAB-MMS20020-Alpine-ENU-21DEC04.CAB
Then You may have to update Your MMS setting (not sure);
If some files can not be overwritten- rename them and retry installer (You may delete them after successful install and soft-reset).
Good luck!
P.S. I would like to find the real reason of this problem!
MMS problem
I have exactly the same problem as "leoking3". Manny users think that MMS is anyway useless and too expensive (me too), but this problem is bigger than it seems.
After I send a MMS the connection does not disconnect completely (on todayscreen connectionsymbol still active but ther is no active connection anymore (you can check this in the connectionmanager). I guess the problem is the inbuilt connection manager who has problems to switch between the MMS-modem connection and the GPRS-modem connection. Pressing the red button for 3 sec. and the connection icon switch back.
But sometimes silently the radio part hang up too. This is not visible for the user because on the display everything seems OK (GPRS icon + Networksignal icon show good connection) . You only realice when you want to dial out, or somewone tries to phone you or if you want to connect to the internet (then you get the errormassage: unable to connect, check connectionsettings).
This happens not only during sending or receiving MMS, but also sometimes when you change your location and book in to a new network cell.
I first thought that its a radioproblem, so I updated to 1.04, but still not working well. The problem is that this is not happening all the time and you can not realice when your phone silently stucks.
Maybe this happens to much more ALPINE users than we guess. But maybe they do not realice the problem. Because when somebody tells them that they where not reachable by mobilephone, they may think that this was because of bad network signal when they are on the road.
My symtomes:
GPRS connection, Send/receive SMS + Email and sending MMS - always possible (except somtemes when radio part unvisibly hang up)
But MMS receiving - ony the first time possible after doing a hardreset. When I disconnect the networkconnection or wait for a while the display lights up for 1 sec. immediatly after I sent myself a test MMS but nothing else happens. But I found out that the radio part is tying to receive something (invisible), because I can hear through the loudspeakers of my Desktop- PC the typical noise when a phone connects to a GPRS network during the reciving process. The MMS never arrives in the postbox. I asked my servicprovider to check. They said that their server realiced the MMS transfer and got a feedback that the massage was sent/received correctly.
I think it is not a question about wrong settings. On my Hermes these settings work well. On the Alpine it works, but only once. Also my servicprovider confirmed that. (Allthough I tryed manny different settings too).
Its also not a problem of other external programms.
I tested (not only once) with a complete clean system (Hardreset and not installing any cab´s in the ext. rom except the MMS-cab and no external programms) without afford.
Made Hardreset, and let the system install the complete ext. rom automaticaly, did not install any other software and tested for two days too. Same result.
Tryed with 3 different SIM cards - same result
Removed STK (Simtoolkit programm) from autostart / Softreset - same result
I updated radio to vers. 1.04 - same result
I did not try to change the ROM jet, but i am afraid that this has no sense because other users have the same problem with different ROM´s too.
I´m so curious about the reason, Is it a hardwarebroblem?
Pleeeeees Heeeelp !!!!!!!
P.S.: To fred92150: Your problem seems to be a different one. When servicprovider sent you a sms means that the sms was not able to submit the MMS. Maybe you use wrong Port (usualy use 9201)

I've got all these symptoms too...
exactly the same!
only can receive mms for once after hard reset!
and the phone silently stucks many times...
i'm sure many alpine users actualy facing the same problem just tat they don't realise it...
pls help! pls help!
anyone facing the same problem???
if u have the solution pls tell us!!
pls help us!!
i already found a solution for the problem...
temporary working for me currently! (i hope it will last!)
i flashed the ROM provide by pug, (THANKS TO PUG)...
i change a bit of the registry and it's now working ok for me!
for the GPRS connections, i added the disconnect and timer for the GPRS Flag.
for the MMS problem i modified the registry:
HKLM\Security\Policies\policies
and change the DWORD value of the 0000100d from "64" to "4095" dec.
i found this registry is actually something to do with PUSH WAP features...
it now working find on my PH10C, i'm able to receive and retrieve MMS and GRPS connection are able to connect and disconnect and then reconnect for many times!(before this it will only allow to connect GPRS for once, i have to soft-reset to reconnect GPRS)
i hope it will help u guys out !
Hi
i am experiencing the similar behaviour, i recieve the notification of the MMS, but when i click to dowload it says cannot download from the server. is this the same thing or do i have a different problem ??
does anyone know how to test the GPRS apn to mayb log the activity incoming to the phone when recieving and MMS?
How can we identify why an MMS is not recieved.
regards
reo
i think u're not the same problem...
try to get the right settings for your GPRS and your MMS...
as long as u can connect to the internet by using GPRS, then ur GPRS settings is ok..
Guys, please go to settings, system, memory, running programs and stop ActiveSync. Bingo! your GPRS connection is working again. Remember of always stop ActiveSync before trying to connect with GPRS.
When ActiveSync is runnig the device assumes that it is the main connection mode at that moment and blocks GPRS.
>connection conflict switching from mms to emails and viceversa
i'm not really sure it's the same problem....
>connection conflict switching from mms to emails and viceversa
(modified from previous version)
Dear All,
emails work fine when i use emails only, and mms work fine if i use only mms,
but each time i send mms and then an email (OR VICEVERSA) and i go back to the first type of message, the software still refers to the last connection and the messages obviously are not sent. So i can use one type of message then the other type, but when i want to use the first message, the connection would use the second message type connection and then i can't sent any: the only solution i have each time is to quick-reset the unit and do all the settings for all the connections from zero (either using the quick auto-configuration file supplied by the distributor or doing the settings manually).
it has always been like that (bought new in jan 2006). according to the distributor everything should work properly as the unit is "perfectly compatible-compliant", so i took it to their service center and few months later they gave it back saying everything is fine... but the problem is still there and the service center has seen the problem is still the same but there's nothing they would do! i can't understand... would you please help me?
please help!
thank you

Activesync 4.5 - Connection keeps turning off!

I have recently reinstalled windows on my computer, and have upgraded to Activesync 4.5 as the other versions are no longer available. When I sync my pda with activesync, I put it in its controller and it syncs email etc... fine.
Then I do something on my desktop and leave it there - I work at home so I want it constantly syncing with my outlook
About 5 minutes after sync, it disconnects, and I have to take it out of its cradle and put it back in again - very annoying!
I am not sure if I have missed some "turn off if inactive for" setting, but I cant work this one out...
hardingt
same problem with me
I also encounter the same problem after I migrate my BA to WM6, any help guys ? thanks++++
same problem
anyone have any ideas?
I've got a similar problem with my hermes.
Funny, my old angel doesn't have this problem tho.
Anyway, try turning off the 'advanced network functionality' and see if that makes it any more stable.
Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC
Other 'fixes' I've seen mentioned are:
Soft reset the phone
Uninstall, reboot, reinstall ActiveSync
Delete the association between the phone and computer, reestablish
IMO, activesync is a nasty hack that needs to be dragged out back and shot. Start with a clean code base, or make it a strictly backup solution with plugins for extra things, like syncing with outlook. That's how Palm does it, and I never had an issue with my old Palm Pilot not syncing.
Problem solved
turning off the 'advanced network functionality' in Settings-connections-USB to PC solved my Activesync 4.5 - Connection keeps turning off problem.
Thanks to jdc
Antivirus
Turn off your antivirus or other security programs . it helped me to connect . I turned off eset smart security on my pc and my BA became connected .

That's another possibility.
when the 'advanced network functionality' thing is enabled, it enabled the RNDIS part, which makes the phone part of a private network that exists between the phone and the activesync program. Any communication to the phone is then done over a 'network bridge' of sorts. If a firewall or other network security program is running and has not been told to allow that traffic, it will block it and the whole thing will not work.
For the record, I downloaded activesync again and did the 'uninstall, reinstall, doo-da, doo-da' dance. After it reapplied some USB hotfixes that I don't recall from the first time I installed it, my RNDIS dropping issues have gone away.
Of course, it would by nice if microsoft would post the version and build number so we know if there has been an update to it...
EDIT: ...and it looks like I spoke too soon. Sometimes the enhanced network function stuff doesn't kill the connection, other times it does. Bluetooth and USB-serial connections are solid. I'm about ready to trash this hack program and find a 3rd party sync application. This is getting st00pid IMO... Grrr...

DirectPush not allowing device to enter standby

Sorry for starting a new thread on this issue but I have verified that the issue of the phone not suspending after x min of inactivity ( Power settings ) is cause by ActiveSync and specifically Direct Push.
If ActiveSync is disabled or the sync schedule is set to manual or every x min, the device goes into standby mode normally as configured by the Power Settings. If set to "As items arrive", the device stays on indefinitely.
Any ideas on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
Again, apologies for bumping this topic.
Noticed something different with ActiveSync when DirectPush is used ( "As Items Arrive" sync frequency ), unlike my previous phone, ( Touch ) ActiveSync show "Connected" to Exchange all the time rather than the last time it sync'ed with Exchange.
Could this be the cause ?
Are you sure it's not an interaction of ActiveSync and some other app? I'm using Direct Push and my phone has no trouble entering standby as configured.
The "Connected" behavior is normal for Direct Push, at least as far as I've seen on WM6. AS opens a connection and never closes it so long as push is active so that the server has a channel back to the handheld. Otherwise, the server can't reach the handheld and you're back into the old "SMS Message" direct push.

Thanks for the reply,
According to the Task Manager nothing is running but Activesync. If I kill AS, the phone goes into standby properly. If I turn it back on I see AS running and it stays on all the time after that with nothing but AS running.
Has there been a ROM update since the Kaiser launch ?
My version is: 1.56.405.5
ROM date: 8/28/07
Radio version: 1.27.12.11
Protocol version: 22.45.88.07H
There are many, many apps out there that run, but don't show in Task Manager. SPB MobileShell, SPB PocketPlus, SPB PhoneSuite are all on my phone and running all the time, but don't ever show up in the task manager. I believe Phone Alarm also "ducks" the TM, among many others. Task Manager is typically limited only to those applications that the system doesn't launch, with AS being the one notable exception.
So while it's logical to think that AS is causing your problem, it's likely something else or something that's interacting with AS to keep the phone awake. As I said, I use Direct Push with a slew of other software and my phone hits standby without any issues.
What else are you running on your phone?

Other that what comes with the phone, I have installed Skype, TomTom, Google Maps and PHM RegEdit. None of these are running however (that I can see )
What can I use to see all the running tasks ?
Thanks
If you can receive an incoming call with Skype when it's not listed in Task Manager, it's running. That'd be the one that I'd test, since it may very well be "hiding out" in the background. TomTom, Google Maps, and PHM RegEdit don't run in the background to my knowledge.
Make a call to your Skype number to see if it comes through. If it does, try removing Skype and seeing if your standby issue doesn't go away. But Skype would need a live connection to receive the call, so that'd by my #1 contender at the moment.

Hey thanks for taking the time to help me out with this issue.
To make sure Skype is not the problem I uninstalled it and restarted the phone. As usual with AS running ( and more specifically with sync settings set at "As Items Arrive" ) the phone does not suspend. If I kill AS or set sync options to x min or manual it suspends properly.
Any other ideas ?
Many thanks again.
'fraid not. You might try deleting the partnership with Exchange and recreating it to see if that clears things up. AS can be very, very odd sometimes, so that might help.
Final post on the subject everyone,
I took the plunge and did a hard reset. Setup ActiveSync with DirectPush ONLY and let the phone sit. It did not go into standby. I killed AS and after 2 min the screen went off. I turned it back on and it stayed on. I switched to AS, changed to sync manually and after 2 min it went into standby. Setting sync to "As items arrive" again and the phone stayed on.
So, from a hard reset I can confirm that AS and DirectPush is the problem.
Thanks eveyone for your suggestions. Perhaps configuration or settings on the Exchange Server side is the problem.

ActiveSync hangs on Orange TyTN II

Subject says it all.
AS works (usually) for a while after reset, but then it just hangs saying "Synchronising" but gets nowhere.
Sometimes killing and restarting AS works, but usually I have to reset the damn thing.
Anyone else having this problem/found a solution? Not sure I'll get any sense from Orange (in fact, I am sure I'll get sod-all sense from them!)
Ferg.
P.S. Got HTC Home, iMate WMP Today, Live Search, Voice Command and many other apps installed. Perhaps it doesn't like Home or so.
More likely its a connection thing.
Try disabling advanced functionality in Start, settings, connections, USB-to-PC
That will make it try a USB connection instead of an IP based one.
Sorry, I should have said I was referring to AS on the device itself - it's Direct Push that's mucked up.
I meant on the device... but that was based on AS with pc
However, if you have an exchange server in the mix, then I would guess it either is losing the connection to the server. What happens if you leave it until it errors? (ie what error code)
Can you sync with the server OK when you do connect with USB to an internet enabled pc?
Well, the funny thing is it doesn't give me an error (or I've not waited the hours required for it to time-out).
The TyTN I have works a lot better under the same circumstances (same Exch, same account, sam SIM card etc, so it would deffo point towards the TyTN II itself.
The only thing left to do, I supose, is to ramp up the Exch logging and see what that says, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope of that.
Thanks for your assistance, unwired.
F.
Ok so its definitely the device...
Do you have signal issues on 3g where you are? Is your network allowing simultaneous voice and data? Have you installed the server certificate OK on your device?
Yeah, all the Exchange stuff is configured correctly - that's my job after all.
No 3G issues (since I use the TyTN from the same place.
Although I did notice recently that I can't actually have adata connection and a call at the same time (with 3G coverage). I guess I should be able to...
F.
sorry to bring up an old post,
having same sort of problem, but only when trying to get attachments. seems to take forever, (5-10 mins stuck on syncing then looks like it gives up) but the attachment is then there, which is crazy as its a 30k word doc which should take seconds.
did you work out any kind of solution?
edit: this is on a clients kaiser

Weird Activesync Issue. Please help.

Whenever I connect my Tilt (Original WWE HTC TYTN II rom 1.56.405.5 and radio 1.27.12.11 flashed on it) I sometimes get Activesync to connect and sync, and other times it just gets stuck saying "connecting" and the activesync icon is spinning and green permanently. In order to get out of that I have to pull the usb plug, but then the Tilt freezes and I have to do a soft reset. Then after that it connects and syncs fine for a few times and then it has the problem again. I have tried it with the "enabled advanced network functionality" checked and unchecked, and still the same issues. Although, I only tried it once with the box unchecked. Also, what I noticed is that when it is syncing and checking for changes on the device, it reads through my "favorites" like two times beofre it says "connected". I have other PPC synced on other computers and they never read completely through the favorites, once or even twice.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

First, a suggestion: Bump your old thread. Don't start a new one!
What other applications do you have running in the background? You said it syncs for a couple of times after soft-reset, so, I am wondering if you have any other applications causing the problem.
Lots of things could be causing your problem. Here are some things for you to try:
1. MOST IMPORTANT: Make sure that you plug your device directly into the computer. Do not plug the device into a USB hub or other device. If you are using a laptop, do not plug the device into USB ports in your docking station. More technically, make sure that the port you are using is a Root USB device, not a Generic USB one. This make quite a difference in Vista, because locking your computer or having a UAC prompt while you are connected to a generic USB device seems to interrupt the connection.
2. Make sure that you have "Advanced Network Funcationality" enabled.
2. Make sure that you have the latest version of ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista). If you are using Vista, the current version is 6.1. This version has some updated drivers that seems to help immensely with stability.
3. If you are using Vista, make sure you have all the latest OS updates installed. There was a Windows Update sometime back in November of 2007 that fixed some serious bugs in the USB drivers in Vista.
4. If you have Windows Firewall Client for ISA installed, do a search on the Microsoft website for possible problems with interactions between ActiveSync/WMDC and the firewall client.
Hope this helps.
Cardyin
In my experience - a year with an 8525 and 5 months with the Tilt - having "Advanced Network Functionality" disabled, gives more consistent positive results when syncing to a PC running XP.
OK.
Sherpa: I have no other applications running in the background. I always close all apps before a sync out of habit.
Also, I am not sure how to bump the thread.
Cardyin: I plug directly into my laptop, don't use a USB hub or anything. I don't have a dcoking station either.
I have the latest version of activesync: 4.5
I am using XP SP2.
I have no firewall.
dgduris: I have tried it both with "advanced network functionality" enabled and disabled, same results.
Thanks for responses
Anyone have any ideas about this problem??
Are you sure you don't have a firewall running? I have a similar problem with ZoneAlarm if I forget and leave the firewall on High security. I have to switch it to Medium security in order for ActiveSync not to freeze up like that.
I am positive, and if it was the firewall, it would do it all the time, not just every four or five syncs.
Anyone else have any ideas??
Anyone at all??
I can't solve the problem but I could advise as to a quicker way to get it synced when it decides to play up.
When mine does the interminable "connecting" business, I click on the "stop sync" button. It usually takes 20 seconds or so to stop.
I then click the "sync" button (same button) and the device always syncs immediately.
I don't know why it does this - and it does it a little too often for my liking - but that solution works for me.
It's a lot quicker than disconnecting and soft resetting too.
1) You say you dont have a firewall... I assume you mean other than the windows firewall. Try turning that off and then plugging it in. If it connects then you know it is a firewall issue. You can manually add the sync apps and ports to the firewall exlcusion list.
2) Try disabling the device lock if you use it. I had a shortlived problem with a pin lock blocking syncing. I disabled the pin, synced and then re-enabled the pin and it worked fine afterwards.
Tried that too...

Thanks Sparrow. I found that out myself before as well. But I am sure there is another way to fix this.

Right, all I have is the windows firewall. I will disable that and try a few syncs.
As far as device lock or pin, I have none setup on my Tilt.
But Thanks for the responses.
Seems like at least one other person is having this issue. See Sparrowhawks post...
Anyone else have any ideas?? I tried the above advice and still not syncing correctly.
I have tried all the suggestions here and nothing is working. I can get the device to sync only about 3 or 4 times, and then it just keeps saying "looking for changes". I have the AT&T Tilt, with the original WWE HTC rom flashed on it. The way I have to get around this is to click "stop" on my PC and then wait abut 2 to 3 minutes for it to stop attempting to sync, and then when I click on "sync" on my PC it connects no porblem. Or I have to unplug the usb cable and soft reset the device, what a pain!
Anyone have any other ideas please?
I just noticed something else that may help identify the problem.
When I connect the usb cable to the device I get a pop up message from my laptop telling me that my wifi connection is connected and signal strength is good. This message is on the laptop, and then the device will not sync and keeps saying 'looking for changes' forever.
