USB will not connect to PC - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I connect the X1 via USB it charges the device but won't connect to either of the PCs I have tried.
I have disabled the Enhanced Activesync connections, changed from AS to external disk & tried the things that I can easily find.
Anyone got any ideas, I don't really want to send it away ?

Does your ActiveSync work?

ActiveSync via Bluetooth - No ActiveSync Port

* Just so I don't get flamed...I HAVE searched the forums AND google AND have tried what they recommend...it just still doesn't seem to work.
I was using a D-Link USB Bluetooth Adapter (until I broke it). I remember at one point in time that I WAS ABLE to run an ActiveSync session via Bluetooth. I have just purchased a Kensington MINI USB adapter (only sticks out about 1/4" so maybe this one won't break.)
I have rePaired my computer with the Tilt, created a port (com5) on my computer, set ActiveSync to use Com5. But when I try to issue a Bluetooth Activesync...it says that it cannot connect beause it's not a ActiveSync Port. Checking the available services shown on the Tilt reported by the PC...shows only Serial Port. I have tried everything I can...remove the Com Ports, replace the com ports, different com ports, remove all pairings, etc. Still cannot get the Tilt to see the ActiveSync service.
I CAN sync via cable...but I just want to cut the cords when traveling. (The less the better.)
I found several google answers that are relevant.
However, depending on the version you use I reccomend you start in Activesync Help. Launch A/S, go to help menu, select "connecting a mobile device to pc", then select "connect to activesync using bluetooth".

i use a BT Dongle to sync with Activesync and was having that same problem. To correct this, i deleted the current sync relationship on both the PC and the PPC. i also deleted the BT Pairing on both the PC and PPC as well. Once that was all done, i repaired the PPC with the PC and it found the Activesync Port. and it works beautifully both via BT and USB Cable.
I hope this helps.

I know that it's probably too late to post this, but I had the same problem just now. What I did is I removed all other USB cables that are connected to my computer and tried to pair again. And viola, I see my activesync.
I'm in the same situation
My mini usb port on the phone charges, but it doesn't connect to ActiveSync. So I went and bought a bluetooth dongle for my laptop & desktop. On my desktop I allowed the OS (WinXP) to install it's drivers. I followed the instructions on the Activesync help and it worked beautifully. On my laptop on the other hand it didn't first with xp driver and then with the drivers included with the dongle I just couldn't set a com port that Activesync could use (it has to be numbered below 20 and all I get is 24 and beyond). To make matters worse the included drivers tend to hang my laptop so no joy.
This dongle's Interlink NANO Bluetooth VP6494 & the drivers are by Toshiba.
Any ideas??!!
This is how I fixed it for me
First I uninstalled the Toshiba BT drivers that came with my dongle. Then I erased the laptop pairing in my kaiser. Then I uninstalled a couple of programs (Motorola phone tools, Samsung Studio & some other for a Sony Ericson) from my laptop. After that I plug the dongle back in, allowed XP to install it's drivers.
After that I was able configure a COM port with a number less than 20 & have been able to sync thru Bluetooth since.
Hope it helps.

Problem to connect to internet via USB

Hi i have problem, that i don't know how to solve.
I'm really new to MDA phones.
I got HTC diamond and i want to connect to internet via USB cable.
I got installed WMDC 6.1
When i plug htc in and make second option (to use cable as file transfer only, internet works just fine, because htc connect through Edge (wich i don't like it to do))
But when pick up choise to ActiveSync internet will not work. Synchronization works fine... everything looks to works fine... file transfering etc. but internet don't work.
(in WMDC i have got checked Allow data connection, when connected to PC, but nothing happened)
(tried almost all combinations in WMDC in connection settings)
so im really desperate, cause i really dont know what to do
Allmost the same problem
I have this to when connecting to my XP pc at home through usb cable.
I am not able to get an internet connection then.
(this is activesync 4.5)
When I connect to my VISTA pc at work, everything works fine, out of the box.
Any suggestions ?

USB problem perhaps PC related.

I have a weird problem with my USB port (I assume it's PC related but...?).
I can connect and sync my kaiser with a std or the HTC USB cable but if I cradle it in the Seidio or connect the 3-1 adapter I get the response "unknown USB device". Strange enough is that NONE of the two is charging. At other PC's it sometimes works, sometimes not. I assume my USB drivers of my Dell Optiplex are toast but how to reinstall...
Well, start with checking to see if under settings------->connections-------->"usb to pc ", the usb to pc option doesnt have " enable advanced networking functionality" checked ( enabled ). That will most times cause issues with activesync connecting and especially prevent USB charging.
Next, check to see if actvesync is set to use USB as an active connection type under its settings.
Delete any previous activesync pairs you may have and try to reconnect. I somehow doubt its your drivers but the best way to check is to just go to Microsoft.com, navigate to their downloads section, and download a new copy of activesync.
One last thing to check. Some roms have a battery option (settings ----------> power-------> battery tab ) that doesnt allow charging when connected to a PC. Make sure that is NOT checked.
Thanks for your reply.
I tried all you mentioned beside uninst. AS clean the PCs reg and reinstall.
Will let everybody know.

Using the td2 for an internet connection for a laptop

I'm trying to set my laptop up to use the td2 to get a connection to the internet. can this be done either via bluetooth wiFi or USB. I have tried to add a bluetooth network connection but the laptop keeps giving an error saying could not connect to the remote device.
When I plug mine into my laptop via USB, I get an option on the device to 'internet share'. Does this not happen for you? I'm not sure whether Windows Mobile Device Center is also needed, but it may be!
I did this today using a Macbook. The USB did not work on the Mac but Bluetooth did. I had to connect to the phone from the computer using ordinary bluetooth first (without network). Then I had to choose Internet Connection on the phone using Bluetooth PAN - which I assume is Bluetooth network. Also had to select Bluetooth PAN on Macbook - was a bit fiddly but it worked. Anyway it does work with USB on the PC see post 16 of the thread here.
cheers both, i will check out the other thread but when I connect the phone via USB to this (work) laptop, I get nothing. My home one uses Vista and Mobile Device Centre, but my work one uses XP.
typically, after a reboot the phone gives of the option to shart internet sharing but the laptop wants to install a rndis connection, but the only way to do this is connect to internet. ironic.
Ok, finally have a proper Interenet connection and downloaded Activesync 4.5 from MS. This looks like it will resolve the situation.

Cannot connect bionic to my new laptop

I have a rooted bionic with blurr3d rom installed. i just got a new laptop, installed the moto driver, tried connecting my phone but laptop cannnot read my phone. I noticed that i dont have the usb conection option anymore(or dont know where to find it)
Any help would be nice...
Can you give some more info, what kernel are you on right now?
Does the phone make any sound or indication that it is connected when you plug it in to the laptop?
If there is a USB connection, there should be an icon on the notification bar and there should be a notification for "USB connection" when you open your notifications. If you select that, it should bring up the usual USB connection menu.
I've heard of some people having issues with connections on USB ports that get low power. On desktops, people generally recommend using the ports on the back because they receive more power, apparently. I've also heard of similar issues on a laptop, though you don't have the convenient option of using another set of USB connections. Most of that has been information I've seen for stuff like flashing something on the device, so I'm not sure if that would be an issue for the basic USB connection.
Try a different USB cable.
