Hi,
I just installed on my HD:
"Dutty's WM6.5 R8 Turbo"
and on my "Himalya" (you remember this oooold XDA2):
"Swampy395_Hima_23001_5_0_60_v1_20"
I couldnt believe what I noticed comparing them in speed.
I didn' do any benchmark but even comparing the scroll speed and smoothness of WM6.5 statmenu -> my Hima is much faster!!! (really smoth while on HD i could notice some hangs)
Could it really be just cause of the higher resolution?
Or is it cause of the different WM versions or anything else?
Is there anything I could do 2 speed up my HD.
(Think Dutty already cooks in the bet2 driver does he?)
Regards
FrEcP
The higer res makes the difference.
So I assume that your old device is QVGA right?
If so than I would expect to be much faster.
Y - think Hima is on 320x240 while HD is 800x480 - I know it's lower a quater of HD
But it's hard, to notice that the HD just can't handle its own resolution
while a !6 Year old! device is fast an smooth with same the system.
Don't turn this into a ROM comparison thread.
i think whats trying to be said here is that the HD seems underpowered for the resolution of the screen...in many respects i agree.
i have a 300Mhz ipaq 2190 running 240x320 and on a 6.5 ROM it is vastly faster and smoother, i was genuinely shocked.
obviously though there are MANY other benefits the HD offers (compared to that device)
but the question is valid...why have HTC released a beast of a device that offers comparatively less performance per pixel (in resolution terms)
or has the best just not been squeazed from the drivers yet??

I certanly hope so. The GL driver is one example.

I'm sorry - but I wanted to know if it's depending on ROM's (versions, settings,...) or just on resolution (and bad drivers).
As really sems to be the resolution/drivers and there are enough performance threads you can close this if you want.
Regards
Sadly noticing my crappy HD performace - but start to love my Hima again more and more (I ever did) *g*

Which software to use?
In my humble opinion: None......for the Qualcomm there is no software availalble to overclock it....but in time it will come...
try this out guys. application specific.
All this seems to be doing is to change the priority of the threads running certain applications. It does not overclock the CPU like OMAP did.
anyway does this work?
or its like the sktools optimization?
Any progress out there on a safe program to overclock a Kaiser? WM6 is definitely faster than WM5, but alot slower than my old Palm OS Treos.
thanks,
d
I'm also waiting for a piece of software that will allow me to overclock my Kaiser, but still there is no progress at all. As they say - patience is gods' virtue (-:
has anyone tried htc performance?
I believe I read helmi had a hand in creating it???I know this has been used on a few different devices and is very low on batti draw but no one quite knows how it works.Really makes a difference on my device but Im not sure if it would be safe to use or even work with the proccessor on the kaiser.
With the battery life as borderline as it is with the Tilt/Kaiser, I'd shy away from overclocking. You'll get lightening fast speed for the 5 minutes of battery life
ya but...
ya but... with the video drivers we're missing and an overclocker the phone would be lightning quick. Also I was reading that the reality is with the right programmers the next gen phones kaiser , dream and a few others a playstation 2 emulator on the ppc would be possible. imagine being on a plane cut off 3g and phone functions and play ps2 games on your phone. plus with extended and/or extra batteries that are now becoming available...
I do not see the logic. The Kaiser is so fast and has so much memory, why would you risk bricking or prematurely damaging your phone? Just my opinion

Glad to learn that my Kaiser is so fast ! I guess you don't use games or heavy graphical applications, because then you would see that the Kaiser is not faster than an HTC Prophet wich is overclocked at only 240 Mhz ! (380 Mhz for the Kaiser...). Also if you want to play VGA videos, the speed is not good enough (wich it should be if you look at the Qualcomm processors capabilities, but as everyone know here, HTC did'nt make the drivers for that).
I am very disapointed by the fact the Kaiser is not a VGA device, but even more disapointed when you see that it is not even faster than a VGA device !!! So at this low speed, where is the interest of having a QVGA screen compared to VGA ?
Definitly, an overclocker tool may help me to consider keeping my Kaiser (even if I think that at this device price, it's a shame to be obliged to overclock it to have a decent speed ...).
The prophet is slower in my opinion, I don't own a Kaiser, but whenever i use it everything happens faster than on my overclocked WM6 Prophet (overclocked to 286MHz normally).
How does the speed compare to the TyTN, mine should be here on Wednesday... I can't wait!
someone found a tool that really works ?
WOW! and I thought we had enough problem threads on here with overheat and battery deaths!
Look out for many more!!
I upgraded to kaiser from a Tmob Wing, for that I played with an overclocker called Fl0wt. Which did seem to work BUT the battery becames a flamethrower of heat and the battery life was sucked away in no time. this wasnt a big clock speed step either. The parts just arnt suited for the additional heat it seems. plus it felt dangerously hot...like "hit the dirt its going to blow" hot. not worth the risk in my oppinion...but hey thats just me
Can you post a link to "Fl0wt" ive searched far and wide and found nothing. Please post a link.
Cheers !

I beg to differ.
I play LOTS n LOTS of games on my TyTN II AND I watch full feature movies and I use Outlook AND I use GPS AND I use internet (Netfront v3.5) and I have yet to find a speed problem as mentioned in this here cheese and whine forum.
Some of the games I have on my TyTN II are:
Cybersaurus
Warfare Inc
Machines at War
Bejeweled 2
Zuma
Ackys XP Breakout
Shattered Worlds
Call of Duty 2
Darxide EMP
gfDoom
Fast Future Race
G-Prime Extreme
Interstellar Flames
Skyforce Reloaded
Quake & Quake 2
Sinbad Return of the Legends
Flux Challenge
Is this a good enough sample for you?
THE KAISER NEVER CLAIMED TO BE A VGA DEVICE. IT IS STRICTLY QVGA....NOW GET OVER IT!!!
I am starting to believe that AT&T roms are fraught with problems.
I don't have that problem here in SA.
My TyTN 2 is MUCH faster than my iMate KJam....MUCH MUCH FASTER!!!
So I don't know what you are referring to.

I have Call of Duty 2 too, and it's really slow on the Kaiser compared to other devices. You should see how it runs on other PPC's...

I have an T-mobile Kaiser and it's definitely not much faster than a Magician. The difference is really, really small.
And we're referring to the fact that there are no drivers for the ATI Imageon hardware. Thanks to this, everything needs to be rendered by the CPU.
Just saw this Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pENEldRxuwQ
and I am amazed at how quick the menus are on the Touch Pro. Why is the Diamond not as quick as this? Does the latest firmware for Diamond make it as quick?
TIA
touch pro has more memory.
Why do you think it is faster than the Diamond ?, I have ROM 193 and it doesn't seem faster at all (and btw, I only have like 20mb of free RAM, kind of shows you how meaningless this whole RAM issue is).
Mine is as fast - no that roms are being fine tuned - using a beta from a cook here i have to say that vid is nothing exciting and my dimaond is wizzing away - i cant make touch flo lag however erratic i use it...
Im sorry to spoil the party but my Diamond is as quick as the one in the Video or maybe even quicker. (all tweaks applied and Cooked ROM)
Im sure the PRO can be even faster after it takes a stroll down to the kitchen!
luck fellassss
so can a similar speed be seen on a diamond with an official firmware or can it only be achieved with a coked firmware? any videos showing the speed of the Diamond UI which is supposedly just as fast? TIA

Maybe, but I doubt it will ever be faster than the Diamond.
Unlike Desktop PCs (and correct me if I'm wrong), WM doesn't use RAM to cache hard drive information, rather all software 100% works from RAM (after it loads there, that is). So, you could definitely load more software to the Pro's RAM, but each individual software won't run any quicker than on the Diamond.
The Touch Pro's name should really be changed to "Fat Diamond".
I have stock ROM .. and my Diamond is as fast as the one in the video ..

I agree.
Im not familiar with the Processor the PRO has but im assuming the Processor is the same on both.
I believe the speed is judged by the MGz in the Processor. So if both carry the same processor they should have same speeds.
IMO I might be mistaken.
With the new ROM and tweaking programs my Diamond is very very fast... I'm very pleased now... and I don't like the HTC Touch PRO because is not that slim like the Diamond wich is on of the ``features`` I like about it.
With Bepe 0.98 ROM, Mine is running a little faster than that
Mine is that fast or faster too, thanks Dutty, and that's with a big pile of crap loaded on by me too.

Actually, there is a setting that can make the diamond cache file system....
when cooked touch pro ROMs manifest themselves, we might see a difference though I'm just looking forward to how much the diamond is going to earn on raphaels drivers and software

Indeed!!!
Besides if you look at PROS desktop pictures you can see a diference in its Manila, its got a diferent Homepage!
Diamond is gonna inherit much of that wealth.
Luck fellas!

Could you tell me what version your stock ROM is please. Thanks
my diamond is on DUtty v1.6 and it's fast! slightly faster than on the video if i have to say?
I get the same performance as in the video with a 1.37 Swedish stock rom.
The only (tempoarary) performance issues I have with TF3D is after I for instance close down Opera or do some other CPU intensive task. It then usually takes a few seconds before the menus are back to being as responsive as usual. But that's it.
I have however applied the standard registry tweaks, but as far as I can remember I did not observe any significant change in performance.

take a look at at my Signature
Hey,
Firstly, I would like to thank all the developers for making efforts to develop a decent rom for the Xperia. I have tried every single one of them.
Unfortunately I couldn't fall in love with any of them.
Somehow I sense that it must me me that is doing something if other older HTC devices seem to be running way faster on customized roms than the experia with so much hardware potential.
Anyone has the same feeling?
Kind Regards
no.
EDIT: For the sake of order: I've used an HTC Trinity before, which was MUCH slower - even with ultra light roms and maximum free RAM. I compared with the TyTn II, which has just awful landscape-switching speed and was overall slower. Compared with the Touch Pro, I don't see any big differences - and if, with slight advantages for the X1.
So, no, I don't think the X1 is slow or not smooth enough. It just depends on what you're running. TouchFlo3D just slows the system down significantly - even on the (original) HTC devices (like Diamond, Touch Pro or Touch HD).
this is the same comments coming everytime there is a new device.
Look at in.ex polaris...ok device, a bit slow. Now it have optimized 2d and 3d drivers, its damn fast compared to what it used to be...but that didnt happen with a snap of our fingers..
we are just in the beginning of working on x1
So please, be as unimpressed as you want.
have a nice day
cheers
Well, one should not forget, that the x1 has 25% more pixels than Diamond or Touch Pro and even 400% more pixels than Tytn II & Co ...
I currently own a diamond and I'm considering a topaz as my next phone. I see that both devices has similar cpu so I'm curious if topaz is actually faster than diamond in any way (graphics / applications / file system)? Did someone actually measured the difference between these two phones?
I'd say buy a hero
But Diamond vs Topaz, The Topaz will benchmark better ;-)
Although there are still some bugs...
I had a Diamond before my Topaz and I can say, the Topaz is better in every way except for size.
The Hero could be a good option for me once the quality (and quantity) of the software written for android reaches the quality of the WM software. Probably after one more year...
I think in pietrucci's benchmark file are some Diamond ROM's. There might be another file in the Diamond forum with his benchmarks. So you can compare directly.
No doubt, it is much faster then Diamond. I have both and a'm very happy with the Diamond2

Yes, look at the threads "Some benchmarking...", both on the Diamond and on the Topaz forum. Benchmarks for lots of ROMs, stock and cooked.
Topaz is much faster...
over and over again I face the fact, that some games and apps don't run as smooth as the seem to run on other devices, sometimes even less powerful than x1 (according tothe feedback of other users).
That's why I'm asking myself the question why it is that way.
Is the stock rom so ****ty or is there any other fundamental factors that affect the performance of my phone? Is there probably a guide for tuning the phone for its top performance, perhaps I missed something in configuration?

lol, if you compare the X2 with X1, then it is even slower!!!
(http://www.glbenchmark.com/compare.jsp?benchmark=glpro&showhide=true&D1=SonyEricsson X1i XPERIA&D2=SonyEricsson X2 XPERIA Vulcan)
But I don't trust it anyways because how can integer and floating point calculation differ so much, if it is the exact same core (except the X2 core was clocked down)??
guess driver could cause that as the x1 they tested would of cause be offcial 6.1 rom
and the x2 the maybe prereleased 6.5
thanks but prolly any tweaks except xperia tweak that can help to get max of the device?
AFAIK, best thing you can do is to find fast rom.
About performance: compared to other windows mobile devices is not so slow. In some tests is even faster than HTC HD/TP2.(CLICK)
prollz you get me wrong. All that benchmarks are neat and nice, I'm just asking what can be actually done to configure X1 to get the maximum performance out of it.
also check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459328
thanks, gonna try it out once more. But afair sd tune up isn't needed with the r3aa rom, is it?
