Installation Error Help a guy out

Sorry for posting here no one is being helpful in Q & A
ok so
I've just rooted etc
Now im installing DrizzyJac 2.7.3 sym/bind apps2sd
And i checked the ext file systems
They were ok, Then i wiped, then flashed but about half way done flashing it tells me error at line 58???
So should i redownload the rom again then try to reflash or what??
EDIT: OK i just redownloaded the rom
it still gives the error
Failure at Line 58

installion aborted
So whats wrong should i reformat my sd using parted again

No, you need Haykuro's Special SPL, The eng. or HardSPL will cause a failure at line 58 because there is not enough internal space left for Hero with the other SPL's.
Just do a search for Haykuro's SPL and make sure to follow the directions EXACTLY!) Mainly make sure to flash the radio FIRST BEFORE THE SPL or you will permanently brick your phone.

I had the same issue initially and I had to reflash the SPL twice before it finally "took"

CyanogenMod install thread?

Is there a thread anywhere for the installation of CyanogenMod specifically? I am afraid most of the threads of instructions are for Hero based roms. I am wondering if I need to partition my SD first,and what partition sizes and types. Also wonder if I need new radio and SPL for his ROM, and when to install the 1.4 recovery.
Basically confused with all the different guides for so many ROMs, and many assume the phone is already rooted and running a hacked ROM.

you can install the recovery whenever you want.
partitioning sizes are based on your card size, i have a 4gb with 500mb ext3, the rest is fat32. i wouldnt go past that but ive seen a couple people with a gig. i just think its a waste, im starting to think my 500 is a waste honestly.
flash the radio THEN the spl, then the rom. cyanogen i believe uses bind mounts. you wont have to set up anything, itll do it all on its own as long as you have a ext2/3/4 partition set up CORRECTLY.

No need to flash the new SPL.

No SPL? So all I need to do is follow instructions to root the phone, partition my SD and flash Cynogenmod ROM? I have an 8 gig SD on its way class 6.
The root directions at the link state to only format the SD as fat "Format your phone's SD card to FAT32 mode", but you mentioned partitioning with a ext partiton and a fat? No swap partition required?

Yup just root partition, flash radio and flash cyanogenmod. No need to flash new spl. Hard spl is fine.

yes you have to have an ext partition. cyanogens roms have an auto apps2sd built in. you dont have to do anything BESIDES partition it to get a2sd to work on it.

No need to flash new spl. Hard spl is fine.

So is Hard SPL already on the stock phone? Sorry to sound the TOTAL noob, but your first line states that all that is needed is the new radio and CynogenMod, then you mention the flashing of SPL. Is there a "best" SPL? Not sure what the SPL is.

No, Hard SPL is not included in the stock phone.

Getting app_s --> ext2 helpp

Ok.. ive been on a mission to install the hero UI on my g1.
my phone is rooted, has the latest SPL and RADIO.
I flashed the hero rom and it worked.. yet there was nothing on the home page. Although if i hit send to dial, or shut the screen off it comes back locked, and gives me the dial pad. im assuming that was becuase of the no app_s on my ext2. right...?
i tried the ADB push, the ubuntu linux... it DOES NOT HAPPEN FOR ME!
(also cant install apps2sd on my phone for whatever reason)
could ive searched and searched this site with no direct answer, and no success.
If somebody could please walk me thru getting app_s to my ext2 via terminal,CP, something.. or even get apps2sd to work and ill do it 1 by 1.. IDC!

apps2sd happens automatically with the newer ROMs. You don't need to do anything except have properly set up partitions for it to take effect. What size is your ext2 partition and is it the 2nd partition on your card?

fat 32 - 1gb
ext2 2nd partition - 700mb
and yes, the card is properly partitioned

I don't know if it matters, but I think ext2 is supposed to be first?

Fat32 should be first, and both fat32 and ext2 should be set as primary.

What hero rom are you trying to load? You shouldn't have to appy app_s to the ext partition. But the easiest dummy proof way of moving it would be to boot into ubuntu and you can just copy and paste.

ubuntu WILL NOT! let me copy ANYTHING to my EXT2 partition.
It says i dont have the permissions to copy things to my card on ubuntu?
Even though it recognizes the partition.
And YES, BOTH PARTITIONS are set as primary

how do you upgrade to a new radio and spl?

Hey guys I want to go from cyanogen mod to kings hero..I've searched and read threads, bhut I still have questions...I am on CM 4.1.11.1 I have hard spl...I have a 512 mb I think it's a ext 2 parttition, but I'm not 100% sure...
1. Do I need to format my ext and my sd card before installing the new radio and spl?
2. what's the simplest way to add a linux swap partition and shoukld this be done before or after installing kings hero?3. Is there anythiing else I'm missing here?

I am planning on installing king's hero btw...I have read both of those guides... What I still don't understand is, how to I make a 96 MB linux swap..do i wipe first and format my sd card and ext partition? if so, how? ALso, should i install the radio, then linux swap, then rom then spl? if not what order..thank you very much!

Read the partition guide. The only order you need to be sure of is you flash the radio before spl.

apps2sd question

i searched for this and came up with some links, but none to verify my exact question which is, do i need a certain ROM, or recovery image, i have the RA-dream-V1.5.2. to apply apps2sd, i am currently running the latest cyanogen ROM, do i need a sd card reader or can it be done just by using terminal emulator, and i just bought a 4gb class 6 from new egg, and i was wondering what do you guys recommend for my ext2 partition space to be? so if you guys have any info on this it would be great if you threw it my way thank you!

Most rom have it enabled automaticlly when it sees an extX partition. The recovery is not required, but helpful if you don't have a linux system or other software to create the partitions on your computer. No card reader is required unless you want to format it that way. The only terminal commands you would need would be in the recovery console for you. The space is up to you and your needs and does not increase or decrease performance either way.

If you plan on using a hero rom put in something for swap, if not put zero. The put in the amount of ext you want for apps. (normally between 256-512)
To upgrade the file system from ext2 -> ext3 use the command upgrade_fs in the recovery console.
Look at the link I gave you and scroll down to the Amon_RA section if you need more help.

so to make sure i did it right, how much available phone space should i have?

It varies based on the cache you have for the apps, but I have 68mb but I have been running the same rom for a while. It should be around 80mb if you haven't done anything to build the cache, but I have the 1.33.2005 SPL which increases the internal memory size.

I get the same error "upgrade_fs not found" when I want to upgrade to ext 3 from console. From Amon_Ra's recovery I get an error too when I want to upgrade to ext 3. The other SD card I have worked perfectly with exact the same steps. What is wrong? Thanks

if you amon's isnt there an option that says upgrade ext2 to ext3? i guess thats the same?

I get an error when I press "upgrade ext2 to ext3" on my 2 GB card, the 1 GB card is done already.
