Anetshare & cyanogenmod builds - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it just me or anetshare tether app does not work with cyanogenmod builds I tried with all his builds including the spinning the the wheel of death build. The only tether app that works with his builds is wireless tether for for root users. I really don't like the ui for that app. Is there a fix for this or am I just going to have to deal with it like I always have ever since leaving the JF builds.

i never used anetshare but cyan in his OP did recommend people use the wireless tether app..not sure if this is the only app that works on his build or maybe the app is broken..dont really know thats just what i think..

[Q] Wiimote Controller on Tab?

Please forgive my ignorance, I'm completely new to the Android world. Has anyone been able to root a tab to allow Wii controller access?
Searched multiple forums but could not find a definitive answer.
Thanks!
I've rooted mine, and actually thought about trying the wiimote app again. (I used it on my Nexus 1)
I'll give it a shot...
It doesn't work. I'm guessing for the same reason the Galaxy S phones won't work with it either, the bluetooth isn't compatible.
I confirm also that it doesn't work. I've tried 2 different wii controller apps. And my galaxy is rooted. It just won't sync.
Yeah I tried em both also. I'm sure the BT hardware is the same on the Tab and the SGS phones, and they don't work either. I was very disapointed when I couldn't use this after switching from my N1 to my Captivate.
10-4 thanks for giving it a shot.
One of the developers of one of the apps says it's to do with TouchWiz. Sounds more likely to be a software issue than a hardware blutooth issue, which means it could be fixed or hacked Hope!
similar issues on my T-Mobile tablet; I tried to connect a Wii controller to my tab and the wiimote app keeps telling me to enable bluetooth.
i can confirm it works well on archos 101 but not on tmo gtab
im hoping they patch this im looking forward to using it for gaming

Me to, with a hdmi out cable and a couple of wii controllers. The tab could be a neat little mini mobile gaming system. Hopefully with 2.3 or 3.0 we'll get that support. But then again I don't even know if the hardware can support a wiimote.

Any news on this? I was really hoping to play mario on my galaxy tab? : (
Anyone know of any other controller for android?
I also still waiting on some news.
Having brought Snes,Nes,Gba, psx emulators on my tab I dieing for some news.
I thought is was do to with the bluetooth stack used by Sammy?
Yes, I believe you are right about the bluetooth stack. I think our most likely option right now is to wait for the cyanogen roms to be completed for our tabs.

Would like this to happen also.
I poked around with the Wiimote and the Tab last night and it looks like L2CAP support is needed in the kernel before this will work. I haven't built a kernel for an android device yet, so I'll leave it to the chefs to build it in.

I hope we can alter what ever needs to be altered in order to uses a WiiMote with the Samsung Tab.
Seeing that the Dell streak 7 doesn't have Hdmi out, this tablet still really is my only chance of having real Gaming emulation on the go without adding much bulk!

WIFI Analyzer and non-sense roms

First I want to thank the devs for their work. Without you guys we would not get to enjoy the many flavors of "Frozen Yogurt" on the Slide.
I have used CR_Mod and 3rd Sense longer than any other roms. The reason? Because WIFI Analyzer works on those two roms. The app has been useful when performing quick and dirty wireless network tweaks on the job. The issue I run into with all of the other roms on the Slide is that the device cannot detect what channel the network is broadcasting on.
Again, this only happens on non-sense froyo roms (as far as I can tell... have not used non-sense 2.1). Does anyone else use this app? If so, have you run into this issue? My fear is that it is driver related, and official source froyo for the Slide will be necessary to fix it.
Anaway, please chime in... even if it is to tell me I'm th only nerd that uses this app.

I have not tried using it yet, but I am running the latest CM nightly (212). I could test this out tonight when I get back from the office. Have you already applied the CM Wifi Fix?

Thanks for checking it out, fermunky. I actually did try the wifi fix. My wifi worked fine before (with this small exception). Same thing after the fix. It's not that big of a deal. More of a convenince than a necessity, as my wifi works fine otherwise. It is a sad indicator of the slow htc espresso development, however.

Well, as mentioned I can try it when I return home. My company heavily enforces the rule of using absolutely no wifi in our building, and I like my job Is the app just Wifi Analyzer in the market for free?

Well, not sure exactly what you're looking for, I chose to view the Channel Rating, and selected my AP. Strangely, it says Current Channel: 0 and of course no rating, but it does list all 14 channels and their respective ratings. Anything specific you want me to try?

That's the problem I was pointing out... "Current Channel: 0". The reason it stood out to me was because when I go to an office and want to quickly check the network I have no idea what channel its broadcasting on. Of course its not that big of a hassle to open my laptop, but when I switched to non-sense roms it was annoying. Glad to know its not just my device. I just flashed the the 3rdSense update and now it works perfectly (shrugs shoulders).

Glad I could help. I am running CM6 nightly 212 with the Wifi fix mentioned earlier, just for reference.
I should also mention though that the wifi fix doesn't appear to have helped any. But at the same time, I am using the standard Linksys wrt54g, thats about 4 years old now, so probably time for an update/upgrade.
I ran into this problem yesterday. All features of wifi analyzer work except channel listing!
It's aggrevating to say the least.
Sent from my Rooted T-Mobile Mytouch 3G Slide using the XDA Developers App!
I can confirm this problem exists on CM7 build 8. I also miss Wifi Analyzer, but I haven't really needed it for months, I almost forgot about this problem.
Finally, found a thread with the problem I'm facing! Good lord, I've spent days trying combinations of search terms that would net something other than endless pages of how to change the channel of an AP.
Anyway, any update on this issue? I'd really like to optimize a couple networks and Wifi Analyzer would be really helpful if only it could tell me what channels all these networks are on!
I've tried cmod 7.1 RC1 as well as 7.0.3, and have updated the radio to the latest 7.15 (if that's even still the latest), but still no channels being read.

[Q] Suggestions on a new phone for tethering the NC?

Been on Verizon for several years without problems. Have used several types of phones up to now (Motorola Krave ZN4). As the NC most likely will not enjoy the benefits of 3G (or 4G) the logical solution is phone upgrade to allow a good consistent tether when WiFi is unavailable.
So, any suggestions based on experience on type/brand/model phone compatible with Verizon service? What to look for? Tethering protocols?
thanks
Any phone with Android+root+Wifi+adhoc support should work. just choose if u need 3g or 4g.
basically what he just said. I have a Droid 1 and (with a "fix") am able to tether no problem with it, and that's the first android 2.0 device. I know Droid X works fine, and any other android really should work fine as long as its, as he said, rootable (basically) 4G will cost you more monthly (I think 10 more) but is faster, 3g is good enough IMO.
Any will do, I use an evo but they all get the job done
how about iphone4?
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA App
iphone4 would work, but it would also need to be rooted/jailbroken, and the iphone community is different from android, everything costs money (including tethering apps) and it's not as free for all happy sharing open...
Tethering from the iPhone4 can be done without needing to pay anything, and that is through bluetooth. But..:
Iphone may already work through PAN/Bluetooth, with a few commands (automated through gscript?). But current kernels do not allow DUN connections.
Thus, tethering from an iphone4 using bluetooth/PAN only allows browser app and a few other apps (gmail?) to connect to the internet.. For a complete connection, you would need DUN. I think it has already been requested. But of course, this isn't a priority for kernel devs at the moment.
Of course, as it's been said, you can always choose to jailbreak and pay for a wifi/hotspot app. That would work.
Sam
I ordered my NC today! I'm waiting for it... what I need to tether my nexus one to NC? N1 is rooted as well... is it necessary to get adhoc fix on NC? I heard some user here saying it is not necessary but I found a thread related to adhoc fix...
Thanks!

PS3 Controller for Android Devices

I know XDA has a handful of threads in other parts of the forums talking about this app. Just letting everyone know that I works for me (I am running AOSPTheory/CM7). I do not know if it works with other roms, so if you try it, let us know!
First Link is the DEVS website
Second Link is to the marketplace, it's a compatibility checker
Third Link is the actual app that you need to pair your phone and controller.

EDIT: Seems like it is NOT working with sense roms!
No go on SkyRaider Zeus Preview
Just letting you know it doesn't work right now on the new Gingerbread SkyRaider Zeus Preview. Can't wait for it to be supported. Looks pretty sweet!

PS, anyone with an Asus Eee Pad Transformer, it works with that too
Tangentially related, but anyone running AOSP / CM7 been able to use their phone as a text entry device for PS3? Seems like they don't like to talk to each other over bluetooth - I make the phone discoverable for 5 minutes, and my PS3 just sits there scanning for devices 'till the cows come home
AOSP Bluetooth stack will work. Sense will not. Samsung tablets will not. It would require someone porting the bluetooth stack and considering no one has done it, I would guess it would be hard.

That is the app I am trying as well. Wondering if I should back up my save games and just do a factory reset. I may have tried it once in the past and aborted the process for some reason and it caused it to hiccup and not be able to pair up again.

Hmm seems as if it doesn't work with sense roms yet. Ill edit my op to list this

[Q] tab wont pair with wiimote or sixaxis

Has anybody out there successfully paired a bluetooth controller (either sixaxis ps3 or wiimote) with sprint galaxy tab? No problem pairing with my droid x, so I know how to pair, why is galaxy tab bluetooth so different?
As I understand it, Samsung created a half-baked Bluetooth stack for the Galaxy Tab, which doesn't support a lot of profiles.
I think the only way to get this working on the Tab would be to run a build with better Bluetooth support. I seem to recall someone saying in the CM7 thread that Wiimote works if you flash CM7. Now that we also have MIUI, I wonder if it might work there.

Thank you so much for the info. Unfortunately i have a sprint tab without their service (i only use wifi on it anyway) and reading in the forums as of yet it seems any rom (i have found anyway) seems to bug out the wifi so i am very leary of flashing until i see confirmation of it working... As of now i dont want a paperweight, as i am new to rooting/flashing and am not schooled in android programming. Again thank you so much at least now i know there is a way to fix this bluetooth issue. (i guess now i know why my bt headphones wouldnt pair either, thought they were just cheap)
Well i tried CM7 and it does work, i was able to pair PS3 controller just fine!!
The problem is that i dont like CM7 very much, if we were able use CM7 BT protocols on overcome it would be perfect

Thank you BloodyViper I am so excited for OldMacNut's MIUI build he and his team are working on. I did just see on the thread that he might have to sell his tabs to get through a rough time he is having. Since I can't post on his thread yet can someone let him know that I am looking forward to his build and I will pray that he gets through his rough patch?
Under MIUI are you still having market issues?
I so want Sixaxis support for my Verizon SGT, This is the only thing I really care about My gf hates touch interface for gaming and so do I. If I can get my controller working, she can play Spyro and I'll be a happy man!

No, market app for now works fine the only downside is the batterie drain, but for me that is not really a issue. If you have a good voltage control app you can undeclock to portability and when you want to play you can overclock.
