Is my Diamond bricked? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi, I´m new to the forum and to the Diamond world also, but I will try to make myself as clear as possible.
A friend just gave me a DIAM100 phone with WM6.1, in Danish. I read on different forums on how to change the ROM to change the language to English.
I tried to install a whole bunch of ROMS but nothing quite worked (my computer kept on saying everytime that, the software couldn´t be updated).
I then tried to install a Kaiser ROM (without knowing that it wasn´t fit for my phone at the time). The progress bar went, for once, through the 100percents but then my phone turned off (the battery was full).
Since then, the phone won´t turn on again, tried all the tips and tricks found on other sites (hard reset, battery removal, etc...). The problem is that my computer doesn´t even detect the phone anymore when plugged into. So I cannot even boot the phone from my CPU.
Is my phone really bricked? Is there a trick that I missed that could help me right now?
Cheers!

Did you install Hard-spl before you start flashing ????

No I did not.

I then tried to install a Kaiser ROM (without knowing that it wasn´t fit for my phone at the time)

R.I.P your Diamond !!!

Indeed...
Make sure you fully research the update procedure before attempting such things; this is the perfect example of what not to do

Can you not even get into Bootloader?
Hold down the Volume-down key and the Power button, then press (and let go of) the RESET button with your stylus

Hard Reset not working?

Today I got my Kaiser back from repairs. I got my mainboard replaced because of connection issues. It came back with it's original 'software'.
After installing Hard-Spl (white screen edit) I successfully flashed "Dutty's Official WM6.1 5.2.19209 Release" to my Kaiser.
I wanted to Hard Reset my device using the soft-buttons and soft-reset method, but it seems to be broken (?). I managed it in the past (before flashing and repairs) but for some reason it doesn't work anymore. Soft-resets and Bootloader mode still work.
Anyone got an idea?
Thanks in advance
P.S.: In the meantime I hard-resetted my device by going to Settings => System => Clear Storage

Few Tricks, Make sure you are not plugged in USB. Make sure you are not "fat fingering it." Some people use chopsticks to be sure. And Hold it for long after the Screen goes Black.
Believe me, I've already tried the things you said.
Although I successfully mananged in the past to hard reset my phone, I checked the threads and the following vid:
How To Hard Reset Kaiser:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZPzT_L2FZQ
Usually I am the problem, but this time I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Just wondering:
Which part of the Phone (ROM) is in control of the Hard Reset part? (e.g.: Bootloader, Radio Rom, Regular Rom,...)
Use "Clear Storage". It does the same thing.
Also, JM is most likely correct. It is most likely an issue of how you are pushing the buttons. Make sure you hold only ythe soft keys first, using your fingernails, then push the reset tab on the bottom & hold it. Don't just push the reset & release, but keep it held down.
Based on your previous message about your phone being haunted - mine is too btw, I think it's because the soft buttons aren't being acknowledged by the OS - which implies some REAL big problems.
I took mine back to the T-Mobile store today where I got told that it needs to be sent back to their workshops to fix it... and then got told that "mostly they just send out a new phone".
My phone is exhibiting the following symptoms.
1) Green and Red phone buttons do not work.
2) Soft buttons do not work.
3) D-Pad and wheel work intermittently.
4) (and most strange) the back-space key on the slide out keyboard does nothing, and on the virtual keyboard it flashes (to suggest that the key is being pressed) but still does nothing.
I've tried to access the bootloader, and perform a hard reset. I'm now looking for the original T-Mobile ROM to install (which was why I went into the shop), as the issue around the backspace key implies to me that the issue is in the OS not in the hardware.
Jon
Thanks already for all the input.
I've been trying all weekend in every different possible way to perform a hard reset. Fat fingering is really no possibility anymore. I've used every possible tool I had (needle-nose pliers, chopsticks, pens,...) to eliminate fat fingering.
But nothing helped. Jon (a nice guy) might have given a possibly correct diagnosis for my problem. But it wouldn't explain why I still can get into the bootloader.
Problems since receiving my phone from repairs:
Backlight changed out of itself => performed Hard Reset
Phone pad pops up and seems to start dialing => flashed new ROM
Wakes up constantly after a few seconds from standby => performed Hard Throw against the wall
As you can see, my latest problem is that the phone automatically wakes up from standby after a few seconds. The weird thing: it only does this when I put it in standby, but it doesn't wake up if it enters standby by itself.
=> NOTE: This may support the 'fat finger'-theory: the Kaiser gets some sort of keyboard input due to faulty hardware. Therefore I cannot Hard Reset my device, because of the additional faulty input.
I've used the "Clear Storage" method to perform one of my hard resets, but this has to be solved. I will be sending the phone back for yet another repair.
Thanks again for your input everyone.
Problem found?
I think I found the problem:
I just noticed that the camera button is already pushed in halfway (like when you focus the camera before you take a picture). If I push the button gently, it immediately takes a picture without focussing (it does automatically focus before taking the shot, but not on my command).
Also, when I enter the camera app, it sometimes instantly focuses. Other times I cannot focus at all.
Hard reset is still no go.
Yet another thanks for your useful help.
Maybe found the solution?
Hi Guys...
I found that by tapping the base of the phone, it "unlocks" itself, thereby making it work. It's become *S*L*O*W* as hell, and I'm really tempted to ask them to take a look at it, but right now I need all the functions, so I'm holding off.
But, give that a try and see what happens!
Jon
Thanks for still answering my question. Go community!

Last week I finally received a fully functional and working Kaiser (have been waiting for that since december...). I couldn't accept a disfunctional Kaiser coming back from repairs.
The problem did indeed seem to be the camare button that was stuck. I tried really hard to get it to unblock, but I didn't work. I must say, I didn't try your method (didn't think of it).
Still thanks a lot.
I am experiencing exact same issues on my Kaiser (Tilt), it randomly starts to type stuff in the phone application on its own and I can't do anything to stop it, I have replaced ROMs, SPLs, Radios, now using a shipped rom with shipped radio but still that problem comes up after a few days of usage and doesn't go away until I hard reset, anyone knows what I can do to fix it? it's probably out of warranty. I checked the camera button and it seems fine.

PC crashed during flashing, recovery!

Hello
Ive finally got round to putting new radios and ROM on my diamond, a year after buying. Didnt want to before now incase i cocked it up (theres a lot of things to remember!)
Hard SPL went fine and i was putting the new radio on (1.00.25.05 in this case) when, at about 80% of the way through the install my pc froze (as its having a habit of doing at the most awkward times recently!)
I soft reset the diamond but now its at what i assume is the bootloader screen (?), its got red, green, blue and white bars and various writing, along with a message saying 'Upgrade ROM code error Please try again'
I had a hunt round and found something for another device saying how to get it back by loading a factory ROM through the bootloader menu but i dont know how to do this as i dont have a connection to activesync (phone wont go beyond this screen) etc.
If someone could explain in relatively simple steps it would help!
I should also clarify that the only way i can get this screen off is to remove all power but as soon as i put power back on it loads up direct to this screen again!)
When you device is in bootloader mode, you dont need active sync connection. just run the update utility and it will work without it, as it uses different drivers when connecting.
This turned out to be quite easy actually, i stumbled across the answer somewhere else!
Thanks for the help

Stuck in bootloader + no sync = big problem

I've two problems which lead into one big problem.
First im stuck in the bootloader mode. Every time I start the Qtek 9090 it's in bootloader mode (btw it says v2.06 on the bottom). When the reset button is pressed the normal WM 2003SE should start, but there's always the bootloader. I've tried reset, hard reset and camera+power+reset. This problem exists since I used EnterBL.exe, when I used camera+power+reset, I were always be able to get back in the normal mode. I read suggestions how to solve this problem, but they contain ActiveSync. This leads us to the second problem.
I'm not be able to establish a ActiveSync (V4.5) connection when the BA is in bootloader mode. It worked perfect in Windows 2003SE. In bootloader mode the BA says "USB" on the display and XP shows the device in the device manager (I hope that's the English name, it's just a translation from the German name), but ActiveSync doesn't find a device.
I've shriked extrom to 128 KB, because I wanted to upgrade to Win 6. Maybe that's necessery infomation.
I hope someone has the answer for my little problem, because my mobile phone is currently just a expensive paper weight.
welcome to the forum!
no, it's not an "expensive" paperweight.
let me please first say, stop messing around in the device manager (yes, that is the correct name), everything is just fine, it is normal that it does not connect as usual!!!
you are exactly where you should be, and apparently you already read about how to basicly get to wm6. ok, let me explain...
since you already your extrom space, you are ready for upgrading, and that is what the bootloader is for. of course you don't start the bootloader and try and reset again, the bootloader is for opening ports to access the rom, which, otherwise would be rom=READ only memory.
another thing is, the "serial" changes to "usb" when cradled. that is no problem, that's perfect.
you are now at the point where you take the rom (nk.nbf file) and put it in a folder containing the RUU (rom upgrade utility, basicly a bunch of files named maupgradeut_noid, enterbl, getdevicedata and so on, you know where to find those apparently )
and start the maupgradeut_noid, then the rom flashing begins. after it is done, you simply perform a hard reset, but not the old fashioned way (power+reset). wm5 and above use another hard reset.
you have to press power+reset and then quickly press camera+record to access a boot menu, then you use the camera and record button to switch the options in that menu to say the following:
clear registry hive: YES
format storage: YES
enable kitl: NO
then you confirm that by pressing the mail button, your screen turns white and after a short time you are done, and wm6 will start for the first time!
have fun!
with best regards
Chef_Tony
Thanks for your effort, now it seams that think are not so bad as I thought.
I did all the steps, but I was uncertain wheater maupgradeut_noid worked right, because the program didn't show the versions of the mobile phone's software. So I thought it wasn't correctly detectet.
So it's normal that these informations are not shown by the program?
After these incidents I'm a litte bit afraid bricking my beloved BA.
that depends, my upgrade utility never showed any information on the "from" side, just the version of the rom i was going to flash, and it is fine, for some people it seems to show all the information after killing active sync first by opening the pc's taskmanager, and kill the wcesmgr and wcescommmgr processes, i can't confirm the file names though, as i have wmdc because of windows 7, but you should be able to find the active sync related processes yourself. maybe after killing them, you have all the information there.
if there is no information at all, then something went wrong and you should start playing around until you find something there again. but even if flashing wasn't successful, you would realize that, because it would be awfully fast, and nothing would have changed to your device, or it would be formatted, but nothing bad like "bricking" would happen there, you can always re-flash the device, and if you actually got stuck in bootloader, which is totally different from your situation now, you would still have ways to get the device back to life, but that is very unlikely and you are right to ask first, but you are fine so far.
You made my day!
It worked just as you said. Now I've a proper running WM 6.
Thanks to Chef_Tony and the other people putting their effort in the community.

Really KILLED my Blackstone!

Hello Mates!
Yesterday, i did some experiments with my hd...
I security unlocked it and tried to install a modified(by myself) Topaz-Radio.
Now the device is DEAD.
It stucks in the "Smart mobility"-screen.
I can NOT GOT TO BOOTLOADER anymore. When i Press VolDn + Power, it does absolutely nothing. Trying to Hard-Reset the Hd results in Vibrating three times and nothing more.
Just turning it in or soft reset, results in the "Smart Mobility Screen Stuck"
I think i have to send it to HTC and hope they fix it for free ;-)
Any other ideas anyone? I think i really made it to brick my Hd...

bricked!! i just hope you still have warranty and was your rom from stock?
sending it back is the only solution
try harder to get into the bootloader
as long as the display still shows something, you have good chances to bring it back

Of course i did, but i even cant get into bootloader. the phone doesn´t even start with volDn + Power/reset.
And the PC doesnt recognize anithing, so o can´t flash via USB.
i think i killed the bootloader somehow?! ;-)
Greets, Tommy
what about BLACDIAG
Blacdiag also doesn´t work, because i cannot acces bootloader!
BUT: its possible to hardreset now(i just didn´t push the volDn hard enough before!!) when i perform a hardreset(VolUP+VOLDN+Reset or Power) i can see the bootloader for a second, the i can hardreset. hardresetting takes about 10 seconds, then after restart(volUP) its again stuck in "smart mobility"-screen.
pressing volDn+power or reset doesnt have any effect, the mobile still does NOTHING-no vibrating, no turning on-nothing...and after that, i have to take out the battery to start it again(power only or Hrardreset)
the bootloader is still here(olinex 1.56), i just can access it.
IST THERE A POSSIBILITY TO GET FROM THE HARDRESET-CONFIRMATION-SCREEN BACK TO BOOTLOADER WITHOUT A RESTART?
i ithink it hates me for getting flashed nearly three times a day
thanks to all, Tommy
If you can hard reset, right when it asks for reboot, the screen goes blank, quickly hold the volume down button only... hopefully it will get you into the bootloader...
Good luck...
you said that the plastic has gone on the vol dn button, what does it look like where the plastic used to be , is it orange plastic looking of can u just see a metal contact?
when your device hangs when booting or cannot even get into bootloader just send in your device to service center
@James62370: Already tried this. for some reason, it doesnt work-same reaction like i try to (volDn+power). it just doesnt start up, the screen keeps black.
@sgilesuk: cant see orange plastic, i think it is the copper of the contact, look at the, very bad, pic
@technician-2s i´m afraid, that i will have to do this, but i thimk they will not fix it for free :-(
thanks to all again
Have you tried to return device to orginal stock rom, i.e. rom which was on device when you bought it.
You don't need to be in bootloader or have phone sync'ed to flash this rom. It doesn't even need to say 'usb' in bootloader. Only works with original rom though
yes also tried original rom, the problem is, that my computer doesn´t recognize the device.
thx, tommy

Had the same problem yesterday.

I took of SIM-Card and Storage Card tried to get into bootloader but nothing happened.

i doubt the phone is unfixable had mine in some bad states before so fingers crossed everything works for you
ok with how you have it at the moment you have to be really specific with pressing the Vol down button make sure you press in the centre where the black dot is, you should be able to feel the difference between bein pressed and not pressed, should still feel like a button.
My button is one step worse then yours i dont even have the orange bit there for the button, just the metal contact underneath and i can still get to bootloader . just have to use a bit of chewing gum wrapper to make the contact on the volume button
someone always makes a bad mistake.
Do NOT hold the power key for long, just one single press.
to all:
many, many thanks for your hints and tips. unfortunatetly none of them worked, because i can´t acces bootloader(tried nearly 200 times). also my pc doesn´t recognize the device(win7 or XP), tried lots of cables and alternative drivers.
now i´m using my girlfriends hero and get my hd to repair-center, hope it will not get too expensive.
@bulldog: lesson learned? I will do it again and again and...before my first WM-phone(trinity), i killed several nokias and siemens-phones
next time i will be more careful and listen to warnings of the pros --> lesson learned

diamond 2 strange behaviour

hi guys
got my htc diamond 2 yesterday. it's nto branded and it's not locked. it has a 6.1 windows on it. tried to do a hard reset but it did not work :| (took sim out and battery)
anyways...
as you imagine, I wanted to instal a nice ROM, so dowloaded 6.5 official ROM
when I try to instal it on my phone, after I press UPDATE, the phone goes on standby, active sync disconnects and the process of updating the ROM doesn't even start.
then I downloaded hard-spl, tried to install it but is says that the device is not connected to PC - although it is connected via active sync...
any ideas on how can I sort this out... your help is much appreciated!
forgot to mention some details...
when I try to instal a ROM, I get Error 260 (No connection)
I tried restarting my laptop, the phone and even tried on a different laptop - nothing works...
about the hard spl, I also instaled the required cab but nothing...
just hard reset manual...
hold both volumes and then hold power button
keep holding down until press "up volume" message appear to erase
after hard reset, use 1.83 HardSPL and after use whatever rom you wish
On e.g. Windows 7 you need to install another driver when TD2 is in bootloader mode (can easily be downloaded using winupdate while in bootloader mode).
BTW hard reset means pressing vol up AND vol down AND once reset button (with stylus).

thanks for your answer... I have tried doing the hard reset in all the ways, but it is not working.... i have tried with power button and reset button, while volume up and volute down were both pressed.. it does not work...
i've put a sd card in it and tried to run rom from there ... the way it's done is keeping volume down pressed and then turn the phone on.... the thing is that I don't get the tri-colour screen... it boots normaly and loads windows...
this is amazing... nothing seems to work on it...
Hard reset
Device must be turned off:

hmmm
@S-Line - i have tried on windows xp and vista... and hard reset does not work on my phone :|
@Tom Lenferink thanks for the idea, i've got a card, formated fat32, put a rom on it with name 'TOPAIMG.nbh' and tried to do volume down and turn on the phone... it loads normaly, doesn't go on the coloured screen...
any more ideas guys? I can see 2 things that can be wrong
1) is not hard slp yet
2) buttons don't seem to work, btu they work in windows mobile
fake fake fake
don't bother guys, i just realised that the phone I got is a fine fake after diamond 2.... sorry for the trouble and people who want to buy diamond2, be very carefull.... it looks identical, windows is the same etc

Interesting, it means that they even copied the serial number if you could download the ROM from HTC website.
Could you pls post pictures of your phone from front and back side ?
How do you know it is not real TD2 (I mean, what is the difference ?)
Post pictures and I'll do a comparison so others know what to look out for. They're very rarely identical.

hi guys, I just randomly found this thread. been looking for a diamond2 from second hand. bought one a week ago and had exactly the same problem with flashing. after some time i realised that it was a fake clone ugly piece of junk.
so you asked about the differences, here they are:
- the one i had, had no front camera.
- overall build quality was weird, you could tell just by opening it and removing the batt. all the inside parts were somehow covered/sealed with a ducktape - really not htc style
- terrible screeen - terrible colors, contrast, brightness (my good old s710 has much better display), not calibrated - you had to push 2mm below the actual button, slow cpu (all i know it wast really fast, dont know about the speed of the original, never held it)
- no g sensor, no gps module. not sure 100% but it had a shortcut for external gps and you had to push a button to rotate the home screen (i guess both of these kind of imply missing these features)
- when i tried to download the official fw, imei wasnt recognised - which i think, is the best way to find out. after downloading fw from other sources, i got the 260 error.
peace and be careful
Most clones have a 3.5mp camera and 128mb RAM
hard reset
Just a quick note, I tried to carry out a hard reset as in the manual. I could not get it to work - until I found that if I removed battery, refitted it, then a hard reset worked every time. Read my new post to see why I had to do a hard reset....!!!!!
