i need a new ROM - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OKay i have been running drizzy and JACs v3r2 Hero ROM for sometime....its gotten a bit slow even when I have a 96 mb linux-swap...theres also a flash player glitch...when i use it...all the standard htc apps force close randomly (music, gapps, etc...just not the browser) and then I dont even exit the browser and i cant even hit the force close buttons for those popups...so I cant use the flash in the browser and it sends me straight to a htc loading screen...so, I absolutely need flash so which New ROM should I flash?????
I want one that doesnt lag, and has as few problems as possible, and I need flash player fixed...also, should i just stick with a 64 mb linux partition or is 96 okay??
I am sorry its a long post but I need a full answer

I've been running JACxHEROv1.2 and it's working just fine. I haven't had any issues except for every once in a while it'll have to load the home screen. Other than that perfect. Also try and keep in mind that the HERO roms are all going to have some querks for a while. I still think it's wicked impressive that we're running a phone on our phone.. (reminds me of xibit)

I like all the cyan builds and JACxROM. I would love to run Hero myself but it's just too slow. I mean the aesthetics are great but to me it's like running a nice looking macbook with a celeron processor vs an i7 processor in an old lenovo laptop

Well if you're looking to have hardcore themes, flash the Cyanogen builds (the themes make me want to switch to CM but i just cant get off the Sense UI ). I currently have JacxHero v1.2 which is extremely fast with fat32/ext3/Linux-swap, haven't seen the HTC logo loading screen yet .

ok ill guess ill flash that...v3r2 restarts like 5 times a day and i have no control over it....and i have to do battery pulls for it to restart properly...ill try jacxhero 1.2 then until drizzy and jac make v3 versions of their 5 new ROMs.btw should I use 32 mb linux swap or should I stick with 96 mb swap

96mb seems like a little much, it could cause instability
either 32 or 64 should be fine (32 may be better but ive read that people have gotten it to work just fine w/ 64mb)

Ive tried 32,48 and 64. I've seen an noticeable improvement between 32 and 64. If you want to play it safe just go with 48, 96/128 sound like they'd be way too unstable.

[Solved] Fastest Hero ROM?

Hey, I was wondering what the fastest Hero build is (With the least lag). The thing is, I desperately want Hero on my phone but also desperately hate the lag that it comes with. So yeah, thanks in advance.
Cyanogen + Hero theme isn't enough for me. I want the real thing!!!
JACHero =) The latest version with Optimized Rosie. Make sure you have a class 6 sdcard for best results!
I've tried JACHero. D: I may be asking for too much, but is there a way to make it even faster? Because it was still up to a 20 second freeze before I could switch screens at Home. And yep, got my 8 gb class 6 sdcard rigth here .
Hm..try over clocking to 528MHZ? and use swapper too.
Use JacHero 2.3.3
Enable swapper 32/10 at /system/sd/swapper.swp
JacHero is already overclocked so dont worry bout that
Use only 3 home screens and minimize the widgets on those three. I suggest using clock twitter (if u use it) and messaging widgets.
That worked perfect for me with no lag at all. Use adb to remove any widgets that you dont use. That got me to 40mb of internal space which made it really fast soooooo ya
Good Luck!
PUSH the Rosie (optimized) by coolbho3000 to hero It's been heavily compressed and reduced in size so should run faster. You can try Drizzy's hero remix too and someone has hero with cyanogen's kernel which should IMO run veryy fast. We'll find out soon. Until then what can be done to speed things up have already been stated in this thread
Enable swapper

how do i go about this? i am setting up logcat right now... i wanna load and run hero fast as well! if you can help me out with this i'll donate a couple fresh crisp 20 dollar bills to ya ;-)

Jachero vs Cyanogen

So im currently running JACHero 2.7.3 and its amazing! I love all the widgets, but i really cant afford for my phone to be locking up on calls and still having some Force close issues. ive tried reinstalling it near 4 times already. I have a class 6 card, tried 32 mb swap and 64 mb swap, and have an 8 gig card. If it just hung going from email or text id be ok but i cant really be missing calls.
so my question is, whats the difference between JACHero and Cyanogen. From what i understand Cyan doesnt run rosie (which i dont really have a clear understand what that is). But i was looking in the homescreen page and it looks like Cyans' rom can still use the widgets and most people say it runs much faster.
Can anyone confirm, and update me on the situation. thanks in advance!
Um you have a lot of reading to do my friend. JACHero ROM is based on the Hero phone made by HTC. It has nearly 100mb more RAM (memory) than the g1 so of course it will run slower. Hero ROMS are almost 20mb more in size than cupcake ROMS. Cyanogen's ROMS are heavily optimized cupcake ROMS that are built for speed. It's not possible to port over the widgets without porting over Rosie/Sense UI. Sense/Rosie requires alot of the HTC frameworks and unless someone can recode them and use Google's frameworks porting them is impossible. If you want a quick speedy ROM with lots of cool features go with Cyanogen. He includes the HTC Camera, exchange mail, and I *think* HTC Music. You can also flash lots of cool themes like Kspec Customs by brandenk and some other goodies too. Most theme devs are making cyanogen-compatible themes because most of the community has flocked to cyanogen's speedy speedy ROMS. If you want a rather bloated but "prettier" ROM go with Hero. The lag you are seeing is probably from having too many widgets running on the home screen. Hope that long description helped I suggest reading the OP of both JACHero and Cyanogen's ROMS. You'll learn alot more there.
Cyanogen is probably the fastest rom to date. Rosie is basically the user interface that you see. The menu tab at the bottom, all the widgets, basically the architecture of the system. Meh I won't go into details since i'm not a person who makes ROMs. But after using JACHero and Cyanogen, I'd stick with cyanogen based on speed, reliability, battery life, and being able to use different themes other than hero.
If I were you, make a nandroid back-up of your current stable ROM and just flash to a cyanogen rom and see how it works for you. Try it out for a day or 2. If you're like me, you really don't need to charge the g1 for a couple days.
Google ION and Cyanogen are the two best ROMS out on XDA for the G1.

My 2 cents to the perfect ROM

[Warning, theres alot to read ]
Hi All,
Just want to say a big thanks to all the great developers out there such as Dutty, Miri, topix, energyrom, xannytech.. etc.
Without you guys I think I would have sold my HD a long time ago.
I think I have flashed my Hd almost every day or two, since I had my hands on it. As there has always been a bug or two in every rom.
I have been a long time fan of Dutty's rom. But now that its stopped at the holy grail r0, the builds have been updated. Its great to have used his roms, but its still not perfect. So recently I've started looking again at other cookers.
I've been using WM 6.5 for a long time and I don't think that will change. But recently I have tried every combination wm6.1/m2.1, wm6.5/m2.1 wm6.5/m2.5 of different cookers, and tested. To see whether I have been missing out on anything.
I've finally come to a conclusion that wm6.5/m2.1 was the most stable and smoothest rom around. That brings me to Miri's roms. I've tried the wm6.5/2.5 v18 and wm6.5/m2.1 v35.
Miri's Wm6.5/2.5 v18 was great, but like every m2.5, it is still abit slow. and since I dont like the new HTC messenger, I would lose out on the mms. Well I dont really miss mms that much, but I've been without it for 6month+. And if I try to install Opera 10 on it, my pop up menu's were all screwed up and its one of those things I couldn't accept.
So lastly I went and tried Miri's wm6.5/m2.1 v35. And I must say, I think this is the one. There are a few bugs there, but I will post the links down to fix them.
First is the Miri's Rom: //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=493911
Before flashing Miri's rom there are a few things I would like to note
1. lockscreen delay that you would most likely want to fix by adding a file into your storage card.
link here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=587931
2. Pagepool changer to make the rom amazing I've tried countless sizes, but I've come to a conclusion that setting my pagepool number to 0 was the most effective.
link here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323269
Now you can flash the rom
After installing, you would notice on the settings tab that the line is missing between communications and customise tabs. And the line between g-sensor would flicker when you scroll down to it.
This is the list of things I would install:
1. Autolock - install csdevctrl.6.5.cab and play with the settings to your liking.
link here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386451
2. Chinese support - Just a unicode to read asian languages,
link here //rapidshare.com/files/135293786/uhei00m-gray.cab.html
3. 2d/3d driver by Neos2007 - make wonders for games on HD and also seems to fix the line problems on the settings tab.
link here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=496528
4. Gfxboost by Chainfire - This is abit complicated, it doesn't boost the graphics, it's more like it smoothens the display. So its more pleasant..
read more here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509704
5. Opera 10 beta - This is sooo much better than any other browsers. When you load a webpage, it used to show those annoying blocks that hasn't loaded. Not anymore! anyways no harm to test right? Just flash hasn't been implemented into it yet. But i dont mind..
download here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486502
6. HD Tweak - Im sure most ppl know this one. I just use this to change the left and right keys on the home screen. And turn off the sms sent notification. Thats about it
Just a note, although there is autolock function in HD tweak, it doesnt work that well. As soon as the backlight goes off, it doesnt come back on till you push the power button and back again.
link here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452505
Lastly: Im not a fan of the HTC task manager. So I normally turn it off by disabling the quick menu on today screen tick box. And just shortcut in programs tab to MS task manager.
Thats all I had to share
Hope you find your rom that works for you. This one just happens to work perfectly for me..
I use KWBR's rom.
I didn't choose Miri's as the log is not clear.
Energy rom is also quite impressive I would say.
Could you elaborate the better side of the Miri rom from your view?

if PP is set to 0, most probably the OS will adjust according to usage...
actually now i'm looking for stable WM6.5.x with manila/Sense 2.1 (as close to stock as possible, something like wajk's blackSTONEhenge), but most of recent ROM comes with Manila/Sense 2.5, which is a bit tough on the HD...not to mention lock-ups problem, even those who has flashed custom ROMs in HD2 is having some problems...when that time comes, i'm more than happy to stick with kwbr's topix 3.2.5 (might flash to the latest version as it comes with EzInput 2.1, which i like a lot)...

As much as I appreciate your comments, this is obviously your opinion and a lot of users may agree or disagree.
I'll continue to leave this thread open to see where it goes for the time being

which hero rom are you using?

this is for all those who are searching for the next hero rom they want to try, and also for us to be able to make some sort of judgement with relation to the popularity and usability of "a certain hero rom"...
i wanted to make a poll, but it would be too hard to include all the hero roms out there..
make it plain and simple guys...
i'll start...naturally
i'm switching between two roms(got them both nandroided
- jacxheroski 2.2r4 remix
this one's really nice and fast, works as advertised, but i would advise not to fill all the screens(7) with widget and stuff, cause it would start rebooting sometimes...i suggest 4 screens max...
- a version of jachero called superlite 2.7.3
this one comes without sense, BUT, you get to have all the htc hero applications, and its as fast as the best cupcake build i'v tried, and you can also flash the 10mb hack, and it also comes with flash for the browser... leds don't work tho
who's next

New to this

Hi i have tryed to search for it but don't think i am typing the correct thing. What are the benifit of putting a updated rom on my Toch HD? I just put htc's latest on and see no diffrence. I have been looking at overclocking it slightly as i think it runs so slow has any one done this?
Regards
Chris W
You cannot overclock (atleast not where stable) the blackstone. there was a program floating about at one point which did OC it to 600MHz (something like that) but that would crash if touchflow was enabled, but i digress. To improve performance, i suggest you install the driverpack which is in the how to improve graphics performance thread in this forum.
If you want some more speed, i suggest you install a custom 6.1 ROM (topix, the one by kwbr, is a personal favourite). alternatively, you could adjust the pagepool of the ROM youre on atm (would require the ROM image youre using and later a reflash of the edited image)
That said, the stock ROM was very quick for me. programs loaded almost instantaeously (most apps, like notes, youtube, WMP, but not opera or games, as these always take a second or too to load onto RAM). the only thing that put me off the stock ROM, was the fact that everything worked a bit too well for my liking. it was kinda boring. ever since i started screwing around with it (with this aid of this forum ofc), ive been able to do much more than i could with just a stock ROM.
