Hello everyone, is there a program that could set manually the GSM/EDGE band? my current radio is 1.27, and [ROM] (WM6.0 1.30+radio 1.27+ sound rec+phone) it seems that it doest want to choose the HSDPA only. There's HSDPA signal on my location, i have an HTC Advantage and it shows that its connected thru (H) however on my Shift. It only shows (E) Edge. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any way to configure the UMTS Band settings on the Trinity / D810? I ask as the ROM provides the following options:
Network Type:
Auto
GSM
WCDMA
GSM/UMTS Band:
Auto
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
UMTS(2100+800)
Now ... for the HSDPA Network in Australia for Telstra (Next G), I need the phone to work on the UMTS(850) Band. However, by selecting the option above where the only UMTS(850) is available means that the alternate 3G Band (not HSDPA) of UMTS(2100) is not available, and the GSM Bands in the same selection are not valid for the Australian market.
Couple of queries, and I hope there are ways of configuring the device to achieve this (without getting a new ROM to support it):
When a Band selection is made, what is the order which the device uses the connections? ... i.e. if the selection was GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850), will it look for UMTS or GSM first? If UMTS, which band - 1900 or 850?
When Auto is selected, I am guessing it uses each option in the list until it finds a valid network? This would mean that for Australia, if left on Auto, you would never select HSDPA for Telstra as it would find the 3G UMTS(2100) network first (non-HSDPA).
My assumptions are that if left on Auto, it looks based on list order (which is the network order in the registry). So, for Australia, I need a setting like the following:
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850+2100)
Is it possible to create this Band Selection without a new ROM?

The new Dopod ROM has the same band selections as yours does. I tried changing the selections to manual with bad results. I just leave it on auto now.

I could do that to, but it would mean I don't get HSDPA. I have verified this. The only way to get HSDPA is to set the Band selection to the one with UMTS(850) in it ... this is not ideal, and that's why I posed the question to this forum.
No one??
I am guessing that no one has ever come across this, or needed to do it?
Registry Patch
This Registry patch works for the Hermes. It might work on the Trinity.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\BandType]
"ItemCount"=dword:00000006
"ItemName1"="Auto"
"ItemName2"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)"
"ItemName3"="GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)"
"ItemName4"="UMTS(2100+800)"
"ItemName5"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100+850)"
"ItemName6"="GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)"
"ItemValue1"=dword:00000000
"ItemValue2"=dword:00000001
"ItemValue3"=dword:00000002
"ItemValue4"=dword:00000003
"ItemValue5"=dword:00000004
"ItemValue6"=dword:00000005
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\UMTS\BandSelection]
"Band"=dword:00000005
You really just need to add ItemName5 and 6, and ItemValue5 and 6, and change the ItemCount from 4 to 6 (as you added two options) using your favorite Registry Editor.
Do a soft reboot of the phone. Now you can select the NextG option GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850)
3G connection
I drive around the Perth Metro area a lot for work and am finding that if left on Auto the connection is lost quite often mid call. How have you found the 810's management of the bands? And the auto fallback? Is there a way to set the fallback threshold so it drops back if under 2 bar signal strength? At the moment it sits on 1 bar strength and drops out mid call.
Is there any way to force 3G connection? I had that option in my Globtrotter UMTS card and it was very good solution to have 3g data transfer instead edge. It was especially valuable if I had weak 3G signal and my UMTS card wanted to change connection from umts to edge. I found something similar in nokia phones: type of connection (Auto, 3G, GSM).
Try bandswitch,commmgrpro or sharps commmgr

Hey guys Just picked up the Diamond
I cant seem to get the E icon only G. which I believe is for GPRS. I know At&t 3g wont work but i thought @ least edge would
I tried the stock rom and the elite Rom still same issue
I have manually input the media net settings
wap.cingular
[email protected]
CINGULAR1
the isp.cingular setting wont work for me
Im located in 21117 zip if that helps & my blackjack gets a 3g signal and my Iphone gets the Edge signal from same location
GPRS is hella slow DSL reports have me @ 39kbit/sec please help!
Are you sure EDGE is running the 1900Mhz frequency in that area? Your other phones may be locking onto 850Mhz which may support Edge, but 1900 may not.
Hi All!
Had a look but can't see any posts that answer my question which is: how do I force my Diamond to use HSDPA when browsing. I am with Vodafone and I have had the HSDPA icon show occasionally but usually browsing defaults to GPRS.
Any help welcomed
Answering my own question
Hi All!
I was trying out my Browser at work in Edinburgh. I have just now tried the MS Internet Explorer browser (with wi-fi switched off). It connects using H (HSDPA) Duh!
ME
i dont believe it's possible
gprs, edge, umts hspda it's all the same
signal just with the right connection
and quality the speed inc
from the pda's point of view it's the same thing
only the speed changes
You can't force it to use HSDPA. It all depends on what the coverage is like where you are when you use your browser. If you have wifi on and you are connected, it will default to that connection regardless whether you are in a HSDPA enabled area, just 3g or GSM.

Hi there,
Can anyone please assist?
Whenever I select a phone Band of WCDMA and am operating on HSDPA [H], my Touch Diamond which is on Hutchison 3's Network, has very poor reception whenever indoors and has lots of call dropouts. The phone shows just the dot below the Antenna Icon or just one bar to the right, most of the time while on HSDPA.
Whenever I select a phone Band of GSM, and the phone switches to an Edge connection [E] then I have nearly full signal strength, but this is considered "Roaming" off my network service provider and therefore is much more expensive to use. (What a scam!).
I have tried installing several radio ROM's but it has not made any difference to the signal strength and dropout problems. The Radio ROMs tried so far:
1.09.25.23 Official (Quad Band)(52.51.25.26H)
1.08.25.20 Official (Quad Band)(52.44.25.24H)
1.08.25.08 Official (Quad Band)(52.44.25.24U)
1.00.25.BS14 Official (Quad Band)
1.00.25.06
The phone has had this problem with HSDPA signals since I purchased it.
My questions are:
1. Have other people experienced this kind of issue and is poor reception indoors normal when on HSDPA [H]?
2. Is there a way to force a Touch Diamond, say through a registry hack, to use a Band of WCDMA but stay on [3G] instead of using [H] ?
3. Is it more likely that my phone is a good candidate for a warranty return as perhaps the antenna is dodgy?
4. Are there any other suggestions I can try to fix this problem?
Any guidance here is appreciated.
Thanks,
nanohaxor

I love my Diamond and think that it is one of the best PDAs I have used. Its small size is just perfect for me, and I find other phones eg iPhone, Touch HD too big for me as a phone. I have customised it to the extent that I get no lag issues and it runs really fast.
The one flaw which I haven't been able to fix is its poor 3G/HSDPA reception compared to other phones like my previous Nokia. (The iPhone suffers from this problem also).
You obviously live or work in a poor 3G reception area for Three. When your phone switches from 3G to GSM, it will invariably drop the call if you are on a call. If the 3G reception is strong, indoors or outdoors, there will be no problems. 3G reception can fluctuate especially indoors. I dont think there is any fault with your phone.
Your options are to:
1) Change mobile phone provider
2) Force the phone to use GSM in low 3G signal areas and you will have no problems with call drop outs. There is no extra cost for roaming in GSM with Three for calls, only for data.
I use option 2, since I use WI-FI in the house for all my data needs. The easiest way to do this is to use Comm Manager, under Settings, Phone, Band, and then select GSM in 'Network Type' to force it to use GSM, or WCDMA to force it to use 3G/HSDPA. The other option is Auto, which is the cause of the problem. I use a hack which enables a '3G' toggle in Comm Manager so that I can change from 3G to GSM with the simple touch of a button.
You will also find that the battery life of the Diamond is really poor when it has to constantly change from 3G to GSM and vice versa. On the other hand, forcing it to use GSM and only switching on 3G when you use data, will actually prolong the battery life. I get up to 2+ days battery life when using GSM only.

Riker88, appreciate your comments and feedback. Thanks.
I tried my 3 SIM in another Touch Diamond and found the problem with poor HSDPA reception on Hutchison 3 was exactly the same on the other phone. This likely means it's the provider, or phone + provider combination. In either case, darn it !!
I generally operate with the phone band selection on WCDMA, rather than GSM or Auto. I noticed yesterday while driving around the city that my phone switched from the HSDPA (ie. 3.5G) service with the [H] icon on the screen to the 3G (ie. 3.0G) service with the [3G] icon on the screen, and the [3G] service signal was stronger. What I'm wondering is this:
Is there a way to force the Touch Diamond to use [3G] all the time, instead of [H]?

From my understanding, you should get same radio signal strength no matter it is 3G or HSDPA enabled. Your observation may be your original signal (with HSDPA) is too weak and hand-over to another radio station that have stronger signal but no hsdpa.
I also notice that the 3G reception capability of diamond is weak. But this is nothing dealing with hsdpa.

From what i've seen - that's true. (i have the same problem).
