OS Map v1.1 is completely free (although donations are appreciated!), and available now from the Android Market.
More information, FAQs, and plenty more screenshots are available at http://www.pocketgamer.org/os-map
Just to add, scales right up to smallest the OS produce are available... i.e. to individual building level.
Nice.
Well, that didn't take long. Received an email from Ordnance Survey today, negotiations begin... at least they haven't run to Google or blocked my API key yet, though... ;-)
i have noticed there is no map key ?
ie whot is a rd how is a footpath marked etc
i know alot of it is straight foward but not every body is switched on to start off with ..
it could do with a button in with the settings that opens up a window with a list of whot is on the map .. like you get at the top of a papper os map
also i found that if you leave the app to look at an email then go back to it it had to reload , wich is a right pain if your running 2g and roaming ...
oooo and can you over ride the lock time too mine is set for a 1 min and keeps turning the map off when im looking at it .....
apart from that well pleased have now used it for the last 5 days nearly non stop while walking along the coast of devon ... apart from a few comection issues its been top notch
hairybum (some of the professionalism from this reply has gone already because I can't stop sniggering...)
Reloading after leaving the app:
I can add an option to the app to tell it to keep awake when the phone is turned off or the map window moves to the background. Obviously, this will have a negative impact on battery life but it might be possible to minimise this by having it only check for position updates every minute or so while the screen is off.
Map key
There is a PDF key on the OS website, which I will add a link to. I'll need to check with them whether or not I can distribute this with the app.
Lock / Screen Off Time
Will add an option to override this too, since it's one of the things that's annoying me about the app.
Feedback always appreciated!
I'm really impressed with OS Maps, David. It's incredibly polished for an app still (time-wise) in its infancy. Thanks and congratulations.
Btw, your instructions for setting up a custom URL were excellent. I'm using my own API key, tell the OS.
Al
Cheers Al! Would be eternally grateful if you get the chance to rate the app on Android Market and add a comment.
Kind regards,
Dave.
was thinking more of a pop up window for the map key if poss rather than a link , would make checking that your doing things right quicker rather then wating for the browser to load ............. a bit like the one for my location simple to get too .....
ooo and sorry about the snigger but user names seem too get harder to come buy espically on a large site like this
Just take a copy of an OS map with you until you remember what the essentials are. They are not that hard to remember and most are pretty self explanatory TBH.

Will do. Hoping to get out of town and have a good play with it at the weekend, then I might have some 'requests for features'.

Sorry I thought the idea was not to have to take a map with me ?
Or to have to buy a map at all ?
Just buy this app far cheaper
It is of course
I'm say use one to learn the key and then stop using it.
Essentially there are not that many things you really need to remember and most are pretty self explanatory.
This is probably obvious, but please don't rely on any electronic map as your sole navigation aid, in circumstances when you are really relying on it, if you see what I mean... in those circs, you need a backup that can't fail (and know how to use it).
lecture over
Oh yeah !
First if all a big thanks for this amazing app. I just wanted to enquire whether you believe that the speed of finger scrolling can be increased or not. It's a little painful at the moment in my opinion.
Hi Mansn,
At the moment, I don't believe that it can. The program is capturing touch events, converting them to mouse movements, and passing them to the Javascript to move the map. I think the speed is poor due to the limited brain power of the Hero when it comes to Javascript.
On the bright side, it's something that should improve as Google make changes to their WebKit engine to speed up the Javascript side of things.
I could also map the trackball to move the map around - this would be smoother, I think, but not quite as easy to use.
Cheers,
Dave.
im confused
wot is now free ? that wasnt free before
The whole app is free. It used to be £4.99.
Nice! But why?
Ordnance Survey disagreed with my interpretation of some of the clauses in their developer agreement. Rather than jeopardise the access of anyone who'd bought the map, I decided to make it free.
The alternative would have been to pull it completely.

Has anybody tried this app yet? I dled and i must say its pretty cool. Although the GPS had my address right at one point but now it's giving me a different address of my current location. How's ur experience with this one?

Tried it. Looks cool but it doesnt act as a gps for mapping / driving directions. Shame because it seems pretty neat. I suppose if you entered an address into a contact listing for anywhere you wanted to go it may work, but for my job i drive to a minimum of 10 new places a day......so its pretty impractical. It appears to tie into google maps. Neat idea though. Would be cool to track the turns without having to have Tomtom take the device by full screen lol
Works great, and would be handy to be able to tell people where you are in terms of an address.
it'll also tell you how hot it is based on your gps location, and how fast you're moving.
I really liked the program, but all of that GPS activity just killed my battery.
If it killed your battery, then you didn't read how to use it. Don't turn it on full-time, set it to auto. After a few days it'll figure out your usage pattern.
I used it for a long time to keep my GPS prepped more than anything, but I don't anymore because I don't use the built-in GPS much. If I could figure out how to make the camera use a different com port, I would *never* use the build-in GPS.

is this mean for USA only for can be use for other countries?
Dear Canadian htc magic/sapphire/android users (and our international friends that visit Canada),
I just put up the beta version of EmWeather, my new weather application. It is very functional and looks nice. Most other weather apps do not provide this extended information or just have hooks to open weather underground websites (ie. slow and annoying). On top of that, most apps pull from Weather.com which, for Canada anyway, is next to useless.
Environment Canada provides excellent, surprisingly accurate, and very detailed forecasts for the whole country. This app aims to make this information easily available.
Features:
- Free, open-source
- Pulls data feeds from Environment Canada
- Shows current details and 8 extend forecasts on the main screen
- Easy access to detailed forecast information
- Ability to choose any city in canada, no need to do an independent search for obscure city codes.
- Wonderful GUI look
Coming in the next release:
- Alternative icon packs
- French language
Enjoy!

0.9.1 update
Just a quick note that there was a small bug in the application that showed every day as being the "evening" that snuck in at the last second. It is fixed in the 0.9.1 update.
Well, it's a good start. Only problem is, I've been spoiled by other weather applications. So, here's the things that have me using Snowstorm instead:
- Widget
- Auto-update the city based on the phone's current location (aka, automatically picks the city)
Okay, so it's just two things. Great work otherwise though, I'll definitely be keeping an eye up for this app in the future.
Thanks for the feedback. I have been thinking about adding multiple city support for travellers, also the ability to choose a couple of "favourite" cities for commuters.
I have a question about the widget: what would you like a widget to show? A widget that shows the current weather is pretty useless normally (if it's raining, it's raining, if it's sunny, it's sunny). Should it show the current weather and the weather forecast for the evening? Current/Tomorrow? Current/evening/tomorrow?
Thanks for the feedback,
Emilie
Hello, I've downloaded and took at look at your app, and I have a few suggestions for improvement. If you'd like to hear me out.
Like Spaceboy said include that and my suggestions:
- Widget (Take a look at "beautiful widgets" weather widget, or the Hero's Weather Widget, where it has a nice animation for clouds/sun/rain/temperature)
- Also can you add a Celsius/Fahrenheit switch
- If you look at weatherbug, it allows you to put the temperature into the taskbar at the top of the android, just a simple 26°
- Also from weatherbug if you were to pull the application bar down it would give more detail on the weather in a simple row.
- Auto-update the city based on the phone's current location
Huh, guessed I should've specified what should be in the widget eh?
From what I want and from what I see in other apps, here's what a good widget needs.
- minimal battery usage
- does not slow down the phone
- able to choose update rate (every 15 min, 30 min, hour, etc)
- updates your location automatically based on network location
- either displays the current weather in a 1x1 widget (useful to people work indoors) or the expected weather for the day (good for mornings)
- for multiple size widgets, displays the short-term forecast (weather for the morning/afternoon/evening/night for today day and tomorrow) or the long-term forecast (daily weather for the next few days)
- clicking the widget should open detailed view, (or your app to the right screen)
- some people like different skins, I'll settle for the ability to change font colour
That's about it off the top of my head. Hope it helps.
if you dont mind me asking... where does the Em come from?
Thanks again for the feedback. I am excited people are using the app! I do all the time and I love it.
I added the features you all have mentioned and the ones I am thinking about to the Issues tracker on the homepage. Please feel free to add others or comment on these ones.
I am a little swamped with school and work right now but I wanted to make sure I articulated all the features and bugs so that I can add one of them now and then when I have a few hours to spare.
Thanks!
ps. Em comes from the EM-pathy I feel for all those poor suckers reading weather feeds from weather.com and getting rained on when the forecast says sunny! Just kidding, it's from my name
I don't suppose you plan on posting up the sources? =D
I'll add what I can to the issues. Have fun with classes.
Actually, the (gpl3) source is available on the project page (use SVN).
For some reason, the last update (0.9.2) didn't seem to commit all the changes properly but the sources should be at least 0.9.1.

Hey, I appreciate your work on the app. My only issue is that the most important information to me is the 'feels like' temperature, which only seems to be tracked by the Weather Channel. I don't care what the 'real' temperature is, I care what it feels like. So I guess I'm stuck with the 'Weather Channel' app for the time being. It sucks, because I really like the layout of your app - it's just that you draw your weather information from Environment Canada, which doesn't track 'feels like'.
Finally
It's about time someone decided to use the Weather Office for Canadian weather information.
Currently I just had a browser shortcut on my desktop to my local city weather. This app has the same information I want formatted for my screen.
Thank you!
Suggestion - I like the familiar look and feel of the weatheroffice.gc.ca website. Current weather as the top strip with extra information (wind chill, tendency, ect..) Then just basic weather boxes with the POP info.
Personally I don't care for fancy graphics and eye candy. I just want the information in an easily readable format.
WeatherEye
Try Weathereye. Feeds from www.theweathernetwork.com Just as the TV channel.

EmWeather now includes widgets and basic theming options!

Hi, I'm glad you like the app. Environment Canada does provide an index that it calls "comfort". For example, on a day that is 18 degrees but feels a little chilly out, environment canada will say "comfort: cool". It is very accurate and it is already included in EmWeather.
I find that the weather channel feeds are basically useless for Canada, or at least for Montreal, certainly for forecast info but also for current conditions. For example, if it's rainy and cold outside and the weather channel says "mostly cloudy and feels like 17c", it's totally useless information
In the future, probably in the next 6 months, I am hoping to be able to add some other weather feed sources. If I can included the weatherchannel feeds, it will include this information.

Roll on "the holiday season"!
When showing off the app in person over a lunch, I had a comment about wanting to see excerpts with the titles in the items listing screens. While this isn't something I would personally want on my portable screen, would anyone else use this functionality?
Looks nice and would love to see a WM6.5 or Android version. No plans to move to WP7 for me.
Looks very functional and smooth!
Hi there!
Just want to say it looks very smooth and functional. Keep it up!! Looking forward to the release of WP7 to use your app.

That was my thought as well, but if its only one person who wants it, I'm not sure its worth the development time.
Definitely it's not one person, it's critical functionality for me as well in an RSS reader (not that I'm a potential user of a Google reader but still).

Good to know, I'll look at including it.
Tada. It's an option in settings now.
This looks great.
I love to see that some devs, like you, started creating apps already. This gives me good hope of the ammount of apps at launch, and the first few weeks after that.
Now for something else:
Does your app make use of the chosen background- and accent color?
If you could implement that, it will share the same style as one's startscreen.

Yes, it uses the theme you select in settings. The accent color is used for status labels, selections, unread indicators, and read indicators at 30% opacity. Since everything in the App is alpha based, any new themes are added should be supported without modification, too. I wanted to make sure the App felt as much a part of the OS as possible, and I will be continuing that theme throughout all my apps.
I've also added in some nice transitions when moving between articles, too.
Would this be a freeware, or a paid application?
This looks great! I'm so excited for this app!
I'm an iPhone user who will be switching to WP7 when it comes out and gets a good Google Reader app. As an avid Reeder iPhone app user, these features are a must:
Offline reading support
Ability to star items from the list screen without having to open the item. Reeder implements this with an incredible swipe function. Screenshot attached.
Ability to share items through other services (Facebook, Twitter, Read It Later, etc.). Screenshot attached.
Thank you!

Any updates here?
JotPad 1.6
A nice YouTube video of me explaining what this app can do. This video is for version 1.4.
App description
What is the Jotapad? It's a Windows Phone app to jot down anything you want. Having a conversation with someone and really need
to do a drawing to illustrate your thoughts? This is the app you've been looking for!
Want to scribble over a picture of your boss just for fun? Add a moustache and a beard like you did in the high school? Have a blast!
Just want to pass some time doing some doodles? You've came to the right place!
What are the new features of version 1.6?
- Undo support. Now you can undo any lines you draw or erase. Quite handy!
- Auto Live ID sign-in. The app will try to sign-in with your Live ID without you having to go to the settings page. A time saver.
- Improved error reporting. I'm using the excelent BugSense to catch and log any unhandled exception so I can better fix it. If you're a developer check their page. This little plugin is brilliant! http://www.bugsense.com
- Pro Pen Selector. I've done a brand new, free form pen selector for the paid version of this app. Check it out.
What about the existing features?
- Multiple drawing pages
And you can copy/paste the lines between them!
- SkyDrive upload
Login with your Windows Live ID and upload your doodles straight to your SkyDrive!
- Page background colors
A multitude of page background colors can be chosen.
- Custom background images
Use any image from your Pictures Hub as the background of your doodle or take a photo straight from the image selection page!
- Save to the phone
Save your drawings to the Pictures Hub, sync them with your PC or share your doodle
using any of the supported services by your Windows Phone.
- Live Tile
If you pin the app to the start screen it will show the last drawing you made.
- Multi touch
Using two fingers you are able to zoom, rotate and move around the page of your drawing.
- Shake to clear
By shaking your phone it will vibrate and clear your drawing.
There are some limitations to this free version, but the app will let you know about these and provide an upgrade path for you.

Hi,
thanks for this serious work, when i see all options i can just congrats you for the deep development you did. free version is great enough for common use...nice app!
little feedback : when the white background appears, ready to use, it's opened with a zoom (x8 i think) applied by default...should be 1:1 ratio by default don't you think?

I'm glad you like it! Yet I have quite a few ideas I haven't implemented yet so this is not the final version, at all.
I do have a question regarding this forum. When I update my app, should I create a new thread for it like I've been doing or should I edit the old thread and bump it to the top?
mmmh...i think all threads are edited in case of updates...but you should ask a dev because i didn't post any new thread for now :/ sorry.
i'm curious to see what you could add to your app, an inbuilt messenger?

Multiple drawing pages instead of just one, for example, it's a very requested feature.
EDIT: I'm doing that at the moment, do you guys think I should use some text to identify the pages like in this screenshot? Of just the image thumbnails would be fine?

I've only noticed that feedback right now. Yes, I think you are absolutely right, I've had a few emails of people having trouble understanding this app supports pinch to zoom. Actually I've just anwsered one such email right now.
EDIT: I've fixed it, but I want to finish the rest of the features I'm working on for this version before pushing it out. In the meantime I'm going to edit the marketplace description to warn people off.
EDIT 2: I've placed a callout ballon to let new users know the page is zoomed, I've opted by this because otherwise the drawn lines would look too thin and people would be confused (again...).
Page identification would be nice but that way takes too much space...
"page x" could be written with transparent fonts? without creating a two parts tile...why not a dynamic one with drawings on first side and "page x" on the other (would be awesome but perhaps hard to build).

Cool...
the pinch & turn to zoom & rotate is very efficient!
if you need to translate your app into other languages, many people here would be happy to help just for fun (serious work is the rule!)...i could do the french one.
Have a nice weekend!

I was going to do flipping tiles like you said, but as you can see there's a known bug on the Silverlight Toolkit that mirrors the text upside down if no background image is set (see page 2 and 5):
<rant more> And if that was the only bug with that Toolkit we'd all be very happy...</rant mode> Anyway, I've used it for a while and it's kind of annoying actually, if you're looking for a specific drawing on a tile and then half of them flip, you have to sit there waiting for them to flip back, and if the ones you want to see don't flip, you have to wait even more...
I think I'm better off leaving it alone.

JotPad 1.4
A nice YouTube video of me explaining what this app can do:
What is the Jotapad? It's a Windows Phone app to jot down anything you want. Having a conversation with someone and really need to do a drawing to illustrate your thoughts? This is the app you've been looking for!
Want to scribble over a picture of your boss just for fun? Add a moustache and a beard like you did in the high school? Have a blast!
Just want to pass some time doing some doodles? You've came to the right place!
What are the new features of this version?
- I've added the AdDuplex control to get some good exposure, what is your opinion on network guys?
- Phone vibrates when you shake the phone to clear the drawing.
- Animated pages on phone rotation.
- Pictures uploaded to the SkyDrive they are placed in a folder called JotPad.
- Fixed a bug that slowed down drawing in certain circumstances
I've done a paid version of this app that allows users to draw over live video captured by the phone's camera. I can't post it here because it's paid, but can you guys go to this thread and check it out? There's a trial version you can download to see if you like it. As always get back to me with any questions or suggestions!

Hello there, I'm the creator of the competition app Pebby - Baby Helper.
Pebby helps you take care of your baby. It allows you to easily set the last time the baby slept, ate or had its diaper changed. Glance down and check how long it has been since any of those events.
Pressing one of the three buttons starts or stops the timer for each of the three activities. The last time or time interval is shown besides each activity.
You can also view statistics and graphs of your baby's activities on your smartphone, on the configuration page.
Now that the competition is over and the first version of the app is released, I'll continue to listen to feedback and ideas for Pebby, to further improve it.
As this app is based on actual requests from moms, it's important for me to receive parents' inputs on how to improve it. Feel free to offer suggestions in this thread or via PM.
I hope you enjoy Pebby and be sure to tell all your friends with babies about it!

Project Roadmap
This is the project roadmap right now:
Create barebones project with app name and icon
Display button icons
React to feeding and diaper change buttons and save their times
React to sleeping button and save its times (start and end)
Persist time data locally for future app executions
Experiment with Action Bar to conserve screen real estate
Explore phone-side persistence and graphs display with Javascript, prepare JS Bundling
App config page with activity graphs on phone
Show 'X time ago' for each of the activities
Reliability improvements / tests
Design store assets
Future work:
Offer a way to register activities for twins
Here's a first draft screenshot:
Progress Report
The project is going along nicely, with the basic draft layout already done.
The app already has a menu icon and can be used to track the last feeding and diaper change times.
Next steps are to implement the sleeping times and save the information between app executions!
After some more development time, here's where Pebby is:
I've implemented the sleeping times, the time values persistence and redesigned the icons as an action bar to free up some much needed screen real estate.
Bonus points for automatically supporting buttons' pressed state now (because of the action bar, nifty little layer).
The absolute basic functionality of the app is now done, but it's time to start considering the storage and display of graphs: iOS apps require some time after bundling the working Javascript, which I'll need to implement the remaining features.
No screenshot today because the work so far has been mainly behind the scenes:
Communication between watch-phone
Storage of all values on phone, along with latest values on watch
Barebones configuration page
Communication between phone and configurations page
Ability to reset values history and start from scratch
App submission to the Pebble Store with Javascript bundling for iOS
And we're starting to see some graphs here!
The challenge end date is closing in and the app finally displays fuzzy "X time ago" texts.
I'm going to use the time that's left to essentially debug the app and make it more reliable in cases where the phone becomes disconnected from the watch as well as design the required store assets.
App released!
Check the first post for all the goodies, and thanks for following along!
Just wondering if this will work with a Pebble Time Round...? And, if not, can you create a "round" version??

I didn't do anything specific for the round Pebbles. A number of fixes and improvements are planned for the future, including upgrading the app to use the new SDKs and correctly drawing on second and third generation devices but unfortunately I haven't had the time to do it. So it's not forgotten but I can't promise dates right now.
If you do end up testing it on Pebble Time Round can you please report how it shows right now?
Thanks
