Hard SPL - Custom ROM Installing Guide? - P3600 Software Upgrading

Hey,
It's been about 3-4 years since I last flashed my Dopod D810. I don't have the P3600i, and whenever i try to find those custom roms, they are more than likely designed for the P3600i.
Just recently, i found a few owners of the D810 (like me) and found a couple roms that support my D810.
Because I got a headache trying to make heads to tails on the threads, could anyone tell me what the instructions are on updating ROMs?
For example, I remembered installing Hard SPL, but now i noticed theres various versions (last I used v1.20). then there was some other file/program i needed in order to install other ROMS.... are there any specific instructions anyone could post here - perhaps this can teach others how to install in the future? Thanks.

Newbie question - which ROM to use

Hi all
Complete newbie to ROM upgrades. I have a SPV M700 coming in the next few days and will be unlocking & flashing the ROM (currently Orange & WM5 I think). As there are many different ROMs available, I'm after some advice where to start.
From what I can see, there are 2 basic types - full (includes apps, config tools, etc) and lite (OS only). I'm guessing for me, a full ROM is going to be better whilst I get the hang of things, but which one to choose ? I think Schap's ROM has everything I need (and more) but welcome your advice.
Thanks
Maxi
similar question really.
I have found http://trinityguides.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25&Itemid=66 which seems quite good.
However will this result in a SIM unlocked device??
It would seem to SIM unlock I need to install a very old Radio ROM??
I think it is all quite confusing as obviously the different ROMs etc. have changed a lot over time and it is difficult to work out if the instructions I am reading are outdated.
Thanks for any help
The Trinityguides are very useful when it comes to the actual doing. My question was really which ROM(s) should I consider to upgrade to.

Latest Stable Rom assistance please?

Hey all,
First please let me say I am not looking for anyone to tell me what is the BEST cooked rom out there. I know each one has specific plusses and minuses that are suited to particular purposes.
Also, I have looked through this forum. I have read most of the WIKI, and spent an hour reading through various posts. However, I haven't found a concise discussion of this as many people are focusing on cooked ROMs.
I am getting a Tilt and from my reading so far I am pretty sure I want to reflash it with an HTC Rom. I want the TouchFlo and some of the other stuff that the HTC offers. I have some general questions though:
1) Is there a downside to putting HTC Rom on a Tilt? I know there are some little issues that have solutions (like keyboard remap) but will I experience any instability or call/data quality issues running HTC over ATT ROM?
2) Relating to #1...can/should I just keep the ATT ROM and can I then add everything from the HTC ROM (from cabs?). I don't know which solution yields the best stability.
3) Is there a reason why I would go with a 6.0 ROM instead of 6.1 ROM? I would like to believe that the 6.1 is the newer, better stuff...but maybe not?
4) What is the latest 6.1 official ROM? Is it RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship?
5) When it comes to "official" shipped ROMs and Radio firmware from ATT and HTC, is there any good reason not to use the latest versions? That is are any of the new versions a step backwards in terms of stability/performance?
I do not want to use any cooked firmware (at least initially). I would like to start with a vanilla shipped firmware and then add/remove things myself. If this comes down to me cooking my own ROM so be it, but I would like to start with the basic.
My goal is to have a ROM that will be fast and stable, with as few lock-ups or resets as possible.
Thanks for your assistance.
1)i dont believe so it depends on the radio i believe
2)i think u should flash cuz it'll remove all the atnt junk..bloatware n such
3)it all depends on personal pref...i did cuz i wanted the threaded sms function
4)i dont know.sorry
5)i think they're all pretty much the same..just gotta test the differnt versions to find out
most of the cooked roms i tried arent as bad...not many lockups or resets
i'm still a noob at flashing tho so still trying things out

Rom Updates / Customs roms (from a newbie)

Hi All,
I've just got my new Touch HD but have never entered the world of custom roms before.
My current ROM is 1.14.405.3 (22273) WWE dated 10/24/08. I've just updated the radio version to 1.10.25.25. My HD seems quite slow and generally I'm quite disappointed with it. That said I was quite disappointed with my HTC Tytn until HTC released a new rom.
From reading this forum there seem to be many happy people so I suspect that the software in my phone is more at fault. I've seen the new Arabian rom that has been posted. It obviously won't install on my UK model (I'm not tied to a mobile carrier) without me tinkering, but I wondered if there would be any benefit in me uploading it. Does it invalidate my warranty or can I reset the original rom should I need it repaired?
As a rule do custom rom makers use the latest offical release and then tweak them? What are the benefits?
I'm sorry for so many newbie questions. If anyone can help or point me in the right direction of some great "simple" instructions I would be grateful.
Regards
Jonathan

hi bro welcome to XDA.
Everything regarding flashing, upgrading and choosing from cookded roms , official roms and valuable information can be found here for Touch HD thank to HDUSER for updating here:

good luck
The first couple of pages in the wiki are a bit complex if you're new to all this and have never customised your phone. Loads of unneccessary info (which is nice to know, but not always important). The easiest way by far to flash your ROM would be using SPL and flashing from your SDcard. Search the forum, as there one or two threads specifically abpout flashing for n00bs.
There's one specifically I'm thinking about which really helped me out, but I have no idea anymore which one it is and I can't be arsed to search for it for you Search is your friend (search for: flashing ROM n00b newbie).

Read WIKI, should answer all your questions
Search & use the Wiki
First, since you're a noob, no problem asking. But in the future, please use the search function and use the Blackstone Wiki pages to find answers before posting.

1) SPL
1a) To flash a rom from htc, just follow htc's instructions for installing the rom
1b) To flash a custom rom, you must use a custom SPL (or bootloader) which bypasses htc's built-in security check and allows for custom rom flashing.
1b1) USPL - This is a temporary spl which doesn't stay with the device. Find it here
1b2) HSPL - This is a permanent solution and allows for flashing custom roms many times and doesn't go away after flashing or hard resetting. Find it here
*Note: Please remember to use the donate button to show your appreciation to the software authors for allowing you this functionality
2) Custom ROMs
2a) List of custom roms here. Which cooked rom you use is up to you. On other devices, different cooked roms can offer different functionality and looks. On the HD however, I'm seeing cooked roms simply keeping up with new releases of WinMo and performance enhancements. I use Dutty's rom simply because he's an experienced rom cook and I've used his things on other devices, but you should read what each rom offers and decide for yourself.
Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!

Well summarised!!!

HTC Official ROM - No FM Radio

I have just installed the new HTC ROM (1.19.401.1) over my original Vodafone ROM, but have noticed that for some reason I no longer have an FM Radio. I used to use it quite a bit on the Vodafone ROM, so any ideas why its missing on the official HTC ROM and more importantly, how do I get it back?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521356
or install EnergyRom Genesis (see my sig), the ROM is much better than stock and the radio app is already installed. The standard version is extremely stable, with the added bonus of WinMo 6.5, you won't look back!
Just a note of caution. You would have to install Hard SPL on your phone to install/flash any custom ROM. Which would void the warranty of your device.
Almost all Custom ROMs that are released here on XDA have FM Radio installed in them. So you can try any ROM.
But you are someone who is not aware of how ROM Flashing works... please take time to read through the stickys first before going ahead with it.
Its DEFINITELY not like installing a CAB.
Good luck.
Thanks for that. You are correct that I am new to flashing ROM's - although I have been using HTC devices for sometime now - but seeing as Vodafone have been so unco-operative when it comes to updating their ROM and also insisting on their horrible Red theme, then I figured I'd give it a shot.
I suppose worse can scenario would be if the phone ever needed to go back for repair, I could also ensure that the latest version of their ROM was installed.
Question answered.
Please search and read the sticky posts before starting a new thread. You'll find most common questions are answered somewhere .
Thanks
Dave
