I just got a Diamond (XDA Ignito radio 05, os 19965, rom 1.93.206.6 WWE)
I was shocked at how slow and laggy it was.
I have had loads of HTC and other winCe devices before and was amazed at how bad the software was for such a powerfull device (192mb ram, 528mhz cpu, etc.)
I immediately started to decide which ROM I wanted to upgrade to.
anyhow, after a day of usage its become inexpicably faster, even slick. It still has lags and it still is not what I would expect for the spec., but its perfectly usable now.
anyone else had this experience ? am I completely mad ?
I still want to upgrade to a faster ROM (any suggestions for the fastest), but I am not panicing so much now.
seems like real weird behaviour.
yes.
the ROMs have to 'bed in', once it has cashed files etc it will be quicker. You will find this happens after flashing.
I would recommend Dutty's 2.8, if you just want a quicker stable ROM. Using Wildberry atm, seems good. has some prettier touches to it
Hello,
I now own my Kaiser for about one year (or a little less). But I'm still not satisfied about the overall speed of the device. I'm not talking about reading videos or playing games, just about "normal" use of the Kaiser.
For exemple, opening the HTC phone application (dial pad) takes around 3 seconds. Then, if I dial a number quickly, it "forget" some buttons I pushed. I need to dial my number slowly for the phone to take each button I push ... This is very frustrating !
Another exemple is going to landscape mode which takes 4 seconds ! And when it is in landscape, my Kaiser is like freezed for about 2 other seconds before I can use it.
A 3rd exemple, when answering calls: my Kaiser rings, I press the green button to answer, but it takes around 2-3 seconds before it does really answer. In the mean time, I sometimes loose my call, and this is really frustrating again !
I know I'm only talking about seconds, but I use my Kaiser a lot in a day, and these seconds become minutes ! And when I need to use my Kaiser quickly, these seconds appear much longer than they really are.
My ROM is the original HTC 6.1 ROM. My Kaiser is as light as possible (no Manilla 2D !), but it does not seem to be enough for my Kaiser to be fast.
I tried some cooked ROMS, but from what I experienced the HTC 6.1 is the faster. I also tweaked my Kaiser with all the informations I could find on this great forum (and KaiserTweak)
I would really enjoy an overclocker utility but it does not exist.
So, about you, are you satisfied with your Kaiser speed ?
Isn't there days where you would throw it against a wall because of these anoying lags ?
Thanks !
If this damn thing eats another microSD card I AM going to throw it against the wall. I'm getting tired of loosing my crap and having to re-do everything.
what about the speed of your ka
iser : is it ok for you ?
No complaints about the "speedyness" of the tilt after flashing to a good ROM. If another one fails I'm sending it back and demanding an upgrade to a Fuze tho.
i haven't had mine for very long but I got a little over-excited in the first few weeks and installed anything i could get my hands on. i just did a hard reset, followed by a soft reset to remove the bloatware, and i've noticed that my phone is a lot faster.
your problems do sound infuriating, have you tried backing up your data and wiping the slate clean?
Dear,
Same problems as yours... Using same rom from HTC !
Very slow phone for each task i need
Boring phone when hang-up or dialing, boring when using tt6 and now tt7 (too slow when driving in little streets, and sometimes truncating voices messages), and more generally, very very slow (and i do not speak about camera).
Sure, this version is really a big bug
Comparing to other kind of phones, even cheaper models runs better (camera better and faster, gps fix faster, gps available even in flight mode.
Usually, when opening keyboard, applications hangs due to the screen rotation, and become available a long time after
Definitively, a real diseapointing device.
I'm now waiting for the renewal of my phone contract to change for something better (sure that is not difficult to find)
Regards,
Laurent
I highly recommend flashing a custom rom.
The rom chef's have done a fantastic job tweaking them to run much faster than the stock roms. Try on and you'll never look back.
I'm currently using the Nov 15'th Hyperdragon Rom and I have virtually no complaints about the speed of the rom for day to day activities. M2D runs very smoothly and is much more friendly to your fingers than any of the stock roms I've used.

Thanks a lot ! i did the hard reset followed by the soft reset , then I restored my data : now my Kaiser goes faster ! thanks again !
I have the same issue, not that the kaiser is really slow, but when I compare it with a Wizard (both have custom roms) the Wizard does things a lot faster, like opening start menu, scrolling isn't laggy, change tabs is fast. No matter what rom I use on my kaiser, I can't get to the use speed of the Wizard. Maybe it is because I install programs on the SD instead of the phone itself?
Nothing to Compare to
I don't have anything to really compare to, but my Kaiser - Bloatware removed - seems to work well. My only real complaint is that ending a call with the touchscreen takes a few seconds, but the red end key ends it pretty quick. If there is a delay on some things, it is far outweighed by the functionality I feel I'm getting from my tilt. I use it as primary pc - email, web, movies, word, excel, etc..
I tell people it is a mini computer with a phone added on as an afterthought. That is why with comes with such a crappy phone interface. I downloaded a new skin and it looks and works excellent.

Call ending speed can be instant. Use Kaiser Tweak / Advanced Config tool to change this.
I noticed a marked improvement since I use some of the SKTools utilities like:
- Optimize! http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_feat.html
- FreeUP RAM Service http://s-k-tools.com/?m_freeuprams.html
- Registry optimization http://s-k-tools.com/?/sktools/m_regopt.html
It has many other features and you can download a trial. It's really worth a try.
dear all,
how can you say that the kaiser isnot slow ?
I use PIE to read this forum, this thread takes 30 to 40 sec to load for 470 kB, while it takes few seconds to dowload bigger files !
I only use pie,tt7 and outlook sync for contacts and appointments.
I also tested 3 roms and tried to tweak some settings, without getting a normal speed.
kaiser is definitively a slow computer with a phone.
basic phones are more responsives than kaiser on many bundled applications.
I do think that kaiser has a lake of something... Maybe some drivers are missing, because if you look at the internal chipset used inside the kaiser, it should very very more powerfull
Call ending speed can be instant. Use Kaiser Tweak / Advanced Config tool to change this.
Please enlighten me, because I hate this. I have to push the button multiples times to disconnect. I have SK Tools as well. It has many good features, unfortunately some of the things it recommends tweaking I have idea what those things are for. I need the cheat sheet for invalid registry entries and values.
I do experience what you describe and I've tried many different ROMs, right now I'm using Garmin.Dk 8 without Manila2d and all the "speed fixes" available.
It's just like that, it has Windows...
But on the other hand, I like that, because it makes it very customizable.
Depends on what you value most.

I had the same issue with dialing numbers. It pissed me off so much I bought an iPhone. I don't have issues with dialing numbers now. I really miss running custom ROMs though.
The iPhone has a lot of other issues, I put up with them because the web browsing experience is better and I can dial without loosing numbers. I wish HTC would get it together, they are very close... I tried a Sprint HTC Touch Pro for a couple of days and couldn't get used to the missing dpad.

dear Spaul,
Windows is not the problem... Other htc phones have Windows and are fast. i.e. TYTN I is faster !
Problem is software, maybe drivers or hardware layer

He has to keep up because he realizes the other 99% of the WM functionality is missing on his new phone and he'll want to come back.
Same thing here
Yeah I experience exactly the same things with mine. I'm not going out the custom ROM path, since it's a company phone. After having tried all sorts of things, I've kind of just accepted its slowness.
But one thing is for sure. After using first the s710, and the the tytn-ii, I'm 95% sure that my next phone is not going to be a HTC, unless I see some very convincing real life demo of the device.
I have a HTC TynTynII or whatever it's called.
I was forced to buy one to keep "updated", with EDGE data capacity, but never wanted to buy a small screen device (this was before the HTC Touch HD was introduced), as I had been using my XDAII 's and forced to use my backups, XDAIIs's...
Now, as the XDAIIs's had pissed me off with various problems and lack of proper speakerphone, these are the deficiencies I find of Kaiser:
1. Speakerphone *totally* unusable (the XDAIIs was bad, but this is *hopeless*)
2. Cannot forward SMS's using EM (WM6.0 or 6.1 limitation).
3. Of course, HTC wouldn't let me upgrade to the latest 6.1 at the time I had bought the device, using my serial number of the unit purchased in Singapore. (Of course, we can use the cooked ROM's, but why??)
4. Touch sensitivity totally sucks with a screen protector, even though I have used these with my XDAII and XDAIIs units. When pressing hard sometimes, it elicits *no* reactions whatsoever, then opens up something else...
5. OS is totally "whacked-out" as compared to WM2003 - I have no idea why they have gone insane with these previously only used menus for the smartphones! One requires more menu/key-presses to execute mail retrieval, etc., as compared to WM2003!
6. Cannot use fingertips for typing entries, nor to close apps. (screen size issue)
7. Processor seems to be a power-saving one, that delays action, as compared to the one in the XDAII, which kicks a**, as compared to the XDAIIs or Kaiser.
8. No blinking SMS light (even though this was selected in the options) when receiving SMS - also no vibration noted.
9. OS is more buggy than WM2003 - sometimes completely stopping the phone, requiring the reboot of the device.
10. To be continued...
I'll update the list with more of my findings above, but welcome feedback....
Sounds awful. You should just send it to me. I'll give it a good home.

You'd think that'd be the case but in my experience running numerous official Kaiser ROMs, the one I have now far surpasses any WM 6.1 official ROM for stability. No broken GPS problems, no screen flashes coming out of powersaving mode, no unwanted pauses out of the blue. Yes it's slightly slower eg in redrawing the screen from portrait to landscape and back again and during boot it takes longer, but it's far more stable! Flashing to the Official WM 6.1 ROM would be like jumping out of the frying pan, into the fire so the o/p needs to consider this!

Flying Kiwi, I gather you are running a 6.0 ROM?
Are you on FT, btw?
I want my XDAII (both of them) back...maybe I'll buy a used one - problem is that it doesn't support EDGE or higher data, but in India (where I spend most of my time) it makes no difference - they don't give you the speed anyway!
One gets faster GPRS data in Singapore (StarHub) than on any Indian GSM carrier with EDGE!
Yeah, HSDPA, Edge, GPRS, it all boils down to how much your ISP allocating the bandwidth from the base station to it's internet gwy. No point having HSDPA if the base station is linked to their gwy with 128kbps line.
However, most of your complain about Kaiser, I don't find it for me. Perhaps you get a 'lemon'? My touchscreen is great, even the finger close (the corner task manager) works better than my previous Sony Ericsson M600.

Yeah, everything he said. I've been using mine for over a year and I don't really have any complaints at all. It's my best friend. SMS, EMAIL etc all work great and I can do EVERYTHING with my chubby sausage like fingers.
IMHO
I think you should learn to flash roms, I was not happy with my kaiser when I first got it but I started reading more and found how to flash roms and now I love it! find a more finger friendly rom and use it! Hope this helps if not send me the kaiser and I'll give him a good home!
I agree Rpearly1, I was so pissed at my tilt at first because the stock AT&T rom sucked ass. I removed the bloatware and it still sucked ass. I left it that way for about 6 months because I was too scared to brick my phone, but the whole flashing process is remarkably simple, I mean a complete novice who barely knows a computer could do it as long as they read around a bit and follow the directions. Now I'm a flashaholic.

Maybe not - sometimes I have to press really hard...could be the delay of the OS not reacting then...
I've now been running official non-hacked 6.5 ROM for the duration it's been out officially.
- Performance is worse than 6.1, esp on the Manila interface I use
- I've had 2 hard crashes (had to pull out the battery)
- many screen drawing glitches
- several times needed to restart the phone, because some part stopped working properly
- missed too many calls / messages to count
Now, my phone was working reasonably ok with 6.1. haven't dropped it a single time.
Only system level app / tweak I've installed is Pocket Shield 3.2 (and NetCF 3.5 which is reguired).
Is there anything that could be done to make the 6.5 more stable? Any tips?
Or, is there an unofficial ROM that people have found to be more *more stable* than the official (heaven forbid)?
I'm getting really bored with this phone and am ready to toss it, if I can't get it running properly anymore. This is daily tool for me, not a toy, so I'm rather non-plussed that the upgrade was this bad.
People here actually run stock ROMs?
I think that what you'll find depends entirely on you. The stock ROM I ran was OK. Bit of a memory hog, rather bloated for my taste, but ran pretty smoothly and seemed stable. So, either we have different tastes (and we do), we ran different stock ROMs (definitely seems the case), or both. I'm betting both.
Improving the stability of a stock ROM? Yeah, that's kinda what the chefs here do when they cook up a ROM. I suppose you could probably get serious about tweaking it and playing with things....but why? Go flash a few ROMs, and find one that suits you and your needs. I have yet to see a ROM that's worse than stock. (Well, in the Kaiser days there was one....lol, but it thankfully never was posted on XDA.)
I didn't see if you specified which OEM ROM you have been using. I'm using the TILT 2 (ATT) Stock ROM for about a week and it is very stable and responsive. It, like all ATT ROMs, is very bloated leaving limited memory, but I have yet to have a problem due to out of memory issues.
So far, I am quite impressed, as this is not what I have become accustomed to with AT&T bloat ROMs.
I have upgraded the radio, as when I unlocked had to reflash it. In fact, I have been so impressed with the stock, that I have been reluctant to reflash it at this point. I haven't looked in to doing the hard reset or soft reset other than with the power button.
What apps have you loaded on top of the stock ROM? Maybe you have loaded something that doesn't play well?
I haven't been a ROM user yet on the Rhodium forum, but I know that I had very good success with NRG's ROMs on the Fuze and he is cooking here now as well. I'm sure there are some other very nice ROMs.
Also, have you tried a hard reset?
v/r
try one of the non stock 6.5 218xx builds that are cooked up by the chefs here, they tend to be way more stable and responsive than the stock roms. im having a great time with miri's rom
Thanks for all the replies.
The bug lists for almost all non-stock ROMs have scared me away so far.
I don't want a bleeding edge ROM. I wish for a stable one and the stock was a horrible disappointment.
I start pruning down my installs. I have had very little on top of the STOCK. Just Pocket Shield and couple off non-resident apps (mini opera, etc).
Now I'll just zap the whole phone and start from scratch with nothing on it.
Maybe it'll stop crashing.

Agree with you. i am using WM6.5 Official HTC Europe Version, same problem
I've been running the Timor.7.1 optimized T-Mobile ROM for 2 days straight with absolutely no issues at all.
I previous had the AthineOS rom and NRG and some other rom and they were unstable except the NRG rom, I just dind't like the NRG rom.
Im happy with my phone
vasra, you haven't listed where you are, which carrier or which version of the Rhodium you're using.
If you've got a Tilt2 I'd recomend At0mAng's Fusion V6.0 HTC Sense 2.1 ATT Version
He said V6.0 will be out later today. That's is probably the best At&t rom out at the moment.
My advice, go back to 6.1, there are no perfect roms on this forum. Always something here and there, you have to flash almost all of them and find what works best for you. For example some ppl was reporting some prob with energy rom regarding video call, since Im in the U.S. and we dont have that so to me its not a bug, just an example. So find what works for u, dont listen too much to what bugs are being report by users all over the world, if you cant do that, go back to 6.1
Thanks for all the replies again.
I'm on WWE / Euro English GSM/3G ROMs, phone bought in the Netherlands, but used all over Europe.
BTW, I wasn't aware I can go back to 6.1. How can I do this?
I think I'll test a couple of the builder ROMs, once an 'official' 6.5.1 ships, which I hope fill fix some of the 6.5 official bugs.
I also uninstalled Pocket Shield completely, which took away some of the problems I was having, but not all. Plus now I have to be content with the inane built-in "lock" system of 6.5. Grrrrr...
the HTC 6.5 rom comes with alot of apps you never going to use (well some people)
the Timo rom that is 6.5 posted here on the forum he just removed alot of microsoft apps and twerk it a lil bit..
You should try
the touch sense 2.0 b rom, very fast, energy rom is very slow
The HTC Official 6.5 ROM is the best ROM I've run. Fast, Smooth, Stable. Sure it uses more RAM and has more apps installed by default but who cares if cooked ROMs use less RAM and have less crap on them if they're constantly crashing and not operating properly. No offense to all the brilliant cooks out there, your ROMs are much cleaner and tidier than the default ROMs, but until I see a cooked ROM that doesn't fully drain my battery within 12 hours (every cooked ROM I've used does this) and is bug free, I'll be sticking to the official HTC ROM.
Hi,
I wanted to know if there is any way to run a different OS on this phone that supports all of the hardware.
I love the specs of this phone - and the form factor, however, it doesn't matter which ROM I use, the phone is just so unbearably slow. Even with the light ROMs.
I simply hate Windows Mobile. The processor is not that slow - it should be able to do plenty - but everything takes 3 seconds at least to open. I've missed an inordinate number of phone calls just because the stupid send button takes 10 seconds to respond.
Is there any option at all to forgo a WM ROM and use a different OS entirely?
How can I take advantage of the amazing hardware - but not be dragged down by the software?
HELP!
Moved as not ROM Development.
Try flashing stock then ROM, changing Hard-SPL.. etc.
Never had problem with slow OS unless the ROM is an issue to which is very uncommon..
If it really takes 10 seconds to get the phone to answer a call...
One thing to check is memory -- Do you have a lot of stuff in your calls list or MMS texts? Clear them out.
Which ROMS have you tried? Any 6.1 or 6.5s?
There is no other usable OS now -- Android is getting close but it won't work with all the phone's components
OS Lag

The last ROM I flashed that's exactly what I did - I flashed to a stack ROM - changed the Hard SPL.
The ROM I love - Shifu did a phenomenal job - but after a while - everything just begins to lag...and it's not just this ROM - it's every ROM. After a few weeks - everything just starts to miss a beat and then slowly unravel.
I'm surprised that you've never had any problems with the OS - the consensus is that WM is a generally slow OS - I just thought maybe there's a way to take advantage of the great hardware in the phone without having to use this OS.
Thanks for the advice though.
If you have any other suggestions - they would be much appreciated.

Maybe not 10 seconds - but I have missed plenty of calls because the phone was completely unresponsive.
I do have a LOT of SMS' - maybe that's it. I just flashed to a new ROM (jjblaster3's 6.5) - it's great for now. I hope it stays that way. But they all start off great...you start installing a few programs and then nothing moves.
Thanks for the SMS/call history advice - I'll start clearing out now.
Anything else you can think of would be great.
I went through similar problems. Currently I am using the ROM "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428261". This was the best ROM that I tested for my Kaiser.
I was not very fan of windows mobile too, because that i installed android at sdcard and recently found a very good application "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623792" to streamline the boot process for the android, without having to wait for the windows mobile start and then boot the android. Android is fantastic, but as has already been said not everything works. The GPS and camera are the major problems yet.
Thanks

Thanks for the advice - I'm not going to head down the Android route yet...but I will check out the ROM you suggested. Have you tried any 6.5 ROMs you liked? I'm running jjblaster3 6.5 v2 right now.
Well personally, I like the STAXXX STYLE ROMs...they are 6.5.3...and VERY fast in my opinion.
ROM Suggestions
Thanks for the suggestion, any ROM recommendations would be much appreciated, here is what I'm looking for:
1) A fast ROM
2) No bugs with common things like text messages, bluetooth, WiFi, Internet
3) Good battery life
4) And if possible - 6.5 - but not mandatory
I know a LOT of hard work goes into cooking the ROMs, so I'm not complaining - but I've found that there are always small bugs that are real deal breakers for me.
I've tried:
1) AthineOS Manila Edition
Text issues, backlight issues
2) Shifu (3.2)
Text issues, screen rotation issues, wifi issues, phone got stuck a lot towards the end (had to soft reset twice a day at times)
3) Jjblaster3 v2
Battery life (very poor - need to charge twice a day) - because there is no easy way to switch between 3G and GPRS (any quick fix for this?)

I have actually already downloaded that one - so as soon as my battery is more than 50% - I'll flash.
Thanks!
Do you know of anything to look out for bug-wise?
