Hey Guys, Need a little help!
Ok, I bought a G1 from eBay (I know I know bit risky!). Recieved it today, put in my Sim card (Orange UK), and it's opened up into the setup (login to gmail blah blah time settings), got into the phone mode, but it's not picking up any network on my SIM card
I can get internet (After inputting the APN settings..)
I have looked on the "About" status, and noticed the telephone number is: 07********58622#
I don't know where the 622# is coming from, because it isn't my phone number!
I go to the Network Selection, Choose Orange, and it says "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"
Any idea's?
when you call your number does your phone ring? and can you place calls with your real number showing up? if yes then i see no problem
Nope, I can't ring out, and I can't recieve incoming calls.
That number is on your sim card, not the phone. It shouldn't effect service though. Infact Mine was 00000000000 until a few months ago when some app wouldn't work because that number wasn't correct. Call TMo and say "google phone" when you get someone tell them you need your sim card updated.
Hi, thanks for that information, bit I have tried it in another g1 and everything worked as normal. Guess it's a hardware fault or a IMEI block
I have the same problem, and I don´t find de answer

Got my ignito the other day and realised yesterday that I haven't received any texts. The girlfriend also asked why I hadn't replied to her messages, and when I tried to send a message it comes up with:
Your text cannot be sent, check service center address in settings

Have looked through the settings and cannot find anywhere where to input the service centre number for O2. Also tried t O2 and O2 service settings programs in the program list, and they have problems connecting to retrieve any settings. Also on the O2 customer forum other people don't seem to have this problem.
Also have called customer services and even they are a bit unaware and wern't even in the know that this phone had been released. The data service guy over there hasn't even got any settings to push to the phone and has gone off to look for some.
Any ideas ?
Edit: The technical guy talked me through going into strat->settings and the phone area, then clicking on services and the 'voice mail and text messages' then retriving the settings to get to the message centre number. But when i do this the error thrown up says:
Cannot read settings from the network, try viewing settings later or disconnect data connection and try again.

Tried taking out battery and a hard eset and nothing has helped. The only thin I have done to the phone is update to HARD-SPL but have not flashed a custom ROM yet. Could this be the problem at all, as I didn't test the SMS before updating this ?

Might not help but have you tried removing sim and replacing?

Ye the customer service guy got me to do that, and reset, but still the same. Just tried it again and still nothing. Will try my friends SIM card in the ignito to make sure it isn't my old SIM card.
Just managed to send an MMS to someone on the desk next to me at work, so just seems like MMS. Fiddling with different settings in the MMS, like gateway number ports etc, and MMS still works with a number of possible settings but no SMS.
Really hope I didn't screw it up with the HARD SPL, but will try other versions of that tonight.
Cleaned the SIM and nothing, plus a big thing I CAN RECEIVE TEXTS, but still can't send them. But in the phone settings area I can connect to the network for all the other options like call barring, caller ID, call forwarding, and call waiting, just not the voicemail and SMS option.
Lol comedy of errors.
start>settings>connections>advanced network
SMS Tab
there will be 4 possible settings here.
I sugest you try each of them, with a powercycle between each attempt just for good measure.
I had this on T-Mobile - the Sim didn't input the settings on install.
Go to phone > menu > options > services > voice and text settings and click get settings, you can try to input the service centre if it isn't there or wrong.
Cheers for that boys but still no luck. Tried all the GSM GPRS settings in the SMS tab and still the same.
ericson68, tried that lots the day I realised i was having text problems, plus the guy on the phone from O2 got me to try that, but as soon as i click on the SMS/voicemail settings tab it rejects it and says unable to contact. All other tabs on there can be conected to, like call baring etc, just the texts one which is screwed.
O2 have offered to give me a new one when a courier comes to collect the old one. only problem is my billing address is my parents house where the box is, so have to send the phone back to them tomorrow through our royal fail post system. Special delivery time I think.
Could the hard SPL upgrade have affected this in anyway, Im still running the ROM that came with it though ?
Just out of interest if you do a hard reset and then insert the sim do you get a notification asking to set up o2, or is your phone o2 branded?

The phone is O2 branded and has O2 software on it as well.
I have just hard reset it without the SIM card in and it installs some O2 things going through the progress bar, and also brings up a page to do with O2 GPRS settings and automatically configuring it.
another try

Is it possible to type in the number and tap ok. That should initiate the phone/network with the message center number..
If there is a number there, what number is it?

Change the SIM card
Hi,
if you search the forum you will see that several people have the same problem, including myself...
Anyways, only solution (so far) is to change the SIM card. So just change your SIM card with your provider and it should work (this is probably free or really cheap anyways, you keep the same number etc.).
I have an unlocked Diamond and the same problem. Only my SIM card with Telenor provider does not work. Other Telenor cards work and also cards from different provider work.
So just change the SIM card and it should work (some people already tried it and it worked, I am too lazy to go to the store, but I will do it soon. until then I have another SIM card (different number) which works fine)
Cheers!
was this number ported to o2, or was it a new contract?
i had the same problem in the first 24 hours, worked fine after that.
Hey
Sorry didn't reply. Just after my last post I tried a friends SIM card at work and it worked fine, so must be my old sim card (5 yrs). My contract was an upgrade and have been with O2 for those 5 yrs.
New card on way to me now, thanks for all the help !
Custom ROM time this weekend
how can I set SMS center in HTC diamond?
I can't send sms and it said I should set my SMS Center in setting
please help me
You should ask your operator for a new SIM card. I got the same error message and after days trying all kinds of ways, I still couldn't set the SMS center number. Then I read about others having the same problem. In all cases a new SIM card proved to be the only solution. And it also worked for me. So, good luck!
Settings>Personal>Phone>Services>Voice Mail and Text Messages...Get Settings...
You can change the Message Center number there. By default it takes the number from the SIM.
this problem only exist in this phone and my other cellphones didn't have problem with my SIM card I test it on P990 and N6681. Also I test it with 2 other oparators SIM
also when try to get Settings... it said Cannot read settings from the network. Try viewing settings later, or disconnect data connection and try again.

I finally went to the local Telfort shop, after I read about the SIM cause/solution. I showed the same error message and swapped SIM's with the girl behind the counter. Her newer SIM worked on my Diamond and my older SIM worked on her Nokia. That proved the combination of my older SIM and the Diamond was the problem. So I got a new SIM for free and now no more problems getting settings and sending SMS
I test my SIM and SMS Center setting exist in SIM card,
anyone know that this problem is related to SPL, RADIO or OS? or may be SIM Lock?
I can recieve SMS and also call with all 3 SIMs

It could be the radio version.. Apart from that I wouldn't know if it's related to anything specific in the Diamond. It looks like there's nothing wrong with my SIM unlocked Diamond and it looked like there wasn't anything wrong as such with my previous SIM, either, as I could send SMS with it on other devices.
Somehow, it's is the combination of those two together. Like you, except for getting the Voice Mail and Text Messages settings, I could receive SMS, call and get all the other network settings with the old SIM. With the new SIM, I can send SMS and get the Voice Mail and Text Messages settings.
but my problem appear after ROM upgrade, before that I used my SIM and phone for more than 2 month
also I used 2 other sims from other oparators and this operator non of them working

I know. I didn't have a problem either with my previous SIM on the stock 1.37 ROM. The problem appeared after flashing a 1.93 ROM. So if you want to keep using your current SIM's, or can't get a newer SIM, you can also flash back your previous ROM and see if that works for you..

I have this problem too!
Although there's already a substitute card on the way...
My card's sms center works ok on normal phones, but not on diamond and ipaq 614c, testes some version's only...
BUT:
Today I tested it on a Qtek S200 with a WM6.1 and it worked fine! strange...
3 network recently prevented me using my payg sim so I switched to O2 and transferred my old phone number. But the phone still displays the number which came with the O2 sim card. Is this hard wired into the sim card or is there any way I can change it through the registry, or whatever?
Any help appreciated
What do you mean by "The phone still displays the phone number which came with your O2 SIM card" ???
Where does the phone display it? Make a screenshot but xxx out your phone number for privacy reasons!
Isn't the Phone Number set in Settings, "Owner Information"?

Mine does exactly the same, if you go to Sim Manager it displays the original sim number and not my tranfered one. No great shake though, unless you dont know your own number.
But just found that you can change this.. In Sim Manager go to Menu_Tools_List of Own Numbers, then edit voice line 1.. Job done.

That information you can edit yourself. I am not surebut I do believe it is somewhere under SETTINGS -> PHONE ...

Most cool. Did that restarted, after removing sim + battery, and voila it worked. Never noticed 'Sim Manager' before. You would have thought that Settings the more appropriate place for it
Most obliged - I like to be tidy/organised Knew this was the place to ask
Got a new problem with my G1, basicaly I used my phone placed it in my pocket went out then when I next checked my phone I had no signal, I didn't take too much notice of it. When I got home and also there I had no signal, did the obvious rebooting, no joy. Then I did a wipe restarted the phone, still no signal now this is the strange part I had 3g because my phone let me sign in also started syncing my phone contact. I can browse on the net also download from the market but when i dial a number I get the message Not registered on network. So when I went to settings/call settings/network operators/available networks clicked on t-mobile it says Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network. Then just for fun try it with the other network operators same message. Also my sdcard was reformated.
Then I downgraded to rc7 (dreaming.nbh) rebooted no call signal but can browse and use market so I've updated to android 1.5 ota still no joy any ideas I planing to take to a t-mobile store let them check it also has anyone else had this problem before.

Sounds like a problem with your network, not with your phone. Either that, or your SIM card is fried. Assuming you're on T-Mobile from your post, you need to contact them for a new SIM card (you can do this inside any of their stores.)

It really may be the SIM card or the SIM card reader in your phone (more likely the SIM card) it may work on another phone
try cleaning the contacts (the ones on the phone, not the ones IN the phone) ?
Call customer service and ask them to take you off whatever tower your phone is now on? suposebly pulling the battery will do it to.. Also get Anycut and make a short cut to phone info an toggle radio on off?
same problem occasionally

i'VE had the same issue, occasionally, I'm fairly certain its the sim card, not the phone. you can take the battery out, pull out the sim card, clean it up (don't use watter or anything that'll scratch it of course) and put it back in, make sure its securely in there, and boot up the phone, however, I've also noticed that sometimes in the middle of the night (like around 2AM to 330AM PST) sometimes cell coverage gives out for t-mobile where I'm at (friends confirmed), if you only just recently recieved 3g in yoru area, they are doing maintenance to get it up and running perfectly, so don't fret too much
EDIT:
Another thing I did was made sure to mess with the APN settings. dont' edit them, just try and change your APN from T-mobile to ATT, wait for it to say "not supported by sim" and then switch back over to T-mobile, that worked for me twice now
I'm having this same problem, only I can't surf the web or use the market. :\ Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Sorry to reply so late but the probem is now solved, this is what I did, I took out my sim card out the phone put it in an old phone to see if my sim had any issues but I forgot to take out the sim and put it back in my g1 went sleep.
Next morning put the sim in my g1 and all is fine got connection and all functions working, then waited a few hours no problems at all.
So I rerooted installed the danger spl and custom rom and the probem has just vanished, haven't got the slightest clue why that happened or what caused it.
The sim is new just under a month old lost my old 1 uk t-mobile charged me just under a £10 for a new 1 even if your on contract thiefs

its probably
A) the SIM got dislodged or
b) your G1 contacts were dirty.
All the above could cause the phone to not read the information on the SIM
Blowing the dust out/wiping the goldcontacts where the sim goes, and tightly inserting the sim might help, grandmegabosses
My apologies to the administrators for double posting. I posted in the wrong forum.
I am unable to send sms but can receive on my rooted Galaxy Note N7000.
When I check the Phone Information by dialing *#*#4636#*#*, the SMSC: field is blank.
If I click on refresh, it returns "00".
If I attempt to enter the number manually it just returns "update error".
I'm assuming that the number is stored on the SIM card and for some reason the phone can't read/access the stored number. This happened once before after rooting the phone and all I had to do then was hit refresh and update.
I re-checked from time to time and saw that the SMSC field was blank sms messages were sending correctly.
I tried installing Gingerbread 2.3.6 but I'm not sure is this was completely successful. The Settings > About Phone confirms the version as 2.3.6
but
1. it made no difference to the SMSC problem
2. all my settings, data and apps are still there.
3. the phone is still rooted.
I assumed all that would get wiped with a f/w upgrade. The instructions I followed said the phone would be reverted to non-rooted. I guess I must have got something wrong.
I talked to a guy at my local telco today. He spotted that the phone was rooted so was quick to blame that (maybe correctly) as the cause. However, when I showed him the settings page revealed by the *#*#4636#*#* string, he thought this was some software app I'd installed myself and not the phone's f/w till he typed the string on his own phone and saw it for himself.
Can anyone suggest a fix? Un-rooting? Wait for the next official Android upgrade for my phone/region?
Thanks in advance
Trevor
is your Msg center number is correct?
Go to Msging - setting - msg center number - confirm it with your operator/other person using same network.
Hmmm, interesting question. I checked with my telco today and they confirmed the correct SMSC number is 96197777 or this number with the country code prefix, +65 96197777. I'm in Singapore.
I checked my wife's phone and this is also the number she has on her SIM card.
So, I decided to try a trick I read about on the net last night. I put my SIM card in the wife's phone and manually entered 96197777. Then put the SIM card back into the Note and hit refresh (the SMSC field is always blank by default until I hit refresh).
The number that came up was 06915669917777!
I don't recognise this number but it works. I put my SIM card back into the wife's phone and it shows the number I entered - 96197777. I wonder WTF is going on.
Thanks for replying.
UPDATE
I just realised you were talking about the Settings in the Messaging App itself which I missed. Apologies for not reading coirrectly. The Message Centre number was blank so I've now entered +6596197777 and sent a message successfully. I'm still confused about which number is being used though. Maybe the one on the SIM card is ignored but if that's the case, why was I able to send messages with NO number entered in the messaging app itself?
Sorry for the long winded story.
