Is this possible? And if so can someone send me a cab file or instructions on how to make this happen. And sorry if this has been addressed already. This is my 1st official post. I have an AT&T Tilt with STOCK HTC AT&T ROM. Just upgraded the HTC Camera with one of the cab files I found on this site. Also I am having a bit of difficulty uninstalling two applications.
Wizard_reTouched_dial2.cab and today_wallpaper_pack.exe
I went to the normal start/settings/system/remove programs and I see them both in the list but i am unable to uninstall them. HELP!!!!!!
As long as you have a 3G / HSDPA / UMTS signal, you will be able to talk and use internet at the same time. If you are only on edge or gprs, you can NOT. This is covered many places in this forum........ Searching is your friend.....

Travel to a location where there's clear 3G reception. Unless you've configured your phone away from default settings, it'll automatically default to the most useful signal it can get.
If you're using the stock ATT ROM then use bandswitch. If you're using custom ROM then it's in the phone settings. I use Garmin DK3 Final and it's in the phone settings. I can set it to connect only to UMTS band and only to HSDPA. I cant stand the 2G buzz when ever I'm around any speakers.
Are you referring to the Radio Version
or the actual ROMPaq? I am using AT&T/HTC Stock Rom but I am using the Radio Version from Japan.. 1.71.09.01

From what I know of, Japan uses a different frequency band than the rest of the world for 3G (800MHz). So you might not be able to connect to 3G networks in the US with that radio version. Do you ever see a "3G" or "H" icon for the network status?
No only E of course for EDGE
Cot Darnarbit!!! I might as well go back to the STOCK Radio Version I was running.
Hey guys, I figured this would be the right place to ask this, although it's more of an Android OS question than a Dream specific question, but...
So whenever I lose signal to the cellular network, my phone doesn't auto-refresh/search for signal even when I'm in a location where I know I'm getting full signal. Everytime I lose the signal I have to manually search for a network operatore. Is this a problem with the OS? My specific phone perhaps? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
HAve u updated to the newest radio? What rom and spl r u using?
I've been on the newest radio for quite some time. Currently on the haykuro SPL and using Cyanogen 4.0.2. as my ROM. I've also had this problem when I was previously using JF builds on HardSPL
Bump! Anything?
Does the problem occur as soon as a new rom is flashed, or after you have at some point manually set the network through settings? What carrier are you trying to use it on? What carrier was your phone intended for?
BTW you might want to try a subject more fitting for what you are asking. The post is about cellular connectivity problems rather than "wireless network" which implies it is 802.11b/g related.
The problem seems to persist no matter what ROM I'm using. I always have to specify my carrier in the mobile networks settings, T-Mobile, when I lose signal. I'm using the G1 on the T-Mobile network for which it is meant. I just titled it "Wireless Network" Problems b/c the settings are found under the Wireless Netowrk section of Settings
I am having a very strange issue:
Whenever I am at home, and my G1 is connected via 3G, I cannot use data or make/recieve calls. If I enable the "Use only 2g networks" checkbox, it reconnects via EDGE and works perfectly. I currently have a service request out with TMO which should resolve in the next 24-48 hours, but I was wondering if anyone had heard of this issue.
TMo has no idea why I'm not getting signal, the problem continued even when I reverted to stock "Cupcake".
Things I've tried:
Reverted to stock firmware and unrooted phone (Didn't work; same symptoms)
Call T-Mobile, they removed and re-added me to network. (Didn't work; same symptoms)
Swapped SIM card at T-Mobile store (Didn't work; same symptoms)
T-Mobile service request in my area (Results pending)
Things I am going to try, but haven't yet:
- Return to stock firmware, reinstall CM 4.2.7.1
- Try an older CM like 4.2.4 or 4.2.5
- Connect to WiFi for data connection, see if this replicates the problem as with 3G
- Enable data roaming.
The fact that it only happens at home leads me to believe it's not a problem with the phone, however I'm more than willing to do more to rule it out.
Phone Specs
T-Mobile G1
Firmware Version 1.6
Baseband Version 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I

Mod Version CyanogenMod 4.2.7.1
Build Number DRC83
Dont tell T-Mo that your rooted thats a big mistake right there, that can be used against you if you ever have to get the phone replaced.Play around with the apn settings and make sure "always on 2G" isnt checked in settings. Maybe your house isnt in the small 3G coverage area, or your phone cant connect to it. Why would you think data and talking at the same time would be possible? Its either you answer or you stop browsing the web.

Yes, thank you, I know not to tell them that, they have zero idea. I also forgot to mention they did swap out my SIM card at the store.
Read what I posted. Turning on "Always On 2G" is the ONLY WAY I can make calls and use data at home. When that isn't on, the phone says it has a 3g connection with four bars, but will not dial out, take calls, or connect to web pages. I've also verified my APN as epc.tmobile.com which is correct, and this affects my voice and data communications.

Try another rom to confirm you cant get 3G, it could also be HW failure. But just try a older cyanogen or something else.Ive cant get a 3G signal with cyanogen roms for long but with a hero rom i seem to get 3G(maybe its my imagination)

Rebooted phone between each of these tests:
3G With WiFi enabled: Same result, can't dial out.
Data roaming enabled, Wifi Disabled: No signal at all, 0 bars with "X" symbol.
Stock firmware: 3G won't dial out, forcing 2G works.
Downgraded to CM 4.2.4: Same symptoms.

That is what 3G provides.

That's not what I'm trying to do! When I am at home, on a 3G connection, I cannot do ANYTHING. That includes text, voice, data, web, ANYTHING. If i force it to use Edge, all services work properly. This is not acceptable. T-Mobile's coverage map lists me as in a strong 3G area. It SHOULD work.
I dont know what to say, except stay on edge, you alreadt sent a req to tmo.
I am having the exact same problem. Would love to learn what you found out.
Anyone experience no phone signal after flashing a ROM to your Pure? I got the device two days ago and immediately went to flash it using one of Duttys roms and also from Tess (IV). With both attempts I get no signal bars whatsoever. That being said I get an "H" where the "3G" used to be. I know that some of you have talked about the HSDPA but even though I have been doing this awhile I am stumped as to why I would get no signal bars. As long as HSDPA doesnt result in more charges from my provider I could care less about that. Hope that makes sense and I hope that someone has some information for me!
Thanks!

Hi, yes, I have seen the situation on some ROMs where I get 'no bars', but the phone seems to be operational anyway. My suspicion is that it's a problem with the root software from Microsoft, not the ROM chef, since it goes across ROMs.
3G vs. H has no bearing on the problem. The H just shows that the phone is connecting via the higher-speed data linkup. Some providers charge more for H, others don't. You'd have to check with yours.
Thanks for the quick reply. Is there a way to figure out if AT&T charges extra for the "H" connection speeds?
Also, are there any roms out there that have figured out a way to slightly increase the size of the virtual keyboard for easier typing? Both roms I have used so far have kept the keyboard the same and not sure if there is actually a way to increase the size. Lastly, I am reading up on roms trying to find one that I would like but one piece of information eludes me. Does the rom I am researching support landscape mode in Start and all other aspects? Right now I get landscape in web browsing, email and that is about it. I may be missing something here but thought I would ask for clarification.
A note about the Tess IV rom is that I really loved it. It was super smooth and very fast unlike the shipped rom from AT&T.
I found the original rom to be bulky and slow in responsiveness when moving between features or applications. I am sure that is why others moved away from it as well.
AT&T does not charge extra if you enable HSDPA. This is my second AT$T WM device and I have enabled "H" on both.

How do you enable "H" or force it on?
The type of signal is dependant on whats available in the area you are in. As far as I know you don't force "H" to come on, your phone just accesses the best available signal you allow. If " is it then.....
My att plan is the basic plan with the $30.00 data (unlimited) that is required when you buy it. No charges for "H" access for me.. good god, with the way I use slacker all the time, that would bankrupt me in a week.. lol

I'm using the ENERGY Leo ROM, and notice the same.
Thing is that while H is showing I get no bars and no phone connection. Then the phone automatically switches over to 3G and dials out. This can take up to 10 secs - so, can be annoying!
Could this be a locational thing, as I notice this happening in one location only - perhaps where the signal is not strong enough to utilise the H connection.
Or, is it that H is used for data and 3G only for telephone calls?
H is actually HSDPA and is the 3G data connection. 2G equivalent would be EDGE for example. You will only pick it up if A) Your device supports it, B) Your carrier provides it!!, and C) Your are in a stong enough signal area.
You mention that you flashed to a custom ROM but have you flashed your device to an updated Radio ROM? This is the part of the phone that deals with communications including Voice, Data, WiFi etc. Using a good one makes a world of difference.

Flashing a Radio is the same procedure that you would use for a custom ROM. Of course, many of you may already know all of the above but some people may not!

No, I thought the updated custom ROM would also update the radio.
What is your reccomendation for the radio?
How do I find out radio version I've got?
I dont have any specific useage beyond taking calls, and updating Twitter, weather etc.
What version do you think is best?

Some ROMs do include the radio, such as Dutty's HG 9 & 10 ROMs.
The radio version is usually included in the name of the ROM.
For best radio, it depends on your carrier and location.
To find your current version, soft reset, it is listed at the bottom next to "R" upon booting.

I checked my radio ROM - it was .17.
Just updated the radio to .91 - immediate improvment in access to 3G cellphone signal.
Of course, I need to use it for a couple of days to get an accurate feel for improvement.
BTW. I'm based in the UK.
I've had varying success using different versions but .57 has always been head & shoulders above the rest for me.
As always your mileage may vary
Hello I seem to have a problem and I am hoping someone can help. My phone is rooted running Modaco r20 Desire Rom. Radio is ERE27. I have a strong 3G signal in my town with T-mobile. My problem is that for some reason whenever I use data (internet, online gaming, searching using apps etc) the icon will stay on 3G then switch over to H. Sometimes it will stay on 3G and it will not allow any data. I know about the EDGE to 3G issues. I don't seen to have that issue. Can anyone help and or know why this happens?
Usually, when browsing the internet or anything is being downloaded at all - the 3G icon will switch to H. Really only in custom ROMs though, I don't really believe this happens in the stock ROM.. it's not a bad thing or a problem, at least not for me.
Data doesn't completely shut off for me though.
The "H" means you are achieving an HSDPA connnection of sorts. Stock does not have this icon in it, since HSDPA is a form of 3G and they didn't want people getting confused by it switching from 3G icon to H icon.
HSDPA is faster than basic UMTS, aka "3G"... so it is not a bad thing at all.
No idea why you loose your data connection all together when it switches, since it isn't doing anything other than recognizing you have a faster data connection than basic 3G, nothing is actually changing to cause you to lose your connection since it is still the same connection.

no it is not...
mine does the same thing... i have to twiddle my thumbs and wait when it switches between UMTS and HSDPA... they are different frequencies just like EDGE is on a different frequency...
I don't think UMTS and HSPA are on different frequencies, the same two frequencies are used (alternating for downlink/uplink) for both, those are 1700mhz and 2100mhz.
For some reason I don't have this problem on Long Island, but when I'm in the city this happens the whole time. Might be something to do with the way the network is configured. Basically whenever data is in use, it just says 3G, but as soon as I browse to a site or actually use data, it switches to H within a second or so. I think a stock ROM would technically be doing the same thing, but it just won't show the actual switch, as it doesn't differentiate between HSPA and UMTS in the top 'taskbar.' Although it would probably show this in the phone status screen under settings.

The "3G" to "H" (and back) is a "red herring". If it's "stuck" on 3G when you're trying to do data, it means your handset is having issues communicating in the AWS bands for 3G (2100/1700) and the handset hasn't dropped back to GSM/GPRS/EDGE (1900) yet or is attempting to switch frequencies and the associated towers aren't cooperating with the hand-off or the hand-off is failing.
Cheers,
Kermee

I'm in times square. My phone has never switch to UMTS. Either HSPA or EDGE.
also while it's idle it will only use 3G
it will switch to H to transfer data, then revert to 3G

Which Modaco ROM? If it is Desire, you have to flash the newest radio, and do it after flashing the ROM itself, otherwise you will have major Radio issues... at least that is my, and a fair number of other's, experience.

Yeah its Desire rom. I have radio ERE27 right now
Try upgrading to the newest one, 32.26.00.24U_4.04.00.03_2:
http://android.modaco.com/content/g...-online-kitchen-optional-root-insecure-himem/
Make sure you have at least 50% battery before flashing, just download and flash via recovery just like a ROM, do not panic, ever, during the process and do a battery pull, just wait for it to flash, then ask you to reboot, reboot, it will then do the actual radio flashing (you will see a box with arrow screen for a couple minutes) it will reboot on its own into recovery, say "writting" cache with a progress bar for a few seconds. The bar will go away, but the "writting cache" text will not, don't worry it is done, just reboot and then double check it flashed by going to about phone, software, and checking baseband version.
Just remember, can't stress this enough, do not pull your battery at all during this process. And make sure you have at least 50% battery before starting. Flashing a radio is the only way you can brick an N1 right now, and only if you pull the battery during the process, or have a bad download. Speaking of which, I do recommend checking the MD5 sum to make sure it is a good clean download.

Same thing happens with me. I'm in Phoenix myself with T-Mobile and running Cyan 5.0.5.3 with EPE54B and baseband v 32.26.00.24U_4.04.00.03_2.
I'll have full bars for 3G and when I goto check the market or anything internet related, the 3G will switch to H and work or stay at 3G and pause with connection error, retry or cancel.
I started having this issue after updating my factory stock radio. Anybody know which one is the stock/default radio IMG is? I'm thinking of downgrading and seeing what happens.
