Horizontal Keyboard Solution Request - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hey Guys, I was wondering if there is a low memory program that allows for horizontal texting and emailing with the Diamond. I've seen programs that can be used for all windows and programs but I only need a program which is for the keyboard when emailing and texting.
Thanks

Finger Keyboard supports landscape and its free:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501407
i don't think you can have a separate keyboard just for txt and emails.

How do you make it landscape? I've downloaded that and it doesn't seem to go landscape when I tilt it?

PocketCM V.015

Hi everybody,
I installed the PocketCM 0.15 in my Kaiser and the size of the program seems to be too big for the screen of the Kaiser...it seems to have been developed for the HTC Touch size...
By the way, I have tried to change the THEMES and the problem is still there. When, for instance, writing an sms with PocketCM using the HTC Keyboard, I am not able to see the last line of keys of the keyboard...
Do you guys know how to fix this?, is there any PocketCM size adapted for the Kaiser, Hermes, screen size??
Thank you all for the forum!
Looking forward for your comments.

Works fine on my Vario III.
Try running it in non full screenmode to see if that helps.
It is now up to v0.16, see if that solves your problem.

That doesn't really make sense. The Touch has the same screen resolution as the Kaiser.
Post a screenshot of what you're talking about.
Working fine on my Kaiser, probbly one of your other programs messing it up.
Was working fine on my Kaiser. Try upgrading to 0.16.
I have the same issue with .16, I shut off all programs that boot at startup and the issue remained..
how do you take it out of fullscreen mode?
I think it was designed to run full-screen so there's more to see. I also think there is a way to shut it off. It was a great program because it was both incredibly slow and a total processor hog and dragged my Tilt to a complete halt while it was open.

Making the Kaiser Finger Friendly

I don't know if everyone else has incredibly small fingers, but I had trouble using the on screen keyboard with my digits without pressing the wrong buttons all the time. Secondly, I found navigating with the Kaiser when docked in a car or a holder to be a complete bind. Trying to do something like a telephone call was way more difficult than my old Nokia 6230i
I just wanted to say that I am now finally happy with my Kaiser after doing the following 4 things:
Installing KaiserTweak and modifying settings such as TouchFlo sensitivity and backlight settings
Installing PointUI for finger based navigation
Installing PocketCM Contacts - This ties in nicely with PointUI's interface and filled in a feature that PointUI desperately lacked
Installing PocketCM Keyboard to stop my fat fingers pressing the wrong buttons.
I can now use my Kaiser completely from the screen without having to revert to the stylus or the keypad, which is very useful when it is docked somewhere like in the car.
I just wanted to let others know in case they were having the same problems as I had.

Rob
I still use the slide out keyboard once and a while but I instead use the following:
spb Mobile Shell 2.0
Resco Keyboard (iPhone skin)

I wasn't aware of those products and they are definitely worth considering. The Resco keyboard appears to work in a very similar way to the PocketCM Keboard with a couple of added features as far as I can see.
also something to consider is the big start menu and long endkey.
and i use finger friendly friends instead of pocketcm contacts because it is alot faster.
the spb mobile shell works really good spb also has a onscreen keyboard that works pretty sweet
I've been sold by FFF. The speed and on screen keyboard accuracy is the best that I have seen for finger usage. If anyone has any other finger usability improvement programs they'd like to suggest free or to pay for I'd be interested in hearing about them.

iContact is also very good. Takes of very little device memory unlike PocketCM and it's very easy to use. This one is free and is in the develop and hacking section. No need to install it either...just run the .exe from your phone.
i had FFF before until they promped me in registering... but i remember reading somewhere that the software was free during this time of development...

It's easy enough to find the blue and black style cab's here: http://www.pointui.com/Home.aspx
so let me get this straight this is something just like spb mobile shell?
i thought it was like a plug in allowing the navigation of the device it self to be more finger friendly...
is there anything like that?
here is my combo.
touchpal pro (keyboard)
thumb cal (calander)
PocketCM (Contacts)
Asus Launcher (Start Menu)
Touch Cube (Quick Access to stuff)
THis will keep you finger frindly.

Wow, iContact is awesome. Blows the stock one away!
Simplicity for Efficiency
Hi all,
You could add s.l.i. ThumbCal in your list...
And for all big fingers and others PointUI addicts , you can get a lot of third softs skins in this thread.
any links to where to get the cabs?
S2P
Slide2Play is also a nice music player for your fingers...

Yeah, I love the scroll speed on this app. Can anyone tell me why other apps and Windows Mobile itself has to be so sluggish when little 3rd party efforts like this and Pointui work so much faster??
i have already tried FFF and didnt like it much. SPB contacts work the sameway and the buttons are bigger...
i am still interested in the touch keyboard...
I tried PocketCM but it didn't work as well as I'd hoped. The problem -- for me anyway -- was that if I wanted a letter like "r" I'd have my finger over it but it's so sensitive that the act of lifting my finger would trigger an adjacent letter and I'd get that instead.

VITO SMS-Chat 1.1 landscape

hi i purchased vito sms chat and have had a problem with the typing in landscape mode, its not there. it doesnt appear in the text box until after it is sent. I had this issue in both wm6 and wm6.1 and have searched it for weeks and havent been able to find a solution, i tried disabling cleartype landscape and many other things but nothing seems to work. Can anyone point me in the right direction or has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks in advance,
Fjc3
I've downloaded and tried the SMS-Chat, I think the problem is not the software but the WM6.1 have issue with displaying typed clear type text in landscape...
Vito's FunContact also does not work when you try to create/edit a contact and entered any text in landscape mode, texts simply would not show up untill you flip your screen back to vertical orientation...
I've sent a message to the tech support at VITO maybe they can give me an answer.
Unless the SMS-Chat have option to disable cleartype in landscape, it is not useable when typing in landscape mode using either QWERT keyboard or onscreen keyboard.

thanks for the reply, lets hope VITO can give us a solution!
I highly doubt Vito can give a solution other than revert back to 6.0 or just turn off cleartype in landscape.
6.1 doesn't allow it in any programs I have used.

i had to do that for my IE as well but that fix doesn't seem to work for SMS-Chat.
actually i just noticed, oddly enough, if you type with keyboard (landscape) and then close keyboard before sending the message your written text appears in text box and if you slide open again the text will stay but new text will again be invisible... i have all cleartype disabled and cannot think of what the problem may be. maybe the application uses cleartype in landscape on its own???
You guys should try L26's Diamond V9 ROM. I have zero problem with cleartype in landscape mode in any application.

I am actually on L26 v9 coincidentally i have updated roms every time he comes out with a new one since v1 and check for v10 every day lol. I have no problems with other apps both in landscape and in portrait but this one is giving me a hard time tho.
This is serious issue, I have it on my tilt too and I havew l26V9 too... this is ridiculous...
I tried to change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings key: offonlandscape with no luck, anyone has any idea?
I have Alex's newest ROM, and have no difficulty using Vito SMS chat. I can see the text as I'm typing it in (in landscape mode, of course), and can see all of the messages I've received or sent. It's in cool colors, too!

I installed AT&T's WM6.0 Stock rom on my Tilt and it indeed works perfectly, so does Fun Contacts by Vito.
You can't simply disable cleartype in the system to solve this problem associated with Vito softwares. Why? Because the software itself forces the use of clear-type fonts regardless of system setting in landscape mode.
I've got a response back from VITO support, NO They can't fix this problem unless it is fixed by microsoft in WM6.1

that makes sense, i guess we will have to hope that the cleartype issue gets figured out in a new 6.1 ROM

PocketCM Keyboard is a freeware alternative. But I guess you've paied for Vito SMS Chat right? I would not be satisfied with their answer.
Vito should add an option to enable\disable in their program. Should not be the hardest thing to do.
Voice your concerns on http://www.technologyatplay.com/main-mobile/forums/forum-view.asp?fid=165
Seems its the VITO forum that their developer visit.
looks like this could be the solution to our problem.... i have asked Leo to include it in his next ROM. lets hope he does!

Fat Fingers?

Is it me that has really fat fingers or is the diamond thats like impossible to write on? I often have to rewrite words.. really annoying.. Im not comparing it to iphone but when i tried the iphone you never missed a letter.. and often with the diamond if i want like ? and have to press and hold it releases itself so yet again i have to delete and try again .
Is there a fix for this to get?
It is possible for me to use my fingers. Keep in mind that the iPhone has a 3.5" screen and the HTC only have 2.8"!
A solution could be the tilt the HTC so the keyboard is on the long side - here the keys are a bit larger. (gsen program to do that)

I have just got the diamond (XDA Ignito) and have to admit the on screen keyboard will take some getting used to after my XDA Exec physical keyboard but could anyone tell me how to use the QWERTY on screen keyboard in landscape mode as that might improve my accuracy somewhat?
if you use the phone keypad, its a hell of a lot more reponsive than the artemis, the cruise or iphone, best touch sensitivity ive come across

Same here, using the SIP utility found on this board to have it set to phone keypad when the stylus is in the device, and full QWERTY when it's out. The Full QWERTY without using the stylus is just too frustrating.
This tool will allow you to rotate the diamond in all applications incl. messages and then the keyboard will follow to landscape mode.
Allows you to rotate the screen between portrait and landscape mode

I have very small fingers, so I use the regular (small qwerty) keyboard option in portrait, just with my fingers. No need for me for other input options, because I think I tap with a 95% "succes rate".

Questions and my opinion on the TD2, read

just bought a TD2 yesturday and managed to flash dutty's holy grail r6.
I used to have the xperia and didn't like it. I'm having a similar feeling with the diamond 2; they both looked good on screen. I think its just Windows Mobile thats uncomfortable. Also, capacitive > resistive. The only reason i can remotely even use this phone is because of my fingerNAILS. When you use an iPod touch for over a year, you'll start to notice the difference of responsiveness.
Some questions I have; help is appreciated:
1) Word Mobile can't turn sideways to use the landscape keyboard? Is there a way to be able to make EVERYTHING go landscape (when i tilt the phone), including the homescreens? (xperia was able to when i slide out the keyboard)
2) Why are there those unnecessary up, down, left, right, arrow keys on the keyboard? I never use them and they have become hindrances. When I go on windows live messenger and use the landscape keyboard, I cant see what im typing because the keyboard takes up almost the whole screen.
3) Can i have more then 15 favorite contacts in the contacts grid tab? (i have manila 2.5)
4) Some of my songs are in another language, so their names are in blocks of letters (when i play them in the music player) instead of proper symbols (chinese, etc).
5) Even after upgrading to dutty's rom, the phone still feels sluggish (music player), SLOW, unresponsive at times. None of my above inquiries would be a problem if the phone was super fast; it would compensate for all faults.

1. Download TD2 Tools, there is a G-Config menu that allows you to specify what rotates.
2. We lost navigation keys with the invent of the scroll bar so.... They got to be somewhere. Change your SIP will resolve this. I use Touch Pal.
3. No. 15 Comntracts is all you can load in teh contacts tab, however you can download Max Manila Themes which will give you 20 shortcuts on your home screen that can be assigned to additional contacts.
4. I know Dutty has language support but not sure how that works. Sorry.
5. I have no issues with this ROM other than the WM6.5 SMS slowdown bug.
I assume you have followed protocol and hard reset after flash?
When you first go to Pics or Music tab, it will be slow at first until everything caches.
Hope this helps. Once you check out max Manila Themes you'll be much happier.

1) I downloaded the TD2 tools, and added pocketword and wordpad to the whitelist in G-sensor. However, it doesnt work after reseting the phone and they disappear on the list when i go back to check. Same issue with "Enable touchflo3D in landscape".
2) is there another way to change the keyboard? one with unnescessary arrow keys (and other keys) and BIGGER qwerty but LESSER space taken up
5) Ahh, i just feel SO frustrated at the unresponsiveness of these phones. Even after upgrading to a nice rom (dutty's) i dont understand why WinMo is so uncomfortable to use.
Its ridiuclous to type with the onscreen keyboard, both portrait and landscape. Has anyone tried the Hero's? because its capacitive, it actually reads my fingers. I have to grow my fingernails to use this phone productively.
I bought this phone to use it's Word capabilities, calendar appointments, and live messenger, not to mention the very important SMS.
but each one of these has their own faults.
word wont rotate, calendar won't either, i cant see what im typing on messenger, and SMS is slow.
Its ABSURD.
Is there a way to delete or change something in the phone that makes the phone go FASTER? or rather the typing on the keyboard
Another ISSUE.....
Why on EARTH can't I play music (TouchFlo's music player) with the screen off (sleep mode)?? Once i press the power to sleep, the music stops.
If you want an good audio player that also allows you to turn off the screen, must you use Nitrogen.
Swype, instead, is a keyboard that has keys sufficiently large and it don't has the arrow keys.

I like the HTC music player, and to not use other ones. Is there anyway to make the music player during sleep mode??
I'm also familiar with that Swype method but I'm really just interested in a normal qwerty keyboard with large, responsive keys that dont take up so much of the screen.
Thanks for the suggestions though
can you guys please help me? im really in the verge of selling this phone (but its hard to sell it)
However, with the stock rom wm 6.5, if you have setted the deactivation of pda after for example 1 minute, after this period the device will sleep and the htc player will continue to work.
For the input, you also can try Resco keyboard or the other lot of keyboards for wm.
The strength of winmo, unlike other operative systems, is that you can always find a solution to everything ...
Some quick comments:
4) If you are looking specifically for Chinese (CHT/CHS) I use a cab file found on XDA... do a quick search for "uhei00m-gray.cab" file and this should help you. Works well for Touch HD Leo ROMs and my wife's TD2's stock 6.5 ROM.
5) I have use dutty's Leo ROM in my Touch HD before, and the sluggish-ness is due to the Leo build (cover-flow). My wife's 6.5 stock rom (without cover flow) works find without any delay/sluggishness. Keep in mind, the Leo ROM was built for HD2 with has 1GHz CPU to handle the intense graphics.
2) Keyboard, I have been using the TD2 & THD keyboard without the need for finger nail. I think just like iPhone, it takes some time to ramp up (2-3 weeks) when I used it for a short-while.
Good luck, and I think the form factor for TD2 is great! (especially for my wife who cannot stand THD size).
