I think I briked my G1 and I need help
I want to root and updte the ROM of my RC29 G1.
I downloaded these;
Cyanogens Recovery Image 1.4
Radio Image (ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip)
SPL (spl-signep.zip)
JesusFreke 1.5 ADP
JACHero 2.7.3
DrizzyDrake 2.5
I downloaded root.apk to my phone from http://www.androidactivity.com/root/root.apk
I did the step1 in this apk (downloaded DREAIMG.nbh)
Than I fastboot by camera+power button.. It installed the update flawless.. I reboot and opened the root.apk and did the step 2.
so I did everything flawless (partition etc.. )till putting the spl-signed.zip to sd card.. as i did this it and rebooted in recovery mode the phone stucked at T-Mobile G1 screen.
Nothing happens.. I tried to fastboot again, I put the DREAIMG.nbh to sd card and push the cam+power.. the phone is not fastbooting also!
What shoudl I do? Is there any way to resolve this problem?
Thanks
if you cannot get into recovery (home and power) or bootloader (camera and power) then you have a brick, no if's and's or but's. i hope you have a warranty and a good lie. if you can get into either recovery or bootloader then wipe and flash a rom or use fastboot to restore a nandroid. tell your provider that you got an your phone said something about an update and you hit ok and that it would not get past the g1 (or whatever your start up screen is). try and sound as dumb as possible, i.e. no mention of xda, brick, root, anything even remotely technical.
spl-signed.zip sounds a lot like the 1.33.2005 spl or "doom bringer" that is what bricked your phone, if it is bricked. did you flash the radio (2.22.19.26I) first? if not, then that is definitely what bricked your phone. if you already had the radio, then your phone is a just a cruel play of statistics.
Seems so.. I put the radio first.. in tutorial it says;
"Now that you partioned your card, place SPL file on your SD card, go into recovery mode and hit the option to apple any update. Let it complete and reboot. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO get pass the G1 screen at this point. Pull the battery, delete the update on your SD card and NOW place the sd in a card reader and put the hero rom on it."
I exactly did this.. and it's still stucked on G1 screen.. I'm living in Turkey so no hope to bring the phone to a retailer or to service..
Just like david said if you can't get into recovery (home + power) or bootloader (cam + power) then you have a brick. Just make sure you are holding in home + power long enough to get into recovery. Did you check if you phone was able to have the "danger" spl installed?
...
What's "danger SPL"? .. I'm sure I'm holding the camera + power long enough..
Thanks for the reply
The "danger" spl is 1.33.2005, which just like me and david think is what you loaded on your phone. Not all phones are allowed to have that spl and will brick your phone. If you flash the "danger" spl before the radio it will brick your phone. If you interupt the flash while loading the "danger" spl you will get a brick. Once you flash the spl you have to reflash another rom cause it overwrites the existing. The only time you need that spl is if you are going to load a hero rom. But if your not able to get into recovery or bootloader then your phone is a brick. I would immediatly call HTC and have them repair it for you considering the phone is not quite a year old yet and still under warranty, I know the phone came out sometime last October. Just don't say anything about bricks, spl, roms, xda, or anything like that.
thanks for the info.. I did exactly what you say.. The issue is I live in Turkey, the phone is second hand.. no receipt, no warranty docs, nothing.. so I think HTC will not repair it or change it. HTC Android phones are not in the market officially yet in Turkey..
I bought a brand new unused HTC Hero insteaed 15 minutes ago.. It's a shame that I want to install Hero Rom.. at the end I came up with a new HTC Hero The most expensive rom in the history I guess..
Thanks for your help anyway.. I will sell the bricked G1 on an auction site. May be someone will buy for it's parts..

Well thats cool you got a hero. But if I were you I would still atempt to contact HTC to see if they will repair it, then you could sell it and recoup some money for the hero. There have been numerous people on here that bought there phone second hand just like you and were still able to have HTC help them. It's always worth a shot, it doesn't hurt to try.

Are you sure you typed that right. Or did you mean you called HTC. I've known several people that I personally known that has done this. Maybe you might need to call back and talk to someone else. Codani had just sent his off to HTC for just $30.

If thats the case then they have no idea what they are talking about because tmobile is the ones that issue the OTA updates, it's no 3rd party. I would suggest calling back and talking to someone else, maybe it was just the person you were talking to. In my experience I dropped my phone a few months back and it wouldn't turn back on. So I called one store to see if they would replace it in the store and I told them I dropped it and they said since it's physical damage I would have to send it to asus (insurance) to have it fixed. So I called the next store up and told them I got an update and the phone wouldn't turn on after that and they said come in and we'll replace it. So I had a new phone about an hour after it broke. That might help for you, but I would really call back and see if you get a different response. I've never heard anyone say anything like the experience you just got.

I've had an experience when flashing my phone where during the flashing process the battery gets sufficiently depleted that it won't turn on after the flash completes. During the flash process, the battery does not charge, and the reading and writing to flash consumes more power than normal operation.
When the Wizard battery gets depleted, it will not take a charge without some serious effort. I would plug it in to the charger and leave it for at least half an hour. Then, with the power adapter still connected, attempt several resets using the soft reset button. There was a time when I had to do this several dozen times before it "took" and was revived.
You can confirm whether it's a battery problem by trying another battery. Perhaps you can stop by your carrier's retail store and ask to try a battery. If it powers up, then tell them your battery went bad (not unusual) and they may replace it for free.
Thanks for the advise, i ll try that. I knew i could get some help from this forum thanks again guys.
went to the tmobile store tried a new battery it still wont come on. I guess have to call HTC on monday. Might have fried te phone.
Called HTC support and they do not support the xda mini s. Anybody have a suggestions or any third party vendors who can help fix this phone. Please advise.

Maybe if you weren't so sarky people might want to help...some more info might be good. What bootloader from / to and why? Does a computer recognise and install it, what happens when you run a rom update etc etc.
If you have destroyed the bootloader you will need to use JTAG to reflash it and this is not something you can do at home with your own PC so you may have to pay a service centre to correct it.
Richard
I was not trying to be sarky about it. I just need help. I downgraded the ROM from the 2.21 version to 1.X version. After the downgraded the phone booted up and it got stuck at the initail ROM screen. I tried reseting it a couple of time and it kept coming up and it gets stuck from on the ROM boot up screen. So i took the battery out and after i put it back in its not even coming up. There is absolutely no power. Im willing to send it any service center i just need info on where to send it to . HTCUSAINC says they do not support 02 devices. Thanks for at least responding to my thread.

HTC USA probably say that because they are contractually obliged to.

OK, who are i-mate's service agent in the US? Ring them. Explain you know how they don't service the XDA mini s, but it's a JAMin or whatever, and you're over from the UK where you work etc so can't send it back to o2 immediatley, a rom upgrade has gone wrong and you've corrupted the bootloader, you have downloaded the rom files and will strip the phone to the circuitboard if they would be so kind as to flash your rom file on it via JTAG if you made a donation to the charity of their choice etc etc.
So make it out that they have to do little work other than plug the JTAG onto the board and click 'ok' and you may get away with it.
If they do go for it, strip the phone, send the extracted rom files on CDr, thank your lucky stars and don't do it again. If they don't go for it, try the next HTC device service agent you can find until someone does.
Although people have JTAG equipment outside HTC the contact points are not labelled / listed in the service manual so you need them or their authorised agents to be able to do this.
Richard

I don't know if PPCTechs have JTAG capability for wizard. Ring them and ask. If they say '"huh? all our boxes have tags on them sir" or similar walk away...
You need someone that not only has a JTAG flash kit but also knows where the testpoints are on the wizard board. I don't sadly :-(
And I really would offer to strip the board down before sending - that's an hours' labour in some places!....

Unless you have a specific reason not to send the device back to o2 why not ring the UK XDA helpline for a quote? They do out-of-warranty repairs. +44 808 100 3427
If you are the original purchaser the warranty should still be valid - just don't mention you tried to flash it, says it stopped working.
Shipping insured to the UK should be no more than $25.
Richard.
I might just have to do that . It was a gift , but i know want the person to know that i tried to flash the phone. But at this point ill rather send it back to O2, than go thru all this stuff. Thank you soo much for ur inputs.

Hello Richard!
Could you please tell me more about JTAG? What does JTAG stand for and what JTAG can do. Its unlucky that now i have a dead O2 MiniS like Gambino because of doing the same thing he did (downgrade ROM). Will my phone become alive if i change the Flash ROM Chip?
BR
yes its unfortunate . I was trying to downgrade the rom. Whats exactly happened to yours. Has anyone else haad this problem and if you did were u able to revive it.

I did use the newromupdateutility_wizard_noid.exe with custom ROM (Button's) to flash my O2 Mini S (it was with German ROM 2.21 and i wanted to downgrade ROM in order to unlock CID and reflash with English ROM). The process went Ok and when the phone restarted i got
IPL 1.0. xx
SPL 2.21.xx
OS 1.54xx
and a boot screen with a glass of beer !!!!
Then the phone hang up, i think because of incompatible SPL and OS
I took out the battery trying to get into bootloader and reflash with another ROM but the phone did not power on. Now its totally a DEAD BRICK.
yup thats the same thing that happened to me. Anybody else have any input if this ever happened to them
I've installed a few ROMs from this place onto it. I did not SuperCID (just used a HardSPL bypass) it nor SIM Unlock it.
Does this mean that I should be able to undo everything that has been done?
How do I remove HardSPL? Is that possible?
How can I install an original AT&T ROM on it? Where do I find those? I think I found one with Alex's Kitchen, but I'm not sure if that's a full version or what. And what about the AT&T bloat?
Sorry if this is a noob question. I glanced through the Tilt-specific Wiki and the Kaiser Wiki and I didn't see the answer to any of these questions in the FAQs.
see the wiki, there's a howto link for reverting your spl
Oh, awesome. I missed that. I think it was because I was mainly looking through the Tilt-specific Wiki. My mistake.
Here's the thread in case someone else happens accross this one in search of the same advice.
http://cleanimport.xda/index.php?threads/335568/
Just install the original AT&T Rom and you should be fine. I had to send mine in for a warranty exchange last Friday after the radio conked out on it, and got my new one on Monday of this week. Anway, I used the HardSPL too, and I just reflashed the AT&T Rom onto it, put it in the box, slapped the return label on it and sent it on it's merry way
Edit-Somebody on here said they don't check the SPL when they get the defective unit, just that it has the AT&T Rom on it. In fact, I bet they just chuck it in the recyling bin and write it off.
Yeah I'm pretty sure they half inspect the phones. They must get more exchanges than they could deal with. They possibly check the device thoroughly though because it's a high end (dollar) device. Who knows?
I worked in the service department at Best Buy for a while, and I know we didn't check anything when customers returned products. All we did was looked at the stickers on the outside of the products to make sure the serial number, model number, etcetera all matched up, and that was it. As long as those matched up, we could send the devices back to their manufacturers or out to our service centers.
I figured AT&T would operate the same way, but from what I've read on these forums, they do a pretty thorough check. I just wanted to make sure I covered all grounds. Better safe than sorry, y'know?
Yeah, that's true. The guy at the store looked my phone over, and even changed SIM's and agreed something was wrong with the phone's radio, so that's in the notes too.
I found the post I was talking about, it's the first on on the page-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335568&page=23
"Just FYI; I recently returned my 8525 to ATT because it was not charging with the car charger.
I flashed back to the latest ATT ROM and then did a second hard reset. I heard last week from ATT the phone was accepted as a core with no problem.
I was told by a friend at ATT that they don't look at CID, but different splash screens will for sure trip up a return.
Just my experience; hope it helps someone."
Warranty issue?
The touchscreen of my phone is not working. Good thing is that i bought it just 8 months before so i guess its still under warranty? (is it?)
After looking around in the forum i get it reverted back to original locked state and now i want to get my warranty from ATT people. Can you please let me know how to proceed? And if anyone has already done this then what steps he followed? Do we need to send our phone back first and then get the newer phone? Or do they give us the newer phone and then we need to send them the older one back?

Just call AT$T, they will check your account to see if you are within warranty. If your problem is within warranty guidelines, they will send you a new (refurb) tilt or if you press, a new (refurb) Fuze ( I would rather have the Tilt ) It usually arrives within five days. It comes with a pre paid return envelope. Take the battery and sim and back cover off the old phone, put them in the new phone. Drop the old one in the envelope. Drop it in the post and you are all set.
If you fail to send the old one back within the time allotted they will bill your account of the full value of the replacement phone. Quick and easy, my replacement phone is over a year old and has worked flawlessly.
My Tilt is maybe 8 months old and decided to stop charging the other night. Unfortunately, I installed a Manila 2D ROM on it some time ago and because it will not recognize the USB cable, I can't roll it back. I'm going to call AT&T today and see about having a replacement shipped to me. I don't think it'll be a problem since it won't turn on and it'll probably be a mail replacement like you described. I'm going to press to get a Fuze, when I ordered the Tilt I paid good money to get it new instead of refurbished and it still stopped working after well under a year of use. If I'm getting a refurbished replacement I'd like the newest model.

Unless of course it is a battery issue, and they put in a new battery, see that you have used unapproved software and mark your S/N as immediately out of warranty,.....................I'm just sayin................................
You think that's an issue even exchanging it through the mail?

Do you think they stay in business by by just mailing a new phone to anyone who says, " this is broken, give me anew fuze ?'
I just exchanged my tilt today. My screen broke (the colors became all white and inversed and weird) so I called ATT and they told me to go to this special service warranty store. They looked it over quickly and gave me a new tilt no problem... just make sure you flash the original ATT rom back on it. (They didnt notice I broke the VOID sticker in the screwhole hehe)
PS. I got my tilt last April, and I'm not sure how long the warranty lasts. The guy said I have 90 extra days on this new phone.

Basically , you can have a brand new Fuze the way AT$T and M$ want it, or you can have a Tilt the way you want it. At present there are three times as many custom roms, more ways to customize it and I absolutely will not give up my Tilt screen. After a year of customizing my Tilt to perfection on this site, there is absolutely nothing about the Fuze that interests me.
I'm thinking about sending my Tilt back. It's bricked for some reason. I bought a new (OEM) battery because I thought I had battery problems, still nothing. If AT&T gets a phone that won't even power up what happens, I have hard spl and a flashed rom?

If they manage to resusitate it or even read the flash memory contents (if it's possible to hotwire a car, who knows what can be done with a TyTN II and both of these would be possible), then when they see it's not running an approved ROM/SPL they may act like a bull and charge!
Anyone who runs a custom ROM on a phone thats still under warranty runs that risk should a problem occur that makes it difficult to flash back to original spec.
denco7 I agree entirely with your comments re the importance of a tilting screen but now HTC have developed the Touch Pro 2 (which has a tilting screen) there may soon be a real successor for the Kaiser released to the market. I don't know which providers will pick it up or where it'll be sold though.

thanks you for your rapid ask, but i sure , exist a solution for the brick.
my phoneis not guaranteed because I bought it used
SNIFFF
There's no current solution for a brick. A brick is a brick and you're done. Sorry
I had the same issued as you are having i was also stuck on the t-mobile logo screen because of the radio update, and yes my phone got brick. but since i had insurance on the phone i took it to my local t-mobile made up some excuse that my phone stop working and they gave me a brand new one in store for free. gotta love the extra at 5 dollars you pay for insurance saved me from buying a new one lol.
Yup, you've got a brick. Most common brick actually, downgrading radio 9/10 times seems to leed to a brick. Currently there are no working fixes. There are rumors that either a serial->USB cable might help fix a brick or wiring up a jtag setup. There's info about both on the interwebs but neither has been proven to work on the dream yet afaik.
Here is my question. What were you doing before the brick happened? By chance did you install the special spl?

Sorry but I think your phone is bricked =[ Try calling T-mobile and tell them you dropped your phone and broke it. (You might actually want to do this, lol) They'll send you a replacement if you still have the warranty

This is horeible advice you never want to tell them you droped the phone, that's not covered under warranty. Just tell them the phone won't boot. But yeah sound like your phone is fubar.

How is it bad advice? Hardware problems are covered by warranty, software are not. the brick is a SOFTWARE problem. T-Mobile does not give replacement g1s that are screwed up because of something you installed that wasn't issued by T-Mobile themself. If you tell them you dropped it , its a HARDWARE problem and they provide replacements...

Telling them you dropped the phone and it no longer boots is your problem and they will say so. "Was it working before you dropped it?" Yes it was "Then it soulds like when "YOU" dropped the phone you messed it up" Hope you have the phone insurance that's the only way you are most likely going to get a new one but it's going to cost you.
While it's a software problem if you drop the phone and break it they do not have to replace it.

Oh god, fine then. You come up with a better story and post back I don't understand your last sentence...In the official tmobile g1 forums they state that they are not responsible for anything you do software wise to your phone ( root, ROMs, spl, brick, etc..)

simple The OTA got to you for cupcake and you went to install it when the phone rebooted it was stuck at the G1 screen. they will walk you through a few steps and confirm it's messed up. At that point they will send you out a replacement. You do not have to say anything about it being rooted. I just did this for my friends moms phone. He messed it up I called and got her a replacement sent. Now if you are not a T-mo customer you are out of luck though which sucks :/
Hell I had to do this for 2 phones. 1 G1 and 1 Shadow this past week (both phones were modded by me/friend) Shadow was a true hardware issue though and not the mods fault though.
just tell them your phone wont boot up if you cant get to recovery or android screen neither can they on your phone so they will never know what u did to it

Lol okay then. Still think that if you report a hardware issue like you broke it, T-Mobile will still replace it as long as you still have the 1 year warranty that came with it. Like Cyanogen's issue where his touchscreen was messedup. HARDWAREE issue and T-Mobile replaced it

I work for T-mobile and telling them you broke the hardware on the phone is NOT covered under warranty. The manufacture's warranty only covers phone defects not people dropping their phone. A touch screen going out is an example of hardware covered under warranty. Software is covered under warranty as well and all you have to say is the phone won't boot past the G1 screen. Thats all you have to say.
All right. I rest my case then O mighty T-Mobile worker. No sarcasm haha.
Yeah its true, you do have to be careful if you plan on using the warranty route if its not totally legit, but then I suppose it differs depending on region. Over here in the UK it covers quite a few things like accidental dropping of the mobile, water damage etc. Which reminds me, I need to add my mobile to my monthly insurance policy...
The insurance isn't really worth it =/ Even if you claim it you still have to pay 130$ here in NY
Blimey... I pay £6/m (thanks to my credit card policies) instead of the usual £9/m that covers the mobile phone over accidental damage, theft, water damage, software damage etc. However if I do make a claim I think its £30-£40 for a replacement G1.
HELP! Is my g1 bricked?
After reading a few other thread I believe my g1 is bricked.
I was trying to install Superhero G3. After installing the radio provided in this thread:
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f56/official-hero-g3-build-rom-18471/
My phone hung at the T-Mobile g1 boot logo.
I can't get into recovery or anything.
I bought the phone from craigslist, so I don't have a warranty or anything. My parents would kill me if they found out I have to buy myself a new phone.
PLEASE I hope there is something I can do to fix this.
I was trying to get a new hero rom and it required a different radio so I flashed it and while it was installing it brang me into a screen with a white box and a yellow arrow pointing down to the phone..Its been there for over 20 minutes, I tried to take out the battery and putting it back in it still goes back to that screen!! What should I do!?

Yeah if it's stuck on the screen.. you're skrewed.
What do you mean?! I dont wanna lose my phone it cost so much damn money and I cant get another one for so long! Theres no way to fix this ;[!?
there are only 2 radios for the g1 at this time. one of them starts with a one, and the other is the 2.22.19.26I that is required to run the new spl. if there is a link to this rom, and it is the dream forum i would like too see it. if it is not in the dream forums then you should've known better than to flash something to your phone that was not made for it or tested for it. Twisted bricked one of his phones flashing a hero radio.
I hope you still have insurance

Someone please help!!!!!!!!
Is my phone really broken? Like ill never ever be able to use it again? Is there any way to fix this? Someone told me to press Alt-L because the box with arrows pointing at the screen is the recovery mode screen but when I press Alt-L nothing happens
Those are combined radio and ROMs for the Hero, not Hero ported to the Dream. At the top in big red letters it says:
DO NOT FLASH THESE ON ANYTHING EXCEPT A HERO!

So you flashed a radio not written for your device. Yes, it's a brick, you deserve a brick for completely ignoring the warnings...
I would say take it back to tmo, but as it's not a full brick, but a radio brick, they will know it's not an over the air update that caused it.
What do I tell t-mobile? I bought my phone on ebay..I dont even know if it has insurance or anything and I do not use a data-plan im using a t-mobile prepaid sim.. theres noway for me to fix this?
call HTC and talk to them, they will fix it on your dime. Basically you call them, they will tell you there is a "$29 or less triage fee", and give you an RMA number. Basically what they are saying is, without your approval, the charge to look at it will be less than $29. That includes shipping back to you. I would think a reflash would be a fairly cheap procedure. I have used HTC for repairs before and they really went over and above for me.

Oh, you're not a tmo customer....then they won't replace it for you. Only if you bought it from them. Enjoy your brick.
Theres nothing that I can do to fix a radio brick!?
here is the contact info for HTC-Tmobile repairs

this is getting a bit old, NO, there is no fix for what you did other than sending it in for repair. Nobody but HTC has the ability to fix your type of brick as of right now.
Ok..can you tell me what I should tell them? My phone is rooted, doesnt that mean they wont accept it?
Worst thing you can do is tell them the phone is rooted. If you've got a data plan and everything with T-Mobile, tell them that you installed an OTA update and that this problem happened.
Last time I had a brick, that's what I told HTC. They fixed it for free, all I had to pay for was the shipping.
I do not have a data plan though..thats the thing im used t-mobile prepaid, so your saying not to tell them that my phone is rooted? Wont they know though?
No, they can't tell. If you don't have a data plan with them, they won't help you. That's what they did to me since I just have a regular plan.
This is when you go to HTC. Find their support number on their website, and call them. They'll give you the address to send it to, and they'll repair it for 1-2 weeks. They pay for return shipping.
Also, tell them that there was an OTA update, you pressed "ok", and after that the phone would not reboot. DO NOT tell them anything related to you rooting it, flashing, etc.
Ok thanks... so since I dont have a data plan they wont help me fix it? I sent them an email anyways
No, but you can give them a call and see what they say.
I just know from experience that they've turned people down as well as myself in the past.

That's why they call it a brick
i bought a phone off a craigslist that wouldnt get signal and they replaced it with no problem just tell them youve nad it over two weeks
Good day,
This is just a warning to all Touch pro 2 owners. I bought my unit August last year. Shipped it back to HTC because the touch screen had stopped responding. The phone booted up fine but you couldnt use the touch screen.
Im from the Caribbean so I had to pay for the shipping back to the states.
This is the email I got for HTC :
Dear Valued Customer,
This is documentation to provide suggested action repairs and quotation for
each service rendered.
Diagnosis:
System hanging, device has been hacked.
Suggested Repair:
Replace Main Board
Total Repair Price:
With shipping $359.64
---------------------------------------------
I paid $700 bucks for the phone off amazon.
I installed the bootloader and an Original windows mobile European Rom 6.5 months ago.
Here are my questions :
If the motherboard is bad or "hacked" why did the system work perfectly for 6 months.
Obviously HTC thinks I am an *** to shell out $360. Im going to tell them go to hell. This WAS my first ever HTC phone. I had respect for the company. But not the way they treat their customers. Im just going to tell them keep the phone because I dont want a paperwieght. This is alot of BS. Its obviously a hardware problem and they are trying to blame it on me.
So Im out $700 and no phone. ---- HTC they have lost a customer for life.
Im sure someone here will have a problem with their phone. But just be warned. HTC thinks we are all chumps. Im going to get a droid or something when I save up enough money.
I hope no one has to live through this nightmare like I had.
Thanks for nothing HTC. ---
* EDITED FOR LANGUAGE (NRGZ28) *
ok first of all, dont curse, its just gonna make you look childish,
where im at HTC doesnt really have bad customer service, you just gotta make sure you talked to the right guy from HTC, but since your touch screen doesnt work, its just an LCD problem something to do with the digitizer, not soo sure, but did you even try a hard reset or flashed a different ROM?
and what you installed a bootloader
you didnt jtag it have you?
but im sure u mean to say HardSPL, but was it the original HardSPL? that couldve triggered them to say its been hacked if it wasnt the stock SPL
I bet for that price you could pay someone to do the work locally.
Well you really can't blame HTC for your mistake..The mistake of not restoring for factory ROM and SPL prior to sending it back. There are instructions for doing that just for this situation when you need to make a warranty exchange..Flashing a custom SPL & ROM will void any warranty on the phone..If its only the touch screen that is bad you can pick one up off ebay and do the repairs yourself...google and you will find detailed instructions...
Sounds like you need a new digitizer........Ebay has them for around $30 (U.S.)
Purchase a small Torx driver set, and replace it......
I meant to say Hard SPL
Yup I meant to say Hard SPL.
This is just wrong the way they say it was the mainboard. Im sure it has something to do with the touch screen.
It is sad they had to resort to this. I mean I dont think Im THAT stupid. Hard Spl or not I think they should just fix it. Its not software related. The phone works perfectly. Just no touch input.
With that kind of money I could get another TP 2 off ebay. So its just wrong. Its a sham to get people to shell out 360 bucks for nothing.
This has thought me a very important lesson. Dont let these companies push you around.
try to attempt at asking it back without the repairs? i havent seen no one do it before, but its worth a try, im pretty sure they'll give it back cuz they "claim" you cant fix it and will be stuck with it, but in reality u have digitizers sitting around ebay
worth a shot mate
but then yet again, how much is shipping? :x
Clearly stated in the Hard-SPL thread:
OliNex said:
Hard-SPL Release Time!!!!
NOTE 2: this is unsigned Hard-SPL. no limitations on flashing ROMs (except of course some Radio roms). also, this has overwrite protection against HTC RUU's overwriting HSPL with a stock one, so if someone needs to revert to stock SPL for warranty reasons, a stock SPL downgrade package is posted here below. use this relocker *only* if you need to return the phone for warranty, and only use it as last step - after reflashing stock OS and radio. see steps at the end of this post about how to reflash stock SPL.

Simply downgrading to the stock SPL could have avoided this.
Yes downgrading could have avoided this but they lied !!
What bothers me the most is that they lied about the diagnostic. Its just very misleading and to me its extortion. How could the mainboard be bad? Or is it they simply think that people with smartphones dont know how they work. I will update you on the situation as time progresses. One thing I know is im not paying that "fee" for having it repaired. Shipping might cost me $70. So im already out alot.
sounds like a digitizer as already mentioned. very cheap.
i bought my phone off ebay. and seller said it was RAN OVER lol. still works great despite the scratches, chips,e tc and battery looks like it went to hell and back.. cells almost exposed in some areas
They probably have a policy where if the phone has been hardSPL'd (hacked) they simply replace the mobo. I can understand they wouldnt wont to train their staffs in every known hack etc they would want the phones to be in original condition.
Just tell them to post it back (you will have to pay the postage) then either set it back to standard and then try to get it fixed again or best option as others have said, buy a digitizer off eGay and fix it yourself or get a local boffin to fix it for you.
You need to accept the fact that if you hack your phone you will not be treated as a 'normal' customer. You get a lot of benefits from hard SPL but 'factory' HTC service wont be one of them.
First off, you are truly stupid for even paying $700 for a cell phone off amazon. That is outrageous and you know it. Besides, most carriers sell these for $150 - $200 with a new 2 year contract. Second, I agree with the others. If you would have called and had them warranty exchange it, you wouldn't be in this situation. hTC is a great phone manufacturer and their phones are top quality (price reflects). You have had one issue with the company because of something you did and/or failed to do with ONE of their phones. Don't go blaming them for your mistakes. Sorry if anyone is upset at this, i just can't tolerate someone coming on here and bashing the manufacturer that makes our phones
I can only foresee this thread degenerating more than it already has so I just closed it. ROM development is the wrong forum to post this anyway. As to the original OP... it comes down to the fact that you didn't put the stock SPL back on before you sent it to them. It seems logical they would use that as an excuse to get out of repairing your device for free. HTC or not, they exist to make money.
