Alright, I'm running Windows 7, and this is exactly what happens.
First, i connect my HTC Touch Diamond, on the phone screen it asks me to choose ActiveSync or Disk Drive, regardless of what i choose, or if i choose none, i always instantly get the following error appears in the task bar and the "Unknown Device" in device manager.

Under the devices properties in Device Manager, the Device Status says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)".
If i try re-running the Windows Mobile Device Center installer (drvupdate-x86.exe from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...F1-E46A-4A5F-A791-09F07AAA1914&displaylang=en) the following happens:
So, apparently it finds the driver and then attempts to install it, but while doing so, the device appears to become 'unplugged' some how and then the Windows Mobile Device Center installer continues on its way.
I've tried various reported fixes for problems like this, such as:
-Checking or unchecking the "Enable advanced network functionality" box in Start->Settings->Connections->USB to PC.
-Used 2 different cables in various USB ports.
-Deleting the device from device manager, resetting my PC and soft resetting my device then reconnecting them.
-Hard and soft resetting the device
-Enabling various system services, such as the UPnP one (which was originally disabled for some reason)
-Tried it on an XP machine, same task bar error, and same Unkown Device in Device Manager.
None of the above has worked, and im out of ideas. I'd be extremely grateful to anyone who could help out, i've tried to provide as much information as possible, if anything else is needed, just ask.
Thanks in advance.

I've got the same problem, and haven't figured it out, yet
Check this link here: http://www.we-u.com/?p=1321
I've just found it and trying it out right now, but it looks like it would work
Just find the drivers on the net and install them manually, then try n connect
Solution?
Hi!

Please tell me is it right to use 5 pin usb cable or i have to buy 11 pin mini usb cable.
my touch diamond starts charging when plugged 5pin mini usb but doesn't sync.

I'm having the same issues as the OP. I'm thinking if I could manually load the drivers, all would be well. Could someone who DOES have it working with Windows 7 perhaps strip the driver out somehow and post it here? I've tried all of the tricks listed above, with no luck. I'm going to try to get it working with my laptop running XP later tonight... maybe I can find the driver that way?
try this.
i also had this problem. try another data cable which ur friend use to connect his htc.
same problem, and it causes errors connecting as flash memory.
tried same computer, same cable, but windows xp sp3 with activesync. everything worked fine.
wtf is wrong with windows 7?

there is nothing wrong with windows 7, I think you need WMDC 6.1 Driver for Windows Vista (64- bit) to make it work
in this site you can get it http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=3182
I have a problem with my diamond, can't make it work through usb with my pc.
It gives me an error in device manager:
"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)".
I have installed wmd and tried different usb ports with no luck.
On my pc I have win10 installed, any suggestions?
Hi,
not sure if HTC Diamond can sync with Windows 10. I run Linux and have Windows XP with ActiveSync in VirtualBox. Works fine. So you may want to try the same, run XP in a Virtual Machine under Windows 10.

Hey Guys,
Firstly just got my captivate a couple of days ago and i am still struggling to get to install drivers and have my pc detect the phone. I am totally new to android (coming from iphone)... there might be some obvious things that I might be missing here...
Here is what has happened so far
I have pretty much tried all the drivers on the web and I am still unable to see the drives on my PC. Driod explorer is unable to detect the phone. Device manager is showing a USB device by the name "SAMSUNG Android USB Composite Device".
In the phone i have enabled usb debugging. Once the cable gets connected, I also open notification and enable USB storage.
I am still not able to see the drive or have any applications in my pc detect the phone. What am i missing?
A simple usb device installation has never given me so much trouble. Starting to get frustrated.
Appreciate any pointers in resolving this issue.
Thanks
So you chose "Mass Storage" in settings? And once you connected, pull down the drop down men you, press USB, and then press the "Mount" button?
Mine worked just fine on WinXP and Win7 64 bit once I enabled mass storage and then confirm "Mount" each time you connect.
yes I did choose mass storage option & mount it.
I am able to see the usb drives in windows xp. But cant resolve the issues with win 7 64bit. I am using the following drivers

I know a few people who had connections problems too. They were able to fix it using this driver: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
Some others were also able to do it using the Samsung Kies program.
Just one thing, though. You said in your post you're selecting 'Mass Storage'. Did you try selecting 'Kies' (this is even without installing the Kies program)? Try doing that. Also, try having USB debugging off when you perform the aforementioned test.
All I can get with debugging on or off and mass storage is this

My desktop is running Windows 7 64-bit, and I couldn't get it to recognize my phone for anything, even with the drivers from Samsung. The computer doesn't even pick up the phone as a device, much less one it recognizes. I had to use my netbook (Windows 7 32-bit/Linux) to do all my phone-related hacking stuff.
I'm using Win 7 64-bit and here's what I did after reading some suggested steps in another thread:
Install Samsung Kies first, before ever connecting the phone.
Run the program, then connect the phone to a USB port on the motherboard. Not one on the front of the case.
Windows SHOULD start installing the drivers.
I think I selected the Kies option on the phone the first time. Three or four different drivers were installed I believe. When I connected the phone again and selected Mass Storage, two or three different drivers were installed by Windows.
Does this mean I have proper drivers:?
Hi guys,
I just bought a new hp computer with win 7 64 bit os. I am able to use microsoft synctoy to syn itunes to my cappy. Does this mean that I have the proper usb drivers installed on my computer for my phone. I was thinking about rooting my phone and wanted to have the correct drivers installed.
Thanks, I consider myself a newby to the forum and to rooting, so any help would be appreciated.

Has any headway been made on this as I just got windows 7 64 bit, and am having a similar problem. Tried various drivers and whatnot but still cant seem to get the usb to mount like a flash drive. It is being recognized and can receive commands like reboot into download mode from AOI toolbox, but no mounting.. Kinda driving me up the wall bc Ive been stuck on the same rom for a few weeks now and Im itching to get back to flashing all the fresh new cm7 stuff out and just in general new roms.
The newest Kies will install a driver pack when you download it now.
MAkE SURE YOU REMOVE ANY SAMSUNG DRIVERS THAT ARE CURRENTLY INSTALLED
1.) download the newest Kies http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as?COUNTRY_CODE=CAN&LANGUAGE_CODE=ENG
2.) Install it. While it's installing it will install a driver pack.
3.) Plug your phone in.
This works for X64. I just used it on my own pc last week.

Turn on USB Debugging.
Lol I know how to enable USB debugging man. What I'm saying is windows wont allow it to mount for some strange reason. Going to try the kies driver mentioned earlier. Maybe that will work.
So I tried the kies drivers, and Im getting the same problem. The drivers will install and it will even trick me by showing the removable letters for my storage, but then after a second or so they disappear. When looked at under device manager they are just shown as unknown device. I just wanna backup my data like I used too.

I definitely don't want to insult anyone's intelligence here (which usually means I am going to). i assume we've tried restarting the computer again.....a couple of times.......and if that doesn't work, then manually uninstalling all the drivers which have been installed so far and then starting over using just kies?
Yea, all those mentioned have been tried.

I don't know if this means anything, but windows can recognize my device. Sorta. I tried flashing to stock in hopes that would fix the problem, but it didn't. Isn't it strange that I can flash my phone but not be able to mount my storage??

okay...
So i was able to connect to my Win 7 64 bit computer for a little while ... had to in order to update to Mini Keis 2.2 (ran into problems there but fixed it <if you have questions about it PM me>)
But now that i am in 2.2 i am not able to connect. I get an error saying drivers could not be installed. I have uninstalled the original drivers and installed the ones from AT&T and also tried the ones from Samsung... still same problem. Does anyone one have an idea as to what i can do to solve this problem.
Thanks to any one who can help
I've had luck by doing the following:
Had my phone plugged in - it went fubar - computer didn't recognize the phone.
Re-installed USB drivers (ones Design Gears posted and the ones linked in the Q&A sticky btw) over the top of the existing drivers with the phone plugged in - USB De-Bugging on.
Rebooted PC - winblows found the phone and everything was peachy. Windows 7 64 is definitely nice - but still has issues with detecting drivers and USB devices sometimes. Its still Windows after all
If it works on another PC than you know its a software issue with windows.
If your still getting the same error on another PC - then its possible that your internal card might be fubar.
Well I have tried EVERYTHING. Multiple drivers, uninstalling, reinstalling, rebooting, usb debugging on/off, flashed to stock....Nothing. Windows 7 64bit. I hate hate hate you and hope you die of viral infection.
For some reason I cannot get ADB to work with my NC. I cleaned out ADB and reinstalled with all updates except for the Galaxy Tab add ons. I used the driver that is available all over the forum and got the proper device id in device manager. When I try to check devices I just get nothing connected. Does anyone have any ideas? Any help is appreciated. Device manager also still has the USB as mass storage also.

ADB is not the issue, it must be some kind of driver problem. the SDK is in my path, it will run no matter what directory im in. It works fine on the vibrant.

thats what I used orginally to get to this point. plus the 1.01 image. I tried it again just to be sure. The composite device shows when plugged in but so does the mass storage, does that matter? should the storage still mount?

Here is what I did, (just to be clear)
Plugged in Rooted Nook.
Uninstalled USB Mass storage
right clicked "nook" and hit update driver
selected driver from downloaded Win7 post
clicked install unsigned driver
adb composite device showed up
reboot
plugged nook back in, now both USB storage and Adb composite device show up
Be lazy, get adb wireless from the market. I didn't even bother setting up my PC

There's a thread somewhere around here with a solution that worked for me, it involved adding 0x2080 to the adb_USB.initial file in /user/yourname/.android.
Edit: Oh yeah, adbwireless is awesome so give that a try if you can't get USB to work.
+1 for AdbWireless!!!
Its free and you can get it from the market.
(I finally gave up after days of trying to get the usb drivers figured out on my computer.)

Didnt even think of that. I use it for my Vibrant and love it. thanks.
My wireless works great...but I still need the usb connection to modify wireless settings to allow connection to adhoc network (mywi on iPhone 4).
I've tried everything and am still having a problem.
I am running a Windows Vista machine. When I attempt to install the USB drivers, it runs through the steps, but at the end, it says:
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
Android Composite ADB Interface
The data is invalid.
If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software."
I've cleared it all and still have the same problem.
I ran it on an XP machine, and was able to install the drivers, however, the nook still does not show up in the list of devices.
Any ideas?
I know there are many postings around for this as this is quite the common issue but i've read many of them and still can't get drivers to work for me on any Windows 7 machine... I have win7 x64 on a pc and win7 x32 on laptop and it's not working on either...
i' ve downloaded the newest drivers direct from the Samsung site and tried it on both...tried kies as well.. tried a few of the other drivers that i've found here and there but to no avail....
but its not completely failing....here's what i've got so far..
usb composite and usb mass storage install...with the newest samsung.. the only one that doesn't is the SGH-I897 drivers line...it never installs and stays red and no drivers stated...but i am able to connect to my phone via usb mass storage device... after i click it from the phone, then my pc or laptop will allow me to browse my phone and transfer files back and forth..even though the drivers for it aren't installed (at least on any screen that says they are working) but Kies will never detect the phone and if I want to MORE IMPORTANTLY run something like Odin... I can't connect...
so only usb mass storage connect to my phone from win7 x64 or x32 but that's it..i've tried different usb ports (as suggested many times).. tried a whole bunch of different drivers from every link i could find in this site and others..
the only thing i haven't tried drivers wise yet is the Galaxy S drivers for x64.. should i try those on my pc?
technically, if i can connect to my phone via usb mass storage and transfer back and forth (regardless of any supposed driver issues showing in win7) then shouldn't i be able to connect through a program such as Odin, etc?
I'm at a loss here and have tried a lot.. any other suggestions?

adb interface detects as different hardware for the device, the mode is completely different. Not uncommon to have driver load on one and fight you on the other. even happens when it was working before.
Did you try Heimdall using the driver loader for it to manually change? then flash from there.

What rom are you using? Aosp roms (this includes ICS) require the google usb driver for your computer to recognize it with usb debugging enabled.
When you uninstall your drivers, are you deleting the folder in program files labeled Samsung?

Ics rom requires the google usb driver (aka nexus s driver) for usb debuggjng to recognize properly. To use the phone without debug, use Galaxy Nexus drivers. Both are in my sig link. The G Nex drivers are simple click and install. The google driver requires you to use device manager to specify the driver. You can google "how to install google usb driver" for detailed instruction.
Hi,,
I have just tried flashing a ROM on the Ascend W1 and I am getting an error, which has oviously rendered my device unusable. It does vibrate when trying to turn it on, but screen is black.
I was working with eMMC Software Download app, activated "Program Boot Loaders" and loaded a XML-file. Then I clicked on Download, as shown in the video of windowsmania.pl and in their instructions. I got the message:"Download completed - no errors detected" and my device is correctly recognized as Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9006. In the eMMC Software Download app it is listed as Qualcomm MMC Storage USB Device, which should also be correct. Still, the device status is shown simply as "error" instead of "writable". The Download button is not clickable. I have tried it with two different PCs, one with Windows 7 and another with Windows 8.
What am I doing wrong?
What does this mean and could anyone who has experience with this issue please help me out?

I found a way to solve this issue, but I have no idea why it worked.
I installed Windows 7 32-bit on my PC, installed the drivers, restarted and it was instantly recognized as Qualcomm (whatever) 9006.
So I started QPST Software Download app and I was able to download it. It seems that I had to use a 32bit operating system and not Windows 8, at least it looks like that. The Download button wasn't clickable and the device status has shown error on Windows 8 64bit and Windows 7 64bit. It was writable in 32bit. Hope this helps someone out.
Right click the eMMC Software Download and choose run as Windows XP Service Pack 2, this should do the trick

Huawei W1 does nothing as expected during flashing..
My W1-U00 started having problems with loading apps..whenever I tried to load my photos or weather channel app or whatever it looked like it tried to load the app but it redirected me on home screen. After a few days I had a problem with the space on device and some updates it needed so I tried to uninstall some of the apps but when I did so and restarted the phone the apps where back again. Since that point it's impossible to uninstall any app, impossible to reset the phone from the settings>about>reset phone and impossible to hard reset the device, I tried all the possible ways to do a hard reset but nothing, it just restarts like nothing happened and I get no sprockets logo. So after a few months I decided to reflash my device. Everything went smooth but after I clicked on the download button of the eMMC Software Download app instead make my device recognized by my pc as Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9006 the device restarts as normal and nothing happens. It's impossible to make it work, I tried all the methods available online but nothing...Any ideas??

I got my Lumia 830 today and after setting up the Device, I wanted to connect it to my PC.
But Windows does not install the required treiber. Although it is shown in the Device Manager under "Other Devices" under the name "Lumia 830 (RM-984)".

Since there are no treiber available at the Internet (neither at the Nokia HP, nor at the microsoft HP) i dont know how do fix that Problem.
Can anybody help me?

There is no issue with Windows 8.1 64 bit or something missing in Registry.
But,
It will work definitely but you need to try again and again.
You need to download driver's through"DeviceManager" to automatically search for driver over the internet.
