Problems/Stock ROMs - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

Just a couple of quick questions, have searched but couldn't find an answer.
Firstly, have been having a few problems with a lot of the custom ROMs I've been using recently, they usually work well for a while, then start going wrong. I've heard you're meant to flash a stock ROM in between each custom one, was wondering if that's true, as I've never seen it written anywhere. I flash using USPL if it matters. Currently using Dutty's Leo R5, which has also just started going wrong for me.
Also out of interest, how would I go about flashing a stock ROM? Same process as normal? And where would I be able to get the latest one from?
Cheers for any help.

I've never once flashed back to a stock rom in-between custom roms (and I've tried a few) .
But I have also heard that it works for some people having issues with flashing. If you are using uspl, then your stock spl is still intact and you should just be able to flash back to a stock rom (AFAIK in any case - sorry you can see I use hspl)
You can find many of the shipped roms (stock) here
Depending on the rom you choose and your current spl you may get the blue/green screen after the flash, but that would only be due to a rom/spl mismatch.

Thanks for the help, gonna flash a stable ROM for the next few days I think. Just one other thing I've been thinking of, I've got SPL 1.54 showing up in bootloader mode. You know if that's still the one you're supposed to use? Not sure if it should be 1.56?

Is it still 1.54.0000? This is actually an updated stock spl which you loaded when using uspl, so you should be able to just flash one of the later version stock roms. There is no need to downgrade your spl to your original (unless of course you need to return your phone for service)
1.56 is only as a result of using hspl and AFAIK there is no stock 1.56 version.

Ah that's alright then, yeah it is still 1.54.0000. I'd just seen something about SPL 1.56 mentioned, so I wondered if there was a newer version of that stock spl. I'll find another ROM to flash for now, seems like I've been doing everything right. Thanks again for your help.

Flashing back to stock ROM worked for me, my spl has bee upgraded since i started flashing (first one was Dutty 3.9XT). This solved many of my problems encountered flashing the latest Win 6.5 + Manila 2.5 ROMS.

What stock ROM have you been using? I've only been having problems with 6.5 roms, 3.9xt was the only one I've used so far that's worked flawlessly.

Fortunatly we are dealing with a form of Windows and as in any windows there is not so much difference. This means that it is silly to think that the same windows OS u installed is running as well or the same as to when u first installed it. We have to MAINTAIN it....
Think of ur phone rom as if it were a windows version on a regular PC. What happens after a few weeks is that it gets cluttered with unnused registry keys (even from installing and uninstalling apps), cache files, temp files and all other junk that gets installed by default. This means that u as a user have to clean it once in a while to get get rid of all this stuff that is going to make ur windows and thus ur phone slow after a while. Fortunatly there is help for us to do so. I use Pocket Mechanic and SKTools for this reason. Another thing is that u can look at the windows startup folder to see what is started. The less it is starting the faster and snappier ur phone will be..
I think it is also silly to think that u have to reflash a new rom every other day. I only flash a new rom if i see some major upgrades in the new one.
I hope this helps some...

All true, but some of us have this strange addiction that needs to be satisfied regularly....

Hallos ClydeB1,
If u enjoy flashing 4 roms a day to see if one or other rom will run better go right ahead, that seem to be a hobby in itself for some people. If thats is doing any good to you or ur HD ? Doubtfull but who am i to judge...
I just said that things don't have to go bad after a period of time becouse it doesn't have to be that way, u are the boss and not ur windows OS.

Spicing up my AT&T Tilt

I am waiting until the end of the summer to do some phone shopping but in the mean time I want to "spice" up my Tilt.
I am pretty inexperienced to doing anything to my phone but I want to do a full overhaul. Clean everything out and make it as smooth as possible before re downloading some programs(Skyfire, Palringo, Opera Mini, etc)
Any suggestions on what to do? Also is there any way to make Windows Mobile more finger friendly(still running whatever came with the phone, with the exception of running HTC Home)
Thanks in advance.

Check out the rom forum. I think you will be impressed. Read through all the posts first. ( I know alot of reading but it is worth it)
I've looks and it's pretty confusing. There seem to be so many choices and a lot keep running into things that work but sometimes everything isn't 100%
Would you recommend a specific ROM and that leaves all the phones capabilities/hardware intact?
They all pretty much do.

It can be pretty confusing! And it can be very intimidating! If you're still running a stock ROM (never flashed anything before) go ahead and read the thread about flashing your first ROM. It contains just about everything you need to know! Read it a couple of times, really.
As for what ROM is best, personally, I like TPC's ROM. Try it out, if you want something different, go with something different.
Just remember a few things:
Follow the first link I gave you. Follow the instructions, step by step! Even if you think taking out the batter doesn't make a difference, do it anyway! Follow the instructions to the letter and you'll be fine.
Once you get it unlocked, flash a stock HTC ROM. Go to HTC.com, support, select AT&T Tilt, download the ROM upgrade, and run it.
From there, if you're going to flash TPC's Elite 3.1Full (second link I gave you), update your SPL. Follow the instructions in the first thread on updating the SPL, and go with 3.29 (if you choose a different ROM, read the thread to find the recommended SPL). One you have the right SPL, flash the ROM. If you have problems with your sound or camera, flash a new radio.
I know it can seem a bit much. But just read everything a few times, and follow all the instructions carefully. These phones are damn near indestructible, so even if some **** goes wrong, the guys here can help you fix it.
SoberGuy posted some very good advice. The instructions he posted are easy to follow and very detailed. As far as the TPC rom, I use on of his roms also. I've only flashed one rom and I'm very happy with the rom that I'm running. Once you get a new rom its like having a new phone all over again.

You can say that again! I've been dying to upgrade, but trying to hold out for the TP2. I ran Leo's ROM for the longest time. After flashing to TPC's ROM, it's like a brand new phone again! Now I don't worry about having to wait for the TP2, my Kaiser is like a new toy!

[SOLVED] once rooted always rooted?

First of all forgive me if this question as been asked a million times but to be honest I'm finding the Dream section a mess.
Now onto my question.... I've rooted my G1 and I'm currently running JF 1.51 with hero skin, now I'm I correct that I will always be rooted as long as I stick to custom roms?
The other thing is when I go into recovery mode I get a message at the top of the screen something like "Unable to find /system/command/recovery.cmd" am I correct that means I'm unable to proform backups? which is no big deal for me.
Finally whats the deal with this new spl, do I really need it to run a hero ported rom? I only ask because in all my years flashing windows phones the spl is something you should flash once and leave alone to avoid errors that can brick your phone.
Yes you will always be rooted. Not really sure on the recovery thing...You might want to try to fix that by flashing another recovery image. Yes you need the new spl to run the hero ROM since its HUGE

Thanks for the fast reply, as for the recovery thing like I said I would never back anything up and restore it anyway (I've always started afresh with every new rom)
Now going back to the spl thing.... Ive already updated my radio to the latest so when I do finally go for a hero rom and do flash my spl is the new spl a custom one which will allow me to reflash back down to a non-hero rom? or do I have to go back to the orginal hardspl first?
The new SPL was released by haykuro and it allows you to have about 30 more mb of space on your system partition. It still allows you to flash non-hero ROMs as well as hero ROMs. Sorry for the slow response >.>
Thanks alritewhadeva everything is clearer now.

Can I go back to the original Xperia X1 ROM?

I'm tired of using all these different cooked ROMS' and each of them have a different problem...some are slow...some are buggy...or maybe it's just my stupid phone/T-Mobile network...or all because it's Microsoft WIndows.
In any case, I'd try going back to Son'y original ROM, is there a way to do that?

hmmm...
you don't know the power of the dark side
...or you have not flashed the pure SEX1 R5
Hi! Yes you may install the stock ROM same way you've been installing the Cooked ROM's.
Just Find the original stock one in this Forum's ROM Section (it is a Sticky).
If you use the sdcard method is more simple. After finding the stock Rom xxx.nbh file, just rename it to "Kovsimg.nbh".
Hope this helps.
I just did the same 2 days ago. You can find the stock WM 6.1 Roms HERE.
And as said just rename the image file to Kovsimg.nbh and flash it like any other Rom.

Is it now? I waited one year 'til my warranty expires and now that it's 8 days over I'm seeing this. hehehe. by any chance, is this reverting back to original rom will really re-virginize your Xperia? Re-virginize as in Nintendo Wii re-virginize?. Just wanna be sure though.
Hi, I have a question … I'm still running WM6.1 with a stock R3AA010 ROM. I'm considering installing one of the WM6.5 ROMs (gtrab's SEX1 R5 BareBone ROM). To do this I need to install the HardSPL, I know. If I want to go back to the stock ROM will R3AA010 install using the HardSPL or do you have to re-install the Stock-SPL. If so how do you do that? I'm sorry if these are noob questions, but the guides aren't absolutely clear on this point - or maybe its I'm a little thick

If you've Hard-SPL and put a custom ROM in but want to change to an official rom, just download the rom and flash as you would a custom rom.
You don't have to put Stock-SPL if you don't want to. But if you someday wanna leave it in for repair etc, then you will have to put Stock-SPL on it, for guarantee reasons.

Thanks for the clarification dogans. So just to be clear, if I revert from a custom ROM back to a stock ROM the Stock-SPL isn't installed as part of the process. You have to install it afterward, just as you do with the Hard-SPL - Yes?
As far as i know, the HardSPL cant' be overridden by a usual stock ROM. You have to manual flash the original SPL.
Using a stock ROM with HardSPL isn't a problem, but i can't tell you how to get the original stock SPL back if you did _not_ back it up before (thats what i did -.-).
Maybe someone can tell me how to do this, would be very nice

Correct. Stock-SPL isn't included in stock ROM.
You will have to flash that separately.

have you tried to go in bootloader mode (3-color-screen) turn phone off. Than press vol down button and camera button until you see a 3 color screen, then you you can put in your USB cable and flash a rom you like the same way you did it with the android rom.

From Froyo back to a Custom Rom?

I searched around quit a bit and couldn't find this info.
If you go to one of the Froyos, with/without radio, is it possible to just flash it back with another custom Rom over that and all is good?
Just wondering if there are any gotchas like if you put the radio update on etc...
Thanks
how about using search!!!!

One person in that thread claimed, with an unlocked bootloader, that he just put the old radio and custom rom on the card, and did the usual wipe and flash and it worked fine.
Others that posted were all over the place, including some convoluted approach that pretty much wiped everything on the device and SD card to get it back to stock..which I don't care about stock. I just want to be able to go back from 2.2 to my Modaco R21 if necessary without any gotchas.
Yes you can just flash any ROM like you normally would. I've done it a few times now in the last few days. I did the old radio and all.

So I got the original radio, plus my R21 and intersectR kenerl setup I know is good.
Looks like you just flash the radio, then the Rom and kernel and setup again...
Thanks for the reply.

[SOLVED] How do I go back to NoDo?

Hi Guys,
Im currently in deepshining rom. unfortunately, all 7.5 roms are messing up my phone as it random restarts every time it's stressed a bit. like running 2 apps at a time. my bootloader is 3.xxx hspl. how do I go back to stock? nodo or any 7.0 rom.
thanks!
I've heard a couple people say that they've had the same problem with Deepshining rom, I personally haven't had that problem at all, one of the lucky ones I guess!
This is a list of the shipped oem roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_HD7/Shipped_Roms
Once you go back to a shipped rom it changes your hspl back to spl, like factory original device. Have you tried nextgen or instrinic rom? I would recommend trying one of theses or both before reverting back to oem!
I haven't tried either one personally but hear nothing but good things about them being fast and light!
If you found this helpful please click the thank you button!
thanks man, you definitely said the words that I needed. anywho.. I tried some of the roms already however, I think it has something to do with 7.5 roms. I guess I'll be stuck with 7.0 below. nevertheless thanks for the help!
Well keep an eye out for updates on the custom roms, they might better support your device in future releases...with that said when you revert back to oem and update through Zune you can stop the update after mango before the last update which is HTC, that update upgrades your boatloader spl to 5.xxx or higher, then if you decide to go back to a custom rom you can just follow shadows tutorial again without having to do the goldcard method, unless you already have the set up for it!
If you found this helpful please click the thank you button!
alright. I was about to ask about avoiding goldcard. lol. thanks a lot man. you have been a great help. how do I change this post to [SOLVED] ?
Your welcome man... Glad I could be of help!! To change it to solved just click on go advanced, next to the edit post button and click solved. Did you revert back to oem shipped rom yet?
