HTC Messaging Client Integration to Manila 2.1 Brainstorming - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile ROM Development

I figured its time for me to post a thread on how to integrate the messaging client into the Manila 2.1. My hope is that cooks with more experience and knowledge than I can help with some brainstorming ideas.
Here is where i'm at. I did some research and testing on the device and its apparent that messaging client ties into the windows default messaging client. For example in TF3D when you click all messages it would take to the messaging client which is great and what we want it to do. The problem is when you are in that screen and click on a message it takes you back to the manila 2.1 message overlay which won't send a message at all with the client installed.
What i've done so far is i found a manila 2.0 file that allows you to access the default windows messaging client from the messaging tab and with the HTC messaging client installed it accesses it instead, which is also great. But again I hit the same issue where it when you click all messages and click on a message it takes u right back to the manila 2.1 messaging overlay.
I think the mode9 file needs to be modified and i'm currently messing around in there to see if i can find anything worth wild. Does anyone else have any other ideas? Let me know if this wasn't clear at all as well.

No one has any ideas???? I can't be the only person who wants this

I think this is a great idea. If this can be completed it would be a great triumph for those who are more attached to Manila 2.1 as opposed to 2.5.

I have it half assed working but its not 100% and I can't seem to find the piece to get it to work 100%

bump.. Anyone have any ideas!!!?!?!?!?!?!

I am assuming you will have to mod some 2.1 manila files to make it refer to 2.5 messaging client. I havent looked at it real close, will look at it and see what the dependencies are and stuff...

I'm still trying to make sense of the manila mode9 files and the lua scripts to see if i can do something but nothing seems to be working. I'm actually starting to think i'm going to have to try and modify the exe with a hex editor.

when i including new client messenger from manila 2.5 to 2.1.19.19 i can't send even sms...

Yea thats because you are trying to send it through the manila 2.1 messaging area. If you use the attached file it will then go to the htc messaging client and you will be able to send text messages until you go into the all messages and click on a message.

I honestly can't believe there aren't more posts. Is this something that people just don't want???
Well here is where i'm at. I found the function that is being called when you press all messages. Of course I can't find the declaration of this function. It appears its alling the Shells messaging function. The function i found was ShellLocation_Messaging. I'm going to look deeper to see if i can use this to fix anything. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Just a thought! I know there is a can to diable 2.5 messaging! Will that provide some hints on how to make messaging work with 2.1?

I've seen the cab but i think its an actual app inistead of just modifying the manila we already have but it might work. I can give it a shot. To tell you the truth I'm starting to think its the contact utility dll that i have to modify.

@bxsteez i appreciate your work.. i yoinked your fixed tab and love it.... works great on my rom.. i have manilla 2.1 working perfect with the leo messaging enhancemen..
Thanks,
Josh

It only kinda works. Go into all messages and click on a text. It will take u back to the manila 2.1 messaging area and then you can't even send a text message at all. I've tried everything i know to get this thing to work. I think the shell messaging client changes when you use htc messaging client. I'm wondering if i integrate an older version of the client if it will make a diff

Does anyone know how to edit the lua scripts. The only programs i've found just constantly crash. I think i found a way to get this to work i just need to be able to edit the script.

I have HTC Messages 1.1 (build 1919.3512) from LEO (EnergyROM) and all is working fine - receivng, sending, composing, etc., all from within HTC Messaging app. It has some graphics glitch, at times, when in landscape. All rest good, SMS and MMS.
I am sure it will get better with higher release versions.

Is this Manila 2.1? And it all works from the manila messaging tab? When you go to all messages and click on a message it doesn't take to the universal contact application?

Hey there,
im not a cook in anyway but i like ur idea.
So, perhaps a little step on the way:
Is there a way to disable 2.1 Messaging?
So that tabbing on a massage brings me to WiMo threaded sms-screen?
Thanks

Yea there is a file that i posted earlier that will do that. It will only kinda do it though. It turns out that in the messaging.lua script it is calling a function to navigate to the people contacts screen which is where the messaging tab is. I feel like if i delete those if clauses and that function call we will have a solution. The problem i'm having is that the stupid compiler keeps crashing with some stupid nonexistant problem.

"Leo" EnergyROM is Manila 2.5. It won't help you I guess.

Threaded SMS

ok, so I tried SMS chat, and it's nice, but there are a few flaws that I am not sure of, I also heard that TEXTr is a little too buggy for its own good.
anyone know of a good app that will give me a chat type app. I tried a wile ago the Palm extracted version, but the MMS stopped working for some reason.
any ideas, is there an update to the Palm app, is there something else out there that someone recommends?
PocketCM at PocketCM.com is good. I use SMS-Chat by VITO personally, and I love it. The Palm App you can get fixes for so that you can get MMS working, if you do a few minutes of searching on the forums.
I have tried quite a few of these and have found SMS Chat is still tops. Only flaw is no quick search fuction.

I was having problems with my MMS but I think I will try SMS Chat until they get some of those bugs worked our. Thanks for the info.
I found that when using sms chat, touchpal back space to delete word not working. Anyone else experiencing this?
Just follow these steps

I found this small application called threader available at http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/
very simple but seems to work well on my HTC Kaiser
Am I missing something?
Am I missing something here? Why do you need other threaded-SMS app when it's already built-in in WM6.1?

I guess I dont know how to activate this feature because I dont seem to have it, if you know the trick to make it work it would be sweet because I cant find it
Firefly, did you back up your sms with PIM Back up and the restored them in the 6.1 rom?
if you did thats why you dont have threaded sms. it seems to be that when sms messages are restored n 6.1, it throws off the threaded sms feature.
Is there a way to close a threaded message or split it into its own thread?
Been having the same "conversation" for a week with the girlfriend and there is no relevence between one message and another.
Do you need Windows Vista to install WM6.1?
I don't have WM 6.1 but the latest WM6 update from HTC for my at&t TILT. It's stable but no threaded SMS app Can you install and flash to WM 6.1 or do you need to do it with a computer running Vista only? Is the SMS superior in WM 6.1? I use SMS daily to communicate and SMS Chat is the only app that has worked for me reliably. Yes the backspace button sometimes does not work and there is no emoticon support but unless you all have another option its sms chat or wm 6.1.

SMS Threader doesn't seem to be availalble from here anymore.

Yes here it is -
the sms in 6.1 rocks my socks...thats one of the main reasons why i flashed to 6.1 but in 6.0 i was using vito sms chat which worked quite well for me but i wanted it to be built in and not an external program
I'm quite happy with PocketCM. The new version integrates better between contacts and SMS and Phone better, too.

remove MMS from messaging.

Updated to wm6.1 and finding it a real drag to work around the MMS when making a new SMS in 'messaging'. Is there any way I can edit the menus to remove the MMS option?
Thanks!
Is there an advantage to have it separate from SMS?

Good question, I'd also like to knwo the answer.
What do you mean it is difficult to make a new sms.... click Messaging, click new click sms type????
That's my thought also!
If you want to separate your SMS and MMS, you need to search for and install a version of Arcsoft that does not use a merged inbox.
i dont think its possible to use a separte inboxes with kaiser roms
you can do a temporaraily fix if you are desperate and this will be creating two folders inside the inbox one called sms and one mms, but to be honest i dont think its logical to separte these two! in old devices we used to have this now they are merged (why taking step backward)?
I know some of the cooked ROMs have them separate. I prefer them together.

There's a cab in my 4shared folder that has them separated, but honestly if your sole reason is that it is too much work to have to click new--then scroll down one more space to "sms" then it makes me think that installing a new version of archsoft and running the connection wizard again will also be too much work.
You shoul consider installing htc action screen with will allow you to create a new sms very easily. Also, remember that once you have a thread for an individual you don't need to select a new message. Just go to the conversation with them and it will send sms by default.

cant get palm messaging working with manilla 2d

I have tried a bunch of roms and I cant seem to get palms threaded messaging working with the manilla 2d.
I really dislike the wm6.1 messaging.
My only problem is that the message doesnt show when I scroll to the messages button. but when i get a new message it does show on the count.
right now im using PDACornerUltimate.V5-20759
*edit* the text messaging and everything works i just want it to show on that screen

Palm sms takes over your regular sms function if i remember correctly, which means that to get it to show in manila2D then you'd need to do modify the actual manila application. Since you didn't know that, i'd say it's safe to assume that is beyond your abilities, and i don't think anyone probably thinks that it's worth it. I may be wrong of course, but i think you're just going to have to choose one or the other.
For future reference, this question should have been posted in any of the threads about manila2D or int he thread for the rom that you are using.

manilla 2.1 sms bug

Im looking to change the rom on my HD and see a lot of comments about the sms bug in manilla 2.1.
Im using Orange and from what iv gathered the bug affects Orange (and a few others). What exactly IS the bug and is it worth avoiding manilla roms 2.1 because of it?
seems to be related to the interface of SMS Manila where when You wrote a message, time by time the text still pending in the outgoing folder, so the sms is not delivered.
To bypass this problem, is what I have to do, is to replay directly to the SMS default page, instead of Manila interface...
I'm not to be sure that is clear, I really hope so...
Yes there is a bug in the Manila SMS application itself. You can either make a change and use the Windows default SMS application, use a different ROM with the older Manila, or live with it
you can't send 2 messages in a row to the same person, don't know is it only from manila or generally :/
hmm, i think it is how you sync ur contacts after flashing the rom. if you use pimbackup u will get the sms problem. however, if u sync via activesync, it should be fine. thats how i worked around the problem. hope it helped :]
I never had this issue and used activesync to backup contacts/emails
i've done it via Activesync, MyPhone, PIM, all options, without restoring old texts, with restoring them (again MyPhone) and got it every single time :/

I always use activesync to backup my contacts and calendar with google's gmail and always working.
Strangely enough, it seems carrier-related as well...
there is a cab, i think is call timefix that one work for me when i got that problem

ROM FULLY without HTC messaging

Lo all, I know you'll probably say 'use the search function' but I have and can;t find and full answer.
Question:
Is there a way to fully disable HTC messaging and not just so you can press the all messages buttonand see windows messaging program.
So if you are on Sense Messaging tab and you recieve a message from someone, you can click on it and it will take you to WM threaded messages for that person?
Hope someone can clear this up, I'm so confused with what these 'disable HTC messaging' actually do and how much they actually disable.

I advise you XannyTech roms without HTCMessaging
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565290
But these still have HTC messaging when you click on the SMS. I have been using Xanny's ROMS.
The only WM messaging they have is when you click on 'all messages' button.
Logicaslstep
He says he have 4 Versions:
With HTC Messaging
Without HTC Messaging
With HTC MESSAGING + MSVC
Without HTC Messaging + MSVC
I suggest to check or learn before you write things which are not true.
Without HTC Messaging means, that default SMS program is not HTC Messaging. However this program is called by other Manila's features. For example contacts from Call History. Once run, you can have possibility to switch into SMS of the person etc etc.
Note, that WM has build in call history, contact list etc - those features are still not replaced making HTC messaging stil alive.
HOwever, versions 'without HTC messaging' has the same functionality as stand alone mod: replaces all HTC Messaging shortcuts found in system by Mobile Outlook. And yes, it calls MO while hitting SMS from Manila SMS tab.
Well I'm using a without ROM and have on several occasions, they do not call the WM threaded sms from Sense SMS Tab when you click on a message. They still call HTC messaging.
Only when you click on 'All messages' does it launch outlook.
I would like to know if there is a way to call WM Threaded SMS program from HTC SMS Tab when you click on a persons sms.

PS who were you talking to when you said: 'I suggest to check or learn before you write things which are not true.'
I agree

1) Uninstall any messaging related cabs (including the Zenyee or Static cabs)
2) Disable Sense
3) Use Total Commander to Delete the "ManilaFull.xml" in the "\Windows" folder
4) Install the attached cab that corresponds to your device (GSM or CDMA)
5) Soft Reset
6) Go to "HKLM\System\Inbox\ExternalAccounts"
Rename "SMS" to "SMS.htc"

8) Install Arcsoft MMS software (go here if you need it)
9) Soft Reset
10) Enable Sense
Please let me know how it works for you guys!
I'd like to give credit to fone_fanatic, dagrim1, and xwpx520 for finding this information
with thinkblu method, there is one and only bug only, it didn't show bubbles showing how many unread message.

Rename "SMS" to "SMS.htc"
