Hi guys
I upgraded my XDA II a long time ago from 2003 to WM5, and all was fine, however any time I put a new version on 6.1, I still get the old programs installed from a previous version. I tried "downgrading" back to 2003 and there it works fine, however any time I install a 6.1 ROM, the old apps (and their error messages) keep coming back.
Is there a way that I can COMPLETELY wipe my Himalaya device and then install a 6.1 ROM from fresh?
Your help is greatly appreciated
Jim
do you HARD RESET, clear storage?, i mean the steps where you set it to NO, YES, YES? hard reset for 2006/2005 is different from 2003.
Hey Paul
Thanks for the fast reply... The answer to that part is NO... And that's because the camera button on my XDA is broken and so am unable to do that key sequence...
Any other ways to do the hard reset (with an application or such like)
Thanks
Jim
thats highly unlikely... the new roms(wm6.x) arent hard resetted by the usual manner the old ones were... for wm6.x the whole no, yes, yes routine is necessary... unless maybe some1 builds a rom that isnt hard reset persistent(thats wht they write with these roms n i think thats why these roms dont get cleared with the old hard reset).
Thanks for that...
... So if I understand you correctly, I DO need to run the NO, YES, YES routine to clear out all the other rubbish on my system... But if I can't do the keystrokes, can anyone think of a way that I can emulate this...
Thanks
Jim
My understanding is that there is no work around for this. How is the button broken? Is the whole button not there? or is the button there but the internal workings are broken?
After I did a hard reset, a strange problem appeared.
When I press the power button to put the device in sleep, it does, but after 4-5 seconds it automaticly switches back on.
I tried several things such as soft resetting the device, close all running programs and even another hard reset, but it won't work. I didn't install any programs so far...
More information about my ROM version etc.

I hope someone knows something I can try...

i see you have already tried the following but i'm going to write down how i would go about debugging the problem anyway. first, i would try the following steps in the following order to ensure it is not a software issue (it seems you have already eliminated the possibility that this is a software issue):
0. ensure you are using the correct hard SPL for your ROM. if you have never flashed a custom ROM and if you are using the ROM that came with your phone factory installed, you need not worry about this step or step 2 onwards
1. hard reset your phone and check the behavior of the sleep button BEFORE installing ANY of your favorite cabs and software...you have already done this
2. it is recommended to re-download the ROM image and re-flash it to minimize the possibility of a corrupted download or a bad flash
3. it is also recommended to hard reset your phone immediately after flashing the ROM at the point where it says "tap here to begin", i.e. before the screen alignment wizard
4. once again, test the behavior of the sleep button BEFORE installing ANY of your favorite cabs and software
now lets assume it is a hardware issue...here is a nugget of information that might help you. i remember reading a thread here started by a person who described a problem very similar to yours. it involved a "stuck" camera button. you see, the camera button is TWO-stage...and if the half-press stage is "stuck", your phone will never go to sleep properly. search for this thread for more information.
finally, if this is indeed a hardware issue, it seems strange that it appeared only after you did that very first hard reset...but life is full of coincidences !
good luck!
thanks for your suggestions, I will try them and post results.
no success
I tried the things you suggested, but it doesn't work. I also tried the power button when it says "tap your device..." but the device woke up after 4-5 seconds also.
I checked my buttons (especially the camera button, but that one seems to be well... I can feel the two "clicks" and I can take a picture in a normal way)
I'm thinking it might be a ROM problem or something like that... (but my problem is, if I want to go back to the previous official HTC ROM, the 6.0 one, I probably have to use HardSPL, but I don't like that much because of warranty...)
Ok other question... Can I install the Dutch Vodafone ROM on a non-branded HTC device, or could I get VendorID errors or something similar if I want to keep the original SPL?
fixed!
Ok, I fixed it after installing HardSPL 3.29 and flashing the latest WWE ROM...
Now my power button works perfectly!
Hello guys!
Sorry my bad english!
I installed to WM6.5 ROM in my HTC phone in february. I used may months, all day...
And yesterday i switch on my phone, put on my desk, and today, i see , that the screen get white. It dont do nothing, just get white. I restart the phone many times, and remove the battery, the phone do this: i enter my security password (i locked my phone) and then its go to white screen, and dont do nothing. And if i swich on my phone, and dont do nothing, its just go to frozen...

I dont know, but if i connected my phone to PC, the PC isnt known my device...
I dont do nothing, my phone was dead, and im a big trouble (((((((((((
PLEASE HELP ME!
did u try to hard reset it?
can u still enter bootloader mode?
if u can still enter bootloader then try flash another ROM
I think there is a timebomb in the Rom you are using.
Go to bootloader menu, connect to usb, and try to flash an other rom by installing via Windows.
okay, but what is the hard reset? Is that a red button on my device back?
if it is, i try this, but it isnt solve my problem.
and how i can go the bootloader menu?
thank a lot.
Don't worry...just try the hardreset:
1. With the device turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Continue pressing the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons until you see this message on the screen:
This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to the manufacturer default settings. Press VolUp to restore manufacturer defaults, or press other keys to cancel.
3. Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
4. Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
If this does not work...just flash another rom...it really seems to have this timebomb issue...you don't have a hardware problem...it's just the software.
here's a video instruction for the hard reset:

thanks a lot, the hard reset worked!!!

i will flash a new 6.5 ROM.

Flash the latest Hard SPL http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=179550&d=1240516932
I'm curious, what way did you flash these roms. Are you using USPL or HSPL or have you just flashed these straight from stock?
i used an older february HSPL, now, i will put on my device the latest version, thanks the idea!

2 versions of HSPL, 1.14 & 1.56. You will need HSPL 1.56 on your device to be able to use roms based on 1.56+
thanks a lot, i flash the new HSPL, and now, all phone function back to normal!!!
THANKS!!

Hello,
I was watching this thread continously and whenever i try to jump in to help you with tips about flashing, someone would have done it already.
I feel somewhat releived to know that your Kit(d) is back on track.
I like this forum very much not just for the solutions but also for the people's attitude.
Hi All,
Maybe someone can help me? My blackstone is quite old now but probably still in warranty. I have a Dutty Rom on it and would like to reflash back to a stock rom so I can take it for servicing under warranty but the down volume button doesn't work. I can't enter the flash mode.
Anyone know a way I can do this without the voulme button or maybe trigger the volume button another way. I tried using foil on it but that doesn't work.
thanks

If you leave your phone in the normal position ie normal boot up with manila loaded and then run the RUUWrapper, there is a little sub-routine included which automatically changes to bootloader mode (I never put the phone into bootloader before a flash). Luckily your volume up still appears to work so at least you can do the hard resets.

The blackstone has very very poor volume buttons, amazingly bad!!! Now the plastic volume buttons are totally broken. (after 10 months) But I can use the buttons correctly.
Poor material, poor HTC quality. Never HTC again.
make sure you get it to the stock SPL too because hardspl voids your warranty if they find it.
like clyde said, if you connect your blackstone to your computer via activesync, you can run the ROM update from your computer, without you having to manually put the phone into bootloader mode. not sure how youre gonna do a hard reset though (not sure if its necessary) as you need both volume keys to do that
good luck

True, I forgot you need both to do the hard reset, you can see I do this as second nature now without thinking.
Oh well, you'll have to live without the hard reset after the flash. There are many who say it's not necessary, although I religiously still do my hard reset after each flash.
There's an option to wipe the device in the System settings. I think this is equivalent to a Hard Reset.
It is. _

I never did a HR after flash, eventually I do a clear storage after some time, probably b4 loading all the apps, but will do a HR b4 flash.

Thanks All
For your replies. Much appreciated.
Hi all. Yesterday i had a big problem: my touchscreen didn't respond to any taps. It happened me once, 1 month ago, but i solved it by removing the battery. I did the same thing but this time - nothing. I reinstalled the ROM - Dutty's HG R12 - nothing again. Only when i've installed the genuine WM 6.5 from HTC. my touchscreen start to react again, i think 'cause that ROM has a small touchscreen tutorial. Then, i've reinstalled the Dutty's ROM and the touchscreen continued to work fine.
My question is: what is the explanation? What happened? I guess is something related to the WM touchscreen drivers...
Do you hard reset after flashing?

i think not
That would likely be the cause of your issue then.
Performing a hard reset and even flashing back to your original ROM between flashes ensures there are no reminence of your previous ROM to conflict with your current ROM.
