Customizing Start Menu in WM6.5 - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just installed the latest Cristian WM6.5 (full).
1) How can I rearrange programs on the honeycomb main app screen (not titanium or today) into different folders? Is there a windows directory I can manipulate to accomplish this?
2) How do I delete programs from memory that are not in the Remove Programs list (there was no "Clean" ROM available)? I don't want to just start removing folders then end up screwing things up.

BUMP
No one's tried this yet?

All shortcuts displayed on honeycomb are in windows\startmenu\programs.
Just go there, create your folders and put the shortcuts in it.
Do a soft reset and enjoy

That is exactly the problem; how do I remove a program from my PPC?
Because via Activesync doesn't work.....
The program I like to remove is minimo (mozilla for PPC's)
Thanks!
Have the same problem, Windows can not delete programfiles. When i install an update of a program, the setup failed. If i delete files manualy i can install the update. Had the same problem with original rom.

Try....
Start > Settings > System > Remove Programs.
This should do what you are after.
my dear friend thats the problem....by doing any of the above i cannot uninstall any programmes ...it say cant remove programmes but do u delet it from your list of removable progrrames...funny
Same here. Minimo would not uninstall
went to remove prog. it said it did but all it did was remove it from the remove programs list.
Hard reset here we go. Pocket mechanic was the same for me.
It's ok when you exactly know where the program is installed - you should simply delete its files. But how can I upgrade to .NET CF 2.0?
Installer can't remove previous version and I can't delete files manually cause I don't know what files to delete :-(
I've had the same problem trying to remove minimo and the Atomic Cannons Demo. :? So far these are the only items I have tried to uninstall. I just deleted the folders and shortcuts, but I'd rather figure out what's causing the problem!
Running the QTek test ROM (WWE) on a US Tmo MDA.
I also have that. however most of the time it works for me to soft-reset and then remove. for some reason that works (for me)
I would recommend a soft reset just prior to removing software from a WM5 PPC. WM5 only minimises most programs instead of closing them when you click the X so the application stays open therefore files are still in use which prevents a successful removal.
Even if the progam has been closed by Start>Settings>System>Memory>Running Programs or a task manager like in SPB Pocket Plus there is a chance that there are still associated files locked open unless a soft reset is done before uninstall. Windows Applications on the desktop will normally prompt for a restart after uninstall if files were in use however it looks like the majority of Windows Mobile apps (or Windows itself) dont have the same functionality (some Mobile apps do prompt for restart but not very many).
Also, apps with today screen plugins should be disabled, before a soft reset then uninstall the app as WM seems to lock the files open when active on today screen as well.
I havent had the uninstall error once since i have done a soft reset before uninstalling any software, hopefully others will have the same success. I know this wont apply to every situation but so far so good for me.
Cheers
Chris
Puckster is right.Run your task manager to see all runing programs and close them before trying to uninstall or simply soft reset prior to uninstall. It works without a flaw.

System Tray Removal

I would love to remove the system tray from my screen and be able to reclaim that space. How do I do that? (Using Dutty's Hybrid Rom No.4 Test RTM).

Go to your windows folder, then the startup folder and remove the shortcut entitled 'init_tray'. Soft-reset. If there are still items in your system tray, remove their shortcuts from the same folder, as well.
I don't have the file "init_tray"
I appreciate your quick response. I do not have the file "init_tray" in my windows startup folder. I have an AT&T Tilt with Dutty's Rom flashed onto it. Any more ideas? All help is appreciated.

Hi MNJ4EVR,
I am using the same rom, but I do not have any items in my system tray, did you install any apps that leave icons on the system tray?

windows files?
what are you using to look for these files? file explorer? or total commander resco explorer? some files can't be seen with file explorer. on second thought its not in my folder either (big storage rom) and when I use tomtom theres that tray
Are you referring to the menu bar at bottom with the two soft keys? If so I'd love to get rid of that to gain a bit more today screen space ??
I am also seeking to remove the system tray. (BTW, the soft keys are NOT the system tray...when there are icons, they appear ABOVE the softkeys and to the right).
Can't seem to find what registry setting to tweak or what file to remove. In other HTC devices, something sits in the startup folder, but there isn't anything there...frustrating.

I need a Bit of Advice please?

Hi,
I am a bit of a dumbass really.... and i need a bit of help.
I am looking for a software package to be able to remove items from the start menu and the programs list.... as i have programs i want installed but not be listed on the start menu or in the programs list.
If there isnt a software package available, then can i remove the option from within the registry?
Thanks in advance
Sean Saunders
you can edit start menu programs in settings/personal(tab)/menus
to delete shortcuts from start menu/programs folder you can delete this shortcuts in windows/start menu/programs
recent programs in start menu can't be removed. you can remove them with Advanced Config or KaiserTweak, but it requires soft reset and it removes them just for this session.
It's called File Explorer and is in programs. Somewhere..

Customizing WkTask Launcher

Hi,
I just got my "new" used diamond and flashed it the way I wanted it, than copied all the stuff I had on my Prophet before.
I installed the latest ver. of Wktask, which i think is really great by the way
After doing that, I tried to get all the "old" apps which i just copied from the SD-card of the Prophet to the internal Storage of the Diamond, to appear in the launcher of WkTask.
That's where the Problem starts: I can choose to add Programs to the launcher via
Add >> Browse >> Files...
Click to collapse
And at that stage the Software shows me a List of Applications that are on my Diamond. But there are only some Apps listed, others aren't. That's because they are in too many sub-folders (they are in
"\Program Files\app name\*.exe"
Click to collapse
). The ones that are in
"\Program Files\*.exe"
Click to collapse
are displayed correctly.
As WkTask can also work with *.lnk Files instead of *.exe files, I tried to make a Shortcut Folder and added Shortcuts via the PC (because that's some 50 Apps or so and it would take a while to to it via the Diamond) - but they did'nt work ( saying that they weren't made on a WM - Device and therfore wouldn't work)...
Now I am looking for a way to get my apps into that launcher - without having to move them into a different Folder.
Ideas, anyone?
Help would be appreciated.

Removing apps from stock rom (not through a kitchen)

I have a stock HTC Touch Diamond. I am wanting to remove the apps I don't use like Messenger and some others. I tried through ActiveSync but because they are built into the ROM they do not show up. Is there an app or something I can use to remove these?
Thanks

SKTools will allow you to remove apps that are installed on your device that don't show up in the Remove Programs part of Settings.
Also, you could hard reset your device and soft reset before customizations run and then install only the apps that you want.
Or, use activesync and browse to Windows-Start Menu-Programs and delete the program shortcuts that you don't want to see. Though with this option all you are doing is removing the program shortcut the program files are still there.
I tried SKTools but under the installed programs section it only shows the ones I have installed. I wanted to remove the likes of WLM, YouTube etc. I ripped all the ROM data (following one of the tutorials, so I have 4 RAW files but not sure how to combine them back to an NBH file so I can edit them in a kitchen to remove what I don't want.)
Ok well I managed to reconstruct the ROM but I have no idea how successful I actually was at doing such. I followed the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066. I really want to put this ROM on the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622093 but I am afraid that if I screw up the flashing and my reconstructing of the stock ROM didn't work that I would be screwed. Any suggestions? Also my provider doesn't make the ROM available and neither does HTC (for Rogers that is).
In SKTools if you go to the Installed Programs Section click on the right softkey and select settings.
Then scroll down to "Show Applications Not Listed As Installed." Change the setting to Yes.
Maybe then you can remove what you want.
Also, you can use the Move Data part to move files, folders, and applications to Internal Storage to free up space.
Believe it or not but that is not an option under settings that will show Applications not listed as Installed... running SKTools 4.5.1.4.
Scratch that. I found it
