Yesterday I took my battery out of my phone to remove the dust from inside the phone. When i replaced the battery back into the phone, it booted up into the tri-color screen and has been there ever since. I haven't modified the phone since receiving it from AT&T at all. When i actually noticed the problem I tried to reset the phone through the hole on the bottom of the phone. At first, it booted up normally but was out of batteries since it had been running on a bright screen for a couple of hours. Thus it turned off immediately. I have tried to reset it again but it seems to do nothing. Since then when I put the battery back in and I turn the phone on it returns to the tri-colored screen and it says SERIAL in the bottom white area. When plugged into my computer it says USB in the white area. On the top of the tri colored screen, in the red area, it says:
KAIS1*0
SPL-1.56.0000
CPLD-8
I thought about downloading the newest ROM update from HTC but my phone wont sync with my computer, and the tutorial says it needs to in order to install properly. If anyone could help, please let me know!
Update!
I put the battery back into the phone and it booted up just fine....it was a little slow and worked normally for a couple of minutes. Soon it started to act up. When i plugged the phone into my computer it automatically started to freeze, when i unplugged it from the computer it would work just fine! I then turned my phone off again and now it is back to the tri-color screen again!
try hard-resetting the phone.
To do this, hold down the two soft keys at the front while pushing the stylus into the reset hole. Just make sure to back up any data you want, as it will delete it all (files, contacts, etc.)
Tried a Hard Reset
When I finished it, it just went back to that tri-colored screen. Now the phone will turn on every 10th time i try and work for a couple of minutes. When the screen turns off it wont turn back on when i push the power button. The green light still blinks though.
I have been having this exact same problem for a little while now, any help would be more than appreciated.
EDIT: Everything about the phone was AT&T stock ROM from Oct. '07.
i think it replacement time
hi all once again.i was using my kaiser yesterday then my phone went into tri screen.tried hard reset soft reset.phone reboots in tri screen.im using Duttys Official WM6.1 Rom 5.2.19716 UC.
ihave kais130 mfg /spl 1-0.0lipof /cpld-8 on screen.
if there is a solution to this i would appreciate help in resolving.thanks in advance
Another sad update!
Well as of this second my phone works okay...slower than usual....but in an hour or so the screen will turn off and the phone will stop working, i will take the battery out.....wait about 45 minutes and hope that it boots up normally. No one has any idea why this is happening to multiple people? I have had this phone for maybe 3-4 months. Is the failure rate that broad and fast on these phones???
WTF
This phone is ridiculous. Now if I keep the phone plugged into my computer so the screen wont time off, the phone works just as normal. The moment I unplug the phone from charging it decides to die on me after an hour or so!
this happened to me last nite.
spent hours and hours trying to fix.
ended up reflashing orig att rom..
everything is fine..
proceeded on to a cooked rom and all is well..
added some apps ..
so far -- awesome
Good News!
Magically my phone started syncing with my computer randomly. Thus it allowed me to flash the rom with the original ATT rom and so far my phone is back to normal working great!
tri screen sorted
i bought my kaiser off ebay..i couldnt sort tri screen.i had various roms on at various times .i had no warranty. on pay as you go.decided to take to local o2 shop.got it back today fully working for free.took them 8 days.
Hey, did you have any luck fixing this problem - I've been looking mad for a solution to my tri-screen problem, but no joy...
KAISI*0
SPL-1.93.0000
CPLD-8
appears on my screen.... I don't now how to fix this puppy and it's only a couple of months old...
I started plugging the charger in and soft reset and it would work until i could find a new OS for it, Rom or RUU I think, I am not sure if it works, but now I can't get it off Tri-Screen to run it..
Any help anyone please?
You better take a look here for a solution : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=423486

Just yesterday i set my phone down (in my car) and went in to a restaurant to get food. After i was done eating i came out and now when i power it on it says:
"SIM door is unlocked, please lock it. The device will automatically turn off in 10 seconds".
The sim door IS locked, and i have tried flipping a little black switch right under the sim door locking mechanism in hopes that that was the problem. But now about 20 hours later with the battery out and the sim door wide open in a bag of rice it gave me the same result.
Is my phone ruined? could it possibly be that quirky? And is there ANYTHING I can do?
I recall reading about someone else with that problem on here. Vaguely.
Is there at least any way that i can make this phone able to be sent in to HTC?
Bump to beg for help! Please anyone have any idea how to bypass this? or if i can get a new switch? any help at all would be hugely appreciated!
If this happened to me I would of flashed back to the original rom just in case something would of happened thereafter.
When you remove the battery in your kaiser is there a small round sticker? This is an indicator whether the device has water damage or not. I believe if it is white then there is no evident water damage if it is red then there is.
I may have found a solution for you
Open sim door then let the device turn off again. Power on the device. Once the device gets to the splash screen go into bootloader mode by holding down the camera button while soft resetting. You can flash the original rom from there.
edit: when your in bootloader mode your sim door can be open....
Thanks! that was very helpful, I never thought to try flashing it because if it turned off in 10 seconds it would ruin the device! The sticker on my device is actually rectangular, and its white (no suprise to me)
I suppose my best bet is just flashing it back to a regular ATT ROM and sending it in for repair.
hi, i have my htc touch diamond flashed with BElite's ROM and this is the first time it happened, and I can't boot the device. It will act like it's starting up, and past the first "htc touch diamond" that shows on the screen, it'll show hte RGB on the bottom right and go black normally, then show it again but with RGB lines all over the screen. sometimes itll make hte htc sound and show hte htc thing then go back to the rgb lines. when i hit reset, the screen is full of different colored lines up and down

Hard reset, and if that fails, reflash?
i hit the reset button on the back, but everytime it turns on, it just shows a messed up screen. sometimes white fuzz, sometimes rgb crazy lines, and i think my d-pad and the back is heating up a bit....sometimes itll show hte initial screen.

The reset button only does a soft reset, which doesn't sound like it's helping, try hard reset and see what that does.
i tried the hard reset method, but the message that's supposed to pop up doesn't show and no response. maybe its an overheat problem so im letting it sit. but i don't know. The warranty is obviously voided so sending it in is going to cost a lot of...cha-ching.
Hmm... before you flashed, did you do all the things like install HardSPL? If you connect the device to the computer, does it connect (so you can do another flash)?
yeah I have the HardSPL flashed on it. Everything has been working perfectly until this afternooon when i pulled my phone out of my pocket and the screen was fuzzed. I let it sit for hours and it SEEMED to get better because it showed the "device is preparing for first use" screen but the bottom half was crooked and off to a side. and it froze like that. btw thanks for all your help
I let it sit overnight, then this morning when i tried it. EVERYTHING was perfect, i got the date and time setup and the calibration, but when it started to load windows, it frozen, restarted itself and showed rgb dots around the touch diamond initial screen. Thanks for any help.
new symptom: when i plug it in to charge, both pc and ac, it shows that it's charging and it gets warm but, when i unplug it, it keeps showing the center key flashing in the circle it does when it's charging. and it never finishes charging.
I got some water on my G1 (possibly crept in through the slide mechanism) and I have this (unique) problem.
After the water damage the phone did continue working for a few hours before it became unstable and just hung. The "home" key became intermittently unresponsive.
Now, after some time it has gotten into an infinite loop to "recovery mode" screen when rebooting, Alt+L gets me the prompt but Home+power does not reboot, popping the battery brings me back to this screen after the bootup.
Now if we assume that home button is stuck in "on" state this would result in this loop (that is my guess).
I have already attempted reflashing with cupcake (completes successfully and prompt for reboot but I end up again at the recovery screen). I tried getting to RC29 (to ultimately move to Haykuro) with the steps elsewhere in this forum (and many other places on the net) but I cannot get to the boot loader always the recovery screen (camera + power button).
Also attempted wipe several times, the loop persists.
I dont know if the camera button is working, so its possible the the key combo is not getting registered for my bootloader attempt.
Any help on possible things to do is appreciated.
Going to t-mobile is not an option, my friend brought it back from the US and I unlocked it with the intention of development on that platform. I cannot send it back to the US even though it is under warranty, just don't think they'll entertain water-damage.
Hey, I have this same prob. I bought a phone that had been dropped in water for about $50 thinking that since it did get to the T-mobile g1 screen i would be able to get to the recovery utility ( and recover). I could get to the utility but no amount of wiping or flashing worked. I also tried flashing every ota official rom i could get my hands on (since this phone didnt have root). But nothing worked.
At one point i found the official HTC Dream repair manual and posted it in the Dev forum, but who knows if its still there or much like this post, has been moved. Inside the repair manual pdf there is a link that will take you to the HTC RMA III login page. If you can get a user/pass you can prob log in and find the diagnosic prog HTC uses to troubleshoot. I have searched high and low for one of the user/pass but only found a couple that had already been closed. So maybe you could try to find a user/pass, get the diagnostic prog, make a G1/Dream gold card sd, fix your phone and help the whole forum. I dont think anyone has a copy of the diagnostic yet, or at least i havent seen it.
Let me know if you are able to find a work around. I have already completely taken the phone apart to use as spare parts, but I can always reassemble!
Went through the service manual, I tried to do a soft reset (never got to the prompt). Next, I attempted hard reset (home + back + power) and I reach the prompt that says "press send to start factory reset", but nothing happens when I press the "call" button (assuming "send" is same as "call").
I will attempt to look through the net a bit more and if nothing comes up I am thinking of opening up the phone and see if I can do something to the buttons in case they are internally jammed.
Thanks for your help though!
I need help with this as well!

I have this same problem!
Is there a way we can remove Recovery mode
or disable the home key somehow?
on a water damaged phone you have ONE and ONLY ONE choice. you have to take the phone apart.
first make sure to get the service manual and it will show you how to take the phone apart properly, then you'll need a large bowl of rubbung alcohol(or some other volatile solvent)
take each piece of the phone apart and dip in the alcohol for several seconds completely submerging it, then take 10-15 minutes SCRUBBING the piece from every possible angle with a toothbrush. when you have finished each piece set on a clean towel or dry rag. repeat for all pieces of the phone.
then take a hair dryer and set it to low and dry the pieces of the phone for about an hour(or you can let sit for a day) and be sure to flip the pieces over halfway to ensure full drying. i have used this approach on many phones(one of which being a phone i found at the bottom of a lake). i am not promising that this will fix your phone as you probably shorted out a few circuits when you continued to use the phone, but it will help as long as nothing has short circuited
Same problem..
I'm also having the same problem... Any Solution ??
Hope is always an option. Testing is a SOLUTION!!!
I have the same problem with the home key being stuck after humidity entered my phone. Which boots me straight to recovery mode. I have managed to recover my phone with the following steps:
YOU MUST HAVE ADB AND FASTBOOT INSTALLED IN YOUR PC!!!
1) If your phone has the home button stuck, you can't update or confirm anything with the Cyanogen Recovery! Because you need the Home button to confirm. So you must revert your Recovery back to JF's Recovery to use the recovery properly in this case.
2) I have tried for weeks to make the system bypass the recovery and have succeeded. YOU MUST REBOOT YOUR PHONE FROM RECOVERY TO BOOTLOADER. So use ADB to reboot in to Bootloader mode ( adb shell reboot bootloader ). Now that your in Bootloader mode, use the FASTBOOT commands ( fastboot reboot ) and voila, it bypasses the recovery.Make a script on your Winbows or Linux to make it as easy as one click!
Before you disassemble try this.
Take off the back and remove the battery. Take out the sdcard. Put the phone, all opened up, in a ziplock bag full of uncooked rice. Leave it in there for 24 hours. Put it back together and 99 times out of 100 this will fix your problem. The rice is dry, like really dry and will suck the moisture right out of there. It is also dirt cheap.
Good luck.
Thanks, But Unfortunately my message got noticed a bit too late
My phone is working fine since the last month ..
@RichiDaze
Unfortunately m my phone was unrooted , without terminal in the stock recovery console, so i could not use ADB...
@Billquinn1
Would have helped if moisture had not corroded my connectors....
But Thanks for your replies...Hope it helps people having similar problems ..
What i ended up doing was taking a safety pin and started scraping(gently) the non shiny parts of the connector ( daughter board to main board) .
I think it was previously shorted near that area , so by scraping removed the shorted metal joints ..
The Recovery problem did not reoccur since then
Well a couple of days ago I was being dumb and swinging on some a construction thing and my phone fell out of my pocket about 3 feet off the ground. Well it landed on it's face and I picked it up thanking god my screen didn't shatter but I clicked the power button and it was all white with some vertical green lines. After about 5 seconds the screen goes black and my phone is just dead. I have no idea what's wrong with it but when I hold the power button when it is plugged in the home and back arrow flashes and the phone vibrates. It also does this if I hold the Power and Volume button but nothing happens on the screen. I need help diagnosing this to see if it is an LCD problem so maybe i can just get that replaced instead of the whole phone. Also, the first time I plugged my phone in to the computer HTC manager popped up but now it just wouldn't detect it. Help please!
