Try K9 Mail. It supports the IMAP Idle extension, assuming you can connect to an IMAP server.
What kind of email account is it?
its a hotmail account
I don't believe Hotmail supports IMAP.
If you're in the market for a new email address, try tunome.com It's an AOL site for free email with hundreds of domain names to choose from. I know they support IMAP also for free.

when i setup xpress mail useing the yahoo tab it is sending email from my pocket pc as the @yahoo.com email and it uses my full name instaed of what i have it setup with. it will not use my personal address email even though i have it setup in yahoo and the yahoo settings are the same. now i can chose other in the xpress mail setup and either choise imap or pop. then enter the email address that is my personal address email and then when i send email from my device its the one i want to use but i lose the instant push option and i have to maunal get my email. so what i need is the settings that xpress mail uses when i setup useing the yahoo feature. i cant see the settings because all it asks if the user name and password. so i need to know what xpress mail is useing for setting for yahoo to get the instant push working?

I have been trying to setup my two hotmail email accounts on my X1. It don't seem to be happening, am, I to conclude that it cant be done?
I tried too...don't think it's possible. I just have one account forwarding email to the other. This way I get push email on both live accounts.
EDIT: There is also an option in Windows Live (online) that lets you link other email accounts to your Live account.
cant you configure one account with live messenger and the other with a normal pop3 settings?
dont you need mail server information to set up pop3 ?
@Whybe: my accounts are linked but I would have to go online to check the mail everytime
On Cyanogen's ROM, there's 2 email apps. One called eMail and the other is Work Email. I want to sync my school email to the phone. So, I don't want it taking them off the server but just copying them. Anyway let me know which one I should be using, and maybe what's different about them?
I'd usually forward to my Gmail but my school filters out forwarded mail to Gmail.
You should use eMail for the task. Work Mail is to connect to exchange server.
My suggestion is K9 Mail. You can download from Market, and it has much more features than stock eMail app.
There is no free Mail app for Android I tried so far that I could say I like.
GMail app misses some important GMail functions, eMail app never ever shows me notifications even though I enabled them, Work eMail is exchange only with nearly no options and K9 has graphical, usability and speed issues.
Maybe I should try Touchdown Exchange for my University Mail (which uses exchange).
Are there any other Mail apps someone could recommend?
I have several email accounts... they are all POP3 accounts. On my pc I have Outlook, Thunderbird, and Pegasus as clients... and I telnet into my shell account for the fourth email account. (None are gmail accounts)
I'd like to have at least some of them on my Xoom... At the very least, I'd like m work email and one of my personal email accounts on my xoom.
I currently have no email clients configured...
What would be the best way to go about this??
I don't need the messages all downloaded... I'd rather just get headers for them and if I want to read a certain message then it would download the body.
Is that even possible??
Thanks!!
K-9 Mail, available free in the market, will do what you want.
At first on the Note I used the Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail apps to get my emails rather than use the stock email program. I tried today to set up my yahoo email, made sure it was configured online for pop3 access yet on the Note when I go through set up and enter the email address and password I get an error saying incorrect email address or password which cannot be as they are correct.
Any ideas why this is happening?
other than making sure that you are typing the email address and password correctly.... i really do not have any argument to make. different yahoo address like .co.uk use different pop3 and smtp address. regular users need to subscribe to plus services.
Yes yahoo pop access is paid service, you need to subscribe plus service.
Juast try to use imap service in stock email application, not sure but may work. If you are not happy with yahoo mail appl, find seven 7.54 apk on xda, i have uploaded few time back, one of good n real push support for yahoo.
