Hello guys,
I am new to posting so I hope I am not breaking any rules here. I have been using my Tilt for almost 2 years now. I recently flashed to the TPCE Ultimate rom and it owrked great for a few weeks. Now all of a sudden the sound will not work from my phone's speaker and apparently callers cannot hear me either. Everything works via bluetooth, so I am assuming it is only the speaker and mic. I have read the threads regarding the radio issues and have flashed every radio on the list. I have also flashed back to an ATT rom and reverted the radio to the original one. Still same issues. I thought the speakers could have just gone bad, but after flashing the Stock rom I get sound during the cheesy ATT 3g splash screen. Once it starts up however no sound again. Anyone got any ideas what could be wrong. Thanks to in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond.
Cheesy, exactly.
Well, I am in the same boat.
Will someone help us, please?

did search could not find the issue I'm facing maybe I missed something. I recently got a free tytn II upgrade from 3,and since day one I have been getting this intermittent issue where no can hear me at the other end when a call connects especially on I dial out, it's as if the mute is on when in fact it's not??
So I thought it could be radio issue and flashed several radios but still the problem is there, initially I had Radio 1.27.12.11 then I flashed 1.27.12.17 and finally flashed 1.27.15.32 but the issue is still there is it because I'm still using WM6? should I flash my tytn II to WM6.1 or is there radio anyone can recommend? or is it known a hardware issue?
No one have any ideas why this is happening?? I'm sure cannot be the only one facing this issue?
if u have had prob since day one than i suggest u take it to ur carrier and ask them for replacement.
any voice/camera issues i've had were always radio related and flashing right radio fixes prob for me.
p.s check camera if not working than problem is w/ radio.

The reason as of yet I haven't returned it to my carrier for replacement is I suspected this was a software issue not hardware because if I take out the battery or do SR the problem disappears!
In any case after seeing other threads with similar issues, it turns out it could be S2U2 that could be causing it so I did a hard reset then re-flashed HTC stock ROM, fingers cross so far so good

I guess I spoke too soon! it seems the mic is truly dead! as the voice recorder doesn't even pick up my voice let alone on call connect, all that flashing back and forth for nothing
Anyways I'm sending it back to my carrier for either repair or replacement
glad to see u got the prob figured out solid example of what xda is about: self learning
Can someone help me? I read through the WIKI and did a search and couldn't find anything. For some reason, my phone just totally crapped out! It won't get a signal at all then after like 5 mins, it gets a full signal and I try to make a call. It just goes to "Call Ended" almost immediately and can't find the signal again. The phone will randomly accept incoming calls, but if I answer it drops the call. Also, for some reason, I can't connect to my Windows Mobile Center anymore. I am running Kumara.DK.2.WWE with 1.65.24.36 radio. It was working great, then I just stopped. This happend to me before and I flashed a bunch of combinations of ROMs and radios, and nothing worked. I also tried all the HardSPLs to no avail. Then, like 3 days later, it just started working again.
If anyone has any ideas or could help in any way, I would greatly appreciate it!
Oh...by the way it's an ATT Tilt and i'm in Houston, TX if that matters.
Sound like a flaky radio chip. Hope you are under warranty.
As long as you are the original owner of the Tilt, you are still under warranty since the Tilt has not been out for a full year.
Follow the instructions linked in the Wiki to revert your phone back to original AT&T specifications, and then call the warranty group and have them send you a replacement phone.
Yeah...I just got the phone in March...Thanks for the information! I really appreciate the quick responses!
I have a wierd problem with my tytn II and am wondering if anyone else has had it too.
Basically the person im speaking to sometimes hears my voice like im really distant. I can hear the other person fine.
its intermitant and happens when the call is long or short.
Im on orange and have had the phone replaced three times in the month ive had it. But each time I have had reports of my voice sounding distant.
Throughout the duration of the call my voice will change from normal to distant then back to normal.
Any suggestions/advice is much appreciated
It could be the SIM or it could be that you have a bad radio. Try changing the radio first since that's doable right now.
Do you mean the radio rom version?
sorry, Im pretty new to all this.
Thanks for the quick reply.

I agree. Your first and best course of action right now would be to try a new radio. The radio controls everything to do with your phone calls. Read about ROM upgrading in the wiki for more info on this.
Hi
I was wondering if anyone has encountered the following problem...
When I make a call or receive a call the person on the other end of the conversation says that I sound really quiet and that they can barely hear me. I have tested this myself and found the audibility very poor.
I've a Eurpoean model, operating on the o2 network in Ireland
Please don't flame me and tell me I should have searched as I have read the other thread on "call voice quality issues" and this is a seperate issue as in that thread they claim that they sound robotic to the other person whereas I sound fine but just barely audible
Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is a major issue with the phone.
Also please ignore my signature as I haven't had a chance to update it and I've a very poor internet connection at the moment so I can't do it right now
Thanks
Hi,
I'm also using the Diamond on O2 in Ireland and I've not experienced that issue. People seem to be able to hear me fine.
Could be a firmware issue. My stock ROM was some old ME firmware but I've since flashed to 1.93.401.2 WWE. Works very well in all respects, and you never know it could help with your volume problem.
Hi thanks very much for the reply
Hoped someone else from Ireland would see my post
What radio are you using and what SPL?
Where did you find the ROM & radio? I searched for the ROM reference you gave in your last post but it showed up nothing. I'm probably not searching correctly though. I want to make sure I flash an identical version to yourself to ensure I have a successful resolution to this problem cos its driving me mad at the moment
Thanks
Hey, sorry for taking so long to reply.
I upgraded to [ROM][WWE]HTC_Europe_1.93.401.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.2 5.12_1.00.25.05_Ship (post is here) after first flashing my Diamond with Unsigned-Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex from here.
Having done that, my radio is at 1.00.25.05 and the ROM version is 1.93.401.2 WWE. After putting on the HardSPL, I flashed the actual ROM but I didn't take any extra steps to upgrade the radio. Seems like it was included in the ROM update I downloaded. I see tutorials around the place for flashing a different radio, but that didn't seem necessary in my case.
I should also mention that my Diamond is DIAM100 (reset whilst holding the Volume Down key to check if yours is a DIAM100 too) as I think there are issues using certain SPLs with different DIAM versions.
Having done this upgrade, Opera is much faster and more stable, TouchFLO is very fast and smooth and everything is generally hunky dorey. The Diamond goes together pretty well with O2 Billpay and the 250mb data add on. I don't understand this iPhone hysteria where people are thrilled to have an 18 month contract for at least 45 quid a month. Go Diamond go.
thanks a million for your reply
After spending most of the day reading I managed to get the problem solved by installing hard SPL and updating the radio... I'm not sure how it fixed it but it did so I'm happy
I'm on o2 prepay... unlimited texts to any network is very appealing... would love a data package but don't want to be tied to a contract
thanks again
Good stuff.
Would still recommend upgrading the main ROM aswell though, its much more stable and smooth than the stock ROM.
Adios
Dave
I had the same complaint. Everytime I talked to someone, they complained about the quality of my phone call.
I called HTC and they said when the new ROM came out, it would help. It had something to do with the lack of 3G or another band.... I can't remember which band but the point is, for us, in the US, the choice of bands was the problem.
Now that I've updated my ROM, I've had no issues.
Mark
I have this issue. I hear the calls loud and clear but the person on the other end claims they can hardly hear me.
I'm using ROM 1.93.456.2 WWE from 7/10/08
Radio 1.00.25.05
Any recommendations on what to do?
Thanks
hi
in my case it was my microphone that was broken on the phone
i returned the phone to HTC to repair it and since I got it back its working perfectly
The way to check if the microphone is not working is to record yourself talking using the voice recorder. That will tell you if it's the microphone or not
Thanks. I checked and, although it isn't going to win any sound quality awards, I don't believe it's broken.
I'll maybe compare it to my Touch and see if there is an obvious difference before proceeding.
Hopefully it can be corrected in a software change...
I think I have the same problem. I posted it on the "Support Centre" thread.
My Diamond was working fine, I did some ROM updates with no problem. One day my wife started complaining that she could barely hear me. That was the case with everybody else. I could hear them perfectly but my voice was too low for them. Checked the volume and restared the Phone with no results. After a lot of random testing the phone came back to normal. This problem happened again a few days later and I noticed that people could her me fine when i was using the stero phones, but could barely hear me through the embedded mic on the Phone. This time only a hard reset was able to bring the phone back to normal.
Now things are worse! After a hard reset or a new ROM update the phone works fine for a few hours than the problem starts and nothing can bring it back to normal (only a hard reset).
I dont think it is a hardware problem because the phone works after the hard reset, but I tested some different ROMs an the problem persisted.
At the moment I am downloading other ROMs and RADIOs to see if it does any good. If someone has any idea I would love to hear it!
Thanks in advance.
@ Maddog
That sounds exactly the same as the way my problem progressed
I tried numerous radio's & rom's to try solve the problem and immediately after installing a new rom or radio the microphone worked (therefore i assumed it was a rom/radio issue) but like you it stopped working soon afterwards
Eventually no matter what rom I installed no one could hear me on the other end of the call and after ringing HTC they told me it must be the microphone. I sent it back and they fixed if for free. Must say I was impressed with their service
Thanks Lassykk,
Not a good news for me as my cell is from europe and I live in Brazil... well, I think I am going to buy a Jawbone2 Bluetooth headset and will try to live with the problem untill I travel back to europe on the end of the year.
Thanks.
I live in ireland and my nearest repair centre is in the UK. They were happy for me to send to the UK and they fixed it and sent it back to me with minimal fuss.
I assume you could send it to your nearest repair centre. Might be worth looking into it. You need proof of purchase though if you bought it off ebay or somewhere you didn't get a receipt
Hope this helps
Hi everyone I have an at&t Tilt. I have put hard spl and unlocked it and I have flashed roms with no problems. about 3 months ago I was on the phone and the other person could not hear mean. all they heard was crackling.
Ever since then this is all the other party hears. (sometimes it will randomly work for about 10 seconds)
Right now to make calls I have to use a bluetooth reciever. WHen i use this reciever everything works perfect.
THe problem with that is that I hate using bluetooth with a deep passion. So I have tried flashing different roms with no success. Even old and new at&t roms. Then i tried flashing different radios with no success. still people cant hear me when Im not using bluetooth. (except those random 10 second times.)
any ideas or is it time for a new phone??
sounds like the wiring to the microphone might be corroded or loose
I had the same problem with my Tilt. After trying a dozen other radios and then putting the original spl and rom back on to the unit, I determined it was a hardware issue. As the person above commented, im sure was the mic. After a couple hours on the phone with ATT. I went to a warranty center and got a refreb.
I hope it doesn't happen to this one. I only have 3 months of warranty left.
If anybody else has a similar experience I would like to know.
problem
I recently flash my rom on the att tilt and now i can not hear anything when I am talking on the phone. Waht should I do?
please help.
