Thanks to my recent stupidity I just had the idea to make a thread that we might share some of our ridiculously stupid mistakes that we later found out could have been solved by simply thinking things through.
Hopefully this'll help new owners of the phone avoid our mistakes.
My mistake just happened 10 minutes ago, and I'm rather annoyed it happened... oh well... another 4 hours of setting up my Kaiser won't kill me...
Anyway, I refuse to carry my Kaiser with me until it is properly protected in its case, so it's just been sitting here around the house while I tamper with it and wait for my case to get here. Consequently, I'm using 2 phones, and I swap the sim card between them.
I turned on my Kaiser and got scared pantsless. It would only stay on for a few seconds, and then turn off. Of course it scared the heck out of me... the phone is only 4 days old. So after soft resetting failed, I resorted to the hard reset... well, apparently something got turned off when I flashed dutty's rom to the phone, and the little screen that reminds you about the sim door being unlocked doesn't come up.
So it turns out my phone was turning off just because the sim door wasn't locked... and now I have the task of installing and re-configuring everything I had on the Kaiser... which I'm about to start now. 4 hours of repeating history here I come!
My buddy threw up all over mine at a party.. luckily it cleaned up nicely!
So the dumbest thing i've done with it, is leave it somewhere other than my pocket? lol
Believing the hype !!! and getting one. Well maybe. Because this is one "son of a ***** " phone to get working
Bought one. No video drivers FTL.
Besides that....nothing really. just being clueless on how to flash a ROM I guess even though I want to return it because of video drivers!! I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO....
Dropped mine (and did not notice) while running across a busy street in downtown Calgary.
It was consequently run over by at least 1 car! I lost the back case, the battery was all banged up, and the power button was permanently pushed in, but guess what....it still turned on and I could make calls!!!!
Anyway, with no insurance, I thought I was up a creek with no paddle. AT&T hooked me up with a new one at 1/2 cost. I guess they heard the pain in my voice when I explained what happened.
last week end i made the stupid mistake of making an infinite loop on my today screen.
i was messing around trying to find a way to hide the VitoFindMe text at the bottom of my today screen, and since SPB Pocket plus (for some reason) didn't hold the plugin, i tried PocketBreeze, it put it in and it worked. so i put PocketPlus as a tab in it also just to get it to how i like, but it didnt allow me to put a personal tab as the default and i didnt need all of the extras, so i turned it off and put SPB back on the today. I decided to try one more time to put FindMe in SPB before i gave up, but i accidentally put PocketBreeze in it, and since PocketBreeze had SPB in it, it basically looped, froze and stopped on trying to boot when reset... so now i had to hard reset and i had to go through the task of putting all of my programs and stuff back on!
Yey what fun.
I bricked mine

how?!?!
RLoD very simple
I picked it up to check if SK Tools had finished cleaning ....................
while making whoopie with the ole' lady. Yeah, I got slapped upside the head with my Tilt & no more nookie for 2-weeks.
& boy, does she hate Lori now. (That's my Tilt name because I like the slightly *****y tone of Lori TomTom's voice)
Pwnt !
I accidentally locked my SIM card tryin to set up my keypad lock everytime u take the phone out of sleep mode. I was scared ****less. I could barley even hold the stylus in my hand to try and fix. basically, i had to log in to my wireless account on at&t, found my PUK code and everything was straight after that.
When I first got my Tilt, I kept it plugged in, since I have heard you should fully charge when you first get it. Well, I went to sync it, and it simply would not sync at all. I unplugged it, and replugged it. Still nothing. I checked all cables. Everything was properly hooked up on PC and ppc.
I was so mad, because it just would not work. So, I called ATT tech support. They made me soft reset, hard reset etc.
Finally they said, phone must be broken, they would exchange it for me. While I was waiting for her to do the exchange request (or whatever you call it), I just happened to notice that I had it plugged into the WALL charger, NOT the usb on computer (both cables were sitting right next to each other).
OMG, I felt so dumb, I hung up on AT&T, and had quite a chuckle at my stupidity
hmm, the dumbest thing I done that has to do with my kaiser?
I bought it!

At first I thought the dumb thing was refusing to carry your phone without a case.
Dumbest thing I did was using it while walking fast inside best buy. I dropped it and happend to land on the toe of my shoes while I happen to take a step. I kicked it about 30-40 feet accross the floor. The phone, battery, and the cover all went 3 directions. Luckily the floor was carpet. No scratches on the phone, reboot still works fine. I WAS PISSED.
People keep saying buying it is the dumbest thing they did but it's not. Keeping it beyond 30 days is the dumbest thing. If you bought it, own it, be proud. If you felt that buying the tilt is the worst mistake you've ever made, you should have returned it within the return period. There are other people from CDMA carriers wish they can get the Tilt.
I gave my phone to my Girl friend for a day (DUMB !!!!)
Now I neednt explain what happens when phones go into women's hands
she dropped it from the 3rd floor in her hostel
luckily I got it replaced (rich girlfriend's dads )

I know what you are talking about.
My dumbest thing was to give the kaiser to my girlfriend to play with it. She loves the bubble breaking game, and now everytime I am with her she is playing the f**king game.
I live in Australia, and have a Telstra branded Diamond, although it is unlocked ( i use Optus Sim card) anyways i was hoping to install unbranded cooked rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=422417
I didn't know I needed to install HardSPL, i tried but it failed so i continued on (i know I'm retarded) so i tried using the Diamond Unlocker.
I hit Next, Next, Next until it got to progress bar it stayed on 0% then jumped to 100% and said that my device wasn't compatible or something like that, at that point the image on the diamond faded to black screen. I This happened when i tried Hardspl but i just hit reset and it turned back on alright.....this time it didn't, it doesn't react to the power button at all, iv tried hitting the reset button, booting into boot loader even though I'm pretty sure it doesn't have one, and tried MTTY which I'm pretty sure it pointless because my diamond doesn't turn on.
Please share any knowledge or ideas you have on how i can fix my Diamond, or where i can send it to be repaired (I have no warranty with Telstra by the way)
Is my diamond bricked for life?
EDIT: In the hope that my Diamond will return to life by holding the power button, i have noticed i can still feel the vibration it usually makes when turning it on although NO DISPLAY

Why you don't search the repair centre address from the HTC Australia pages?
I found this: http://www.htc.com/au/supportcontent.aspx?id=22104

Please ensure that you bring your Proof of Purchase and
all fault related accessories when you come into Fonebiz.
Thats the only problem, i have already thought of this, although i don't have proof of purchase anymore, can i still get it repaired without proof of purchase?
ANY Replies or ideas are appreciated, please HELP
I would contact them without a receipt you may have to pay for the repair
but I don't see why they should not make money of you repairing your broken device
Thanks for the reply, my question is, i bought this phone off a friend and knowing him he got it from someone else who probably has stolen it, so if i take it in for repairs and it is stolen I'm screwed....right?.....are they able to I.D a stolen device?
Thats what you get when you buy a stolen device. You'll pay it back one way another.
I guess but for $250 who wouldnt take it. I guess i should have read ALOT more instead of rushing a flash. So last question, does anyone know if its physically possible to fix the phone, if it be replacing a bit or get a technician to hardwire or something......is it possible? or am i stuck with a nice new paperweight?

I think its a case of what goes around, comes around.
Hey
I have a similar problem. But mine is bought and original and I have a receipt. Anyways, there's no way around the sending, is there? Because, I think, it'll take a lot of time and regarding the fact, that the mistake is on my side, the warranty is void, isn't it?
Hi, everytime i turn on my diamond, it just shows white noise. Does that mean it's bricked ? Sometimes i might get lucky and it'll run normally but then restart itself and show noise again. I tried entering bootloader and reflashing spl and ROM, and it all goes well but it never flashes on. It'll get stuck at 0% and on the computer, it'll say that there was an error. I need to reflash the original spl and rom before i send it in so the warranty doesn't get voided.
Hi, I have had a major problem with my diamond for the last 2 months now...
Basically, my problem has the same symptoms as your phone, (I.E. the screen may freeze on bootup, showing a snowy effect), as well as freezing consistently for no apparent reason....
Anyway, the problem that I am having is heat related...
(I know, I know... Please read on for more information)...
When I say heat related, I dont mean that my Diamond is too hot to hold...
My Diamond only works when the ambient temperature is around 10*C or below 15*C...
Any temperature above that (room temperature), and the phone will work for a minute or so.....
HTC Support in Australia has acknowledged that there is a problem with the phone, and have told me that the phone was shipped from Turkey, and that I should contact them for warranty service...
However HTC Turkey have been close to useless when replying to my problem.
I suggest you check to see if the symptoms are the same as mine, and if so, get on to the HTC Customer Dont Care hotline for your country, and see if they are a little bit more helpful when it comes to this problem, than HTC Turkey have been with me !
(2 months and still waiting for an address to send my HTC Diamond for warranty repair)....
For those of you wondering what symptoms, and what I have tried to fix the problem... Read On.....
To flash your phone to its original ROM, try cooling the phone down (Place it in the fridge for 10 minutes or so, then attempt to reflash)....
It took me 15 attempts before I got it to flash 100% (The thing would warm up, then crash)...
Please note : reflashing the ROM did nothing to fix my phone.
---------------
Here is one of the emails that I sent to HTC Australia Support (HTC Australia was very very helpful, and I sincerely thank them for trying to help me out)...
Hi Amr, (HTC Australia)
Thankyou for your advice in regards to the HTC Diamond Phone.
Ill try and describe the symptoms a bit better so as you may have more of an idea about the problem that I am experiencing.
At the moment, if I do a memory clear, at room temperature, (25*C) the phone will display the following
1) The Touch Diamond Boot Screen
Roughly 30 seconds later....
2) The Green Windows Mobile Preparing your device for first use. Screen
This screen will be displayed for about 45 seconds... At this point the device will do either of the following
a) It will reset, vibrate, and then show the Touch Diamond Boot Screen Again, though sometimes the screen is garbled (Has lines and/or a snow effect through it)
or
b) The device will hang, typically with the screen being garbled much like above.
When the device hangs, all the buttons (Except the reset button) no longer function.
Resetting the device using the reset button will reboot the device fine, but at this point it will always hang when the boot screen is displayed.
Removing the battery, waiting for say 30 seconds, then replacing the battery and trying again results in the device still hanging at the boot screen.
At this point, the temperature is not hot... I would honestly say the temperature is only 5*C more than room temperature.
Before I had this problem, the phone would get much hotter than this, but It never got to a temperature that I would call extremely hot....
The only reason why I "Think" it might be temperature related is that If I leave the device to cool down to room temperature, then I can repeat the steps above,
without the phone hanging at the boot screen...
Also, If I have the phone next to a fan, with the back off, I can usually get the phone to boot up, and I can calibrate the touch screen,
and the phone will proceed to customise itself.
To be honest though, it doesnt usually complete this last step successfully, and will hang during this proccess....
I havent been able to get the phone to the point where the phone has displayed the touchflo interface for over a week now, however the windows OS functions ok until the device hangs.
This is what I have tried so far...
A Clear Memory, as well as a clear memory and format using the Start->Settings->System-> Clear Software Function...
I have also tried to clear Memory, and Format moviNAND using the Volume Down, Enter, Reset - then Volume Down Method
Using these methods, the phone will clear its memory successfully, it will then reboot, and depending on how long the phone has been on for,
it may, or may not progress past the Touch Diamond Boot Screen...
Because I cannot get the phone to reliably boot up, I cannot establish an Active-sync connection, So I have not been able to try the ROM Upgrade Yet.
If the phone is faulty due to user negligence (I.E. There is something I am doing wrong software wise), then I will be more than happy to pay to get the problem rectified,
however, I can honestly say that I am stumped as to what could be causing this problem, let alone how to fix it....
The phone is in immaculate condition, is only 2 months, 2 weeks old now, has always been protected by a leather pouch, and also has a screen protector on it.
Understandably, the phone has been babied since I bought it new, and I am somewhat stressed at the prospect of it failing so early in its life cycle.
The Phones Serial Number is HT82GN55656
The phone was bought from a company in Hong Kong.
I contacted the company that sold me the phone and they had this to say
As the items were originally distributed abroad, therefore it does not come with the Australian warranty. However, sometimes the local service centre may still provide official warranty service if you provide them with our company invoice. In cases where, the local service center refuses to warranty the item, you may send the item back to the overseas supplier for a warranty service (12 months).
To be honest, this company has been less than helpful with any inquiries in regards to warranty.
If you could let me know how I should / could proceed with getting the phone repaired under warranty, I would greatly appreciate it !
Thank you again for your help in this matter
Kind Regards
Matti Jones
As I pointed out before, I stuck the phone in a fridge (Powered Down, no battery) for 15 minutes, which chilled the phone well below room temperature...
I then flashed the phone successfully with the latest Official HTC ROM.
(The flash process would take awhile around the 13% mark, but would progress smoothly after this point)...
I then chilled the phone again, and was able to calibrate the screen, and the phone was able to do its customization stuff that it does after the initial calibration and setup...
Finally, I chilled the phone again, and was able to boot it up into the touch flo interface, and open programs (However I couldnt test the phone function, because of the amount of time required to SIM unlock, and power up the phone functions).....
----------------------------------------
Honestly, I am not impressed....
HTC Australia didnt confirm it, but it sounds like a few of these phone have this fault, but they cannot trace it back to a root cause.
The phone worked brilliantly for the first 2 months that I had it.
It just got worse and worse over a period of 2 days, to the point where I cannot use it unless I place it in a fridge for 15 minutes to power it up
i didn't know anybody else had the same exact symptoms. Everything you just stated matches exactly what has been going on with my phone. However, I have already sent it in to the Taiwan company from which i bought the phone. And i did not reflash the spl or ROM, so there is a very very very very near 100% chance that they will void the warranty...unless my dad can smooth talk them out of that =]. But as soon as i get any sort of news back, i will let you know. Perhaps because it isn't a software issue, it might not void the hardware part of the warranty (unless they're assholes).
Same Problem
Same problem with my diamond, I have sent it to Service center, and its 50 days now I have not got my phone back. They have not even done anything, they are waiting for some part to be replaced, which was not available there.
Lets hope it comes back with everything working fine.
Total 3 problems with my HTC touch diamond -
1. Freezing, finally not booting
2. Wifi did not work, this problem started with in a week I got my mobile\
3. Sound problem, when I am talking on phone, other person gets very little voice there.
It seems HTC is using cheap h/w parts, I don't think next time ever I am going to buy any mobile from HTC. Two mobiles I purchase from HTC, both of them were very bad in hardware quality.
Pissed at HTC Now
You think that's Bad !!!!!!
70 Days so far just trying to get HTC to tell me where the F*** I should send my phone for warranty repairs !!!!!!
Contact Warranty Service in Australia, they tell me to send it to the place of purchase (Hong Kong)...
I contact the place of purchase, and they tell me to go through HTC global warranty.....
Ok... I think to myself....
I contact Australia Tech Support (The ONLY helpful person I have spoken to from HTC), and exchange 10 or so emails, to discover that I must contact HTC Turkey for my warranty issue....
Deep breath from me now.....
I contact HTC Turkey, they reply asking for the Serial Number and symptoms.
I send them a copy of the 10 or so emails with HTC Australia, and receive no reply !
I send a couple of emails to the helpful HTC Australian tech support guy, politely asking if the issue could be escalated to upper management....
I get a reply saying HTC was trying to contact me on my mobile number (Yep, the mobile number which is my FAULTY Diamond Phone)...
Another week passes, and finally I start cracking the SH!TS with the helpful HTC Aus Guy...
Same Day, I get an email from HTC Global Warranty....
The Message, I must contact HTC Turkey for Warranty Repairs....
For [email protected]#$s sake.... Is HTC Global Warranty Service run by a bunch of [email protected]#$%wits ????????
So now I'm on Week 7 trying to contact HTC Turkey (Looks like another long winded, pointless and mind numbing international phone call again !)
I would be so p!$$ed but the phone only worked for 5 weeks before crapping out...
Short of going on a murderous rampage at HTC in Turkey, I have NFI what I should do next !!!!!!!!
HTC, if you are reading this, You can shove this Diamond up your @$$ !!!
Chill
Yep you are having a bad service.
If you can't use your phone that means it's not fit for the purpose for which it's been sold Do you have the equivalent of what we get in the UK your statutory consumer rights?
Consumer complaints comission or something similar?

I have a Touch Pro and fortunately I have had no such issues regarding the low temperatures you need to get it to boot up. Where did you actually purchase your phone? Did you get it through Vodafone or did you purchase it through a website or through overseas travel and as such not associated with Vodafone? I steer away from the latter as there is always the possibility of having to ship a phone overseas for warranty purposes. I had a TyTn II before this and when the touch screen failed and even (and this problem is not normally covered in warranty) the chrome interface peeling off I have had nothing but good experiences with HTC. I contacted them straight away though mentioning that I am a user of mobile phones for over 20 years and that I am very influential to many people including businesses who are looking for reliable good phones for which I would recommend them to purchase. This is all true and I must admit HTC were very efficient in getting the work required done as a top priority at the HTC repair centre PHONETEC in Nunawading, Victoria. That is where the work gets done to Australian spec HTC Phones which include Diamond and Pro.
I am sorry you aren't getting the results you are wanting but unfortunately there are differences in a few areas between phones shipped to Australia and phones shipped to other overseas markets and one reason I would expect this is because of the different climates ( some much colder than here in Aus) and I can see that there would be issues if you bought a phone that would normally be destined for a colder climate than one for Australia where temperatures can reach well into the 40's in some places including Melbourne (don't hear to much about 40's in Sydney haha Just had to include some weather interstate rivalry).
Anyway I wish you all the best getting it fixed. If you did not purchase through Vodafone or any of the other Australian telco providers I would hope that next time you would because their phones are fixed here when any problems occur and lets face it most things with technology in it do at some time and these phones being pocket PC's are more likely to have issues than a standard phone due to the complexity of our devices compared to your standard phones.
John
P.S if you want quick action another thing that doesnt hurt is to get threatening with the old consumer affairs drivel and media drivel if a satisfactory response is not recieved within 10 business days.
HTC is not to blame!
Ok, here´s the wise-a*# answer:
Now why did you buy your phone outside from the country you live in?
I quess because it was cheaper. You basically bought the pda on the grey market which is disliked by the manufacturer due to different reasaons. E.g. the differente warranties that have to be given according to the different laws of different countries. Sometimes the hardware and/or software packages differs from country to country. Also the wages for the support center employees differ, taxes differ and the rent for buildings or shop space differ between different countries. Those costs are included in any product sold worldwide and that´s why the pda costs less e.g. in Turkey. A global support usually only gives you advice on who the correct contact is, you can speak to.
So why should the HTC dependence in your country, which was absolutely not involved in your acquisition, do something for you? Because you tried to beat the system and save yourself some money?
The deal is to pay a bit more in a local store and get a fast and proper support or to buy it via internet on the other side of the world and spare some money.
If your device fails you have to return it to the destination, the device was primarly delivered to,in this case by HTC to Turkey. In Turkey the mindset is a compelete different, their language, their workings speed ...
Also taking legal action in foreign countries is quite difficult.
So in this case unfortunately you have to pay for saving.
I really don´t think that htc is to blame here and its shown why many people don´t import technical gadgets by themselfes.
Still hope things will work out for you.
bye,
Thilo
HTC is HTC anywhere in the world.
The only problem with taking to your local reseller for quaranty reasons is that he can't use any other WM version after the repair , other than that of the original device. So if it is a turkish rom and your phone is defective , even if they replace the board , you will still end up with a turkish rom and a board shipped from turkey.
INTERNATIONAL WWE guaranty , means just that!!!
Has anyone had issues with the front {Vidcall} cam? Mine will not work, & I Have looked everywhere for any reference to this issue. I have even searched the registry for a key to activate/deactivate the cam, but it appears that they are all set to active {& the other settings appear good}. The device reccognizes that it has a 2nd cam, the program switches modes, but the cam itself will not activate. I'm assuming that the cam itself is defective. If I activate the error reporting it claims a prob with Device.exe.
I have also searched high & low for a replacement Cam; to no avail. There are plenty of daughter boards, but no cam modules.
I have been working on a bare-bones ROM, but would like my Diam to be fully functional to test every aspect of the ROM before releasing it to the community. Anyone have a Broken Diam {GSM} that they would sell me cheap? {I'm crippled & don't have much $$.}
BTW: The error exists with the factory ROM as well, so don't start blaming my ROM for this {I already thought of that one, & wish it was my mistake}
I know one of the first things that I will hear is "Send it in for warrranty"; So I'll tell you now why that probably won't work.
1} I bought this Diam 2nd hand So; No receipt
2} This is the UK version & I live in US
3} It's Hard SPL'd {Thanx Olipro -- 1.40.Olinex }
4} The LDI under the lanyard hook is activated. As well, the battery's LDI is also half-activated.
The device has never been wet! I bought it from a 45 year old business man that lives in Ocean City, MD, & I assume the humidity levels activated it. {& don't feed me the BS that this is impossible! I watched an LDI in a brand new phone change from white to red after being in a fat sweaty guy's pocket for just half an hour.}
I am going to try talking to HTC service on Monday, but don't plan to get too far with it.
[Update 09-08-09}
I called HTC yesterday. Didn't get me anywhere! The number listed @ HTC.com as the Warranty Center {866-449-8358}, connected me to the tech support team. Guy was a total waste of time. For the 30 minutes that I was on the phone, I listened to about 10-15 mins of silence. {Not on Hold, Human answered immediately} At one point I even had to ask, "Are you still there?". Either the jacka$$ was pissed for having to work a holiday, or he is just the dumbest support tech I've ever talked to. He just kept repeating; "I know how you feel. It can be frustrating..." This rolled out of his mouth at least 5 times. Most of the time he just said nothing. The only plausible suggestion that he gave the whole time was; "Try downloading & flashing to the latest ROM version". Been there, Done that, Burned the shirt.
Every tech support office should have two #s;
1st # is for 90% of the people they talk to. {i.e. "How do I... change the ringtone; setup my email; make a call; wipe my a$$?}
2nd # is for the rest of us that actually need a tech that can provide support.
He listed a couple possible solutions to try, but they were all things I'd already done. I even told him about 2 or 3 solution I tried that he didn't think of. So, after listening to him breathe for about 5 minutes, he finally tells me I should call the "Warranty Repair Ctr". What Tha Fu... ?!?!? That's who I called; according to HTC's website! So, I tell him this & he says he'll give me the right #. Well, after about 3 more minutes of silence, I ask again "Still there". He says; "Yeah, you want that number or not?" Seriously?!? Are you a F&@^ing retard?!?
I will be calling "Warranty Service" {I hope} again today. Hopefully I get someone a lil' better then that jerkoff.
Hi guys.
I'll get to the point and say that I got this phone towards the middle of July to replace my failing Optimus G and it's already having a multitude of issues.
The phone worked great through heavy usage on a week period at the beginning of the month while I was travelling. Two days ago the right side of the screen began to freeze, either showing colored static or what was previously loaded. I note that the screen still works fine even inside of a different app, pressing buttons, etc. but continues to freeze and load what is actually going on a moment later. Happens on both the recovery mode screen as well as the lock screen.
Now, the phone also began to have crashing issues some time last week. I was playing Fallout Shelter when the device suddenly crashed. This hadn't happened with Fallout Shelter or any other (heavier) games at all since getting the phone. I rebooted and later was playing WWE Immortals when the phone crashed when going through the logo and copyright screens. After this crash, however, the phone went from around 50% battery to 0% and needed a charge.
I thought this was a fluke last week until it did it again yesterday... multiple times.
Last night the WWE Immortals crash happened again but the phone remained at 100%, where it was since it had been charging, instead of dropping to 0%. It powered on after popping the battery and pressing the button. Later on in the night, I was checking my email when the phone crashed out of nowhere. I once again popped the battery and it booted. However, this time, it would not load past the Sprint screens after the LG/Powered by Android one. It just hanged on the Sprint logo. It sat there for ten minutes until I took the battery out. I tried again and it wouldn't get past the LG screen.
I attempted Recovery Mode, which works of course, and cleared the cache and rebooted the phone. Once again, it crashed on the LG screen. I gave up for the night and tried again today. Same thing happened a few more times until the phone finally booted. I get in and try uninstalling apps to clear space to bring the phone to 11 of 32 GB free. I go to check what other "misc." data is eating up storage when the phone crashes again and I haven't successfully gotten it to boot again.
Should I attempt a factory reset? The closest Sprint store is miles away (I live in downtown Indianapolis and there isn't one nearby without taking a long walk or bike ride or bounce across bus lines, whatever) and the last time I got help from was just a new phone (replaced a phone because it's screen was broken, yeah, right. I went somewhere else to get a replacement the second time it happened). I feel like this a big hardware issue a reset wouldn't fix but, who knows.
I guess I should also note that, within the past week, my camera apps (be it the stock camera app or Snapchat) crash when using the front camera and it never loads a preview before crashing and the phone has been oddly hot (be it when I was cleaning up apps, idle, or just when attempting to boot) the last day. Also, as I was typing, I've been attempting restarts and cache clears and Recovery Mode, during one of the tries, never even loaded the options and a power button press restarted the device.
...At this point I'm just curious what exactly could mess with a phone this much. I refuse to believe it's any kind of virus since nothing was ever picked up and I know my way around the internet. I like LG phones, I loved my last one (other than it didn't have an SD card slot, but, eh, cloud storage!) and I like the cameras.
Phone is an LS991, unrooted.
From what I have been gathering(and this is all hearsay!) is that the first batch of these phones have serious hardware problems that might be related to the CPU. The best option would to try and get LG to replace the phone as they are less likely to have a phone in stock still that was part of the bad batch. If you can't get them to do it then try a Sprint repair store and see if they will swap it out. Be clear that this a warranty issue and not issuance issue. As a last resort you have to claim insurance on it.

Well, that's somewhat depressing to figure out that they messed up part of the batch but that always happens if it's true.
Guess I'll have to check with LG or get someone to drag me to Sprint to see what they say. I'm not one for getting insurance on tech (and given I got the phone for cheap, being due for the upgrade and all) but hopefully warranty can help me out. Thanks for the heads up!

Spoke with LG last night and the customer service rep was pretty clear that LG does not replace phones they only "fix" them. I would not trust LG to give you a new phone at this point as they will most likely just re-flash the phone and send it back to you. Unless anyone else who has dealt with LG repair in the past can say otherwise I wouldn't go the LG route. Now, if someone bricked their phone that might be a good thing to try since Sprint repair can't flash phones but if you need a new phone it looks like Sprint is the way to go. Just make sure you are clear that this is a warranty issue and not insurance. I bought my phone at Best Buy so this will be interesting for me as they probably will want nothing to do with me since I don't have TEP. I will report back on if they give me the shaft or not because I am sure others might be in the same situation as me.

Late reply is late, whoops.
That's interesting. Never really intended on the LG route since I've never had issues with Sprint replacing a device in the past so I'd go to them before anyone else (which we are, when my mom comes down to help me out with this since the closest store is just too far away and it's her cell plan).
And man, I wouldn't be able to stand buying from BestBuy but that's my personal qualms with them, hah. Hope you had good luck with them.
Hi. We have c got the same phone. Got 4 of them and 3 working great but my husband's is doing the exact same thing as yours and like you we have no insurance and had same reply from lg. And best buy was no help at all. Wondering if you figured out how to fix it or not
Forgot to mention we are verizon not Sprint. Not sure if that matters.
Just got my G4 replaced with a brand new one at Sprint. I have TEP, and they said they'd normally order a refurbished one. But, I got lucky since there are no refurbished ones (they're on backorder, probably due to these issues), so they just gave me a new one.
Lets hope this one one wasn't a lemon like the first one...fingers crossed because I love this phone...
We called verizon and they are over nighting a new phone. Thank you for the reply tho
This happened to me as well. It crashed maybe twice a day and now I can't get it on because it is crashing 1000 times. Its stuck in a crashing loop. Sprint is giving me a completely different g4 when their next batch comes in. It has been 2 weeks and I still don't have a new phone. I am hoping that I don't get this problem again or I am getting an iphone 6.
