standard mode or turbo mode
Standard is Stable
I've come to notice that the standard mode is much more stable or actualyl is perfectly stable than the turbo mode. even the keyboard manages to get messed up when in turbo mode. When u switch from standard keyboard layout to the phonepad keyboard it gets locked up. just like it'd be using too much memmory or smth, which shouldnt actually b a problem in my oppinion.
Anyways, mayb i'm just the only one w this problem and the turbo mode is actually stable, but from what i've noticed its crap, even cpuXscalar or whatever its called crashes my system when i use it. so so much for tweaking my proc
any suggestions perhaps?
It is good idea to keem 50Mb of ram free to achieve best performance.
My Alpine is stable even on 624Mhz. But i prefer 412.
624mhz? is it all alpine can go up to 624mhz or you had did some thing on your alpine?
Just turned it to Turbo mode and installed XCPUScalar program. There will be 624Mhz.
wooah, hold on a second there. 50Mb's o ram? thats normal i think.i mean, let me ask u this then, where do u adjust the free ram?thats whats in the memory setting tab right? or thats just the storage/program ratio...hm...
scalar kept locking up w me 4sm reason.u hv the new version or old one?mayb that'll b a difference. the new one kept locking up my ppc with it:/right after setup.n if i did get it to start up then as soon as i did smth it'd lock up:/
Hah, I regularly run my device with only 8mb of free RAM, and it works fine I only use Turbo mode for when I'm running TomTom though, it seems to just help it draw the 3D maps a little faster than in regular mode (which would figure, as it's clocking the CPU up faster, which in turn is clocking everything else to a faster datarate... So yeah.)
Turbo mode just eats up battery life though, and I'm properly fed up with having to plug it in every night to charge already.

The golden rule of a PDA is to get it charged when ever an opportunity happens - mine sits in it's cradle for half a day (while at work). It's also plugged in whilst in the car.
Aye, I always have mine on charge whenever I'm home / in the car, it just takes the piss a bit that the battery life is as short as it is, but I guess that's the price we pay for being on the bleeding edge of mobile tech
With my 4500mA battery - no problem running even 624Mhz during all day.
But I prefer 412 or 520 - sometimes I need to stay without charger during two days...
i change the speed with xcpuscalar. I move from 2xx Mhz to 624 Mhz
Hi Guys
i've heard that you can turn off the gps which would imply its permantley on, is this true? If so, any one know how to turn it off as I can't find what is probably an obvious menu/option.
I need to turn it off as i am only getting six hours of idle on any charge of my phone - have an extended batt on order and it is using push email (constantly connected) which is a must for me.
No real complaints apart from battery (which was expected and being sorted) and seems pretty good so far.
Oh, anyone else ditch touchflo? Thought it was rubbish myself
If GPS was able to be turned off, how much battery might it save? The difference could be transforming!
I personally don't think that GPS would be permanently turned on.
Maybe the interface, which "looks" if a demand on GPS data exists...
IF the GPS would be permanently turned on, the battery drain would
be very high, and the device would get assumingly very hot.
mine eats battery more than a fat bird eats bugers and mcdonalds and yes, its very hot as well .. although, this could be coz its pretty much always plugged in.... ?
GPS is only 'on' when it is called for by any external program. If it were on all the time the phone would be flat in about two hours regardless what you did with it.

do you KNOW that or are you assuming that?
I know I have seen programs that turn it off just as usual, the search on here has let me down. If this was definetly the case, then why would programs like these be written?

Yes, it is a known fact that the Diamond heats up when you are charging it (to levels some may find concerning) but HTC have dismissed this as 'normal operation'.
If it was on all the time you would have an instant fix on where you are straight away .
If it was on all the time your battery would last as said around two hours
I think it is in standby mode if this is what you mean but does need software activation to enable it on as in transmit and receive .
Not sure if turning off standby mode would be a good idea but if you google for the chipset name and have a read up it will let you know these kind of things
Are you sure you guys are not getting confused with GPRS, not GPS?
That can drain battery life, and by disabling GPRS Auto Attach using Advance Config tool, can extend your battery by around 40%!

Hi,
While I'm waiting for my spare battery to arrive, I thought I'd check and see how useful it's going to be...
Is it possible to swap batteries without having the device 'hard reset', or can I quickly swap when I need to without having to reinstall and setup all my stuff?
Thanks.
Swapping the battery is like soft resetting.
Power off - power on
I don't think anything is lost. You just reboot the phone.
This will never be possible. You have to keep up your power supply during the battery swap. This is only possible with a large capacitor. And only for this use you will never see this built in a mobile handset due to the extra cost, weight and needed space.
While taking out the battery the device will only power off. After replacing the battery you can normally switch on your device, this is like a soft reset! DonĀ“t worry about lost programs and so on.
That's what I wanted to hear - I don't mind a quick power-down to swap, I just didn't want to then have to re-sync with the computer to get all the settings back.
I suspected the \internal storage was flash-based so would survive a battery swap, I just wasn't sure about the main memory - my old XDA would lose everything when the battery was low.
Thanks all!
I don`t know what happens if you swap the batteries when the device is on external power - maybe that works.

Windows Mobile does not lose the data on power-loss since version 5. Devices up to WM2003SE held data in Ram and lost all settings and data when the battery was empty.
Some devices had a small auxilliary battery which held the data when the battery was empty.
Have fun!
Well, here's an odd question.
I really want to drain my battery, preferably quite fast. At the moment I've got it on full brightness, no screen timeout, running a particle simulator, but it's dropping quite slowly. I want my battery to feel the burn! Are there any apps that people would suggest to absolutely kill my battery?
I'm actually considering writing an app that kills CPU, accesses the net, attempts to connect to GPS etc etc... Could make my life easier.
Soo simple just connect to ur wifi or 2g network i will drain automatically

Nope, I'm talking heavy duty, 20% per half hour drain.
load maps in the background..turn gps data wifi..livewallpaper..play music while playing games.. wala! battery drain so fast..
Just turn everything on and play with mmorpg like pocket legend with 3G connection. I think you Will drain from full to empty in about 2 hours

Hmm.... While most of these are good solutions, they all require active use of the phone. Anything that I can set and forget?
set the phone to 'never sleep' under settings.
the like said above, leave as many apps running, music, play a 720p video,
Leave camcorder running, gps on, wifi, everything you can imagine,
then leave it, If the phone wont sleep, the apps should stay running, unless RAM gets low

Ah yes, overclocking, thanks for that tip.
And perhaps I should find a nice resistor to do that...

Hey, this is EXACTLY what I was looking for, thanks! In fact, I may also go ahead and overclock now I have this.
You could also try downloading something with 3G in the background when running Stability test.
Turn on wifi/bluetooth/gps and download a large file too

Stock JVR with Semaphore 1.6.0bm
I dunno whether it is a battery problem or what but I got a brand new battery
coz the last battery was too bad but the new battery also sucks.
I was wondering if it was cause of the ROM and kernel so
I switched to stock rom for trial purpose and still I got juz like barely 7 hours of juice....
with juz some files thru bluetooth and half an hour or so of texting....
so what could be causing the problem?
Here's the battery stats...

I'm not really an expert on this... but I'll try!
First, data - depending on how often your apps that use data refresh, it may be killing your battery because they are always updating in the background
Next, apps - depending on how many are open, and trying to retrieve info or a responce, this may be killing your battery life
Another, backlight brightness - I would say half brightness looks almost the same as full brightness, so turn that down too. Another thing you can do is make sure that your phone times out so the screen is always on and sucking the life out of your battery
Plus, bluetooth and wifi - turn those off when you aren't using them! They turn on in a couple of seconds so there is no use in just leaving them on and draining your battery.
Lastly, I dunno what "kik" is (the app running in the corner of the status bar) but it may be using battery too (probably not because it isn't in the list of the battery use so I don't think that's it.
Anyways, in short, possibly shut off the data if you don't always use it (you don't have to tho ), go into the settings of apps, and get the refresh rate at a longer period of time (so they aren't always using data), kill any open apps if you can with an app manager, turn down the brightness of backlight, change the time it takes to shut off the backlight, and shut off the bluetooth and wifi when you aren't using it.
Unfortunatley the battery life on the Ace is far from the best, if anything it's terrible, but other than that I have very few issues with the phone.
Well... That's my two cents. Hopefully it helps, but if not, search around on the forums and see if you can find any other solutions. :fingers-crossed: I'm not the expert, but I'm trying to throw ideas out there. Good luck
Running background processes is a major battery kill. I used to get 12h+ on 3G with Stocklite V6. Never used heavy apps though. Just Textplus, Opera Mini to check fb sometimes and WhatsApp whenever someone talked to me. Light usage.
How much the battery lasts depends on the user completely.

First of all thnx for taking this much time out....
It's rlly helpful...
but
1. My data usage is barely 10 mb per day....
and no wifi and mearge usage of bluetooth....
2. Background apps;
only adw and one or two others...
and Kik is juz like whatsapp, a messaging app....
and it's quite lightweight, been using it since uite some time...
3. Backlight is at an always 25% and screen timeout 30 secs....
so juz wanna know if there's a possibility of some hardware fault......
coz I've tried most things possible to take out the software fault if any....

Wait, i just forgot!...
I get this too sometimes, but what might help is if you reset your battery stats! I have to do this too because I found that after a half an hour after unplugging my phone with no use I lost 10% battery life, for no apparant reason. Search in the Play Store "BatteryCalibration". All you have to do is charge your phone to 100%, and tap the button . You usually have to do this after flashing a new ROM, because you might not flash it at 100% battery life and the stats go from there. So I would say, try it and see what happens.
Now... If not... The only other suggestion I have is if you find a battery booster app such as "Juice Defender" from the Play Store. I tried using it, but didn't see a huge difference (I don't have data, so I just keep it off), probably because I barely use my phone. I've also heard some thing about a script called "v6 Super Charger" (I've only heard of it, please search it if you want to know more because I sure don't ). Aparantly it boosts battery as well, but no promises haha.
If you are really desperate for better battery life, I would say switch to 2g service in the settings. Other than that.... I'm out for now
Hopefully this might help you out as well, but other than that the Ace is not well known for a good battery. But that's a mid range phone for you (but the Ace ain't no slouch either)
Anyway, goodluck!

Ok, so after looking around a little, I found a very interesting thread about Lithium-Ion batteries! Really cool and really worth the read! I learned quite a bit. Hopefully this answers any additional questions that I wasn't able to answer!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=669497
Try also eliminating any widgets or live wallpapers that you may have running. These might keep the processor running at a higher speed then neccessary, but no promises.... Plus I already mentioned closing apps you don't need (so this is pretty much the same woops) and you might have done it already.
The biggest thing to remeber is that you have to sacrifice performance for the best battery life. This may go as far as underclocking your maximum CPU speed, but this might cause some lagging especially at the startup. I think that this should be a last resort to be honest, because you still want to use a phone, and not a laggy device that you are trying to conserve as much battery as possible.
I also heard something about the motherboard possibly having a hardware fault in it causing excess discharge... But... I will need to do a little more searching to see if I can figure this out for you!
The other possiblity is that you get a power bank... But that just adds to what you have to pack around, so this is probably another last resort, but it's all up to you.
