For all of you AT&T users that are using Cooked ROMs based off of HTC builds, I created some cabs to get AGPS working with the AT&T SUPL Servers. You need to pick the correct cab for whatever data plan you are using and your phone is set to. I for instance use AT&T ISP and the isp.cingular APN. This is the Business class tethering data plan. Most of you will be using the MediaNet and wap.cingular APN.
These cabs will:
install the SuplRootCert for AT&T into the \Windows dir
Set the HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS registry entries for AT&T
Set the HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\AGPSNVSetting to 1
Aside from these settings, the Cooked ROMs will need to have the QuickGPS and RESProxy services loading on startup. (Most ROMs will have this, but you may need to check). Cooked ROMs will also need a recent rilphone.dll as well as gps*.dll from OEMDrivers. Most Cooked ROMs will have all of these things, but if not you'll be able to ask the Chefs in their thread about them if you are having issues getting AGPS to work.
How to use these cabs:
Install the cab
soft-reset
Load up HTCGPSTool.exe
Set Mode to Cold Start
Set Log NMEA (default is \My Documents)
Open Port
This will start the HTC GPS Tool and try to use AGPS
Exit the HTCGPSTool and check the log file in \My Documents for the $GPSCELL line
If $GPSCELL is not there, you may need to soft-reset once more and perform the HTCGPSTool process again. (This has been the case for me for all cooked ROMs.)
For some reason 2x soft resets is required. Maybe because of proper auth/cert process to the AT&T servers. In any case, after the second soft-reset, the AGPS works great and I am getting a lock in under 30 seconds.
Thanks to Da_G for explaining this all to me.

Thanks a lot for this, it'll be good to have a fast locking GPS again. Now I just need to figure out how to port the AT&T phone canvas over and I will have a great rom.
hey eras2r. I have a question please. I see your using 4.48.25.20. is there any particular reason/benefit to this on At&t? (search shows up that its a topaz radio)
I ask because I'm trying to get my ATT TP2 GPS problems resolved.
I flashed a couple of roms before i realized that I never get any bars in GPStest. The last two roms i've tried have been your 2.1 rom and then your stock image you created (from 4 dump files?). Currently, i have the stock Rom, the 4.49.25.17 radio and no GPS.
So... I was then going to try flashing 4.47.25.24 (ATT), but i see you are using something different also, and you seem to know quite a bit about the GPS on the tilt2, so i thought i would ask about your radio and if you have any suggestions.
I've been reading that I may have the wrong version of rilphone.dll (or gps*.dll?), but i'm not sure how to check the version, whether they get replaced when you flash the radio and if not, where to get them.
I've done quite a few rhodium gps searches and am currently feeling pretty moronic...

beejers,
The radio is not really going to matter all that much. On AT&T what matters is QuickGPS, ResourceProxy, Suplrootcert, *.gps.dll and correct registry settings. This will give you AGPS functionality. That means that your phone will first get a general location from the Cell Towers, and then try to lock GPS. When using AGPS correctly you should get a lock in ~30seconds. Most 6.5 ROMs will have everything you need except the Suplrootcert and registry settings, which come out of the AT&T ROM.
In my ROM I am using the rilphone.dll from AT&T that matches the 4.48.25.20 radio. But really, any of the 4.4X radios along with a recent rilphone.dll will work. You seem to be using GPSTest. I recommend using HTC GPS Tool instead. You want to set the mode to "Cold Start" and log that datastream. When you do this you should get a lock rather quickly. To verify that AGPS is working, you need to look at the log file and look for the $GPSCELL entry. If this entry exists, then AGPS is working correctly. As I stated above, since the cab above adds the "EnableCertAuth" parameter to the registry, you may need to try a "Cold Start" in HTC GPS Tool, and then soft reset. That registry entry will disappear after that, and you should be able to get location data from the AT&T towers.
Hope that helps,

thanks for the tips. On your 2.1 rom, i played with HTC GPS tool a bit, but wasn't exactly sure at that time what i should be looking for. every bit of clarification helps. thx again

Any of you 8125 owners who installed the imate 2.16.9.101 release have any new feedback on how it's going? Are there still issues with the connection icons or wifi connectivity?
I'm eager to get push mail working and have not been able to get a straight answer from a dozen different folks at Cingular on when their release will come out...so I might give the imate release a shot.
What about going back to the shipping Cingular version after installing the imate update - is it easy/possible? Any problems with extended ROM?
thx
I never even used the phone with the original cingular firmware, I went directly to the Q-tek Test rom. From that rom to this rom, the radios seem a little better (getting better signal, edge seems slightly faster, wifi picks up network much faster) and for some reason the whole feel is "snappier" seems like the menus and such load faster. I haven't had any stability issues, and push is working perfect.
I dont' know about the much faster part, but mine is very stable since i removed battery pack pro. I have SPB's power plus as well as their weather software.
if there are any software you want tested just let me know. Well if I can atleast run it without having to buy it, (i.e. Demos, etc.)
Bluetooth, Wifi, Edge, and signal are all real good. (signal on par with 1.12 radio as well as faster to get a signal than it was)
Battery icon is NOT on the bottom and does NOT show more than 2 bars ( so you have full, somewhere in between, and low).
Battery life seems pretty good, but I can't compare it to any other version as I had the phone 36 hours before I upgraded it to this version.
Great thanks for the feedback yall. So once I do the upgrade, how hard will it be to go back to the shipped version if I ever need to? I have everything backed up using awizard, but I understand there could be problems trying to go to a previous version. I think downgrading via the bootloader mode requires executable rom images, but there isn't one available for the shipping version.
You can still downgrade to an old imate ROM and then use aWizard to restore your cingular ROM.
I have installed it on my Qtek 9100.
I hanged 5 times in 2 days.
What is more annoying is when it hangs and
someone tries to call me at the same time, the
other party hears my phone ringing, but my
Qtek is dead silent.

Is your wifi working OK? If so, did you install any of the cingular exrom customizations?
Just curious, because I installed the released imate rom and everything is working like a champ except wifi. I installed some of the original customizations from the cingular exrom and I wonder if one of those cabs did something to the wifi config...
What kind of porblems are you having with the wifi?

It won't turn on.. =)
I thought perhaps it was one of the cingular customization cabs I installed from the original exrom, but now I'm not so sure. I looked at all the cabs and the only one that relates to wifi is the cab that sets the key to enable talking to 802.11g APs.
In comm manager, if I click the wifi icon, it appears to attempt to start wifi, but then goes back to an "x" over the wifi button. The wifi radio doesn't start and the left LED that blinks when wifi is on does not come on.
I wish there were some logs to look at on this thing to see why it's failing to start wifi..
Solved the wifi problem. It appears to be related to something in one of the original 8125 exrom cabs. I reinstalled the new imate rom, skipped the imate exrom install, and only installed a couple cabs from the 8125 exrom. The cabs I installed that did not affect wifi were the mms config, the gprs account config, and the edge icon.
All is now well. If I had the time and patience I'd tear apart the original 8125 cabs to see which one might cause wifi probs, but at this point it's not necessary.
I'll stick with it as-is now until cingular releases their own update...assuming that happens before the hermes is out.. =)
I have a Dopod 838 (identical to 8125, I suppose). The new ROM has worked awesome for me. Better in every way. Even the infamous Activesyn problem went away
I am getting ready to take the plunge...just in case...
does anyone have the original 8125 ROM?
I use SPB backup can restore a backup after I upgrade?
I installed this rom on my 9100, and it is much better than it was with any of the other roms including the original shipped rom!
The radio is much clearer and the wifi hooks up faster and runs better, and I have had absolutely NO lock ups at all.
Later
I am thinking of installing it on an 8125...
Without a backup 'known good' ROM to revert back to I am cautious

I added the extROM files one by one to see which one caused the wifi issue and it was Signed-gprsstall_128.sa.cab...so far. It was only the third one in a series of 17. I'll see what happens when I add the rest. This cab file moves a radio.dll file around.
I've installed this ROM on 2 8125's. Much better and faster than Cingular's ROM. The only thing I did was to install the Cingulcustomize_No_Emails.cab, Microsoft Voice and TRE Pocket PC registry editor and remove all traces of the Voice Command. WiFi connects to my secured access point flawlessly (though I never use WiFi) and the AKU2 push email typically has my emails coming in in about 8-10 seconds from my Exchange 2003 server. Very infrequent lockups, much less than any other ROM I've installed.
Just my two cents worth ...

I have a cingular 8125. I'm no stranger to flashing roms, I had a SX66 that was running WM5 and I reloladed it all the time. I'd like to see a step by step guide for unlocking the ext rom, flashing the radio and system roms for the 8125. Anyone know a post with that info in it?
Thanks!

Interesting you say you're no stranger to flashing ROMs but then ask for a step by step.
It's laid out quite well in several topics, but basically:
-Use awizard and enable rapi
-Use awizard and CID unlock
-Use awizard to back up Extrom, radio, splash, os
-Run the executable RUU installer for the imate
-On first boot, as soon as you get prompted to choose a carrier, do a soft reset to prevent the imate ext rom stuff from loading
-Install desired customization items from your backed up cingular ext rom. Any of them can be installed EXCPET the gprsstall cab - it will kill your wifi.
There is currently no way to unlock the ext rom in the lates imate upgrade, so you're stuck with what's in there, but you don't have to let it install.
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I've got a UK T-Mobile Vario III.
I've updated my ROM and radio a couple of times and have now discovered that my GPS isn't working. To try to fix this, I've reverted to old ROMs and radios but nothing seems to get the GPS going again. When I load up the GPS Tool and click open, no messages appear in the window at all. I seem to recall that when my GPS was working, messages would appear as soon as I clicked open, even if I was indoors and there was no chance of a signal getting through.
Radios I've tried are: 1.27.12.11 (my original radio), 1.27.12.17 and 1.27.12.32.
So it seems as if the GPS hardware is dead at the moment. Can someone suggest something that I can do to fix this?
Many thanks in advance!
I had a hiccup with the GPS lately. I installed and ran "GPSTest" and it helped sort things out for me
It may take 3-30 minutes to get a HDOP score (as mentioned in the linked post), but at least you'll know your GPS receiver is functioning properly.

Thanks for your replies. Something is definitely wrong as when I run GPS Test, it scans the com ports numerous times and then gives up and tells me the GPS is off. This is so annoying!
start gp test.start your navigation prog.go to gps settings,go to built in gps,use manual settings, use com 4, baud 4800.go outside then try.this worked for me
ive used this on tmobile and o2.both devices are now working fine with gps.
Download Franson GPSGate. It will force start the GPS. You can start & end sessions with it at will pretty much. It's also great because it allows you to use many GPS programs at once.
If you can't find it PM me & I'll upload for you. It's free to use in standard mode w/o internet tracking, server connections, etc...
I think there must be something more fundamental wrong. I've installed GPSGate and when I selected "wired or in built GPS", it is unable to find anything. It looks as if I'm going to have to get this repaired unless anyone has any other ideas...
Have you tried running uickgps to give the gps a kick start?

Yes, I've tried QuickGPS but no joy. But because GPSGate can't even detect the hardware, I think it's more of a problem than just not being able to get a fix. It's almost as if the driver or something isn't working.
You may want to check all the registry entries for the GPS. There is a link at the bottom of the Wiki that lays them out for you.
Having done hard resets and also reflashed the ROM, I don't think it can be a registry problem. Pretty sure it must be a hardware problem so it looks as if I'm going to have to get it repaired :-(
Clutching at straws here but could it be down to the fact that I flashed Schapp's WM 6.1 to the phone? I notice that a number of official 6.1 builds require a newer radio so perhaps flashing Schapps changed something else and now (even though I've gone back to 6.0) GPS will only work with one of the newer radios?
i have the same exact problem and it also started after i flashed schapps wm 6.1!!! ekhh did u find any solution?? thanks

Exactly same problem here. I flashed Schapps 6.1 ROM and the GPS is DEAD. I'm thinking about sending it in for service.
Anybody has any ideas?
the only solution i was able to find is to flash to schaps 6.1 rom. the gps now works fine. i guess once u flash to 6.1 ur gps will only work with 6.1....this should be a sticky

Strange that yours works with 6.1 as the other posts all seem to have the same problem with the GPS completely dead. Sounds as if the 6.1 flashes to a part of the ROM that the 6.0 ROMs don't flash to. Surely must be reversible, I'll post a message in the Schaps 6.1 thread. Fingers crossed...!

I don't think that this is true - I flashed several WM6.1 roms (and their radios), ending up with Sleuths, but after a while I noticed that it took considerably longer to get a GPS fix.
I returned to Duttys v4 with radio 1..27.12.32 and GPS is working fine and gets a fix as fast as before.
I don't know what the original problem was but in general I found it took longer to get a fix for all WM6.1 roms.
Dutty seems to have a 'team' of great beta testers helping him with his roms and I'm sure that one of them will notice this with his current private beta roms. If so then expect a fix soon.
its not about taking time, when i open up any of the gps programs (gps fix, etc), it doesnt even find the gps! it scans all the com ports, and when it gets to com4 the gps light comes on, but then it scans the other com ports and then tells me no gps found. if i put teh settigns on com4 it'll spend a few mins "looking for gps device" and then say gps off. by upgrading back to 6.1 it works now...
Try a other RADIO ROM
I think it has all to do with the RADIO ROM....
I used the 6.1 upgrade posted here the other day -
ROM version: 3.57.502.2 WWE
ROM date: 07/17/08
Radio version: 1.65.21.18
Protocol version: 25.88.40.05H
Everything has been working great except for GPS. I downloaded Google Maps and it worked previously with the 'Managed by Windows' option selected, but I cannot get a connection now. It just sits there with 'Seeking GPS satellites (0) ... " and does not connect. If I manually select COM4, it times out after a while and says "No GPS receive was found. yada yada yada."
I know the final official ATT rom uses a different radio version (1.65.17.10) and protocol version (25.83.40.02H). Would this effect the GPS? Should I load the official ROM instead of this one? Or can I just flash the radio?
Here with the same problem but if you try to download it from htc.com you still get RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_3.57.502.2_radio_sign_25.88.40.05_1.65.21.18_Ship could just be an old image that they have put in by error. and i used TOMTOM 7 as well and still no gps. Ill try different radios later 2 see what happens. Will post if any help
Thank you. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
I did finally get Skyfire, so I will console myself with that.
(everyone can get it this week with "Michael8" btw)
I upgraded my Tilt, and I am not having any problems using the GPS. Have you tried using the HTC GPS Tool to see if it can get access to the GPS unit?
Oops. I just noticed that you didn't install the ROM that came directly from AT&T. I used the official ROM and haven't had any problems.
It is possible that a difference in the radio could affect the use/performance of the GPS. I would still try the HTC GPS Tool first. If you haven't used it before, it will display all the satellites that your unit sees and their signal strengths.
Thanks, I'll go find that an install it. I've tried Windows Live Search, Google Maps and TrackMe, and none work so far. If I can't figure out it out by tomorrow I may just flash the 'official' ROM. I'd love to try one of the cooked ROMs, but work fries my brain enough as it is.
I use i'nav on my phone.
I had to change the com port to 4 then it worked again.
I've tried manually setting com4, but that still won't work.
I installed the HTC GPS tool, but I'm not sure what I'm looking at. When I hit 'Open' it scrolls lots of stuff, but nothing ever pops up on the Satellite tab. :/
If you have Advanced Config or Kaiser Tweak, try turning off Assisted GPS.
thank Valtamr.. tried it both ways. Assisted GPS was off by default, tried turning it on, no go, turned it back off.
well i did download the official rom

Thanks Val. I've seen SASHIMI mentioned before. Watching the YouTube vid now.
SASHIMI looks excellent. I think I've got everything setup w/it. Guess I'll try loading the ROM from HTC's website and see how it goes.
reinstalled the ROm now gps works. Try it might help you 2
Yup.. just reinstalled from the file available @ HTC.com
ROM: 3.57.502.2 WWE
date: 07/17/08
Radio: 1.65.21.18
Protocol: 25.88.40.05H
Working GPS ftw.
Ok, so here's the deal:
I have this nice HTC Himalaya (accu description label says PH10B).
I use it a lot, and I've used it in the past for calling and sms as well, no problems there. However, since I upgraded it to wm6 (or 6.1, doesn't matter), I get no network. Booting up it says nothing about no gsm, it tells me nicely what radio and protocol version I have, it just doesn't get any network. It does read the SIM, since I can read contacts and/or change/toggle the SIM password.
When I enable the Band tab on the Phone settings dialog (I use Schaps Advanced Config for this) it just says that it's 'Unable to change GSM/UMTS Band', and that I should try again later. This partially makes sense, 'cause I have no UMTS. However: when I 'visit' the Band-tab again, the GSM Band shows up empty (none of the available options is selected by default), so something sure seems to go wrong here. I'm currently using a different phone next to this device as my PDA, but I'd love it to work again...
Any thoughts?
Edit: Just so you know, I've used all radio ROMs I could find, just to eliminate that. I currently use a radio rom bundled with my own carriers latest official upgrade (I own a Dutch phone, my carrier ATM is KPN/Hi), but I'll be glad to try anything else if that'll make it work.

Ofcourse, at the moment 1.16, but I'm flashing to 1.08 again, 'cause I read somewhere that one worked best with WM6. I'm flashing without my SIM in it, as that is the way to go as well. I don't expect it to work though, 'cause like I edited in my first post, it wouldn't work before, not from 1.08 through to 1.19...
Update: that radio ROM didn't bring any change indeed, so I guess no more network for my Himalaya... Luckily enough my Touch Dual is shipping this Saturday, so I'll be out of trouble by then. Sadly enough that does mean leaving my Hima behind, but not fulltime it's been with me from WM2003 through to 6.1, and maybe, just really maybe 7 will run on it too, and I wouldn't want to miss that
Question:
Is there any way to adjust GPS settings in TE or in some other settings GUI?
In all my time of Android use on the Kaiser, only once has the GPS ever worked which was with l1q1d's .25 kernel (with module update) and Incubus26jc's build.
Google maps/latitude/navigation/places all worked fine on this build but I currently have it set up with the current Sourceforge build and Scoot's/n2rjt's cache kernel. I DO NOT want to change anything EXCEPT the GPS settings.
From what I've gathered the settings should be 9600baud, N, 8, 1.
Thanx for any help in advance...
Wait... WHAT?
IIRC, you don't have to change anything. GPS works for a long time now...
I don't know if it's the phone, something in the kernel or a module error but I never got a lock on any program that uses GPS, not GPS test, facebook, maps/latitude/navigation, or foursquare.
Like I said, it only worked once way back when we were using the .25 kernel with the update. Since then I've not gotten one GPS lock... not one.
I'm using the new cache kernel and all of the current fixes, updates. My GPS always worked with every release. It's very slow when searching for GPS signal but it's working.
I have tried with iGo but not with Google Maps. But I think it could work with Google Maps.
I have changed the Radio ROM several times so it can't be the problem.
I personally think I might have a bad GPS reciever in this phone because I can't remember it ever working.
Ill try and scavenge another one of these Kaisers from work (they were popular amongst the office workers), HardSPL it and install the build I'm using on it, just to see if it works. Ill report back later...
Sent from my Android on HTC Kaiser using XDA App
Okay, got another Kaiser and tested GPS on it before wiping/unlocking/hardspl-ing it and it worked fine. Found 5 sattelites and locked on within seconds using GPS test under winmo.
Unlock/security unlock/hardspl/kernel install/install android and update/use backup from original phone (2.2.2 with RIL and cache update) and problem followed. GPS test only found 3 sattelites at most and never locked on for the 10-15 minutes I had it up.
IMHO, I have a software comm port issue. wether it needs a different speed or a different setting in android I can't tell. I looked over initrd and can't seem to find any port settings.
I can tell you that the GPS did work with Krazy Killa's kernel, but it was highly unstable compared to the newest one from Scoot/l1q1d/n2rjt.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...
I got a idea... flash winmo and test it
As stated in post #6, the Kaiser was stock when I tested the GPS, meaning winmo 6.0 was running before flashing anything to the phone. GPS tested fine under winmo, aquiring signal and lock in about 10 seconds using GPS Test for winmo (2008 version).
Im just looking for where the actual hard settings would be in either /system or in modules added. I have done some GPS work in the past (omnitech hacking and modding, changing OS, modding settings, etc.), so I have no fear of breaking something if it doesn't work anyway.

As stated in post #6, the Kaiser was stock when I tested the GPS, meaning winmo 6.0 was running before flashing anything to the phone. GPS tested fine under winmo, aquiring signal and lock in about 10 seconds using GPS Test for winmo (2008 version).

Somewhere on the winmo settings, you'll find the GPS port, baud etc.
You can ask in ther kernel threads how this is set...
Thats what I was asking about...
Could the kernel (mtdblock0) be mounted under terminal emulator, be edited and still work, or is this a crapshoot?
I have all the settings for the "correct" GPS port number, Xbit, BPP, basically all of it.
I remeber reading somewhere that Android is looking for 38.4bps. This is not correct as the Kaiser uses 9.6bps, or 9600 bits data rate.
If this is incorrect, data from the satellite(s) will be misinterpeted and give incorrect readings. The satellites don't care what you recieve, it's how the data is handled after the phone gets it.
The way I learned all of this is by cracking a "nk.bin" file open for the Omnitech GPS back in 2008 and creating a custom bootloader that allowed use of one of 3 different GPS programs to run on one unit. Destinator, iGo and TomTom all ran well of this one GPS because I was able to get the GPS settings right.

IIRC, mtdblock0 is the WHOLE nand memory. So you cannot mount it, only mtdblock0p1, mtdblock0p2 etc etc. But yes, you can mount /system for writing with mount -o remount,rw /system

Perhaps liquid or scooter or somebody else will see this and point you in the right directions.

Sorry, forgot "mtdblock0" was NAND, pt1/2/3/4 is the partitions. Will try mounting and see if I can find anything. I've checked /system/libs/*.* ("all" for non-DOS users) and can't find anything pertaining to the GPS. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
/system/lib/libgps.so ???? <-----
Apparently I need to acces the kernel directly in order to change any values within the base GPS driver. I extracted OS (kernel) with NBH tool and gave it a once over.
I'll dig in later as myPITA girlfriend wants to go putz around today...pfft.
