"Offline" and stability issue, ROM / Radio recommendation? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hello all,
I have a Htc Touch Diamond (Rom 2.03.404.3 NLD, Radio 1.11.25.01) that I use with the GSM protocol only (I have 3g disabled for power consumption reasons).
My Diamond has the following problems:
- When I pull the USB/Power cable, sometimes the background illumination stays ON. I am unable to switch it off without performing a soft reset.
- Very often it appears that the phone is simply offline even though it displays full signal strength. It doesn't respond to incoming calls and I can't make any outgoing calls. I have to switch the transmitter OFF and ON again in the Comm Manager application before I can use the phone again.
This is a massive p.i.t.a: Sometimes I have been offline several days without knowing it !!! My phone is an unreliable piece of crap and I'm desperate to make it work more reliably. I don't need too many bells and whistles, I just want it to work. I think it is a power management or radio issue. I therefore installed HardSPL and a newer radio version (1.11.25.01) but the situation has not improved.
I am grateful for a tip on which ROM/Radio could solve these reliability issues!
Thanks in advance,
Arthur

Wow, very strange issues!
First, flash this radio : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=USMNPAS1
Second, flash this ROM with MTTY method : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521941 (It's the best ROM with WM6.1/TF3D 2.1, you can't find more stable)
You have to know too that : when you flash a radio, you have to change too a DLL (rilphone.dll) in WM to link up both. Gen.Y ROM includes 1.13 rilphone, so you will more performance & stability with the 1.13 RADIO.
If yours problems continue, it's maybe a hardware problem, or maybe a SIM problem ? (i already seen SIM card who makes a phone do many bugs)
Hop i've been useful

Thanks, I'll try that.

A stable configuration

Hello everyone,
I would like to start this new thread with a different purpose than trying to explorer the latest and gratest of releases of ROMs, extensions, software and patches.
I have tested many of the releases posted here and I have yet to find one that offer a rock solid unit that can be depended on in all situations.
What I would like is to put together a package based on the best of all available that offer the highest reliability available for our device.
It's very annoying to have to reset the device, somtimes more than one time in one day because you loose GPRS connectivety or because you turn on the WiFi card at an unlucky moment and lock up the device.
It's very annoying that you press the answer button repeatedly but have trouble picking up the rining phone.
It's very annoying that you try to make a call, but the phone keeps hanging up without making the call until you reset the phone subsystem.
It's very annoying that you pick up the device to make a call only to find that for some reason the phone has been locked up for hours with the screen on and now you are out of power and far away from your charger.
It's very annoying that your screen gets garbled and you find that you are unable to get the display back to normal without resetting the device.
It's very annoying that bluetooth more or less have turned out to be a marketing item only, since we have yet to se an implementation on the device that works (and maybe we never will)
If you agree with me or/and have experienced some or probably all of the above and have some input you would like to share on what is the best release, or have software and patched that have made a difference to you, then please contribute and maybe we could one day have a reliable operating system and software pack on our PDA that we can actually trust to handle the important task of keeping us connected to the rest of the information based world 24/7.
I hope many people will participate in this thread and that we can get to a release of software that we can all feel happy about, since it seems that none of the providers have been able to accomplish this task.
Michael
Fully agreed with you. And here is my BA config:
- MDA III with 1 Gb SD (Trandcent 80x)
- ROM 1.40 & radio 1.12
- Big storage - No Extended ROM
- Excluded nearly all software from WWE 1.40 ExtROM. Install only patched
Most apps are installed to storage
- Pocket Informant 2005 (In main memory)
- Pocket breeze 5 (In main memory)
- Pocket Player 2.6
- Sound Explorer 2005
- Pocket Navigator 2.74
- Sprite backup 3.1.4
- Mobile Pocket reader 5.0
- Total Commander 2.0
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 2.0 for PPC
- Tools: Cab Installer, vxUtils, Tascal Reg. Editor TRE 0.9, calculator, stop time ...
Full backup with Sprite backup 3.1.4, excutable archive file so that I can restore to a fully loaded system righ after hard reset. The backup is also in storage.
With this config the phone is very stable. On average 1 soft reset/week, mostly due to phone problem (I work in a building with very week GSM signal).
here here!
while ive not bothered to update for exactly one year now, i truely couldn't be bothered with the rom backup, new rom, install settings, settings restore, all to find out that... oh others are still having a problem with phones hanging/not connecting, because you used bluetooth and didn't reset before using gprs. of course, silly me!
right now i'm looking for a stable basic setup, with Tomtom 5 (bt gps mouse) and gprs useage... and possibly, using them together!
it does seem experimenting is only way to do so...
What a good idea - however, after one year of updating ROMs I do not think that there is a stable system for this device after all ...
I cannot use my Qtek for business because
- I am not sure whether I will miss a call because my Qtek somehow decides not to ring
- I am never sure whether I can finish a call decently (or the devices shuts down on its own)
And I am tired of resetting the device before and after
- using WLAN
- using BT
Currently, I am on
ROM 1.42.01 GER
Radio 1.12.00
ExtROM 1.42.116 GER
which still has all the flaws mentioned above.
This is the 4th different ROM I have installed (WWE, GER). I mainly use it for storing contact info and meetings.

I still wan't to try.
I'm using a configuration of 1.40 and 1.12. This is OK, but the phone app is still quite unstable and the device itself will hang. Most trouble seems to be when you press a key at an unlucky split second when the unit is trying to do something else, this often leads to lockups.
Does anyone have any input regarding the version numbers to use? Especially is 1.42 or 1.31 better than 1.40? and is 1.12 better than 1.13 or vice versa?
What about patches and registry hacks, what do you consider being a vital patch or hack to improva stability dramatically ... ? If any.
I hope to get some input from you guys that install every single thing and have gained allot of input on what works and what doesn't?
Michael
This combination seems to be vert stable for Scandinavians
I have had very good results so far with this combination:
BA_DT_WWE_NorwayRetail_14000_149_11200_Ship.exe
Then install:
86794-9090_radio_upgrade_1.15.00.zip
This is so far the bes experience I have had while I had the device.
Michael
Update
After a while, I have observed that I'm still having the GPRS connect problem and I have therefore installed the:
IA_CallerID_1.20_WWE.CAB
I will update my experience in a while. So far I like this combination, except that GPRS cinnection problem. I haven't had many other problems. There has been a little "flutter" around Blue Tooth and TomTom, If you try to start TomTom with BT disabled, you sometimes seem to grid lock until you re-boot.
Extended ROMs
Is it my imagination? The higher the extended ROM version the less stabillity? It seems to me that way. The more stuff they add, the less overall stability you get. Does anyone have a different experience?

i find that when upgrading to the new WM5 roms, that all my files, programs and settings, even contacts and messages are all still as i left them, i just put the device into bootloader and plonk into the cradle, then start upgrade 2 mins later its done, all new features and nothing that is usually backed up is changed.
The best stabillity so far
I'm still running with the configuration outlined in my previous posts. And it's pretty stable, the only problems I seem to be affected by are:
After 1 to 7 days the GPRS connection fails and I have to reset the device to get it working.
Rarely some applications and the phone gets in a bind somehow, probably by starting at the same time in an incompatible way and lock up the phone. I have to reboot the device to get out of that.
The phone part itself seems to be stable and I have no missing sound or low volume issues.
I had good bluetooth functionality, but since paring my device with my GPS I can't get the device to connect correctly to my headset. I will pair up and then when it tries to connect it fails. I'm unsure what that's about. I don't use the bluetooth headset much, so I haven't been bothered much by this, but I would ofcourse prefer if everything was working as you would expect it to!
I would upgrade my base ROM to 1.42, but my testing and experiences with that have been that it's more unstable than 1.40.
I'm even more convinced now that I'm right about the extended ROM thing, the higher the version of extended ROM to more problems (potential problems).
Any input on stability are very welcome, I would love to find a near perfect configuration where most things work 100% and all the time.

Problem with phone using any WM5 ROMS

I have tried Tuma, Logout and Ivans versions and agree with the comments elsewhere on speed, reliability, battery use etc. However, I have had a problem with ALL of these ROMS - the phone stops working after 60 seconds (or less)!?! I have also tried 1.12, 1.13 and 1.15 of Radio but still the phone calls drop.
No-one else seems to have reported this problem so thought it was my device but I've reverted back to WM2003SE and it works fine. I really want to use WM5 and wonder whether there is an issue with the operator ID or if for some reason Orange are only allowing emergency type calls?

Best RADIO for TOFCLOCK/HELMI WM6 ?

7 radio ROM exist for our HIMALAYA -
http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=132&func=select&id=26
My experience -
1.08 - Modem not ready sometimes for GPRS > need Off/On radio. Faster discharge battery ?
1.17 - Phone not reply (inaccessible) for incoming talk sometimes > need Off/On radio.
1.19 - Off/On radio (flight mode) is very slow or imposible.
which one is the most stable?
Im trying now 1.14.
Radio 1.19 is so far so good for me.
1.17 works good on my HIMALAYA(TOFCLOCK)~
signal problem
Now I`m using 1.18 .
With my experience with my device , this radio version is very bad . sometimes the signal strength lost / blank . Huhhh
I`m tired with my device .
Anyone can solve the signal problem ?
with change the radio version or what !!!
Thanks
I am still using radio version 1.08 and this is working fine for me,
Best Regards
Im still running 1.08 too but not stable enough. Will try others soon....
Hmm, right now I'm using 1.18 (were using all of them already).
Signal is good, and right now battery is 18% and I'm still able to talk, without any voice quality drop.
Still, can't return from airplane.
Hi,
Is it possible to turn the flight mode off from the wireless manager. I do not seems to be able to do that with radio rom 1.18. With radio 1.08 it was possible. Well I will use with radio rom 1.18 for a few days to see if it is stable.
Hi, having the same annoying bug for radio roms 1.17, 1.18 and 1.19 - after a reset (hard or soft) I see gsm network signal for some time (from 1 sec to 3-4 hours) and then it disappears, and there's no way to make the phone get operating again. I'm still trying the 1.08, and it seems not to have any strange behaviour... it does the same with WM2003, 2005 and 2006.
I really do not care about the battery, as long as I can receive calls so as for now, I'll keep the 1.08...
so.... it's not a bug. It seems you have a broken radio or some really old hardware? Don't know. It's PH10B, right?
@utak3r could you explain me more detail about PH10B concerning its capability. It must be good knowledge for us. Thank in advanced. Also if you have a way how to improve the performance, indeed not to change the PDA with the new one
I contacted SosTekIt, which released an Italian rom based on WM2005, and he was of the same opinion; but, in WM2005 I'm still trying with the same SIM card, I have no issues at all.
Yes, the board is PH10B, and the strangest part ever is that in WM2006 if I can make a call in the few seconds I see the signal, then the phone is fully functional, even for HOURS. But when I roam out of the gsm cell, the signal disappear.
Truly, this is freaking me out
Well, I can believe you...
This is really strange, and as for now I can find no explanation for such a behaviour. Will try to think about it, but... oh well.
Some more details...
1. Same strange behaviour in WM2005 (buzz rom)
2. The "Preferred Networks" (Settings -> Phone -> Network -> Set Networks) list shows that my mobile operator is always the last, unchecked. I modify the list, update the settings, and they keep existing until I get out of GSM cell.
3. When awakening, if the phone shows the G icon of GPRS, then it locks to the signal and never looses.

Wifi not working on Touch Fuze

Inherited a HTC Fuze recently loaded with a custom Win 6.5 ROM. Noticed a couple of glitches that need fixing. Posting version below and then the issues I'm facing. Help appreciated as I'm new to this forum!
Rom Version : 23034_beta2 WWE 05/15/09
Radio Version : 1.02.25.32
Issues -
- Wifi not working. The fuze is unable to connect to the wifi network. All other devices I have recognize the network and connect. The fuze just can't.
- Fuze randomly starts adjusting system volume, then opens camera application and takes pictures. All without any intervention or touch from my side. Removing battery and then rebooting helps for a while, but the problem is persistent.
Clarifications Sought -
- Was thinking of flashing the Energy ROM Phoenix2 onto this. Would it solve
some problems?
- Does the radio need an upgrade? version mentioned above
Thanks
I'd recommend flashing to a new energyrom and upgrading the radio to 1.12.25.19 or the 1.17.25.09 one. I'm using the EnergyROM_28011_RAPHAEL_12.Dec.2009_StandardM2.5_MaxManila.rar
with the 1.17.25.09 radio and everythings working good.
Only thing about Manila 2.5 is that it doesn't have landscape and the 20811 roms have the start menu and other bottoms on the bottom of the screen, while the 21884 have them on the top like normal Windows Mobile builds.
Btw, im located in New York.
Hey,
Flashed to |RAPH|6.5.3|WWE| ★ EnergyROM 'Phoenix 2' (28011/21884) ★|Dec 9|Manila 2.1/Titanium but now the wifi button is greyed out....
Should I try a radio upgrade?
let's try to maximum performance for wifi
changing the wifi channel fixed it!

[Q] gps not compatible?

I have an x1i running windows mobile 6.5 Energy rom (build 2308.1.5.30)
and it contains radio 1.14.25.55.
I bought it this way, but the problem is that the GPS sensor does not work. I have tried the usual programs to activate it, but no signal whatsoever in any of the programs (Chart CrossGPS test, GPS scanner, GPS reset, HTC GPSTool). Is the ROM or radio incompatible with the GPS hardware? Or is there a way to test if the hardware itself is not working.
I like the phone a lot (now), even though I am a Mac person. Flashing a new ROM would be a big deal with a Mac. Plus I have set up the phone very nicely now. Hoping for an easy way out. GPS is not a huge deal for me but it keeps nagging.
check control panel setting: let windows managed automatically enable
check registry: \HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\
isenable : 1.
check if using gpsmod driver : com4 enable.
hope thats help.
In the external GPS control panel, I enable the Manage GPS automatically
Also the settings on the registry is as you recommended
I do not have gpsmod.
so far no luck
You can flash a new radio and will be able to keep your settings, contacts, messages, etc. If you have trouble flashing with a Mac, you can easily flash via SD.
Try out the different radios available here in XDA. I went from 1.14 to 1.16 a year ago, got a HUGE boost in reception and battery life, but had to flash to the unofficial 1.17 since GPS did not work in 1.16 for me.
Thanks, I will try this.
Tried the radio 1.17. Flashing is indeed straightforward via SD card. Unfortunately the GPS did not work. I then changed the whole system by flashing the 826x series rom, as recommended here recently in the Q and A section. Great ROM, even better than the one I used. Still no GPS, so I concluded that it is a hardware issue. Then used an external GPS and finally got it to work after changing some registry data, because the 'external gps' settings on the phone would not save a com port for the external device, as others had also experienced. Used the two links below and finally deduced a solution from that as written below the links. (I could not use the exact solution from the link, since the registry item referring to the external device was named differently) Freedom Keychain GPS 2000 is the external device I use, really cheap (19 euro) and lasts up to 10 hours and is really small (considering the battery use of X1 not a bad solution).
the links:
sorry as new user I am not allowed to post the links
the changes in the registry:
1. [HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers]
"CurrentDriver"=" GPSOnePort
2. [HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\GPSOnePort]
"CommPort"="COMX:" where X = the hardware COM port (for me COM0)
"InterfaceType"="COMM"
