Ok so this part is just never working for me...
before i had a samsung omnia i900
now i have a new shiny se x1...
almost everyone and their mother says "align the screen on a flat surface and tap ever so lightly"...
well when the align screen utility starts the + appears on the center. i tap lightly and it doesnt move. i tap again and no go. i am always forced to apply pressure. a lot of pressure until it moves to the next corner of the screen.
so where does "lightly" apply? how on earth do you tap "lightly" ??
pls advise.
well... that's simple. do not use excessive physical force on the screen, as You may pierce it... seriously, alignment is more of a "tap'n'hold", so press gently and hold until it moves on to next point. simple, isn't it?

Hi All,
Is it my phone or is it a problem with the diamond in that I find it almost impossible to use the d pad to go left and right. Up and down works a treat, but left either makes a call or goes to the home page and when I want to naiviagte right, well it mostly causes the centre dpad to click. Any ideas, send the phone back; it's almost impossible to play worms!
i have the same problem. i think it is not a manufacturing problem, it is designed as is.
i have seen somewhere in the manual, that htc recommends to use the finger nails to press the navigation buttons.
Same behaviour here. It's just bad design. Not a fault of your particular device.
Thats so Cr*p!, don't get me wrong, I love the phone, but that is bad manufacturing, I though HTC were better than that. I am disappointed that they get everything else so nice, but screw up the nav keys, they are pretty damn important. It like saying the that the "T" key on the keyboard sometimes gives you "T" but sometimes it'll give you "R".!! Anyone tries talking to HTC about it?
Oh well, I'll just roll over and take it --- again
Hi there,
just keep in mind that the navigation left/right uses the same (physical) switch as the other buttons. the function called is just determined by the position of your fingers on the capazitive touch element. So you just hav to be quite precise. pressing with the whole of your thumb can cause the problems you state. use your fingertips instead and everything will be fine.
in the beginning I had some trouble but my problem was that I pressed too close to the centre button... I have no problem pressing left or right now. The sweetspot is about the middle between the edge of teh circular button and the home/phone keys

I also find it helps to press a little bit lower than you might think (especially on the right button)

Hey, wow. Thanks a lot. That's really the point.
Ever worried about pressing one of the other buttons (Home, Back, Send, End) when pressing to far outside the center. But now that I realised that there are no other buttons to accidently hit, everything works quite fine.
would be great if someone finally finds out how to remap buttons. in that case i am the first to reassign the home button with the left key and back button with right key...
Wish it would be possible to touch the wheel and get LEFT/RIGHT instead of pressing them. Would make it so much easier to use the wheel/pad buttons.

Remap light wheel for up down left right
Now that sounds like a wicked idea. Remap it so that when the touch sensitive circular wheel is not being used for it's whizzy ipod type wheel capability, it is instead used for touch sensitive left, right, up or down!.
Hmm, I'd donate for sure for that to happen!
funny thing about those hardware keys is that they are combined with a capacitive key, eg, try to press the home key with the back of your stylus without touching the button with your finger. it wil respond as dail key pressed.
If you try to press al the buttons at once, there is only one click at either side
Just wondering if it would be possible to raise the touch screen so that it is flush with the case
Yeah its simple!
Just follow these simple instructions:
1. Place the phone on a flat level surface, battery side down, slid open.
2. Make sure the phone is on, at the today screen or main screen of TF3D SPB etc.
3. Whilst pressing the J key simply say 'Flush screen please'
4. Release the 'J' key and hey presto! A flush screen.
Hope this helps goldenchild7801

It is a hardware mod! That procedure activates tiny hydraulic pumps that lift the screen to be flush with the case. HTC told me about it when the phone came out but I have been keeping it secret for nearly a year now! I am sorry guys hope you can forgive me

Now, this is what I call funny.
Funny but on a serious not, for anyone who has taken their X1 apart. How wide is the touchscreen, is it flush with the inside cutout of the case or does the touchscreen has a lip that goes under the case edges.
There are many vids on youtube and detailed pics about X1 taken apart . Check them out, but I reaaaaally doubt something like that is possible in this case. You can always put 20 screen protectors........................
ill probably have to take my phone apart to find out, i dont think the videos will give me enough detail that i will need

Might help?
Martin Fields screenprotector brings the screen up a little (it is relatively thick compared to others I saw).
Stack two of them to make it flush?
When i press on the screen i see waves on the screen sides is it ok
Why would you even press the screen that hard? It's like pressing on a monitor.
I dont press hard i just put my finger on the edge of the screen and i get waves
Might be a hardware issue then. Get it exchanged.
Reconfirm it by taking a screen shot when you press on it, if the screen shot doesn't show then it's a hardware issue.
can anyone check if they have it too i dont want to send the phone to repair for nothing
its like when u press on a calculator screen waves on the lcd

Nothing here. I can see some blurring on the spot where i push the screen, but that's normal when you push a little harder.
Thats my problem but even when i press a little i get this blur and i got ir only on the left side of the screen i think its a problem one side feel soft and the other side feel hard

i dont know how gentle (or your definition of gentle) you are pressing the screen but i guess its normal. If it really bothers you that much get it exchanged. If you bought it online then just stick with what youve got, dont even bother going through that much hassle. On the other hand, if you bought it locally, then just go in and ask and show them. I dont think anyone here can give you a solid answer to this matter.
So you've played with changing button sensitivity, heard about perhaps removing the screen protector, but still don't get it?
I think I might.
Try this, let me know if you guys can confirm, then perhaps we need to send info to HTC?
Unlock your screen
Place your phone on a level surface so its curved back can rock back and forth.
Enter the app drawer, so pressing HOME will actually do something.
As gently as you can, steady the phone with one hand, and touch HOME (It should work)
Now, re-enter the app drawer and press quickly on your phone's HOME key. This will cause it to quickly rock back and forth a bit and shake.
Press the home key all you want, it shouldn't work... especially the more you bang on it.
Wait 10 seconds.
Steady your phone again, press HOME gently. It should work.
The theory? Something is programmed in the phone that if it detects rapid shaking, like maybe in a pocket or being handed back and forth during watching a video... to turn off the buttons to prevent undesired actions. BUT, the curved back of the phone naturally lets this motion occur so it's triggering when it shouldn't.
If you're particularly twitchy, maybe that can cause it from time to time while even in hand too?
SOLUTION:
Run calibration tool a few times until the symptom goes away. Try alternating between pressing more firmly or more softly to make a difference. Take care to center your fingers on the letters.
If you experience bad button behavior while phone is on a flat surface, re-calibrate:
SETTINGS->Language and Keyboard->HTC Sense Input->Advanced->Run Calibration Tool
I couldn't replicate this problem. The home button works as intended while being rocked. I also haven't found to have any button response issues that some encountered.

Heh, come on man... the phone has BOOM Sound, it was meant to be rocked, no?!
Serious note though... yeah always have thought the buttons worked fine too and thought other people were crazy...
I lay it flat though casually press them, they go away and don't come back.
Also couldn't replicate it. Basically the home/back buttons work when they want to, which apparenlty is about 95% of the time. The other 5% is just purified annoyingness.
Allegedly HTC has fixed the button problem in 1.29.XXX.12 which so far has only rolled out to unbranded phones in Europe and Asia. However if you have the international phone you can install the newest Android Revolution ROM which is based on the .12 software. Everyone who has .12 seems to agree that the button sensitivity issue is gone.
Re-ran calibration tool pressing normally and it seems to have fixed it.
No amount of shaking or rapid pressing causes the phone to miss a button press.
This is with US Version of phone w/ screen protector.
If you experience bad button behavior while phone is on a flat surface, re-calibrate:
SETTINGS->Language and Keyboard->HTC Sense Input->Advanced->Run Calibration Tool
Why does the stylus need any pressure at all to register a click? Why doesn't it work by just touching the screen?

If you apply pressure your pen or marker or whatever becomes wider just as it would in real life. If you only touch the screen it's a thin line.
Kudos if you are an artist. I just want a pointing device, and one that "clicks" on objects. It's hard enough having to hold my phone in the air, and carefully aim the stylus. because the user interface is no longer gingerbread and you have desktop like menus without an actual desktop operating system. Retardedness prevailed as Android felt pressured to mimic iOS.
Having to click hard slows me down, or makes me slide off target. I can touch the screen with precision, but if I have to apply pressure the precision is lost. So, I don't want this nifty feature of ooh ahh, it works as well as the best stylus for an artist. I could care less. In fact, I hate this nifty feature and want to turn it off.
Can you tell I'm grumpy?
