My stock AT&T shows about 54% used and 86mb free with no apps or Touch Flo running after soft reset
After launchin Touch Flo - 62% used and 70mb free
scrolling through the touch flo menu once and not launching anything - 66% 64mb
opening butt load of apps including Touch Flo - 90% 18mb
closing all apps - 60% 75mb
Here is the question. How does everyone compare their stock ROM to the cooked ones? If I open more than 3 apps, I start to get slow downs. I did remove as much bloat as I could and used memmaid to clean out old stuff. Which ROMS have the best memory usage?
Thanks for the feedback.
I only see one ROM with published memory stats. I'm really trying to learn here. Are there more ROMs with published results? Thanks.
I was able to get my Raphael with new ROMS and the performance increased. The memory usage went from 110mb used to 80mb.

Well its up to the cooks to do so. The best way to find it is to flash!

Mine will have the most free memory for obvious reasons. However, mine is Sprint only.

Well my New rom Cell PRO V7.5 beats that by far and it includes alot of good stuff from leo.
I use Energy ROM photon 10/21/09-21864 version.
47% RAM used with touchFLO after soft reset
51% with scrolling
using Opera browser, watch movies, play music. after 1 day about 70-75%.
even when opening lots of apps, including Google map and opera, still <80%
47% again after reset. I can go more than 1 week without the need to reset.
Seems like this Energy ROM uses much less RAM than your ATT stock ROM.
I have my first report:
Stock ROM on boot = 70mb free
to this ROM = 100mb free
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585403
By the way, if you run Copilot Live 8 it uses 25mb running.

Hi, i have now EtenX650 which has 64Mb RAM and i have about 27Mb free all time on some roms. So it seems very strange to me, that Diamond have 192Mb RAM and only 60MB free!!! It's possible to delete manilla? Does anybody make this, how much free RAM then it have?
I wanna run Opera, Pigeon, Toonel and Russa together same time )))))
i think you can just go to Today Settings and take TouchFlow 3d off the today screen. do a soft reset just to make sure and check how much memory you get..
wait lemme do that now..
i got 60.68MB free w/o TF3d and soft resetting..

Same here running the 1.37 rom on my uk diamond.
Thanx, but as i see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401828
60Mb of free RAM you have with enabled Manilla too? If Diamond use same WM6.1 it must use only ~40Mb RAM, so here must be about 150Mb free!!!
Can you open process manager and summarize RAM eaten by running programs?
Well at the moment i have 50mb free, in use i have 64mb in use...now i cant see where its being used...ive looked through my task manager and memory settings but nothing is coming up.
Just like what someone did to HTC D900, upgraded its RAM from 64MB to 128MB.
If Diamond gets 288MB RAM just like Touch Pro, it would be perfect because Touch Pro is too thick to me.
Any idea?
Thanks!
I think no, Diamond with its size is so small, I really doubt that there is place for another RAM module. But, I have Diamond, and I must say that these 55 MB RAM which you will get with TouchFlo 3D are enough.
Yeah even with the phone skin and TF3D on, and with all the RAM eating speed increase tweaks you get more than 50MB available.
Why do you need more? Even a huge huge program like IGO 8 doesn't need more than 30MB.
Even if you need more RAM, you can turn off the phone skin and TF3D to gain around +15MB RAM easily.
I only have 35mb free...
Im running SwiftBL v6.0 Lite with 16mb cache. Is it normal?

Something's wrong there. I'm also using SwiftBL 6 and I have 65MB free. You're either confusing used ram with free ram, or you have somthing huge running in the background.
I want more ram because when you run 2~3 apps in Diamond, it's free ram will drop to 10~20 MB, and then the phone is quite slow. If you watch the Touch Pro videos(just search Youtube), it runs much faster than Diamond, even it's now without very good roms.
Hy well i started this thread becouse i recently upgraded from an elf to a diamond... and now i'm not so sure i did a good thing... besides the fact that tf3d its better looking its running worse than the old manila 2d, wich was way way smoother on my elf. thing is i had so few ram on the elf i always runed out of memory when using opera mobile...but on diamond with so much ram and cpu speed available i can tell the difference in opera mobile but thats all... becouse the tf3d it's crap (in my opinion)
So i ask here is there any other rom wich i can use who might not have tf3d or maybe some cube like old elf, or maybe some other gui wich looks preaty nice? or maybe a clean rom and use another gui wich works on vga? i did a lot of search and i only found out SPB wich aint free.
ps i have read people saying that they have theyir diamonds at 30-35% memory afther soft reset, well mine its always around 50% and afther one day of using it (normal usage dialing, calling, a bit of teeter and some web browsing) i reach 90% still i did the tweak with opera preload in registry... but its crap i have to reset it all day at least once... how is this posible ? i mean elf had 64 ram and i still could play with 15 ram from the 64, diamond has 192 and i can play with only of them ? so where are the rest? what is using those 160mb of ram ? was elf using other version of windows mobile (as i remember it was 6.1 same like the one on diamond) is tf3d so much memory hungry ?
thanks hope u understand my english and hope someone can enlight me a bit, or direct me to some links where i can read about this (problem) besides the search, cose (i might be dumb) i canot find anithing relevant...
I'm going to take a stab, and say it might be related to your rom (carrier loaded rom especially).
I bought the US 3g unlocked Diamond (no carrier)..and I was happy with it (faster then my old hermes).
I'm now using Dutty's latest rom..and it is very smooth.
Have you tried turning off touchflo, and sticking with the manila 2d UI?
I have the CT's v 6.4 HD Lite ROM which includes TouchFLO 3D and the speed is good. Highly recommended.
As for soft reset, I normally switch off the phone at the end of the day. That is same as soft reset and I switch it back on next morning, I think.
well as far as i know manila 2d ui aint for VGA... or at least i couldn't find anything to work on 600x480...
TF2D for VGA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429224
I agree with you, TF3D is absolute crap. The speed doesn't bother me so much, it's just the memory that is used up for no good purpose, given that TF3D has no genuine benefit whatsoever. I can't think of a single feature that works properly or usefully, compared to ordinary WM apps and today plugins.
[/rant]
I think the Diamond's a great little phone - attractive and good pocket size - and the battery life isn't too much of a problem. However, given how slow the Diamond is at graphics and file system operations, it doesn't need to be burdened by a white elephant like TF3D.
SPB Mobile Shell is very popular but I went the tradional route of using SPB Pocket Plus with Phone Suite and some other plugins. DevState 1.5 works great as a Today screen task manager.
I just installed Gtrab's Rom and it was realllllllllllllllllllly reallllllllllllllly reallly slow.
Than I got my Sprite Backup Software to quickly install all of my apps, I filled my memory to 90 percent and it's strange how Windows Mobile 6.5 is not laggy anymore.
Does anyone have an explanation for this?
The only way I can explain this is that the assumed causal relation between the initial lag and the memory, implicated in your post, never existed.
Did you consider the fact that most often when you newly install an OS (or in this case a ROM), it takes a while for all files to be loaded (for the first time) and some stuff activated (happens in the background).
It's probable, that - had you only soft-reset the phone - it would have become quicker without the apps as well.

I'm using Gtrab rom too....it's very very fast at the beginning as well as after I loaded tons of software.Very fast and stable rom...Thanks Gtrab..
Hello
I thought it'd be a good idea to create a list of the different memory rates of the different roms (cooked & stock), as not all of them list memory usage, and it'd be good to have them all in one place [I'm thinking Wiki, if we get this list complete enough].
Please help me create this list.
Thanks in advance,
Panarchy

Energy CHT - 60MB free. Although it varies from each update. and you really need to post if it's running max sense, cht, or stock wm interface.
This is going to be kind of hard to keep up to date. Because new versions of each ROM keep being released on a regular basis, and their memory figures may change.
Also, you need to make sure you get memory figures from the clean ROM with nothing else installed on top. Even going to some Sense tabs uses up RAM space (try it and see after a reboot).
energy roms use 70% of memory
this thread is a good idea but i think it will be very hard to keep up with. and youll get entries that will just irritate some people hah.
maybe use ranges instead of being exact. i dunno lol.

Umm, are you serious ? Which version of EnergyROM exactly ? There are loads of variants of EnergyROM, with varying memory usage.
All of them
I use to only use energy roms but they honestly got so overloaded with apps and options that with the current Rhodium device im useing it became un-usable.. Im now running ""Jacko's full"" best rom ive seen thus far
i like ShowLITE from Jackos its pretty fast! too bad the dialer is messed up stupid tilt 2
