hi! all,
here’s a question for “experts”:
how can a SD slot be SDIO enabled?
I mean:
is it a question of electronic components onto the motherboard of the slot?
(I’ll have no more problem as far as there’s no solution)
is it relevant with the firmware of the slot?
(I always may ask the manufacturer if he plans any upgrade)
is it a problem of driver for that slot?
(I can look on the web if something can work)
is it a matter of registry?
(I will search for the proper tweak or hack)
WHY THIS QUESTION?
because I would like to use a Toshiba Bluetooth SD card in the SD slot of a netbook
and as I can’t have it working easily, I searched on the web and found those pages at Toshiba website:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/Bluetooth/?page=faq/bluetoothnotworking
see 3rd section “SD Bluetooth Card works only with Toshiba PDA's.“ leading to ...
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/Bluetooth/?page=toshiba/compatibility-list
see “Bluetooth SD Card 2” in “PC Bluetooth Stack:” section leading to ...
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/Bluetooth/?page=toshiba/sdbt2
thank you for your hints
Laurent
would say unless it's a pretty cheap sdreader it would support sdio also
but on pc's I think in most cases you would have to write the driver yourself from scratch
thanks for your hint Rudegar
BUT you mean driver or firmware?
because driver is the Microsoft Windows generic one:
SD host controller etc. ...
and this driver is supposed to support SDIO function ...
BUT how to activate this???
that's the question
regards
Laurent
not firmware
not driver for the sdcard reader
driver for the SDIO card giving access to whatever function it offers
and no a wm driver would not work and
it's not a big chance of too many SDIO card makers make win32 drivers for their devices

hi folks
this is my first post and any help would be appreciated...
i have a mda vario 3 and am trying to install software on the sdhc card 8gb by sandisak.
my computer sees this as an external drive but still says insert disk in drive d? some colleagfues say the pc cannot read that size of the card and requires a bios update????? any ideas what they are talking about and how i fix this problem
Thanks in advance
Hi tubzy,
I'm new to this topic, but I think you'll need a SDHC compatible card reader.
In the linked thread is a solution I think.

Bye
EDA-One
no solution still
hi eda-one
sorry this still is no soluton - i do hae the latest sandisk with the card reader and once all this gear is connected to the pc it says...please insert a disk in drive f??
even though the disk is in the usb card reader
did you try format it?
If you have used the card on an 'oldish' PC without the latest BIOS or Windows updates installed it may not be SDHC compatible even using a card reader.
You can also get a situation where formatting using the standard Windows formatter or even just writing files to it from your PC will corrupt its filing system.
There are various utilities available on SD manfacturers sites for formatting and recovery.
Check out the 'Formatting and Read/Write check util in the OEM section here and download the latest drivers for your reader whilst there.
http://sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx
Hope this helps.
Hi and thank you
HI
Even after trying this it still doe s not work,
I have downloaded the utility and attempted to run it but it says no usb found even though it can vonnect to a usb pen drive?? any ideas ??
thank you
I had that same problem when I first got my 4 Gb SDHC card and it was because I didn't connect the card reader directly to a USB port, instead I was using an external USB port. When I put it in to an onboard one, even though all of mine are on the back of my computer, it started working.
8gb card
Hi and thanks for your response.
i am sorry but can you please clarify what you mean to be onboard usb port. Is this the sockets where you normally connect any usb device eg a mouse to a computer or do you mean i have to take the computer apart and do it a motherboard level?
I am not very technical and apologise in advance if it sounds a silly question.
I bought the damn thing and was hoping it would and should work from out of the cardboard package. I can see this on the my computer as an external drive but when clcikcing on it it says insert disk
if the disk was faulty it would not work on the phone but on the phone it says 7.5 gb available and have stored some data there. So i think it it is a case of the pc not being able to read the card and from there i dont know what the problem is.
Any further light on this subject would really be appreciated

You have it right about what I meant. I did mean the sockets where you connect any USB device. You don't need to take your computer apart or anything. If that's what you are already doing then it's possible that the reader that you got with the card may just be faulty.
Not knowing what adapter you are using is a problem. I had similar problems with my first SDHC card and finally went to a local office supply store (Staples) and bought a "Sandisk MobileMate+ USB Memory Card Reader" for $15. It is a memory stick sized device and it accepts the SDHC MicroSD cards directly in it's slot. This works great on any PC so far.
It just may be the reader.
thanks!
This is a nightmare on elm street scenario.
I have finally tracked it to a faulty card reader, so i purchased another one. This one works and we have another problem - cannot copy data file path is too deep???????????
I am openeing another thread for that
Thanks to every1 for trying various solutions
I'm guessing you got a bad card..which is going to happen a lot with these high-cap cards, at least for a while. I am assuming you are using the small, plastic USB reader that came with the 8 gb card....that plugs directly into a USB socket? If not...I can tell you right now..the "older" adapters will NOT work with 4/6/8 gb cards. By this, i mean the adapter/reader that usually comes with the cards in the package. Also, it may sound silly..but make SURE you didnt, or are not, forcing the card into the phone/reader backwards...i know it's silly, but it's damn easy to do..and it usually trashes the card. My 8 gb just got in tonight...and it's working like a champ. I'm guessing you got a bad card. best of luck.
This is crazy. My phone reads the card just fine, but the card readers I have do not work period. 8G SDHC
Is there/will there be any way to get more than 4GB storage?
Does the phone have USB host support to connect an USB stick?
Is there any Bluetooth/Wi-fi flash reader or USB hub on the market?
Hmm, not sure if it has host support, but wouldnt a usb stick just defeat the whole purpose of having such a small device?
It might be possible to use bluetooth to connect to a flash reader etc, but i don't think windows would have native support for that.
The only other way is to open it and replach the flash chips - but that depends on what package chips they use and what lines they run on the pcb. I'm quetly hopefull.
no it doesnt allow for extra storage to be put on, unless your into NAND stacking...

i don't know how much truth is there to this but check this out:
this copied from: http://www.navigadget.com/index.php/2008/04/26/htc-diamond-specs/
"GPS enabled HTC Diamond’s specs are all over the internets and we thought we’d share this with our readers:
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
Qualcomm MSM 7201A @ 528MHz
256MB ROM / 128MB RAM
7.2MB HSDPA / HSUPA (rev A EVDO for Sprint versions)
2.8″ VGA screen
WiFi
Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR
eGPS
3.1MP Camera with flash
Forward facing camera
Samsung MoviNAND 4GB internal flash storage
Orientation sensor
FM Radio
microSD expansion]
900mAh battery
Dimensions: 51×99x10.7mm "
hmm and i don't think they are right ..
the HTC DIAMOND DOES NOT HAVE A MICROSD SLOT!!!
These are olddd specs from end april. I think its safe to say its conclusive there is NO memory expansion slot on the diamond.
I don't think it's correct either. The Diamond has the 4GB internal and no expansion, the Raphael has the qwerty and micro SD expansion and no internal 4GB. Unless they have changed it. Thanks, JASTECH

All I want to do is transfer some ringtones that I made to my Tilt, from my Linux OS. Is this possible somehow ? Or do I really have to dig up my older than hell XP laptop, then install proprietary software in order to transfer files ? Thanks.
Doug
I tried SynCE ages ago, but I eventually gave up. I usually stick to the microSD card or SSH.
same here, I've tried a ton of different things, but all have failed...
I think pof has got it working on an ubuntu machine, why don't you pm him?
Discouraging, but I appreciate the honesty. I'll try and PM pof and see what he says. Otherwise, I guess it'll be all micro SD transfers. Thanks again.
Doug
I just download everything.. I put it in a folder tree structure based on the type of file (Communications, Schedule, Utility, etc) and then I access it from the phone from the web.
Sometimes also push things over bluetooth.
You could also attempt the Card Export / WM5torage solution; which lets you access the storage card as a USB Mass Storage device; and no proprietary software is needed for that route. I think I read that someone had that working in linux.
Jason
What I have done with my Ubuntu laptop is simply send the file via Bluetooth. It's a little slow, but it works like a champ!

Is the card export thing a program I download from somewhere, or a cab file that enables the micro sd card to be read as a ums device ? That sounds like a perfect solution.
Bluetooth sounds good too, but my PC isn't (I didn't install one) equip with a BT card. The Macbook Pro, on the other hand... (which I've had a ***** of a time trying to get set up with the Tilt thus far...)

Ive got a Macbook Pro. What problems have you had? Maybe I can help you out a bit? Ive had no problems so far. Bluetooth file exchange works seamlessly for smaller programs and apps. When it comes to flashing roms, just use the microsd card with a card reader and rename the .nbh to KAISIMG.nbh
If you have any questions feel free to ask me.
Also, you can get a USB Bluetooth dongle these days for all of 15USD on Ebay. I would definitely invest in one for the other computer
I bought a kingston 8gb microsdhc card with a usb reader and I use the udb reader and I get " usb device not recognized"

What is the specific model of the USB reader? Did it come with the card or was it a separate purchase?

Hmmmm seems to me like the reader isnt functioning properly, or your computer is having issues with windows built in drivers ( Unlikely ). Have you tried to put the reader/card into another PC to see if it recognizes there ? If not I would send it back under warranty.
The reader and card are certainly paired and made to work for SDHC so there isnt a compatibility issue. It if works in another PC, it would tell me that you may want to back up and reinstall windows. XP does get shaky sometimes with driver issues but not normally with something so common as a card reader.
One more thing. It seems others have had some issues with that specific combo. If you have USB ports on the front and back of your computer, try using the back ones if youre using the front one now ( Or the reverse if that happens to be the case )
**Edit**
Also take the card in and out of the reader a couple times. Some people are saying its a loose connection between the card and the reader's pins that can cause an issue.
I have the same combo that came with a 2GB card, the reader worked fine with my 8GB card as well. However the reader seems fragile. It works very well when it does and is extremely fast, but now as said it has bad contacts with the card. The problem is different than the one the OP has though, the reader is recognised properly, Windows just says "Please insert a disk in drive X:" when clicking on it. If I squeeze the reader with my fingers it does then touch the card and works. Not really usable that way though
Hi newb here ... did search but could not find the answer. Please forgive me if I missed the obvious.
I have an HD+ running cm10.1 emmc by verygreen (THANKS!). I am trying to read from an SD card via usb host. I have confirmed that usb host function is working by plugging in usb thumb drives. But when I plug in a card reader with the card inserted -- no matter a single slot reader or a multi-format reader -- it is not mounted.
What is more, I installed "USB Host Viewer", and it is able to see the readers. It is showing a device .../usb/001/0xx where xx is an increasing number if I keep it running while unplugging/replugging the card reader. But if I try to mount .../usb/001/0xx or ../usb/001 or .../usb mount would not be able to find the device. Also I tried several usb host controller/mount apps (e.g. stickmount and many others) none would be able to do the job.
Since the viewer can see the reader, I suppose what is missing is the actual device path that I should give to mount. But how do I find it out?
Advice is greatly appreciated. This is the only thing that is missing in my usage model -- I want to be able to read camera cards into the HD+.
Thanks,
Sean
No takers? It is hard to believe no one wanted/needed this... IMHO this is a very relevant use of a portable device with great screen.
Are you using a USB hub? It may fix your problem. It will mask the card reader's energy requirements and the Nook might then recognize it correctly.

I don't think it is a power issue. Apparently the nook sees the reader (see my original post), but from what I read it only auto mount the "first" volume.
